A worker at a Hooters in Queens, N.Y., resigned after identifying a Korean-American man and his girlfriend with a racial slur.
A Korean-American man is suing a Hooters restaurant in Queens after a worker there identified him and his girlfriend on a receipt using a slur referring to Asians, they allege.
Kisuk Cha, 25, and his girlfriend, both Korean immigrants, placed a to-go order at Hooters in Fresh Meadows, Queens on July 10, according to their lawyer Daniel D. Baek.

After placing their order, the couple noticed their hostess and another worker standing at the computer giggling and "gawking at them," according to the lawsuit.
When their hostess handed them their receipt, it had the word "Chinx" printed in the space reserved for the customer's name.
"Here we are in Fresh Meadows, and we have large populations of Asian Americans — Korean Americans, Chinese Americans, Indian Americans, you name it," said Baek. "It's happening right here in Fresh Meadows. I'm shocked."
Cha told the New York Times he was so distraught that he lost his appetite and, when he got home, threw the food away.
The unemployed information technology specialist emigrated from Korea in 2000 and lives in Philadelphia, according to the Times.

Nicole Conboy, director of human resources for the holding company that owns the Fresh Meadows restaurant and three Hooters on Long Island, said the 17-year-old hostess admitted to the act and immediately resigned, the Times reports.
The company's lawyer wrote in a letter to Baek, "It does not reflect the manner in which the restaurant is operated," and said the worker's conduct was "deplorable" and "egregious."
Earlier this year, the Papa John's company had to apologize after a worker in a Manhattan restaurant printed "lady chinky eyes" on a receipt for an Asian-American customer. The worker was dismissed.

SHENIKA was the name posted on the receipt as the Server. Blacks cannot be Racist; according to Jessie Jackson, only White folks are Racists.

Anybody can be racist as I am sure YOU know. As for ebonics, a lot of kids speak and text with this language, not only black kids. When I went to hooters for take out, I was waited on by one person and my order was entered into the computer by someone else. So it's a great chance that the waitress "Shenika" may have not even been the one who wrote "Chinx" on the receipt since it was printed on there and not hand written. If that be the case "Shenika" may have just taken the blame, or it could be that the hooters administration are even blaming a "Shenika" for this incident. "Shenika" may not even work for hooters!

No doubt about it this was a terrible thing for someone to do,but not worthy of any law suit. I would venture to say that some point in time almost everyone will be insulted or discriminated against,even white folks. Lawyers use hurt feelings as a cash cow. Has any honky,round eyes,whitey,pecker head,red neck or white devil every won a racial slur case?
If he was so offended and sickened by the receipt and behavior of the hostess, why even pay for the food and leave? I would have demanded to see a manager immediately, not drive home throw away perfectly good food when I am unemployed and probably did not really have the money to spend in the first place. This whole story sounds or should I say smells rotten to me. Hell the "hostess" was probably in on it, why would you do such a stupid thing that you know will get you fired.
A lawsuit is not the answer to this problem. When a restaurant is sued for it's employees being racist jerks it hurts everyone in the end. The man's anger should be properly directed at the employee not the owners. and indirectly each one of us who have to deal with higher cost and possibly smaller portions because of this lawsuit. The waitress should be fired, and sued for defamation of character. then she would beheld responsible for her actions. the rest of us should not suffer because of her actions.

"HOOTERS" remains a "joke of a restaurant". On their "best day" their menu and their service is mediocre.
I speak as a 30+ year veteran of managing, patronizing and critiquing restaurants from coast to coast. Of all the restaurants I can patronize with men or business associates, I can rarely recall "anyone" even suggesting HOOTERS over the years.
Remember, HOOTERS "brilliant concept" for attracting patrons remains a staff of "plastic breasted women"; not their "specialty menu" or "award winning recipes"... just "HOOTERS?"
Any "girl" who would want to work and accept being "labeled as a HOOTERS waitress" is an idiot.
Why anyone wonders why such a collection of sleazy girls with low IQ's does these idiotic things just hasn't really studied the "concept".

Had the receipt said "(the N-word)" instead of that anti-Asian (anti-Chinese!!, no less!) slur, this would be on the front page of every newspaper, never mind every New York City newspaper. It would've also been the lead story on not just the such-and-such o'clock news on every TV station in New York, but on the regular-TV network news and the all-news cable channels!
ALLERGIC TO STUPID PEOPLE, it's not possible to be allergic to yourself!, now ***IS***!!! *it*!!?!! And besides, that's the first time I've seen Ebonics written partially in the Gullah/Geechie dialect, if you're familiar therewith.

Hooters open in 2005 and when bye bye in 2008 in my town. The town I live in has more churchs than liquor stores, so Hooters lock it up and when home. But this guy needs to get over it......
The CEO of Hooters should publicely say that "it is not company policy to offend any racial group, and we would hope that all CHINX would continue to patronize our establishment"........hopefully Hooters would get the same response as the Chikfila episode, and watch sales go thru the roof of supporters that agree that everybody has the right to free speech (offensive or not)...and nobody has the right to Not be offended. hahahahaha

Americans take the receipt to the manager and get the girl fired. The manager gives them a gift card and apologizes.

The guy is a little bit sensitive, the girl lost her job, her source of income, her lively hood, just because he couldn't stand an insult. But, no, that is not enough, he wants to win the lottery too!!! He is unemployed, he should understand what it is like to loose your job, for most people it is a lot bigger thing than getting insulted. This whole thing is retarded, just a lawyer looking for a buck and a looser looking for a free ride.
Hooters did their job terminating that employee for unethical conduct...and apologizing stating what she did was deplorable...............they should not be the one being SUED ....they need to go after that EMPLOYEE as it was that EMPLOYEE who made the racist slur.....that person should never work in a diverse establishment and it should be on Court Record...so she learns a valuable lesson~
But they won't get any money from her. You sue everyone involved, tangentially involved or near by when it happened, BUT only if they have deep pockets.
Why is there a 17 year old hostess at hooters?
There is a lot of foul, obscene, profane, vulgar language these days. Movies, tv, music, etc. glorifies and encourages it. So why is it so surprising that racial slurs are happening? The lack of respect of ourselves and others is rampant!
The immature 17 year old was right to resign and the restaurant owes an apology, a refund, and an offer of a free meal. To sue over this is wrong.
Any solicitor will say it is not wrong to sue, they get a fortune for what ever the outcome is.
Sue the person who wrote it. NOT FAIR to sue the restaurant. Why was a 17yo working there? List her name, and race so the readers can know it was racial or not.
Not only was it a slur, but she couldn't tell the difference between a person who is Chinese and Korean.
Teens do these thing because they can get away with it. IF you can drive or work, you are adult enough to have your name listed.
