Police: Man kills mother-in-law's husband, 19, and her ex, 70

PORTLAND -- An Oregon man has been charged with killing his mother-in-law's 19-year-old husband and 70-year-old ex-husband during a family trip to the coast, The Associated Press reported Tuesday.

Timothy Henson then kidnapped his wife and mother-and-law before officers discovered them off a spur road a few miles from the scene of the double homicide, said R. Paul Frasier, the Coos County district attorney, told the AP.

Henson, 43, was arraigned Tuesday afternoon on charges of aggravated murder, assault and kidnapping, the  AP said. A judge set bail at $6 million and provided him with a court-appointed attorney.

The news agency reported the violence erupted Sunday evening in a Chevy Blazer. After the relatives spent a day visiting beaches, a dispute arose as the vehicle traveled on Highway 101 south of Bandon.

Henson allegedly fired one to three shots inside the vehicle, with a bullet hitting his wife, Vallena Tuell, 30, in the forearm. The car came to a stop and Henson shot George Micheaux III, 19, and Milton Chester Leach, 70, outside the vehicle, Frasier told the AP.

George Micheaux died at the scene. Leach was removed from life support Monday at a Portland hospital.

The district attorney said he would present the case to a grand jury later this week. In the meantime, he declined to say what type of gun was used or what the dispute was about.

The family lived together in Myrtle Creek, near Interstate 5 about 90 miles east of the crime scene. Henson and his wife lived in the house, the Micheauxs have a trailer on the property and Leach, the ex-husband of Ruth Sherrie Micheaux, stayed in the garage.

Frasier told the AP that Leach had terminal lung cancer, and the weekend getaway was a chance for him to enjoy the coast for perhaps a final time.

Tuell was treated at a local hospital for her forearm injury and released.

It's unclear when Leach and Ruth Micheaux, 47, got divorced. Micheaux and her teenage husband were married in New Mexico in November 2009.

Of course the shooter was a little off, but what on earth is a 19 year old doing married to an old woman?

hs321 47 is hardly old, but I agree, what was she doing married to a 19 years old? And why would she have married a man 23 years older than herself the first time?

Makes me wonder if its just an American thing or do other countries have people like this. Its kind of embarrassing.

Debbie, read the story. The 19 year old was married to the killer's mother-in-law. The killer was 43. Both the current husband (19) and ex husband (70) were killed. He also shot his wife (30) in the arm.

why do you keep talking about "gene pool", first of all the man that did the shooting was not blood related to anyone else in the story, secondly the two men that got shot were not blood related to anyone else in the story. The only people were were related by blood were the mother and her daughter and it seems they were just caught in the crossfire. Perhaps the reader's gene pools are a bit lacking.

What's wrong with trailers? My family and I live in one. I've been married to the same man for 30 years, and he is the father of all three of my children. My husband and I are not related by blood. So, I ask you again- what's wrong with trailers? Our double-wide is larger and much nicer than our old site-built house in the city. Is there a point to your snarky comment? Have you overlooked the fact that two men have been murdered? Does it really matter what sort of house they lived in?

I think you may be a little confused. Conservatives believe in traditional relationships- one man, one woman, legally wed, etc. It's liberals who want all the different or unusual relationships to be considered "mainstream".

Fed-Up, you realize that Romney is not his own predecessor, right? Do you understand that the mainstream Mormon church no longer allows polygamy? Offshoot sects who do practice polygamy (illegally, I may add) are not part of the recognized Mormon church.

Do you understand that no one is responsible for the actions of his or her ancestors? Some of my ancestors owned slaves. I wasn't alive then, so what they did (legally, if not morally right) isn't my responsibility. Hell, some of my ancestors were slaves or indentured servants! It doesn't mean that someone living today owes me anything because of what my ancestors endured. Some of my husband's ancestors were sent to a penal colony. He wasn't alive, and he has never broken the law (he's actually a retired police officer), so any criminal acts committed by his long-dead ancestors are not his problem.

Boy the math on the ages of this lot add up to something sick... Lets see Mommy Ruth (current age 46) mother of Vallena (age 30) and mother-in-law of the shooter Tim Henson (age 43), ex-wife of Leach (age 70 and living in the garage of Valeena & Tim Henson), current wife of George (age 19 - and they married in 2009!)

So the mother was 16 when she got knocked up by a much older man. It probably stunted her mental growth, and she wanted to get back those years she lost. Something whacked like that. The shooter was only 13 years older than his wife, not uncommon, but I imagine that living with in-laws like that could make anyone nuts.

Temporary insanity pleas rarely fly, but a road trip with this bunch...

Are they sure this was in Oregon and not Arkansas? Sounds pretty redneck to me.

Because that would make the murder good right? And yes, people are like this in every state.

Oh, but haven't you begun to "get it", Mr. Burns? It's okay if poor, white, Southern people kill each other. Everyone who's anyone knows it's what we do for fun. (sorry about the sarcasm overload)

Mr Reid: what causes you to deduce that Oregon is exempt from redneckery? Mr Burns is correct.

Let me get this straight. Some guy named "Henson", and his muppet, had an Oedipus complex surrounding the 70 year old desirable female. Then it led to gunshots.

I gotta go back and read the article.

Please do reread the article. The 70-year-old was the ex-husband. The "desirable female" was 47. No matter the ages or circumstances, it is an incredibly sad story. Almost every day over the past few weeks there has been a story about a shooting somewhere in the country. So much death for no reason.

Please don't bring up Henson and the muppets. He was and still is a shining star.

Yet another example of a Republican family vacation in America. Packing guns and interbreeding with the young are strong traditions in the Romney-Ryan team of presidential hopefuls. The Mormon credentials helps too.

I wonder if these marriages and relationships are what the conservative far right have in mind, when the preach how only same sex marriage is perfect.

I think they expect more children. Both a these females are a breedin' age. There should a been at least 10 er 15 younguns' between 'em.

Sumthin' wrong here. Probly cause Oregon is a pro-choice state.

Hey Alex126. Do you often spout off about things of which you know absolutely nothing? Just wonderin'... And, just out of curiosity, have you ever been to Western Oregon? Not exactly a bastion of conservatism. Check out Ashland Oregon sometime, probably the 420 capitol of the US, but only has been since forever.

Way to make fun of people after a murder. And liberals wonder why so many people are leaving the party of "sympathy." You guys are the real joke, not this family.

This is why we need better access to birth control and abortion, and meaningful sex education.

Dave Simpson, those folks are from Oregon. Last time I checked, Oregon was in the opposite corner of the country from the South. We have our fair share of stupid, imbred, trailor trash idiots down here, but these particular ones aren't Southern.

Romney/Ryan want to do away with Plan Parent Hood and abortion, when we need it the most! They claim we are punishing the children. I think in order for us to stop the parents from punishing the children we stop them from having them in the first place!

Maybe you could explain how abortion would have helped this situation??? MAYBE that's what the fight was about, but I'm guessing if a 47 year-old woman marries a 19 year-old man/boy, it probably ISN'T because she couldn't get an abortion. Quite possibly the opposite. Think before typing.
