NH woman arrested 4 times in 26 hours for loud music, assault

This series of booking photos shows Joyce Coffey after being arrested four times in 26 hours on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Joyce Coffey of Epping, N.H., just didn't seem to get it -- or care -- when she was arrested four times in 26 hours earlier this week. The police run-ins stemmed from loud AC/DC and Guns N' Roses music police said could be heard blasting from her house as well as Coffey allegedly throwing a frying pan at her nephew.

Epping police said they first visited Coffey's home on Tuesday at 3 p.m. local time, when they warned her to turn down the music, WMUR-TV in New Hampshire reported. They returned an hour later, found the music was still playing, and arrested her.

Coffey, 53, was released on $500 personal recognizance bail, the Manchester Union Leader reported, but police returned to her home about five hours later -- again because of a report about loud music.

She was arrested a second time around 9:20 p.m.

Coffey was then released on $1,000 bail, but a mere four hours later, after yet another loud music complaint, the police returned at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday.

She was at this point arrested for a third time -- and released a short time later on $10,000 bail.

Police said they heard AC/DC's "Highway to Hell" as well as music by the group Guns N' Roses coming from Coffey's home during their first four visits, reported WMUR.

The final call to Coffey's home was for a report of a domestic disturbance. Police said Coffey's nephew alleged she threw a frying pan at him, hitting him in the head, when he tried to get some of his belongings from her house.

She was arrested a fourth, and on Thursday a judge ordered her to undergo a mental health evaluation.

If she completes the evaluation, the judge said, she will be released to home confinement with electronic monitoring.

The judge also suggested that Coffey, who is due back in court on Oct. 15, use headphones to listen to music, WMUR reported.

The Second Time The PD Returned To Her Home They Could Have Collected Her Music And All Her Sound Equipment As Evidence. That May Bring A Little Peace To Most Folk Involved Or Maybe Not.

The Fresno County Sheriff's Department Have Been Known To Do Just This.

But, Of Course They Do Their Work Way Out In The Wild Wild West Don't You Know ~ lol

So she got busted for disturbing the piece, people complain all the time how the police refuse to work with the people. Well, they tried first time and they warned her, but she would not so they busted her (three times), the fourth was for assault using a frying pan. Next time you get a ticket be hopeful you can a police officer that is just as understanding.

This woman clearly needs a mental health evaluation. The red pattern on her face also would suggest that she suffers from Lupus unless that is a sunburn.NH can save the taxpayers money and possible this woman's life by trying to get her the help that she so dearly needs.

Hmm, sounds like a stereotype. Loud music, who cares about everyone else, hmmm, probably the worst neighbor in the world. It could be the best music in the world (this example is NOT) but WE DON'T WANT TO HEAR YOU. Good luck in the state mental coop. Tough break with the frying pan.

I think her taste in music isn't the issue. It's the fact that playing your music at a volume where others are forced to listen to it is inconsiderate and disrespectful. A night in jail upon her second arrest would have been appropriate. People on this board are throwing around the word "inbred" quite a bit..but I would like to get a look at the dumb police officers who handled this situation so pathetically; I would bet their parents were closely blood-related. I just hope the story is an embaressment for that police department.

@shane - Dope. The police dont determine bail. It's the law.

Amen. Noise is noise. Yes, dogs bark and children shout. That is different than some idiot who thinks that loud music with their windows and doors open, or (worse) in an apartment with shared walls, could possibly be OK. The judge was correct to offer advice that would keep this stupid woman out of his courtroom. "Crankin' it up" is about as stupid as the teens who used to think they could rent out a Motel 6 room for a night and have a party in it. Go, Darwin! ;)

Shouldn't they just change their rules to state that if you get arrested like that, on the second time, maybe a night in the slammer would bring you back to reality ? Sounds like she seriously needs some couch time and her nephew a restraining order.

the neighbor behind me has two dogs that bark constantly. She's been fined numerous times and a night in jail would not remedy their barking.A night in jail is not what this particular woman needs unless they have highly rained physicians and mental health specialists at the jail.

You think the judge finally got it? Poor lady has mental issues, who doesn't honestly. The worst of it is, the talented NBC team posting her mug shots across the world wide web. You can always count on NBC for these really dangerous stories. WOW, I hope NH. can give their anal a rest now that the music has died down.
