It has been one year since the original group of protesters showed up in lower Manhattan to speak out against economic inequality. NBC's Brian Williams reports.
NEW YORK, Updated at 8:35 p.m. ET -- Looking to reignite their movement on its one-year anniversary, several hundred Occupy Wall Street activists protested in lower Manhattan Monday, staging a sit-in near the iconic New York Stock Exchange and swarming through the streets in costumes and toting American flags and signs.
Police said more than 180 protesters were arrested, mostly for disorderly conduct. Earlier Monday, protester Michael Aaron said some religious leaders and dozens of others were arrested after sitting down in the street and on the sidewalk, blocking the thoroughfares.
"We're just at year one. We have a really big mountain to climb. But we're hoping to get the power back to the people," said Kim Fraczek, 37, who wore an Obama mask. She was with a man, Erik McGregor, 44, who had on a Romney one. They said they were aiming to show the two were controlled by money.
"In our bipartisan system, when the two candidates for presidency are doing everything to kneel down to the corporations and banks and turn against the people, it doesn't matter who you vote for, because the war machine will continue," said Fraczek, a handbag and jewelry designer.

An arrest on Wall Street as Occupy protesters circulate through the financial district trying to disrupt business on Sept. 17.
The early morning protests and marches were marked by festive cheer, with demonstrators throwing confetti and glitter, carrying balloons and singing "happy birthday." But some protesters also reflected a more somber tone on the anniversary of the day when they set up a nearly two-month camp in nearby Zuccotti Park to protest against income inequality, corporate greed and money in politics.
"It's kind of a day of reflection, a day of celebration, a day that reflects some collective muscle and show of force. And I also think to remind not just ourselves but the world ... that things haven't really gotten better in the last year. In many ways they have gotten worse," said Ian Williams, 27, a graduate student at New York's Hunter College in social work. "And the project we're sort of embarking upon is a long term one."
Protestors gather around the New York Stock Exchange on the one year anniversary of Occupy Wall Street. WNBC's Lori Bordonaro reports.
At some points, protesters blocked traffic and there were a few skirmishes with police that NBC News staff witnessed.
Many protesters wore costumes, such as a group who marched into a Bank of America dressed as polar bears and then formed a meditation circle with others in front of the bank. One of the protesters held a sign that read, "Wall Street: The Business of Extinction."
Another group, clad in black, carried cardboard headstones painted white, with some reading, "RIP" or "Here lies." A woman leading the group had a sign that asked, "What is the cost?"
"The one percent is dictating to the rest of us how we can live our lives," Wes Nickerson, a 59-year-old home health helper from Cambridge, Mass., said as protesters streamed by singing The Beatles' lyrics, "you say it's your birthday."
Hundreds of protesters march in Manhattan's financial district on the one year anniversary of the birth of the "Occupy Wall Street" movement. CNBC's Kayla Tausche and John Carney report.
"I had to come here today because the issues are pressing," he said.
Ahead of the protest, Linda Brown, a retired teacher from Brooklyn, gathered with about 100 activists blocks from the NYSE preparing to join the larger sit-down.
"I think what we have learned a lot in the last couple of years is that the financial crisis wasn't just an act of God ... it was brought about by a whole lot of criminality," said Brown, 66, who has been participating in Occupy since last October.
"This is our democracy, it's really at risk," she added. "We're petitioning for redress of our grievances."
Though Occupy Wall Street galvanized thousands of people across the country last year to protest against the abuses of what they called the "one percent," their numbers have dwindled amid internal squabbling, questions over leadership and financial transparency, and what critics called a lack of direction and goals.

Occupy Wall Street protesters circulate throughout the financial district trying to disrupt business Monday.
But they're hoping Monday will help put more focus onto their original concerns: corporate greed, income inequality and money in politics.
