A wrestling coach in California is wanted in connection with allegations he sexually assaulted a 14-year-old boy, whose mother discovered a YouTube video by another alleged victim urging area parents to "protect their children," according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Police are searching for 29-year-old Herbert Daniel Ortiz, aka Herbert Ortiz Monroy, of Rosemead, Calif., in connection with the alleged abuse.
Ortiz is described as a Latino man, standing 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds. His last known residence was in Baldwin Park, Calif., sheriff’s officials said.
Sheriff’s say the 14-year-old boy told his mother about the alleged abuse after she recognized Ortiz from a YouTube video in which another boy alleged he was victimized by the coach, sheriff’s officials said. When she asked her 14-year-old son if he had been victimized, he told her yes, officials said.

"During follow-up investigation, detectives learned that the suspect had knowledge that the 'Youtube' video had been posted to the internet," sheriff’s officials said in a statement released late Tuesday.
The video was taken down by investigators, the Sheriff's Department said.
Officials say the alleged abuse started when the 14-year-old was befriended by Ortiz, who worked as an assistant wrestling coach for Rosemead High School from 2007 to 2009. Since 2010, Ortiz has worked as a wrestling instructor of the Bad News Panthers Children Wrestling Club in Rosemead.
The club's website, which was not working Wednesday morning, lists him as the founder. He was also listed as coach at a high school in Virginia.

Rosemead City Manager Jeff Allred said Wednesday that Ortiz himself had alerted the city to the video last week and denied the allegations. The city then suspended his participation in the club, which rents city-owned space. Allred said the city was working with the sheriff's department.
Superintendent Nick Salerno of El Monte Union High School District, which runs Rosemead High, said there had been no allegations against Ortiz during his time as a coach at the campus. Salerno couldn't comment on why Ortiz left the school but said it had "nothing to do" with "this situation."

Investigators say the alleged crimes occurred in the cities of Rosemead, El Monte and Baldwin Park. They believe Ortiz is intentionally eluding detectives from the Sheriff’s Special Victims Bureau.
Officials are asking anyone with information to contact Special Victims Bureau detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

This is creepy. I wrestled at Glendora High School, and I would face Rosemead students at different tournaments.
Also, I found out from one of my friends who also wrestled that he dropped out because our assistant coach was coming onto him sexually. Creepy stuff.

Punishments do not stop people from acting. The chances or getting caught are what stops them.

Rule of thumb...If a person has an aka with their name it is probably not a good idea to allow them to be alone with your kids. Just a thought. Obama has 4, why is that?
Let me see if I have this straight: A kid posted a youtube video basically calling some guy a rapist; never went to police or anyone else, just put up a video claiming some kind of vicimization. Another kid's mom saw the video, recognized the guy as someone who had been around her kid, asked said kid if HE had been victimized, and that kid said yes.
Is no one paying attention here? What the hell is happening in this country? Why are all the comments so far about whether or not it's okay to be gay? There is a much more serious and disturbing issue to deal with. As of 4:26AM, Eastern time, I see nothing in the article saying this guy has been charged with any crime. The closest they come to that is to say that he is "wanted in connection with allegations". That doesn't equal a criminal charge. There's also NOTHING indicating that police are even investigating the allegations made by the first kid, in the youtube video. It says police removed the video, and that's it. There is also no mention of any kind of evidence that any crime occurred, aside from the second kid's say-so.
If it turns out this person is indeed a sexual predator who targets children, I'll agree that he deserves a much harsher punishment than the law currently allows for. But before another 500 people come on here running their mouths about all that, just really look at the story once more, and pay attention this time... As far as everyone in the world with internet access is concerned, this guy is a child rapist. No arrest or charge, no due process of any kind. In America. And all it took to make that happen was somebody posting a youtube video. If you don't think that's a serious problem, well you're just wrong. Try to imagine yourself in that situation (assuming you'd be innocent, of course); don't you think it would be f*cked-up for the media to be allowed to publicly try and convict you before you were even charged with anything?
Again, anybody who's actually guilty of any crimes like whatever was suppoesedly alleged here should (in my opinion) at least be rendered physically incapable of ever doing it again. The man is always guilty, what better way to get rid of a male than to accuse him of a sexual crime. As seen time and time on the Internet, it a story comes out that a man is accused he is automatically guilty. People you can think little Johnny Or Lisa can't tell a lie. Oh but they can, they can lie to help mommy or daddy for the promise of a certain toy. Lets hope you or a family member are never accused, you may be the one taking a plea deal to spend less time in the poky.

Do any of you have at least $50,000 to pay an attorney to defend you? Most don't, so generally they take the plea deal, many not knowing their lives are over anyway.
Consider this: in Oklahoma City, a police officer was accused of molesting his adopted stepchildren. The accuser recanted his testimony, the other children refused to testify. The officer is currently doing 2 years in prison and 25 years on probation. He simply ran out of money to pay for his defense.
You're right if you think that the guilty should be punished - as do I. But when you are denied the opportunity to face your accusers in court, or they refuse to testify - there is NO justice.
My friend who I wrestled with in high school said he left because our assistant coach made him feel uncomfortable. And we were just a couple cities over from Rosemead. Creepy.
