Actor Clint Eastwood speaks Thursday night at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla.
The actor and director, 82, has sparked jokes, imitators, and more after his "invisible guest" speech Thursday night at the Republican National Convention. Here's a selection of the reactions online to Clint Eastwood.

Clint ...Made my day! People claim he disrespected the office of President. The President disrespected "we the people". Clint is there for "we the people"...he feels our pain. As he stated "politicians work for us" not the other way around.
Is that why the congress are on vacation half of the time? Is that why they signed pledges with lobbyists? Is that why they make a pact to NOT do anything to improve the country so they can try to make the present President "look bad"? Is that the "we the people" thing you are talking about? They have caused us pain!
The liberal responses are so typical. They seem to forget why we appreciate Mr. Eastwood's comments, they are true and accurate. However, they do not fit in the liberal, socialist handbook of rhetoric. I have been following the threads on the vine for a while and I typically see the liberal response to logic is criticism of grammar, and so on. Totally avoiding the reality of his comments, the chair in the oval office has been empty for three and a half years in substance. Yes, there is a Gluteous Maximus warming the cushions, but as Mr. Eastwood's comments stated, Democrats are typically a smile dragging a lifeless body behind.
By the way, how many unborn Children has the liberals murdered today because some irresponsible woman cannot keep her knees together?
Lazarus
Larry, men are just as responsible for bringing children into this world as women. I share your opinion that abortion is awful, but the responsibility lies with all people.
Forget it, Dan. In Larry's world, conservative white men are the victims.
Typical Right wing rant - women are evil, men are victims, blah blah blah only have sex for procreation, missionary style, in the dark. You relic.
I think the women of this country need to come together and start a bill that requires all men to get a vasectomy when they reach adulthood and they can have it reversed only when the woman in the relationship wants to have a child and then must have a new vascectomy once the woman is pregnant. Does that fit your views Larry, it seems in your comment that you believe that some irresponsible woman cant keep their knees together but you forgot that some irresponsible men where between those legs and have the same responsibility.
Harvey, the imaginary 6ft rabbit, was even laughing at Clint last night - Jimmy Stewart did it better!

Self deletion. Is that like self deportation?
No, it's like I pressed reply to one comment, but the system recognized it as a new comment. I wish this website allowed you to delete a comment within the editing timeframe.
For a something as serious as a presidential election...very cheesy to say the least.
I'm surprised the GOP embraces him when you consider he is not a man of christian character.
You're not referring to Romney are you? Did you even watch the convention or do you choose to forget everything that goes against your biases. Last night the country clearly saw that Romney is a man of christian character. Anyone who doesn't believe that is only kidding themselves. Is being a rich white guy incompatible with being christian?
I think the comment was about Eastwood, since that's what this forum is about. That aside, I don't see any connection between religion and character.
I think Mr Eastwood has just created an entire new art form.
I think each candidate should from here out be required to submit a chair debate mono-and-a-halflouge video before the primaries. Then we could determine if they could out debate air. And possibly maybe justify some of thier ideas, policies or implimentation strategies. Say what you really feel. Aparently Mr Eastwood feels the President occupies himself wondering which common curses might be anatomically possible.
Its good to know people like him support those political actors who would reimpliment the Bush/Rove policies that grew our economy and increased our international reputation so well.

You knuckleheads! Eastwood was not asked to give a speech. That's why nothing was scripted. He wasn't delivering a speech. It was a performance. That's what actors do.
I guess you're not smart enough to know the difference.
Gee tony thank ya for edumacating us...I didn't know speeches were to be scripted. So because he was acting he probably really didn't believe what he was saying...I get it. I wonder how much the GOP paid him for such an outstanding performance.
For all the Moron's who think Mr. Eastwood was incoherent and mumbling: The whole idea of the empty chair and his talking to the Chair was that he has Given Mr. President a seat to sit and listen to what he had to say, at no point he chided the president he said what he wanted to say as that is his right under the constitution of the united states. President has a right to have a different opinion. There was more respect shown to Mr. Obama than it was and has been shown to the last president by the current administration. People who do not respect their elders need to shut-up, sit and listen.
People who do not respect some of their elders have been given reason not to respect them. If you were speaking on a personal point to Mr. Eastwood I would agree with you, but this was a political platform where people do not shut-up, sit and listen. When the youth of today have a better vision of what this country should be than what the elders do, I think it is time for the elders to sit down, shut up and listen.
You think we didn't get his concept of the empty chair? It was the rambling execution that's at issue. It was a sad and pathetic performance by a once great actor who made it obvious why he had retired. I felt bad for Mr. Eastwood. Now the Eastwooding thing IS funny, but it's not like I'm going to attack Clint on a personal level.
A lot of people (particularly on this vine) believe that respecting someone and disagreeing with that person are mutually exclusive.
I wouldn't say that Clint's words were a resounding endorsement for Romney, nor that terrible for Obama. He must be a RINO.
You are right Dan. Even I got caught up in the moment.
This campaign rhetoric has gotten to me.
Over the years I've voted for who I thought would do the best job, sometimes being wrong and sometimes right.
I voted for Governor Rick Snyder of Michigan. I had the thoughts that a businessman would be the best thing for our government here. As we know Republicans never raise taxes. Wrong google him. Our Retiree's now pay income taxes on their pensions, of course this was to help pay for lower taxes on business. Point is unemployment is up, once again Seniors suffer and this R&R ticket is what you want, and Clint is the person that you want to show your self image. Good Luck with all that and do check out Michigans Gov't being run by the PRIVATE SECTOR BUSINESSMAN
In the long run this thing is of no importance regardless what any of us think of what Eastwood did and said.
The sad part is that all the Obama supporters here appear to want to deny that Eastwood is and has been a conservative for a long time.
Whatever, when the shakeout comes Obama is going to win the election anyway.
While I liked the Dirty Harry movies, this was an awful performance.
I must have missed something..... was this a political speech or a roast for Obama? I think the percentage for Obama just went up a lot or should I say "go ahead, make my presidency"
Romney Ryan 2012
Clint way to go, you did way better then Biden in a stand in gimmick, then Biden has done since he has been there.
As for Roseann Barr not that anything that cow says matters, I guess that says it all.
Only chance a replublican has in winning a debate is talking to an empty chair. LOL - Republicans are a bunch of losers. Evangelicals are the most hateful and biggoted people in America. Here is a throat slit gesture back to all of you. Go take your bibles and your guns and shine them up, turn them sideways and shove them where the sun don't shine.
LMAO
I found that Eastwood's ability to adapt and continue on with his speech was great considering his script he was suppose to be reading from the teleprompter failed.