“Why are we going back to Wall Street? Because the one percent wants it all and they’re not giving anything up without a struggle. Economic conditions are roughly as bad as they were a year ago and for many, many people they’re precarious,” said Bill Dobbs, of the Occupy Wall Street public relations team.
What happened to Occupy Wall Street?

Monday's demonstration will culminate three days of teach-ins, marches, a town square and other events in New York leading up to the anniversary.

Arrests of activists and photographers are happening as protest happen right now. Democracy Now! is spending a lot of time covering OWS today. Watch with updates from the ongoing protests at
The SEC investigates Wall St. 24/7, they aren't known for letting criminals get away.
Now who is going to investigate these delinquents that are crapping on cop cars, smashing store windows, dealing drugs and raping women within their own ranks?
Now they are even trying to blow up bridges and close down international ports as a way to fight capitalism.
This is starting to make me think that McCarthy was right.
"The SEC investigates Wall St. 24/7, they aren't known for letting criminals get away."
LOL! That's because they haven't broken any laws. Laws they wrote via lobbyist and "our" representatives that they own.
The protesters should be blaming the government. They just gave Wall Street and the bankers a $40 billion bail-out of mortgage debt at taxpayer expense.
elliot, "The SEC investigates Wall St. 24/7, they aren't known for letting criminals get away."
Corzine got away.
Look, most people would agree that there are some unscrupulus companies, investors, and investment banks out there that play the algorhythms to essentially steal money from everyone else. That being said, I'd say that most "Occupiers" would feel just as slighted if they didn't receive their 401k results, returns on their Apple stock, or pension benefits- all of which come from returns on investments. While you can be mad that the CEO of a top 100 company may get $30M per year you do have to understand that their decisions keep the company in the top 100 and a lack of performance for their investors equals loosing their job. Not happy that they close a factory here? Ask why was the factory here closed- was it because it was moved across the country to a lower cost area? Was it moved overseas because consumers want a $40 item, not a $75 one? Cost of utilities and materials going up? There may be many reasons that you should try to find before deciding on their move.
Similarly, Occupy would do a lot better sitting on the steps of Congress than disrupting people going to work elsewhere. We all know that our Congress spends most of it's time arguing about how bad the other party is- while spending far more of YOUR money then they have a right to. Government bloat is causing a lot of the pressures on you and the economy. Far be it for me to put some light on the issue, but I'm not a fan of about $140k in government debt being owed by each member of my family. Kind of takes some of the incentive out of working hard if the government works harder to spend it before I make it AND has the gall to tell me that they know better ways to spend it than I do.
Democracy now? Constitutional Republic Now!
Yes 0bama and Attorney General Withholder refuse to prosecute their friend Corzine.
The SEC caught him but the DOJ and WH let him get away.
Probably because they perform activities that aren't criminal, but people feel they should be.
In the words of the highest ranking democrat of the United States of Americas' House of Representatives regarding the OWS.
"God bless them".
And we can never forget her nice words for the Tea Party, "they can go to hell"
JoeNY,
Very well said!
If OWS wants to truly fix these problems, they need to be in DC pushing the politicians.
This administration sure does turn a blind eye toward "friendly" criminals.
I am waiting for OCCUPY to take up "Occupy the Vote" and help Democrats get out the vote and re-elect President Obama.
Obama/Biden 2012!
If that happens then we are all doomed.
If the OCCUPY movement really wants to see change, they can affect a "sea change" by volunteering and helping to get out the vote to re-elect President Obama and continue our movement FORWARD. Occupy members can hit the streets and contact voters and encourage neighbors to cast their votes and save themselves from the likes of the TeaParty Taliban in Congress.
Citizens in states, currently under voter suppression, could really use The Occupy Movement's help in making sure all qualified voters actually make it to the polls on election day.
If we don't USE our power to vote, we will LOSE our power to affect the direction of our Nation.
March in the streets and call for all reasonable citizens to VOTE this November 6th!
Every voter should bring his/her ID card too!!!
Only citizens should be allowed to vote.
