An investigation is underway after a doll with its face painted black was left hanging from a post at Kaiser Hospital in Riverside, Calif., where several African American employees work.
Kaiser Hospital Riverside in Southern California is investigating what appears to be a racist display directed at several African-American employees who work in the hospital’s IT Department.
The staffers said they work in an area that is restricted to employees only, so when Xavier Fields arrived for work, he was shocked to find a doll with a racial slur across its chest hanging from a post near his work station.

"It’s somebody who works within. It’s a locked area. You don’t go back there," Fields said.
The doll had its face painted black and was dangling from a rope around its neck.
"You’re not sure what to think. I got a supervisor and I let them know what’s going on," said colleague Tyree Hale.
The employees said they did not see signs that their complaint launched an immediate investigation.
They gave the doll to a manager and said they were so stunned — even scared — that they didn’t file a police report, but left it to the hospital to handle.
Kaiser issued a statement which read: “We are moving to investigate the matter and will take appropriate action. We do not tolerate any form of discrimination in our workplace and will take all appropriate measures to address the full scope of this situation.”
Officials at a hospital in Riverside, Calif., maintain that they are investigating the display of racist effigy near a black employees desk, despite not filing a police report. KNBC's Craig Fiegener reports.

Still, the workers say they’re not wholly confident in the investigation.
"I’m not for sure," said Hale. "I went to the boss and let them know what was going on."
Hale said he believes the doll was aimed at him since he is the first of his co-workers to arrive at work in the morning.
Asked why he didn’t file a police report, he said, "Sometimes we just shine it off because we’re just trying to stay working and pay our bills."

I am curious, could you point me to an example of "one of those false hate crimes" in the news that you keep hearing about? I must have missed that story. In this news article there is a photo of a doll with blackface hanging from a noose i dont doubt that this is legit but things like this and people who think that these instances are created by individuals to get attention are one of the more tragic things going on in race relations.
White people have it good! When they do something racist, they can blame the victim or justify it using statistics that they make up.
Tawana Brawley certainly comes to mind as a fake "hate crime" victim. If she had been white, both she and her "handler" would've been discredited for life, instead of going on the very lucrative career the way the Rev. Al Sharpton has.

You can't blame people for asking questions... well, except in the 17 countries where Holocaust denial is actually illegal. You can still deny any other genocide, the crucifixion of Jesus Christ or the official story regarding 9/11 in those countries. Never since the Dark Ages has a single story had such force of law behind it in so many different countries but, no, nobody in America actually denies the Holocaust. Some simply want clarification regarding exactly which Holocaust you are referring to.

this type of thing has happened so often in so many workplaces that it is now a "copy-cat" crime used by blacks to try to stir up trouble against their white supervisors or co-workers, or for some other sick reason (please see post 2.23 above)

To blacks, any suggestion of lynching reminds them of the time when white people used to round up some blacks and torture them on Sunday afternoon while their wives and children picniced in the shade of the same tree the husbands/fathers were hanging the captured blacks.
This happened with such frequency that newspapers stopped reporting it, especially in the heavily bigoted south.

The responses from those working there sound strange, unless you're trying to set up a way to sue and get some fast money. Perhaps those voters in Philadelphia who had to walk passed two Black Panthers as to enter the polling place could sue. JCB, have you ever heard the expression, "the truth will set you free"? Apprently it is a national story if hundreds of people take the time to comment. Are you afraid of a national discussion on race relations in America. We have nothing to fear but fear itself. Mutual respect and compassion among all citizens of any country is the best path to a "truly" great country.

Some people need to realize that its might not have anything to do with racism. This could just have been one ignorant person mad at another and this person obviously tried to think of the worst thing they could say to get at this person. Do they not have cameras in this area? Most hospitals have them. I'm sure they could find out who did it or at least have an idea. Who cleans that area? Have you ever been in an argument with someone and when they can't come up with an intelligent arguement they just try to say something they know will make you really mad, like they are one uping you? Hk112, I am white and have definitely faced unprovoked racism by blacks simply because I am white. I never even knew what racism was until it was introduced to me as a child by other kids who were black and perpetuating the attitudes of their sloven, ignorant parents. I agree that the instance that happened to you was wrong and disgraceful, but blacks are not exclusive to this treatment. I have traveled extensively throughout the world (25 different countries to be exact), and I have never faced hypocritical discrimination like I faced from Black Americans (no....not African Americans...no such thing unless you emigrated here). It also seems that Black Americans are the only faction in the USA who constantly play the role of the racial martyr. Asians, Latinos, and Whites don't have the luxury of or desire to constantly beat this proverbial dead horse. Furthermore, if this sort of event happened to an Asian, Latino, or White by a Black (which it most certainly does, and usually associated with an act of violence), it would absolutely NOT be reported.

