SEAL explains why bin Laden was dangerous when killed

A former Navy SEAL who participated in the raid on Osama bin Laden’s Pakistan hideout last year said the al-Qaida leader was shot dead because his arms were hidden and he may have been holding weapons.

Appearing Sunday on CBS’s “60 Minutes,” the author of the recently released book, “No Easy Day,” said one SEAL fired after seeing a man's head poking into a hallway. He said he and another SEAL shot bin Laden again after finding him on his bedroom floor with a bullet in his skull, because bin Laden's hands were hidden.

That's more detail than was included in the book, written under the pseudonym Mark Owen.

CBS altered Owen’s appearance and voice for the broadcast.

The Navy SEAL's controversial account of the Bin Laden raid goes on sale today. NBC's Danielle Leigh reports.

Commander: Navy SEALs reveal too many secrets

Pentagon officials say bin Laden was only shot after fleeing into his bedroom, and have threatened legal action against Owen for possible releases of classified information.

Owen denies claims of political motivation for the book.

I wonder if this SEAL was a cop because he uses the same excuse police use when they gun down unarmed people.

When it first was published, I almost fell for it.

Now it becomes less and less believable with every re-telling.

As is the case with most good lies, we DO have the whole story, and some parts of other stories.

Ozzy1957, I honestly can't tell if you make inflammatory statements to incite responses or if you believe what you say because you don't verify your facts. I haven't read every comment you write but your comments caught my interest enough to check on what you claim to be quotes.

I don't mind hearing negative comments about people (in this case, the President) when they are true. I believe this, as well as other elected officials should be completely accountable in the actions that represent the US. I find it unfortunate when people post untrue statemements with the knowledge that many people will accept the written word as fact. You sir, are either posting lies or believe the lies that you are told. I spent a career defending this nation and the right of people to say things that I don't necessarily agree with. I simply disagree with spreading disinformation. Perhaps you are not a Tea Party member or Republican but whatever the case may be, you should at least provide accurate information.

If they prosecute the seal, then they should prosecute all of those who have leaked secret information from the White House!

Former Navy Seal... I was wondering since Seal Team 6 was assassinated 2 weeks after they "took out" bin laden.

I guess all those middle eastern newspaper stories were a hoax in Nov 2001 claiming he was dead.

Venom, if you take an oath and sign on the dotted line not to disclose or more commonly known as the non-disclosure Act, you have committed a felony against the US government and betrayed all of those who you swore to protect, hence treasonous acts. Get a life Vernon. Stop the BS rhetoric and do some reading of the CFR's and you will learn what this SEAL did was betrayal and an act of treason against the US no matter what party is in.

Of course Bush II and Cheney nullified any ethics in our government when they betrayed an CIA Field Agent due to her spouse not telling the lies they were peddling to the public misleading every citizen in this country. I guess this SEAL saw an opportunity to cash in like others in the Federal Government have doing since 2001.