I agree with JoeNY. Companies don't move factories for fun; it's very expensive to relocate. What we need is for Congress to create the financial incentives to keep those factories in place, or at least in the country, because sending them overseas is too cost-prohibitive.
But Congress would rather argue about who's allowed to get married, extend benefits to illegal aliens, and spend money on weapons systems the Pentagon doesn't want than solve our structural economic problems.
Time to vote out Obama. @!$%# Occupy!
@WINTER360; i googled "at" and nothing comes up? whats up wit dat?
When will the Obama Lap Dog Media stop trying to protect their Messiah and ASK SOME LEGITIMATE questions....??
Occupy = thousands of arrests- assaults- violence- murder- destruction exorbitant expense to the American tax payer - property damage in the millions
"understood" by the Obama Democrats & HiS media.
Muslim Protesters = see above
We have seen the change Obama brought... If it were not so pathetic, it would be laughable. It is time for the OWS people to get a job if Obama has not killed them all... and time for Obama to get a new job... one that allows less golf time.
100 people to a couple of hundred.................there are more media and police than protesters. Move along nothing to see here. They should be embarrassed with this turnout and just go get a latte at Starbucks and call it a day.
Dear OW crowd. Please don't try to show off your "uniqueness". Give the average citizen something they can relate to. Show the average person why this *is* thier fight.
gtouch:
The lap dog Obama Media has to run something.....
Anything to divert attention away from the real DANGER US citizens could be in.
The dishonest dangerous "protect our Messiah" media is no friend to that American public.
Its sickening ~ Its one thing when they Lie about the economy but these media CLOWNS are jeopardizing our SECURITY dammit!
I find it interesting that the Obama campaign slogan, "FORWARD", is the same slogan as the lemmings, with the same ultimate ending.
If Obama is re-elected the debt will soar to 18.8 Trillion. The top 1% already pays 37% of all income taxes while 50% pay none.
Interesting article...

The same Wall Street that made Hedge Fund speculators rich while geed was their only motive, not to actually make profits for their clients. Gee, Romney is big on helping these same rich Wall Streeters!
Have any of these protests ever worked out? I mean after a sit-in or demonstration, has the other side ever said "damn, look at these 70- 100 protesters! We must be in the wrong." Seems they would have more luck if they started yelling racism or something instead.
@elliot-3020456
Usually I agree with you but I can't on this one. The SEC is just another bloated government bureaucracy made inept by the reams of rules they are supposed to be enforcing. So much red tape that the smart crooks easily slip through the cracks. Bernie Madoff was investigated, I believe, 5 times by the SEC because everyone around him was furiously waving red flags but in the end they found nothing. Madoff was only busted because his own children dug up and turned over the evidence needed to put him away. The primary function of the SEC is to provide a false sense of security so people won't be too afraid to invest.
Of course on the flip side the anti-Wall St crowd just wants more rules, more bureaucracy, more of what is at the root of the problem. There is a reason rich people move their money to the Cayman Islands and that reason is that the regulations are much simpler and much easier to enforce and monitor which makes their money MUCH safer. There has never been a case of major fraud involving Cayman investments but rather than trying to emulate an obviously successful system we will double down on failure and make the problem even worse because the sheeple have been conned into believing that the purpose of regulation is to protect THEM. LOL! Silly sheep
Sow your Weeds< yes, and the top!5 own 42% of the wealth after a rise from 40% 2 years ago. The average tax paid by those top 1% is close to 15% of their earnings while I paid 21% and I'm in the middle. I hate republicans and the rich that they protect with loopholes only they can benefit from. Pay the same % that most of us pay and it will be fair!
Response to Dogma Bites---- How about OWS adopting two causes.....MoveToAmend and public financing of political campaigns as a means to make politicians reliant on individuals rather than corporations, the rich and their lobbyists for their campaign contributions?
Clwyd, Why should I be forced to pay your tax rate when you can voluntarily pay my tax rate.
