A mother in Connecticut shows WVIT's Todd Piro how she chased, tackled and pinned down a would-be burglar who threatened her family.
A Connecticut woman confronted an intruder, chased him out her her home and held him down until police arrived.
Pauline Bragg, 52, was in her Willimantic home on Sunday night when she noticed a man inside.
“I looked and there's this guy, this big shadow standing there with a flashlight,” Bragg said.
The suspect, identified by police as Ramon Rivera, ran out of the house with Bragg right behind him.
“I didn't think, 'I'm going to decide to go chase him.' It was a reaction, you know,” said Bragg.
According to Bragg, who is the mother of a teenage boy, the chase continued into the backyards of three other homes.
“We got in a scuffle. He picked up a two-by-four and hit me,” Bragg said, still nursing bruises from the altercation.
As Bragg pinned Rivera down, she called out to neighbors for help, but said no one offered to assist her.
“I looked right at them and said, 'Get over here and help me.' And you know, nobody wants to get involved,” Bragg said.
Some neighbors called 911, and police arrived and took Rivera into custody. According to Bragg, Rivera told police that he had not broken into her home, but that the two had been involved in a domestic dispute.
“All of a sudden, he said. 'I don't want to be with you anymore,' like trying to make it sound like it was domestic violence, like I was a crazy woman trying to keep her man,” said Bragg.
Police quickly determined the two did not know each other.
Rivera is charged with second-degree assault, third-degree assault, second-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and fifth-degree larceny. He is being held on $200,000 bond and is scheduled to be in court Sept. 28.
According to police, Rivera has 25 prior arrests.

Those neighbors should be ashamed of themselves!!!

GOD Bless Her, someone send me her address so I can send her a SHOTGUN. Next time she can Kill the Bastard and save the TAX Payers Millions of dollars.
This is the epitome of "You Go Girl!" - not even letting a 2 X 4 stop her. I want to be your neighbor. And for the wienies who wouldn't help her - shame on you!
Let's see, the charges will be dropped for him, she will be charged for assault and battery and a hate crime, Razor Ramone gets his own show on MTV to take over for Jersey Shore called White Bitches B Trippin' in the Conn.
I love seeing brave people saying how they would have gotten involved if they were there. In fact many t.V documentaries have shown that people do not get involved. In fact one of the most famous shows"What Would You Do" clearly shows that people do not get involved in most case. Those that do often assist the criminal if they happen to be atrractive well endowed white blonde women. It such a crook of B.S when people say that would have done this or they would have done that after the incident is all over. This woman found how the truth that her neighbors were not going to do crap to assist her! People don't want to get involved because they might get hurt, sued or have to go to court. Heck is what America has become, if the offense is not personal or related to their well being they take the attitude why get involved. You know what they say about snitches get and lie in ditches. This woman is a hero in her own right. We all have to stand up for what's right or we lay down for any thing.
Well, at least we have the internet and national media outlets these days so that this guy's name, face and crimes will get full attention. He may not get the legal punishment that he deserves, but at least he will live the rest of his pathetic life knowing that tens of millions of his fellow citizens are aware of his being a scumbag. Then again, he may be one of those without a conscience and no sense of shame. Funny how there seems to be more and more of this type coming up through the ranks these days.
Now I'm just waiting for the comment that "only God can judge", "we don't know what he's been through in life", "he had a tough childhood", "he can't help it because he's an addict", "we need to walk a mile in his shoes", "we're all haters and racists", "we shouldn't throw stones" et cetera ad nauseum. To that I say: there is nothing like a good public shaming to show someone that society doesn't approve.
Heh. Well, what a surprise for this guy! Go get 'im, girlfriend! Neighbors, not so impressed with you. If she already had him down, it wouldn't hurt to help her restrain him just till the cops got there. It would be pretty obvious that there were no weapons in play.
I doubt I would have been able to chase him down with my arthritic knees and my cane, but I'd sure sit on him for her. He'd stay down.
What makes you think he isn't?
