Biker, I believe that it is not law to have to carry an ID with you at all times, it is smart to do so however. Also, an ID must be shown to cash a check, purchase cigarettes or alcohol, enter into certain concert events, etc. etc. etc. and to enter the DNC in Charlotte.

I don't believe it is at all out of the question to ask someone to prove who they are when they vote. I am tired of people saying that requiring an ID is targeting minorities. Why Terry? It is against the law in almost every state for an adult to not have a state issued ID. I have voted in three states and always was asked for my ID when I heard they were trying to make it a law I was surprised it wasn't already. No person 18 or older should be without a state issued ID period. It has been the law of the land for decades. If it's a problem for minorities perhaps they should high-tail it back to whatever country they illegally came here from.

This is true, but many of these states are changing the id's that are allowed. In some, they won't allow a state ID, only a drivers license. In others, they used to accept student ID's issued at state universities, not any more BUT they WILL take a hunting license or a gun owners permit. And then there is Pennsylvania...Voter suppression law, done. This will give Mitt Romney Pennsylvania. They don't even attempt to hide their motivation. This is one election the GOP won't be able to steal, cheat, lie or buy themselves into.

Black clergymen have always made it their mission to be political at the pulpit. How do you think Jesse Jackson got thousands of signatures to run for President? How do you know that he doesn't? The reality that many don't seem to grasp is that there is a reason for the "voter suppression" techniques going on in some of the states. Republicans understand the power of the vote and in electing officials that will actually do the things to better all of America, not just the wealthy or the white; ALL of us. I know many black churches that mentor black kids or any child that is a member of their church. What better way to mentor than to encourage black Americans to vote? Blacks didn't always have that right, similar to the fact that women didn't always have the right. If there were a candidate that was seemingly trying to suppress the female vote, then pointing out historically what occured before women had the right could stir the need in women to vote. History will repeat itself if we allow ourselves to be complacent and to think that somehow we have overcome because we have a black President. It is quite true that there are a lot of white people in poverty, prison, etc. Of course there are far more white people, so that's not really a helpful statement. Looks good when you don't think about it though. Far more important are the percentages. For all the categories mentioned in your rant the percentages of the white population are far, far lower. Some of that can be written off as systematic racism, but not all. Ignoring the fact that there are far more dynamics involved than just racial lines - after all not all members of any race share the same backgrounds, culture, or nation of ancestry (even white people), there are some trends that can be seen. The percentage of the white population in prison is several times lower than that of the black population. The percentage on welfare is also lower. White America has the lowest abortion rate while also holding the second lowest unwed birth rate (asian Americans have the lowest unwed birth rate by a couple points, but this is due mainly to having the second highest abortion rate). In both these categories african Americans have the highest percentage, by quite a large margin. This is not an inherent racial quality of either group, but an aspect of their respective subcultures.

Handicapped people often times don't drive and don't always have need for an ID. You are right about whites being discriminated for college.I graduated high school in 1996 with honors.I was an active EMT by the age 15 and trying to head my education towards becoming a doctor but you had affirmative action going on at the time thanks to clinton and I tried applying for scholarships.They had 12,000 scholarships available at the time and 2 were for white males out of 12,000.My father made 60k a year so I didn't qualify for financial assistance but what they don't look at is I was one of nine children in my family and even though my dad made a good paycheck 60k doesn't go very far raising nine kids.I was denied education because there weren't enough minorities in colleges according to democrats.In Gonzales,CA (10 minutes from where I live)a few weeks ago they had 52 government agencies show up for a fair of some kind where illegals can find resources for schooling and money for food and housing and free medical services but I don't see them doing that in poor white neiborhoods.

Obama has never disavowed his white half. He has praised his white grandparents, particularly his grandfather who served during WWII. As for whether he is white or black. In this country, if you look black, you are black. If he had tried to claim himself as white he would have been called a liar. I've known many people of mixed race, all of them were called black, because the white world sees only their blackness. I believe if someone wants to remind people of events that has taken place in the past, good or bad, they should be able to. Any responses, emotions, perspective regarding it should be expected and respected but open for meaningful discussion, with the understanding and acceptance that there will differences of opinions, that can be used for agents of change, hopefully for the good. Sometimes it is not so much about hearing what others may say, but letting other actually hearing themselves and reassessing it for themselves.

There is no law on the books that says that it is ok for 10,000 citizens to take the law into their own hands, courts be damned, and hang and burn someone. The accusation was placed on these boys because one of them whistled at a white girl, whistled! Indian had over 5,000 hangings from reconstruction until the late 1960's. Are you fine with vigilanty justice? Should we just forget about trials then and just kill people all free willy nilly without due process?

The point is not whether or not the people being lynched were guilty, it's that they were never given a trial for the crimes they supposedly committed. When someone is not allowed to have a trial, how is it possible to know if they are innocent or guilty? Granted, our court system is not perfect and it sometimes fails; but it's certainly better than a mob of people outside a jail taking the law into their own hands and meting out justice based on skin color! My fervent apologies. The lynching in San Jose, mentioned above, was of two White men who alledgedly, kidnapped and murdered the son of a prominet Store owning family.

The Pictures were similar - bodies disrobed from the waist down, genitalia removed - cut or ripped from the suspects while they were alive .... faces beaten beyond recognition. In a Black and white picture - they all look the same. The one fact that ties them together was - White or Black, No one was ever convicted of the double lynching and the police felt it was not practical to protect their captive, unarmed, prisoners, after all, everyone knew they were guilty and a trial was just a technicality.

Keith Bardwell, justice of the peace in Tangipahoa Parish, says it is his experience that most interracial marriages do not last long.

"I'm not a racist. I just don't believe in mixing the races that way," Bardwell told the Associated Press on Thursday. "I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else."