Its called Capital gains, and it gets taxed at 15% if I hold the security for more than one year and if I sell it before one year it is taxed as regular income.
Jenart............I bet you could buy all the OCCUPY votes you want with bags of weed.
All they need to do now is sing "Danke Schoen". Then their message will be complete.
OWS has lost my support... Not because I think them wrong, I just disagree in the dirty way they try to represent average Americans...
Originally they started out representing me/us now they just look like a bunch of pot-heads... This coming from a progressive liberal...
The Obama administration is behind the occupy movement as long as they don't bother the liberal millionaires like the ones in Hollywood and Washington DC.
CLWYD,
If you are paying a 21% EFFECTIVE tax rate, you are doing it WRONG and it is your fault not ours. If you choose not to use deductions, exemptions, charities, allowances and offsets to effectively reduce the tax liability that you have to pay, you only need to look in a mirror to see who is to blame!!!
Why should OWS be picketing the House? The House is just the lap dogs of Wall Street. Wall Street is where the real criminals are because they have changed the laws to make their actions legal, like Rmoney stealing $44 million from us taxpayers legally. Here is where Wall Street is spending their money, and you should be joining OWS in protesting this too.

So, the Occupy losers are back.....so what?
Gotta love the OWS.
Yep, those people really know how to get the ball rolling. They've made such a statement that big business, the unions and special interest groups are fleeing Washington D.C. in droves. Members of Congress are begging for forgiveness for being bought and paid for and both political parties are desperately attempting to come up with new ways to fund their political campaigns.
What's that? None of that happened?? Oh wow...imagine that.
(for those who haven't figured it out...yes, this is severe sarcasm)
elliot and steelers, I think you have it wrong! it is called legal greed. I have no deduction or investments. Remember I'm in the middle class, my kids are grown and the rate stands 21% not the pulltry15 for those of you at the top! Should the top 15% own 44% of the wealth the next time in two years? They already went from 40% to 42% what next? 44% -50% A new aristocracy- get out your guillotines.
@clwyd-2621393
Ummm yeah, that's how freedom works, you get to keep what you've created.
WTF are you talking about? The average effective Federal tax rate for millionaires is 29%, the average for mid income is 15% and low income is less than 6%. So are you saying the rich should pay less?? Or have you just allowed yourself to be led around by the nose-hairs without bothering to see if actual facts matched the rhetoric you lap up?
No deductions?? LOL! You must not do your own taxes. I'll bet your effective rate isn't 21% either.
my spell checker...,
Yes, most of these people who are protesting worked on Wall Street and have a good idea how the Hedge fund operates to make greedy people richer and hurt those who invest. Read their signs and you will know. Some are dressed in Wall Street attire. GEEED, GEEED, GEEED has to stop!
The rich pay less even though the rate is more. Because of all the loopholes and how they can shelter their money. My brother-in-law makes 10 times more than me and he gloats over how he can shelter and use loop holes to pay a rate below 10%. When compared with me he even said, one year, he paid in less money to the Federal Government than I did. That year he got away with a 3% rate. Keep in mind that General Electric paid no taxes last year and they are a liberal business.
This is for all you OWS supports (just in case you forgot the words):
Danke schoen, darling, danke schoen,
Thank you for all the joy and pain.
Picture shows, second balcony, was the place we'd meet,
Second seat, go Dutch treat, you were sweet.
Danke schoen, darling, danke schoen,
Save those lies,darling don't explain
I recall Central Park and all,
How you tore your dress, what a mess, I confess, that's not all.
Danke schoen, darling, danke schoen,
Thank you for walks down Lover's Lane,
I can see hearts carved on a tree,
Letters intertwined for all time yours and mine, that was fine.
Danke schien, darling, danke schoen,
Thank you for seeing me again.
Though we go on our separate ways,
Still the mem'ry stays for always,
My heart says, danke schoen, auf weidersehn, danke schoen.
