Demonstrators gather at Frazier Park at the start of a protest march Sunday in Charlotte, N.C.
Updated at 6:18 p.m. ET: About 800 people chanting and carrying signs (among them, "Banks got bailed out. We got sold out") marched Sunday through the central business district in Charlotte, N.C., ahead of the Democratic National Convention to protest what they said was seedy corporate influence on politics.
The protesters, who came from across the country, gathered at Frazier Park for a round of speeches before starting the march. They were from a coalition of more than 80 local and national groups. Media packets declared the group's mission as "building peoples' power during the DNC.
Demonstrators had signs indicating that some were union workers, anti-war veterans and undocumented immigrants.
"Capitalism is holding back the human race," one sign read. "Bail out people, not banks," another sign said.

The protest route was to take them past the corporate headquarters of Bank of America and a major office hub for Wells Fargo – financial institutions that some see as symbols of foreclosures and federal bailouts. Protesters also planned a stop at the headquarters of Duke Energy, the nation’s largest utility.
Duke has been criticized for investing in nuclear energy and using coal, according to the Charlotte Observer. Protesters have asked the company to focus on wind and solar power, which emit less carbon into the atmosphere. Duke, in defense, says it aims to retire its older coal plants.
Uniformed police officers on bicycles and on foot kept a close eye on the marchers. At least two people were arrested -- one for wearing a mask and carrying a concealed knife, and another for assaulting a government official, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, the Observer reported.
Ray Suarez, of PBS NewsHour, tweeted, "Just watched Occupy et. al. march through Charlotte, who were in turn watched by enough cops to invade a small country."
Before the main event began, a small press conference was held highlighting a woman, Sylvia Sanchez, who says she must pay $20,000 to Bank of America by Sept. 14 to avoid foreclosure on a home she's owned for 12 years. The woman, whose daughter is suffering from a brain condition called hydrocephalus, said she is in debt after having retrofitted the home with wheelchair ramps.
In interviews with NBC News, rank-and file-activists cited different reasons for coming.
Kendall Hale, a massage therapist and Obama campaign volunteer from Asheville, N.C., said that climate change was among her concerns.
"The era of compromise may not be working so well," Hale said. She urged President Obama to "forge ahead with the issues [he's] speaking about so eloquently."
Andie Marion, a college student also from the Asheville area, said her chief concern was "money in politics."
"The amount of corporate power that influences a lot of the politics I think is really huge," she said.
On the sidelines, Sunday's protest in Charlotte triggered a conversation about where the Occupy movement is headed.
Todd Gitlin, who wrote Letters to a Young Activist and Occupy Nation: The Roots, the Spirit, and the promise of Occupy Wall Street, told NPR: "The initial wave moved its metaphors into the household conversation and shaped politics. But I think they essentially reached the limits of what they could achieve. Now there's a sorting process."
The Democratic National Convention opens Tuesday in Charlotte's Time Warner Cable Arena. President Barack Obama will be nominated for a new term on Wednesday. He will deliver his acceptance speech Thursday night at the outdoor Bank of America Stadium.
The convention starts less than a week after Republicans gathered in Tampa, Fla., to nominate Mitt Romney as the party's presidential candidate.

Second, the 11 point bounce quote was from a reporter from the left. No Right Wing reporters have said this, and there is no news release. The data provided and the historically consistent average of a 5pt bounce post convention reflects Romney/Ryan continue to struggle given a 3pt error margin on average. Please note the poll numbers post DNC convention for former President Clinton they exceeded 11pts.

BTW in congress, the Republicans have and edge on Democrats on amount of education .15 more degrees per member, Rhodes Scholars 3 to 1 and and the only Rhodes Scholar to graduate with distinction.

It was a 5 point bounce. One poll out on thursday had a showed a 5 point bounce from their pre-convention poll BEFORE Romney spoke. Before convention romney was behind even in Rasumusen by 1-2 points. As of yesterday romney up 3, and today Romney up 4.
Gallup showed only 1 point, and so far is the only one showing only 1 point.

This is just my brief opinion, based in what I have learned and seen through my own experiences, after reading some of the posts here:
Only Jesus our Lord can save us all, for we are all doomed believing we know what we doing when we "vote" for one candidate or the other; the real good choices have been removed from our grasps by the powers at being...a true patriot conservative like Dr. Paul is out of the race as well as any other libertarian candidate who could have brought some hope for repairs to our ailing nation, and now we have done it..no escape from fate and the fate of this country in going down the drain; we all have done that, in part because we have steered away from Jesus teachings, rather believing other man whose only purposes is to fulfill his own agendas and that of those who would make possible he is their face for humanity...it is beyond the presidency and it goes far more than that; people all over the world sees this issues and call us stupid for not being able to distinguish our own destruction and rightfully so..America itself is ignorant by default because that's the way our government want us to be; cuts in education funds everywhere, less teachers, religions out of "federal controlled" school districts, and I do not sit at a classroom every day but I have my doubts teachers today concentrate to teach our children who really George Washington was and all the jewels from history which made this nation the greatest over the face of the earth... respect for parents and civic education is absent from the classroom and kids are allowed more freedoms lacking guidance and encouraged to reveal and revolt against their own parents should parents "interfere" with their "rights" this is why we have children who do not respect the elderly or any one; this is why we have kids that are easily manipulated by the government for their own agendas; those are the same kids in military, who will follow any orders given by superiors, because this monster of society we have created for decades, it have stripped them off the real sense of discipline; the one that starts at home; these are the same kids who would shoot you, or me following orders from their "superiors" and of course; the "homes" which the state does nothing to save but to divide every day more with the encouraging of divorces and same other atrocities our society knows today; in all these American homes, the use of domestic violence laws to accomplish this agenda and to aliniate, it is overwhelming; these days, I just don't argue with my wife any more because a simple raise in the tone of voice will turn you into a criminal...these are some of our traits earned through all these years and that are destroying us; we have become, by our own choices a nation of ignorants, coming here to these forums to tear each others apart with rants and comments which will do nothing to stop our fate from the real traitors, those within us, dividing us more every day instead of uniting us...I will not be voting on November because what is the point; elections here in ole USA are like one poster here compared with the South Park toons; its being arranged and no matter what we always going to have a choice between a Turd Sandwich and a Douche Bag...We all know politics is saying one thing and doing another or the opposite...have we all not have enough promises from every one of those who sat in office? My Sister, who lives in Charlotte refers to black people en terms I will not repeat. She refers to Latins even worse. We're not talking now because she called my "Trailer Park" for my political views. I called her "Trailer Park"...for living just above a trailer park, It comes down to this. People matter. Moshuluu: Obama is a muslim and a socialist. He was raised muslim by his step father. He went to a muslim school. His former pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright was a muslim for 30 years before he decided to switch over to chrisitanity. It is possible that he heard racist remarks during those sermons. He only decided to become christian when he realized it would get him more votes.
But I think the biggest evidence is the fact that Obama is contributing billions of dollars in aid to muslim countries while at the same time decreasing Israel's defense aid by two-thirds. Maybe is racist side is starting to show through?

