Police in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., have arrested a mother they say discarded her infant son in a hotel trash bin after she told hospital staff she had had an abortion.
Alexandria Sladon-Marler, 33, was arrested Monday morning and faces charges that include aggravated manslaughter and child neglect, according to authorities.

The incident began on Aug. 10 when police were contacted by emergency room workers at Broward General Medical Center who said Sladon-Marler told them she was experiencing symptoms from a recent pregnancy, police said.
Sladon-Marler told doctors she'd recently had an abortion and the symptoms were a result of the procedure, but a medical evaluation didn't support her story, police said.
Doctors told police Sladon-Marler had recently given birth but were unsure of the baby's whereabouts, police said.

When officers went to the Fort Lauderdale Beach Place Hotel and Suites, where Sladon-Marler had been transported from, they noticed an unusual amount of blood throughout her hotel room, police said.
The dead baby was later found "wrapped in a towel and placed inside of a pillowcase" in a trash bin at the hotel, according to a police report.
"They looked around the hotel room and they eventually went to the dumpster and located an infant boy," said Fort Lauderdale Police spokeswoman Detective DeAnna Garcia.
Sladon-Marler was being held Tuesday on $47,500 bond. It was unknown whether she has an attorney.

need more to the story I believe...they call her a Mother, does she have other children?..how many if so...yes, she could be a *meth head*...then she could be a prostitute... selling herself to put food on the table for her other children...and got pregnant by the *john*......there are SO many things it could be.........
let's see, (I suppose I'll be trashed for being what you call*liberal*) if the person doesn't want the child, then let them do the abortion thing...far more humane then what this one went through....just think of the ones that do make it, and live...in fear of abuse--child rape--living with constant hunger pains.....look at this woman, would YOU want her to be YOUR Mom???

Is all the free birth control not an option? And abortion IS an option. They choose not to pay for it.
If we really want to support a new form of birth control, why not pay for sterilizations instead of abortions??? Makes a lot more sense to me and hey...I don't even mind contributing to that procedure.
First, who are you to judge if she is right enough to be a mom by appearance? Second, apparently, your parents cared enough for you not to abort you. Third, in your wisdom, what is the difference between abortion and what she did?? What, the baby was outside the body?? Explain yourself. By the way, your argument is very flawed:

The story is not, repeat not about the result of an abortion. It is a sad tale of a woman who gave birth in a motel room and disposed of her child in a dumpster. And. if it can be proven that her child was alive when she threw it in the dumpster, then it's murder. Otherwise, it's just obscene case of littering (pun almost)"
So at what point could she have had the baby premature and you would have been ok with it? For instance there are many babies born premature that are saved by modern medicine that are the same age as babies that are "legally" aborted. Also, there are many stories of a mother that is murdered and was pregnant with a baby that is of "legal" abortion age but it's counted as a double murder.
So at what age could this ladies baby be premature that it would have been ok with you?
When are people going to get it? IF you don't want the child you have given birth to you can take that child to ANY HOSPITAL 24/7 and leave that child there. That's FEDERAL LAW! Now this woman is guilty of murder ( most likely 1st degree murder ). I don't even want to look at the person who suggested adoption over abortion. This woman apparently did not know that a 3rd option existed. When you take your unwanted child ( birth to 5 years I believe ), there is no judgement on your actions. NONE. There is no fee. If you want or need counseling I am sure the hospital can help you with arrangements.
She should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I have no mercy or understanding towards women that do these things. There are too many different types of birth control that a woman can use to avoid un-wanted pregnancies. Readily available at that. Why do some women keep doing this? It is wickedness. Pure and simple. I wish that Karma pays her back hundredfold for her dirty deed. I hope you rot in hell bitch!

We DO NOT KNOW the all of the circumstances, in fact, there is damned little in the article. I would lay a $1000 bet that you are a Romney supporter. You know no women's health care, absolutely NO BIRTH CONTROL. and NO COMPASSION!! Look at that woman's face!!!! look at her eyes, can you not see the desperation in them? This " Woman " needs the death penalty. I would rather have her out of the world. She made a conscious decision to kill this baby. I'm tired of all the bleeding hearts saying it's a choice. This is a case of murder not manslaughter.
I for one am sick of all the excuses people have for doing crazy things. I really don't care if they had a bad childhood or are too crazy to understand. If they are that crazy then what the hell. Put them out of they're misery.

There was no reason or excuse for what happened. Adoption is also an option, not just abortion. There are thousands of people out there who would have done anything to adopt her baby. I would like to encourage any woman out there who's considering abortion to please consider adoption, too. Yes, abortion is your right to choose but having an abortion won't change the fact that there was a pregnancy. I've changed my mind regarding abortion when I see friends of mine who've had an abortion and they're still grieving it, years later.