I just looked it up! In 2002 he paid in $3900 in taxes and I paid in $3,600 that year. His income was 10 times mine and still is. So we almost paid the same amount of $ to the government . Is that fair? It is legal, but is it fair?
SEC does not prosecute crimes. They do sue in civil court. NY Attny General used to do the work of the nation by criminally prosecuting NY Wallstreet sheysters. Elliot Spitzer was a hero at this. Then he ran for Gov, then he hooked up with a prostitute and that ended that. New NY Attny General is not so zealous. The SEC does inspections and if they learn of criminal wrong doing they can hand off to the FBI the evidence. The FBI, an arm of the DOJ and therefore the White house can be directed by the White House to look the other way from time to time. No need to control the SEC behavior because it cannot prosecute, only sue. They do keep the SEC budget low, lest they hire more investigators and really check out a lot of corp[orations. Civil court does not produce a conviction on anyone's record. Often the SEC agrees to secrecy on the case so the public never knows what the bad guy did, how he got caught, what the evidence was or what punishment he agrees to, or what the settlement fine was. Most often it's chump change compared to the impact of the bad behavior. All this explains why it keeps happening. The gubmint pretends to enforce, Wall Street PR campaign is to holler like they were being enforced against, they wink wink at each other and enjoy their lives, and the public stays calm because they think the gubmint is protecting their interests. Meanwhile the Wall street, bank and corporation lobby to dismantle the laws and regs that protect the public and investors so the banksters and Wall Streeters can continue their pirate operations.
That is interesting according to News Week late 2009 each American only needs to pay 3K and the Government debt is paid off. I remember reading it when I was picking up the wife at the air port coming home from Iraq.
So you think he is one of Americas Greatest presidents? Jimmy Carter created 10.1 million jobs in 4 years . He must have had one of the greatest economy's.
Jenart, yeah that's correct. If we want a change re-elect obama, that way he changes the way things have been for 236 years. Let him bring in a communist/socialist regime. Damn some of you people do not open your eyes or minds.
JoeNY hit the nail on the head:
Precisely: The reason why Occupy piddled out is because most of its support came from people who are unwilling to sacrifice their own family's comparatively low level of financial security in order to attack the system that provides that financial security. Support for changes, as long as they don't adversely affect you, isn't real committment.
Again: Precisely. Even those who don't admit to benefiting from the financial system themselves now cannot deny that they'd rather not purchase all that they do purchase for 80% more than they're paying now.
Three in a row. The tactics Occupy uses clearly show that they care more about causing others to suffer than they care about bringing about any improvements. They claim that they went to Congress already and didn't get their way, as if simply demanding what you want entitles you to have it. It's laziness, plain and simple.
Xabre is right about this. This is a nation of laws. Again it is a matter of laziness - the unwillingness to do the work necessary to bring about the change in the perspective of the American people that would have them agreeing to change the laws to make such actions criminal (even though those changes will likely reduce the financial security of many of those people necessary to create a majority supporting the change).
That's ridiculous: How the heck can you pervert reality enough to believe that Mitt Romney will result in more jobs, better jobs and/or any improvement for anyone other than 1%? I can respect Occupy supporters who say "vote for Stein" or "don't vote" but those who effectively say to vote for Republicans are either lying about supporting Occupy's ideals or utterly clueless about what the GOP represents.
Inadequate change (Obama) is better than negative change (Romney).
There is no independent indication that Romney getting elected will have any less effect on the debt. Most likely, Romney will waste more money on another foreign war than Obama would in rebuilding American infrastructure and industry. For reference: Compare 2001-2008 when Republicans held the White House last.
Auto 101,
Your ignorance is appalling.
You really think that if every American in this country paid $3000 that it would pay off over $16 TRILLION in debt?? Can you say epic fail in basic math? Please go back to school and learn some simple mathematics.