Do people not realize that the civil rights act was signed a little more than 50 years ago. How many of your relatives were lynched? So where is the internal investigation, they could easily find out who was last to enter this area, by downloading the keycard readers to see who was last to enter or exit, before this employee entered, 5 minutes problem solved. This should not be taken lightly, I don't care if the action was directed towards white, brown, black, red, yellow or green.
If this is a "faked up" deal by someone there in IT, they'll likely get away with it as they are probably the main or even the only ones with original access to things like security camera back-up files and the like. If it's real, they should be very able to help the authorities figure out who most likely did it.

I don't know why non-black people don't get this, or are jealous that blacks can call each other "nigga" and nobody else can't. It's an easy concept. Think of it like this - you can make fun of your own family. You make jokes about your close-knit circle of friends (as long as they don't mind). But should an outsider or someone unrelated try saying the same things you say about your family or friends, you'd be mad. You can pick on your little brother, but should someone else do it, there'd be a problem. It's the same concept. Although I don't like the word myself (I am black), this is why it is, for the most part, acceptable for blacks to say it to each other, but completely inappropriate if someone who isn't black says it. Other groups (gays, other racial groups) have their own words that is okay to use if you're one of them, but wrong to say if you're not one of them. Just make up your own word for your group of people if you're so jealous or upset about the fact that there's a word you can't say.

However, saying that all men are created equally, has no REAL meaning. That's just a slang. Maybe you should explain what "equally" means. The last couple of times a noose or other "racist" item was found hanging from a door or locker, it was placed there by the "victim." So let's wait and see.
If it wasn't placed there by the "victim" it could easily have been placed by a Latino or Asian as a white. Many hospital employees are not white. Many incidents in L.A. are Mexican vs black, black vs Mexican, or black vs Asian.
I know that if I were a minority group member and had just gotten a bad work review that it might occur to me to stage something like this and then explain that the review was just a byproduct of the "hostile work enviButronment" evidenced by this racial incident. But since we're not there, for all that we know there really IS a hostile work environment. Maybe these IT people are hated for being IT -- if so this wouldn't be the only place like that -- and the haters just see some of them being black as a "bonus" which makes for an easy way to get back at them.
There is no real benefit to a black man lying about this. He is not going to get a reward, or get a free day off, or get paid extra. These people at this hospital are working hard, trying to achieve the American dream.
While there may be some cases where bigotry is falsely claimed, those cases are overwhelmed by real cases of hatred against minorities. We cannot assume that the victim made it up, even if some fat guy with a radio show says so.

And most productive people the ones with jobs are diverse and could care less about skin color. And more about what type of person someone is. I have great friends of all backgrounds and despise bigots. Yet I also love the culture and diversity each of my different friends have. And would not want them to change who they are.
I always thought that by now our society would have grown out of racism. Maybe in 20 more years. I'll see it. One can hope.

We survive sticks and stones just fine except when the stick is a tree and the stone is a rope around our necks, literally. And who the hell is "you people"? We've made it through many crisises; the crisis of being the most hated people in this country simply because of the color of our skin, the crisis of being held accountable for anyone who looks like us when they engage in bad behavior, but are not allowed to show the same disdain for a whole race of people for the wrongs committed on us by them, and the crisis of fighting to get basic human rights afforded to all but us in this country so, yes, we'd make it through crisises (sp?) just fine thank you very much. Tell me this, how well would you handle "crisis" if in your ENTIRE LIFE, you went through it doing all the things normal, productive members of society are expected to do and did it KNOWING that there are those who will never see your accomplishments as those earned by you although you do the same things they do to attain those accomplishments, KNOWING that they hate you because you do not look like them and NOTHING you do will gain common respect afforded ANYONE ELSE will be given to you.
