Subscribe to RSSNEW ORLEANS -- A 57-year-old New Orleans man was accidentally shot and fatally injured by his wife who mistook him for an intruder, police said Monday.
The shooting occurred about 11 a.m. Monday (noon ET) in the 5800 block of North Claiborne Ave. in the Lower 9th Ward.
Police said the man, named by the Times Picayune newspaper as Charles Williams, died at the hospital.
No charges were immediately filed in the investigation.
The newspaper said the man's 53-year-old wife was not arrested.

The Times Picayune reported that the Orleans Parish district attorney's office is expected to review the case, quoting a news release from a police spokesman, officer Garry Flot.
Williams' daughter said the family was too upset to talk about what happened, the newspaper reported.

If it was a tragic mistake then my condolences to the family. that said, the first things police should check out are insurance policies and if there were any hidden boy friends. As for the anti gun crowd I say screw you. More people die from accidental overdoses then accidental shootings. Guns in the hands of honest people is what keeps our country free!
But this wasn't an accidental overdose. This story (the one you're commenting on) is about a lady that accidentally shot her husband. Obviously she wasn't responsible enough to own a gun. That's the problem; putting guns in the hands of irresponsible people.
Rocks have killed more humans than any other weapon in the history of man. And they don't require a permit, registration or NRA membership.

For an article that gave little to no information, you all have come to some pretty distinct conclusions. If this indeed was an accident, then just imagine for a minute what this lady feels like now, and what she'll suffer with for the rest of her life. I would prefer to know more before I say more.

I agree. I highly doubt if the government wants more people dead to make money or the NRA would sanction this shooting. Guns are my hobby, not my God. My guns have never moved on their own. I don't answer my door with a gun--robbers don't knock. For those who don't like guns, I am perfectly fine with that. For those who like guns, I am perfectly fine with that.

Actually the numbers are closer to 80,000,000 LEGAL firearms owners. And there are approximately 300,000,000 LEGAL firearms.
How many ILLEGAL firearms? You'll need to survey the street thugs and gangbangers to get an accurate count, but don't expect a truthful answer. They're not known for obeying the law or their truthfulness.

I feel sorry for the lady, and as far as I know we are all innocent until proven guilty. Let's let the authorities handle the investigation before you start ASSuming she is guilty. Someone asked the question "why didn't she recognize her husband". It's called ADRENALINE ask any police officer and they will tell you the same thing.
My prayers go out to the family who are now having to deal with this tragedy.