As for Jimmy Carter creating over 10 million jobs in 4 years, well that's a misnomer...same as giving ANY President credit for job creation. Jimmy Carter didn't create 10 million jobs anymore than Reagan created 16 million. Giving them credit for creating jobs is ignorant and something only a political ideologue would do.
Governments don't create jobs folks. Government policies only serve to either hinder or help the private sector create jobs. It is a fallacy that government creates jobs.
Not true, Obama is one of the most anti-business President of recent decades. But he will suck up to anyone who will give him significant money.
This quote is just another in a long line of clueless quote given by OWS during the last year. Bottom line, they are just as clueless now as they were 1 year ago. Go back home and stop wasting our time.
Wall Street Speculators manipulate the price of gas daily, they don't actually take delivery. We suffer the cost which at one time was controlled by supply/ demand economics. Greed/money have become the new God of America, just go ahead and remove it from the currency and replace it with "In Free Market I Trust".
BTW. You right retards doing the censorship because of free speech need to grow up and stop acting like little children.
It is simple, when the Corporations and investors have today more in cash in their hands than the last 50 years, waiting for a President that promote business, create a good environment, and set of rules it will result in more jobs, and Romney will do.. But, when we have a President that make the investors , the 1% his enemies and enemies to the country, creating more regulation, treating with more taxes, demanding stronger labor unions, fighting the success taking away the ownership from the people that succeed and giving to the government. there is no doubt the level of unemployment will continue high because Obama do not understand how business works.
I thought they were just busting 99ers
Tony Ironwork wrote,"You right retards...need to grow up and stop acting like little children." Because name calling is so mature and adds value to the public discourse.
@Millkit. I guess you missed the individual donor lists for those campaigns. Not the super-pacs, but the 1% rich hollywood stars (you know, the one's Obama wants to add extra tax too, who we will pre-suppose will NOT be taxed because they are Obama"s special interest's.)

The Superpacs are not the top donors. Clooney with 500,000 , other stars doing 40000 @ plate. Yet again, THE OWS Need to be in the HALLS of CONGRESS, The special interest groups will do what they want, but if we make enforcing the constitution, and doing the right things within the walls of the gubernment, Then and only then will change happen, Vote for NONE of the ABOVE, and bring the power back to the People.
clwyd-2621393
The numbers I quoted were the effective rate, in other words that is the rate they pay AFTER all of the deductions and loopholes.
So this is all about you being jealous of your brother-in-law? Because he is just one person, as I said, the average effective rate for millionaires is 29%. That is the AVERAGE, which means some pay more than that and some pay less. Surely you aren't suggesting we take the singular example of your brother-in-law and design our entire tax code to ensure he pays more taxes than you do.
@Tony IronWorker
Speculation is obviously STILL supply/demand economics. How else do you think it raises and lowers the price of commodities? It might be easier for people to take you seriously if you had a clue what you were talking about
And the "left retards" who do the same thing? You're not going to chastise them?
@Backcountry and others. "Ummm yeah, that's how freedom works, you get to keep what you've created." You created that ALL BY YOURSELF HUH? You made all the roads that transport your goods I take it? You ran all the wiring? You built the building, all the plumbing, electric generator, etc.? Not to mention building it right or so that it is safe and the building does not collapse, flood, catch on fire, etc. You built the internet? You guarded it all by yourself? You even printed your own money? Someone must have forgot about all those little details that allowed them to "create" a business in the first place and all the people that worked.
You could not create a business if you were being ruled by a dictator or king now could you? What don't you understand that THE ONLY REASON YOU CAN CREATE A COMPANY IS BECAUSE OF HOW ARE GOVERNMENT IS RAN AND OUR COUNTY IS SET UP? That is what gave you the chance or opportunity to "create" in the first place. Without the government and its rules you could not create chit. You depend on the peace and stability that it provides or else there would be people coming to take "your" life and possessions. Why else did everyone get scared of a bunch of pacifists protesting? You only created a bunch of new laws to limit their rights and ability to protest since this threatened your power and money. We will not even go into to the cases where rules were bent/broken just to break up peaceful protests all in the name of profit.