This truly is a very sad story...I pray the child rest in peace. Let's face it people this women clearly had mental illness, and we also know someone in their right mind wouldn't do this. We don't know the road she traveled; her past, but we can see where she is at today. A poor up bringing which could have included sexual abuse or beatings..we don't know. Clearly she has no value for life. What she did is a sin..she murdered-sins carry no classification a sin is a sin and the first one of you who have not sinned; throw a stone. We are all sinners-whether you want to acknowledge it or not. This women needs help - serious help..but will she get it..did she get it when she needed it? Our society as a whole can own some responsibility for a women in this condition. If you really care, let's become a caring nation and let help be there for those in need-I personally think health care as proposed by our current president would have been very instrumental in preventing our people from feelings of total helplessness. Just saying. Love and Peace to All. And, once again, I pray the baby rest in peace. I do think what she did was totally horrible and she also should be punished according to the law.
The mother only only smoked when she drank throughout her pregnancy. The infant was probably addicted to crack when born. Would have probably ended up a junky. She did society a favor by putting him down thus breaking the cycle.
Why is this even an issue? If she had been in a facility having it done by a doctor- no crime. What's the difference? Why the outrage? What crime? If they accuse her of murder, they're a bunch of hypocrites!

Break the cycle by requiring all male and females be sterilzed after 4 years on welfare. All these people do is use resources but provide no value to society.

What is happening to us as a whole society? Where is the "natural human feelings and concern" for children and babies? We are hearing of perverted adults and "parents" doing all kinds of evil to their own children - have we descended even further than animals? Not to beat on Biblical stuff, but this does bring to mind a couple of verses: in the last days, men shall be without natural affection, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God - I suppose you could substitute "women" for "men" in the above. Anyhow, all over the nation and world, things are getting pretty sick.
So sad. She went nine months (I'm guessing since she delivered) and could have just left him at a fire station, no questions asked. So many people out there want kids and can't have them. I could understand if she couldn't afford an abortion but to go this long and to kill the baby? Really sick. I hope he was stillborn. By the way, I am pro-choice. People like her shouldn't have kids.
Sounds like a case of someone needing to keep their legs closed. There are other ways to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. Many women would kill for a child but the only ones allowed to have children are the ones that would kill their child. These women make me sick to be a women. They are the ones that should suffer and die.
So, all the brilliant people who are pro choice and think abortion should be allowed, how is what this mother did any different, huh?? This is what I have said time and time again that there IS a double standard in this country for abortion. As you see, the mother is facing manslaughter charges. This happens every day with abortion. Also, if anyone can explain the difference from what this mother did compared to abortion, it would be interesting to hear.
The difference is the fact that abortion is a medical procedure, only performed during the first or second trimester of pregnancy (yes, third trimester abortions are now illegal in this country). Clearly not the same thing if the child actually is born "living". There is no double standard...just simple minded people that can't, or won't, take the time to do the applicable research to make a case or arguement for a pro-life course of law and action.
Also, I wouldn't be so quick to call those that have abortions "murderers". This is just a typical comment from someone who abviously has not been in a place to have to make that decision. I agree that it is not a reasonable form of birth control but there are circumstances that make this procedure a necessity or warranted on account of the expecting.
Don't be so quick to judge people if you are incapable of understanding or reading the law.
respect-2327541, just in case you didn't realize it..this baby had been born...and presumably had a chance to survive (that is if it wasn't stillborn) whereas a fetus (or clump of cells in the first few days) has to have obtained a certain amount of growth and has to be able to survive outside of it's environment. A murder can only happen to a breathing organism. I don't murder "bacteria" when I wash my hands but they were, however, living. Get it? Breathing.
What the difference between eating an egg and slaughtering a baby chick? If your mother went psycho and suffocated you would that be murder or is that no different than abortion either?

Have you ever seen cases where an assailant is accused of manslaughter when the baby of a pregnant mother is killed? It happens my friend. My point is people draw these relative lines in order to justify their actions. Do you know what relativism is?? Say what you want about the law but the fact is it is murder whether in the womb or outside.
Oh, the other post who speaks about "breathing" the baby "breathes" amniotic fluid. And comparing a baby to bacteria, that is sad.

Exactly! This just makes me cry! I, myself am 35 years old, and am now facing the devastating fact that I may never be able to have a biological baby. The adoption process has also been extremely grueling. To find out that there are people in this world who are throwing precious babies away like trash, when there are so so many of us, who would love to be able to give a child a good home, is just an unimaginable horror!
Not knocking you, Sunshine, just curious. Would you adopt pretty much any baby, or do you have criteria that must be met (e.g., race, gender, potential health issues, etc.)? People always say "adopt," but there are already plenty of children available for adoption. Unfortunately, a lot of them aren't "perfect" so never get adopted.
I'm pretty sure she wouldn't want to adopt a special child that has needs like licking windows and animals' gentilia either....
