Dash cam video shows a police officer dragging a 77-year-old woman out of her vehicle after she refused to show a driver's license during a routine traffic stop in Keene, Texas. TODAY's Natalie Morales reports.
A local Texas police department is standing by an officer who dragged a 77-year-old grandmother out of her car for speeding after she repeatedly refused to provide her driver's license.
The entire arrest was caught on video by the Keene Police Department.
The woman, Lynn Bedford, of nearby Cleburne, was stopped on Aug. 19 for driving 66 mph in a 50-mph zone.
Bedford told Sgt. Gene Geheb that she had a bladder infection and had to go to the bathroom, but the situation quickly escalated when the officer asked several times for her identification and she refused.
"Just hurry up; I have to go to the bathroom," she said.
"Let me see your driver's license and insurance, please," the officer asked.
She declined several times.
"No, I want to see your driver's license and insurance, please, and then I'll listen to you," the officer said.
"I'll give it to you in a minute," she replied.
"No, you give it to me now, or I'm going to take you to jail," he said.
"Well, go ahead," she said.
The officer then pulled her out of her car and handcuffed her.
Bedford's attorney, Clay Graham, of Fort Worth, said the officer overreacted.
"The officer is not very interested in listening to what she has to say," Graham said. "She gets a little frustrated. And then he just overwhelms her. That's what I see. And then it goes from routine stop to ridiculous stop."
Graham said Bedford was injured during the arrest.
He said Bedford is not interested in filing a lawsuit right now but isn't ruling it out in the future.
The lawyer said the woman was returning home from playing the piano at church when the incident occurred.
In a statement, Keene Police Chief Rocky Alberti stood by the officer's actions.
"This incident has been reviewed thoroughly by the Keene Police Department and the City of Keene Administration," Alberti said in a written statement. "All parties have concluded that Sgt. Geheb did not violate any state laws or department policies, and in fact was following department policy in regards to violators not providing identification."

An alternate Narrative here is to undermine the basis of all Government and thus reveal all forms of Government to be a lethal threat to all ... for all Eternity. This event we shall Never forget. Can you say Complicit ?
This cop has anger issues and a lot of stupid comments here. I have dealt with the elderly people and relatives and a lot of their reasoning and health goes down when they hit their mid 60's. Wait till you get to 67 years old and you will know what I mean. Geez she is already 77, she needs to be gently talked down or wait for backup for help and let the other cop gently talk to her and may work and not drag down like that. He could have broke her pelvis like the way he drop her on the street. THAT'S NOT THE WAY TO TREAT AN ELDERLY WOMAN OR YOUR GRANDMOTHER. I don't agree with the police department policy, it needs to be amended.
Anger issues or not, if your contention is that a 77 year old person is mentally incompetent then she shouldn't be in control of a motor vehicle to start with. The reason she fell out of the car when the officer was forcibly removing her is because of her insistence to not cooperate, it should be clear to anyone who has cared for the elderly that when all else fails they often resort to letting their bodies go completely limp, dead weight is the most difficult to control. This was just another tactic employed by the spoiled woman to get her way. Calling for back up or following her to a restroom not only puts others at risk during the time wasted by this woman and her need to defy authority but also risks all those who could be affected by the two courses of action you offer. If she had acted like an adult none of this would have happened, if she can't act as an adult she shouldn't be driving, period.
Awesome !!!!!!!
she is lucky, I have seen officers handcuff and then beat women for less.
Yea that's what the verdict is here what weve all seen in the public arena (thank God for Digital cameras and Youtube) . Except for The pro-abusive and complicit Lawbreakers that condone and harp on this being a non- compliant B.S. cover story to make the action justified. The only people ya'll are fooling on here is yourselves. The more you get on here and express what it is that you think is right about this the more we can see how fkd up your thinking process is , so keep the hits Coming we want to here all the many excuse that you complicit Idiots can dream up on here.
She was in potential danger of being tazed and killed . Everyone who has been speaking out against this has been directly told otherwise and reminded about compliance. So this is what i have to say re-guarding all the Excuses given for his cowardly and abusive action ,if you have a problem about what i have say ,let me know. This is for you , you may as well be having a conversation with a brick wall when it comes to bringing up this Cowardly act of abuse and unprofessional conduct, from Most of these people on here involved with Unlawful Enforcement . These BOZO's heads are so far up their a$$ with the fantasy of so called up-holding the law they can't see that what that officer did was wrong in the way that he lost his @!$%#(SH$t) and acted stupidly. I guess you couldn't detect how his voice was cracking (from GUILT and Shame )as he was getting worked up to go thru with his abusive tantrum against the Ll Old lady. It's astounding at the level of intelligence and Immaturity it projects to Non- Law enforcement . You could tell them also there is No Excuse for this behavoir , till your blue in the face and it still will fall on deaf ears and small-mindedness to this fact. In they eyes of these people they are right and Fk everyone else.
Hey Sean, how long have you been a psychic? Because, unless you know EXACTLY what he was thinking when you claim his voice was cracking from guilt and shame, you don't have a leg to stand on.
Try being a cop for a while and see if your attitude towards law enforcement changes.