Why do you want to turn our government into a dictatorship? This was how Rome got its emperors, Caesar wanted to fix one problem and created another. Had he just took a break and relaxed with his buddies, he might not have been killed, and the wars afterwards might not have happened, which lead to the first emperor. The only time we need a dictator is during a time of war. Wars sometimes have to happen however, but it is never pretty.
"Bloat" How about lobbying less? Hard for a politician to do the right thing when you are throwing money at them all the time. I am not even going to waste my time trying to explain triple redundancy to you and how it ignores/prevents failures compared to a single chain. Just know that ALL critical military hardware uses triple redundancy to reduce the probability that failures will "kill" that device. HOWEVER, triple redundancy uses THREE TIMES THE POWER and is less efficient. This is called a design tradeoff, something non-engineers do not have a clue about. Our government is "designed" to be robust and long lasting, not for efficiency. The founding fathers made it that way for a reason, it has taken rich people 30 years to mess it up. Which is enough time to get the general population woke up, and to see what is going on.
Does moving a company help anyone, but the owners of the company? The old place gets no taxes, and the new place gets less taxes. Why is it a company can continue this, and to continue move until they pay no tax? Is this not what has already happened? Why did other countries lower their rates to less then ours? Did this help or hurt them in the long run, even though it provided a short term gain? Why is it that most countries governments are broke? Who has all the money? Why it is the people with the money NEED MORE? Don't they already have lots of money? What are they going to do with more?
What millionaire pays 29% in effective taxes, which is still less then the 35% they should pay? I think your numbers are being skewed by the people making just over 250k, since they pay one of the highest rates. After that point they have enough money to invest a large portion of it and skip out on paying taxes. WHY IS IT ONCE YOU HAVE SO MUCH MONEY THAT THE RATES GO DOWN? The rates should go up and up, since taxes ARE THE ONLY WAY TO LIMIT GREED. I have yet to hear or see another way to limit greed, but am open to suggestions. Taxes are like friction, they must be paid, and there is no way to avoid them.
How do you not understand ratios and that the more you make the less others are forced to make. Is there a magic money fairy that creates money out of thin air? What happens when this money fairy produces money increasing the supply of money, but does not increase the amount of raw materials? Could it be that all the money you worked so hard for just got devalued? Nine times out of ten "growth" is nothing more then inflation and devaluation. The numbers go up and up, but we still possess/buy the same amount of material/stuff. What was the point of working so hard in the first place if you are chasing your tail, carrot, or the wind? You are never going to catch it, just like you will never have enough money, it is an addiction.
Why is it that any government that uses your economic system is forced to print money until the end of time/infinity? That there will always be poor people that do not have enough money to feed themselves with in your system? The only way to stop printing money and for trickle down economics to work is that 100% of the money you get, you SPEND. You can save some for a bit so that you have a buffer, but according to math 100% of it must go back into the system OR ELSE. That means that savings and investments must lose value over time, just like food does. Food goes bad and spoils. All known particles in physics have a half-life, meaning they only live for so long, and even gold goes away eventually. Sorry, but those are the rules that our universe follows and how God designed them. Those rules allow us to exist and to create however, so do not be to mad at them.
Whine, cry, kick, and scream, but I am not following an alpha that only provides/lets me eat 1/1000 of a kill. You are not a noble or a king, and I sure as hell will not be your serf/slave. This wolf cannot survive on only 1/1000 of a kill. This wolf needs 1/10 and will not be happy until he does. This wolf will choose to become the new alpha and make 10/1 before I settle for 1/1000. We need to take care of the family/pack and not worry so much about short term "PROFIT". We need to take care of more long term stuff even if it make the immediate short term worse. It is easy to make things "good" for a short term/duration of time. The trick is getting it to work/run forever, that takes skill.
