A worker at a Hooters in Queens, N.Y., resigned after identifying a Korean-American man and his girlfriend with a racial slur.
A Korean-American man is suing a Hooters restaurant in Queens after a worker there identified him and his girlfriend on a receipt using a slur referring to Asians, they allege.
Kisuk Cha, 25, and his girlfriend, both Korean immigrants, placed a to-go order at Hooters in Fresh Meadows, Queens on July 10, according to their lawyer Daniel D. Baek.

After placing their order, the couple noticed their hostess and another worker standing at the computer giggling and "gawking at them," according to the lawsuit.
When their hostess handed them their receipt, it had the word "Chinx" printed in the space reserved for the customer's name.
"Here we are in Fresh Meadows, and we have large populations of Asian Americans — Korean Americans, Chinese Americans, Indian Americans, you name it," said Baek. "It's happening right here in Fresh Meadows. I'm shocked."
Cha told the New York Times he was so distraught that he lost his appetite and, when he got home, threw the food away.
The unemployed information technology specialist emigrated from Korea in 2000 and lives in Philadelphia, according to the Times.

Nicole Conboy, director of human resources for the holding company that owns the Fresh Meadows restaurant and three Hooters on Long Island, said the 17-year-old hostess admitted to the act and immediately resigned, the Times reports.
The company's lawyer wrote in a letter to Baek, "It does not reflect the manner in which the restaurant is operated," and said the worker's conduct was "deplorable" and "egregious."
Earlier this year, the Papa John's company had to apologize after a worker in a Manhattan restaurant printed "lady chinky eyes" on a receipt for an Asian-American customer. The worker was dismissed.

suing Hooters is absolute bull s@&T ! Hooters had nothing to do with this. Lawyers will take any ridiculous case for gain.. The waitress or hostess is now un-employed, he or she knew he or she made a mistake and has learned a lesson. Hooters did nothing to provoke this. People need to get a life and move on, settle for a gift certificate if Hooters wants to do so, however, they certainly have no obligation to do so, it would just be a gift on their part, not a submission of any kind of guilt or responsibility or liability in any way!! This is just one of the many reasons businesses or moving to other countries, way toooooooo much BS trying to make it in the business world in this country. Oh, the coffee was too hot, I think I will sue ! Or, I slipped and fell in my own kethcup, I think I will sue! and on and on and on we go!

I'm really not surprised that this incident happened in NY. I left the NY area almost 20 years ago, to move to the South. NY, and NJ have become saturated with wise guys, racists, gangsters, and monstrous greed and corruption. I feel for the minority of decent folks who are still living there.

I'm an American mutt, so I have no distinguishing features that would suggest my ethnic background (mostly Romanized Celt in Germany, British Isles, and Jewish and I was called a "cheap Gringo" in Nogales once -- I went back the next year and bought the very same item for the same price I had offered, so who's the cheap one?), but I would take offense to any name that was said out of prejudice, meanness or sheer stupidity. There's no excuse for it.

In my opinion, these racial slurs didn't begin until the black-Americans started it. It may have been around a long time, but the black-American group insists on using their placard. If you are black and were born and raised in America, it is automatically assumed you are an American. Native Indians are well enough without adding American Native Indians. One look can generally tell you that, as does the black. American-Asian is also well signified in their physical features.
However, if the were born American, have a legitimate birth certificate from this country, why add fuel to the first by adding American to your groups name. If you aren't born here, then just keep your mouth shut.. unless someone should report you to Immigration.
The addition of American doesn't make black, white, Indian, Asian, or puple any more American. Perhaps they should add White-American to the list. Instead of referring to me as "caucasian", consider me a White-American! Who cares what your ancestry is -- that's for private conversations. I know who started all of this, and it should be shut down permanently.
Makes you wonder why Darwinian evolution is still taught in the government schools, doesn't it? Sorry not so, in so many ways. I don't know why so many people of other countries want to come here it's so racist it makes me sick at my stomach. The fact is that the only group of people that are not immirgants are the Native Indians of all tribes. So shut or dirty filthy mouths and keep those ignorant remarks to themselves. True most came over here willing and others brought by slave ships, but a small amount of them that came from Africa willing for starting business, and some becames slave owners themselves. So those are the Jim Crow Blacks and we have alot of those ones today, which feel that they are excluded from the rest of the black. Maybe cause the have a little prestige a little money, but at the end of the day they are just as black as the other. For of all Sir, Asians know how to save their money and spend it wisely. I can't help you didn't save for that rainy day. So don't fault this man and yes he should be able to go anywhere in America to eat without having to be subject to this kind of bullsh-t. He had paid his bill and now time to sue. A for the lawyer that took the case, yes this is what lawyers are for helping people when rights are being broken. Lawyers shouldn't be able to be elected on Capitol Hill as representing we the people, they can't handle the pressure of the invitation of greed from the speical interest groups. This is why we the people get sold out. I personaly think that if congress, senate takes money from them, why are they getting a paycheck, healthcare and a pension from the taxpayers. Sound to me this is fraud in a big way. And these lobbyists must be stop from having access to we the people congress and senate members. They need to give back the taxpayers dollars and benefits and take the money from speical interest and buy their own healthcare and penison plan. Better yet go to prison for fraud of taking paychecks and benefits from the very one you don't represent, the taxpayers.