Still it was just as good as an Obama speech when he speaks without his.....and Eastwood is 31 years older.
Eastwood speaking to an empty chair is about the same considering Obama is an empty suit.
As an independent voter, Clints speech didnt sway me one way or another. It was 100% Clint, it was funny and anyone complianing about it needs to get some thicker skin. I think Obama and Romney are both just another politician. I laugh the liberals and the conservatives remarks here, thinking your way is the only way. You think its either one or the other. Great performance Clint, you played to your audience like a pro. These other idiots are just mad you are on the other side and not thiers. I loved how Clint said all politicians Republican or Democrat work for the people.
Nice idea, but far from the truth these days. All politicians work for SOME people, some people being themselves and those who can afford to purchase their own politicians. The rest of us are SOL.
What is it with the GOP trotting out old white actors? I guess now that Chuck Heston has passed on, Clint's getting the nod.
Strange that when the Democrats feature a movie star they are criticized by Republicans as being part of the Hollywood elite. Clint Eastwood, Ronald Reagan and Charlton Heston are not part of the same elite? Shame on Eastwood!
Never cared for Clint as an actor, can't stand westerns, only ever saw one of the "Dirty Harry" films, and didn't care much for it either - so I care even less for Clint as an RNC mouthpiece.
These people, these policies, that whole way of life has been long passed by by the modern world.
Living in the past won't bring it back, and won't create a future.
Mitt will not create a future.
Ryan will not create a future.
And the two of them together... if there is a divine being or beings, they will ensure the only way these two ever enter the White House will be as part of tour group.
Poitocos don't create anything, while they are supposed to maintain an environment favorable to the good of the nation.
Your post clearly defines what keeps me from being a Democrat. You think politicians are here to create a future for you? Go create a future for yourself. ***I have just as many other things keeping me from being a Republican.
I love how these very wealthy people go on about unemployment and the economy when they really have no clue what it's like to have no job, work for little or be in a position they don't have health insurance. They're all actors. Bad actors with a lot of money behind them, but actors nonetheless. The question is: how convincing are they to get your vote? Because after that, it doesn't matter. Once they're voted in, whatever was said is duly forgotten, until just before the NEXT election time.
I liked most of Clints' movies, but stick a fork in him. Give him his pills, load him onto Christies' flatbed, and get him back to the home.
Was Clint playing the role of "The Joker" in the 1st Batman movie who was insane and enjoyed spending time talking to himself?
That sure reminded me of the Board Room scene right out of the first Batman movie with Jack Nicolson playing "The Joker".
I don't know what Clint thought he was doing, but he was both funny and pathetic at the same time.
Obama/Biden 2012
Obama's tweet shows what a thin skinned, egomaniac this president really is. He would have been better off to do nothing, instead he showed more of himself than he should have, like "spread the wealth" & "you didn't build that". The more we see the REAL Obama the smaller he gets.
ROMNEY/RYAN 2012... Believe in AMERICA!
Good post, and you said it for me President Obama is full of himself.
Do you really believe Obama actually tweeted that, it was probably a staff member!
If Obama were thin skinned he would have answered back long before now on whole lot of personal attacks. Obama has endured far worst attacks then any other president in the nations history with grace and dignity.
Obama/Biden 2012....Keep Believing in America
We are not laughing with you. We're laughing AT you, ssmithlg.