Lets just give everyone a pass when they reach a certain age, that makes perfect sense, you're XX years old, the law no longer applies to you. How old was Bin Laden again?
Tey were both wrong. She was being defiant because he pissed her off. He could have easily diffused the situation. I don't know how it works everywhere else but, here the first thing an officer asks is why were you speeding and are you having a medical emergency. If this officer had done that did that he could have offered to call an ambulance if she was truly in distress. If she refused and denied a medical issue it would have all been on her.
sure jrouss28. lets waste an emergency vehicle on a woman that has to take a leak.....great idea.
Okay; I am a 58 year old grandmother of seven. I watched this clip, and RECOGNIZED that this woman is HABITUALLY beligerent!!! It is common knowledge that when one is pulled over for speeding (or even a burned out brake light), one immediately gives the Police Officer one's driver's licence and registration. This woman was mouthy and didn't even INTEND to reach for her D.L. and Registration. She mouthed off REPEATEDLY to the officer, even as he initially politely requested the usual documentation. Using the "age" card is a copout (no pun intended). SHE could have been humble and apologetic, gotten her documents, and easily avoided a situation. Give credit where credit's due. She was not some poor, frail old lady. She was a snarky cow! If I was in the car with her, I would have been embarrassed to death!!!
To the morons who think the cop is wrong---Get a life and grow up. All the woman had to do was comply with a simple request for her id and insurance. A lot of people lie and come up with excuses to get out of a ticket or avoid further investigation. This old woman thinks she can do what the hell she wants and was proven wrong. Wether your 18 or 77 the law is the law so get over it and be a productive member of society.
It looks to me that this women is getting too old to drive. If she has to exceed the speed limit every time she has to go to the bath room she is endangering others. Take away her drivers license. She should have just given him the license and not been so combative. Maybe she has beginning Alzheimers. They can become combative. Lady if you drive over the speed limit you should suffer the consequences. You could have killed someone and then your excuse of having to go potty? Wear a depends
Planet Earthlings deserve a Cosmic Slap right upside their thick skulls wake'm the fk up. Civil Obedience is the problem right on you, rock apes are pathetic excuses for Law enforcement for your complicit attitude towards abuse . Don't give us any o that compliance garbage and oh this is the best line ya'll got " I don't Kn--know Y-y-you i 'm in F..fear of my safety ". If fear causes you to act so stupid you should find another suitable employment. Always ya'll violate someones right to go about their business unmolested and worse that you do, in your mind your serving the system what is it that you really serve?
Any of you Complicit Morons can't think of a better way to justify your complicit and criminal behavior ???? C'mon i really want you to wow me and everyone else with your pathetic excuses. Please TRy.
>> "white women grow up believing that and treat cop like they are their servants."
The cops ARE here to serve thus they are our servants. They work for us. We pay their saleries. When they resort to brutality fire them and put them in jail.
I guess they are tired of my sh*t on here i have no takers to defend this Coward they have so much respect for. LOL. Fktards
Yeah well, you wait for almost a month after a story is posted to start spewing your crap on here. My guess is most people have moved on. That is probably the reason you haven't been banned as yet. My advice to you: In the future, if you are pulled over by an officer, do exactly what she did. I'm going to enjoy reading about it.
LOL well C'mon then and do some defending of your buddy. Whats your excuse for abusing an old Lady and breaking the Law???? I bet you have many excuses and justification for such behavior . Your safety and well being is More Important than another person Right to not be harmed or Molested ?? This was posted on facebook and your friends deleted it LOL.BTW I do know how to drive a vehicle and not do anything to cause myself to be pulled over your welcome.
Well said Sean. It's hard to believe that we live in a world where the Law enforcement Feels that it's perfectly OK to Beat up little old Ladies. It's not really hard to believe at all . The pick of the pathological litter for this Job is one of being retarded and without empathy and no Moral Compass to guide them with compassion to properly serve the community.
By all means, Sean, the next time you see an officer let him know how you feel. He won't do anything about it; just suck it up like he does everybody's abuse. Abuse that he recieves daily from asshats like yourself. You are talking about people that don't have much to do with the public unless they are behaving badly, yet y'all want them to have superhuman control and discipline. Compassion? The way they are treated and you want more? Poke a dog with a stick enough and eventually you'll get bit. IMO, the ol' bitch got what she had coming and if he didn't have control she would have gotten worse. Age is no license to do as you wish, regardless. Whether you wish to admit it or not; without the law people such as yourself would be victims.
I'm sorry for stooping down to such an level of ignorance about this post I'm not usually prone to such combative exchanges. I do however believe that Law enforcement is a profession that requires a higher standard of conduct and intelligence from the men and women that take on the task of Law Enforcement . When non law enforcement people see the Police Tazer and shootings that kill innocent people on the news or Youtube showing the public even outright murder of people for no apparent reason and i know these things happen and more that give your job a negative and untrustworthy appearance . The code of silence for any crimes committed by police within the Law enforcement is a betrayal to the community and office that you hold. with that said i must apologize for being such an A$$ about this.

Wow, what a hero! He should be rewarded to having caught a very dangerous criminal - 77 y.o. woman with bladder infection! Such women are extremely dangerous!! )))
she wasted more time being combative if she even had to pee. I did not see her wet her pants !!