Yes! Our military fired on protesting veterans and we have already seen police turn on peaceful protesters. Here are a few things we need to do now to save this economy and turn things around.
1. Force our public owned corporations to pay our minimum wages wherever they go. This would show a little regard for workers and bring back jobs fast.
2. Stop big banks from using our own money to rob us. The big banks with trillions in assets have been driving up the price of oil and other essentials by manipulating the commodities market. Every one in Washington knows this and nothing is done to stop it.
3. Raise the capital gains tax where most giant money is made to 30%. The present rate is only 15% and Romney along with others along with others want to eliminate taxes on billionaires.
4, Make all government loans directly for a small interest. This would cut house notes and rentals by half or more and leave trillions in the hands of our people instead of thieving banks. Why should anyone pay a bank 600k for a 200k house when the tax payer backs the loan?
We need real change fast or the pigs and their owned government will soon have us in depression and chaos. You can't run a country for 1 or 2% without destroying it.

Romney and Ryan both claim this government should be run like a business...So it can be offshored? Outsourced and what does that make American citizens? Employers of this Romney Business he wants government to be? And count on it ...he has a huge stake in all those venture capitalized businesses he owns offshore. So the next thing you'll hear from Republicans is "if you want jobs...there are plenty...in China, India and Thailand...Don't believe it?
Isn't that what IBM told those thousands of workers they laid off in 2009? And what really do CEOs have to lose? I see these people here with the NO FEAR signs as my wife and I wait while out I-485 Green Card application sit and sits at CSC, the California Service Center. I am a US Citizen (and veteran) who married a Thai citizen and the entire process is not over and we started in January 2011-GIVE ME A BREAK! PLEASE SOMEONE GET ME ON CAMERA-American people need to know what is happening to the legal immigrants while the media and our US elected government panders to these illegals! I am very easy to find, living in Merchantville, NJ and this is my real name. USCIS (immigration) is a joke to deal with, so incompetent, delays after delays, thousands of Dollars in fees while we still cannot even leave the USA and come back on vacation until we get the green card and I waited for 1 year and 12 days to legally get my then fiancee into the USA. The US government has forsaken its own people!

Been there done that. Immigration lost all my wife's paper work and made us re-file and re-pay as they could not correctly address an envelope. I finally took the approach you mentioned, I called for the up-teenth time and said something like this, "I'm tired of you telling me what you can't do for me, it is a waste of your and my time, as an American born citizen I have a right to marry whomever I please and have given you the paper work to prove it. If you have no ability to move this process forward than I need to talk with the person that can. I'm also a constituent of (insert favorite politician) and have made his office aware of your inefficiencies concerning this matter." Two weeks later we got our interview and a green card was few weeks behind, we have two beautiful boys and my wife will be getting citizenship next. Don't let them forsake you!!
I hear you, Gary. I wish I could help you. I do not mind any one coming into this country as long as it's done legally and when one of the good people like you try to do it the way the law is written there are 100's more doing illegally. They want their way, now. Come on in, break our laws and be rewarded! That is the cry of the American Ringmaster. Such a shame that our country is so full of race and religon haters who proclaim they are so tolerant and open. I read some of these comments and I know that more than half are paid to post their hate filled comments.
Gary, you make a great point and this is the problem with big goverment. They get so lost in the forms, procedures and new revised directives from above that no one remembers why they are there in the first place and then no one you actually have access to has the authority to do what is obviously the right thing to solve your problem.

Ahhh...remember the good old days when George Bush's security detail would push protesters to a holding or containment area about a mile away from the site? And if the crowd was allowed near, there would be agents in plains clothes to agitate and start trouble just so the protest ban could justified? It's gotten out of hand with Obama, he allows gatherings and just accepts and even encourages free speech and gatherings. What's this world coming to?
Let's see. We gave Bush 8 years to get us where we were/are, and we only want to give Obama 3 1/2 years to pull us out of that mess? Really? Nah, he needs another term to do any kind of repair/restoration job on this wreck. Then he can sidestep the Party of No in the House and "git 'er done" without having to worry about the repercussions. After that, the Democrats can put a woman in the White House to finish the work.
Actually, a second Obama term would be far worse than the first because with the gutter level campaign he is running, he is not exactly making friends with the opposition party and they will still be there next time. If he is whinning about obstruction now, just wait and see what would happen next term. There is only so much you can do by executive decree in a democracy.