Point One: There is a difference between an economy based on companies that produce products that have a significant purpose, a value that the populace has a demand for, and an economy that produces a profit for a tiny percentage. A profit that is based on complex equations that only hold up in the short term, and eventually lead to bubbles, which inevitably burst.
This is the difference between John Corzine and Steve Jobs. Creating an economic climate that relies on the first option, instead of hedge funds and giant banks, is the key to fixing our woes. Not deregulation, not tax breaks. We've had those FOR 30 YEARS, so you all tell me, why aren't we at the top of our economic game right now? I mean, corporations are making record profits, so where are the jobs?
Point Two: You don't catch, "rapist", "murderer", or any of the other overly dramatic and baseless claims some of you are posting, by joining, supporting, or understanding why the OWS crowd is pissed. And, FYI, there are criminals in ALL political parties. Bad behavior isn't a qualifying factor to join one or the other.
Point Three: There is no point, in taxing people who don't have any money. Tax the money, not the populace. That's how you fix the debt.
Tired-2176559
No they didn't create those things. They paid someone to do those things with the wealth they create in their own business. Is that really too hard for you to grasp?
clwyd, now do the rest of the research and see how he got that rate. Charities, 401K, IRA, Investments, dependents, mortgage interest. Those are all available to you as well. He can take advantage of those because he makes more, but that doesn't make it inherently unfair. Donations to charity benefit society and are probably more efficient than government social programs. Donations still come out of the donors pocket. 401K and IRAs only defer the tax and investments involve risk and presumably help the economy. Possibly the tax rate reflects a major loss on prior investments. You should be more concerned with the 50 - 60 percent that pay no taxes. At least become aware of what those so called loop holes are. I'm all for a flat rate tax with the same rate for everybody. You say that would be fair and I agree, but your not going to find agreement with the liberals and those that pay no taxes now.
Don't worry, kids. You're just getting dumped on by the same spoiled Baby Boomer generation that also protested back when their parents wanted them to fight an absurd war.
The ones who didn't have to fight went on to vote for Reagan, who brought the national debt from billions to trillions with his "trickle down economics", an idea that you kids should pay for the government debts the Boomers rack up, not themselves. Even Bush Sr. called it "voodoo economics", demonstrating that he knew, back then, how absurd this was. Bush coined that term. Using a rule of "pay as you go", Clinton ended his term with a surplus, and the national debt clock was covered because it couldn't run backwards. But Bush W. gave that surplus back to the Boomers, rather than paying off some of the national debt. Bush W. continued to cut taxes while funding two wars - an act that was, naturally, unprecedented due to it's complete lack of logic, and the national debt doubled from $5 trillion to $10 trillion.
Bush W. also gutted Social Security to fund those wars. You know - the wars you kids had to fight? So now you kids have no Social Security left, even though you are paying into the system. During this time, the wealth gap of America increased to the point that there was hardly any middle class left, making America the only developed nation with such vast economic disparity, and causing most economists to refer to this country as a plutocracy. The pay of CEOs grew from 42 times that of workers to 343 times that of workers, and corporations decided to use the extra money to outsource your jobs. Now, all the wealthy old Boomers who spent their entire lives voting themselves tax breaks on your dime are telling you to go get jobs. Do they think you need labor representatives to stop the out-sourcing? Of course not! Back in their day it was easy to get a job, because their parents didn't do all of this to them.
Don't pay any attention to the cranky, spoiled, selfish Boomers. The money in their pockets are from the taxes they refused to pay, and your debt to foreign countries was racked up during this same time, so they would not have to suffer a loss in quality of life while they refused to pay taxes. They still refuse. Remember all of this, kids, when you go to vote.
Sarah-3043284
If you took every single penny from every single millionaire and billionaire you'd have enough money to cover one third of the current deficit without touching the debt. Clearly we don't have a tax problem in this country; no amount of taxing is going to "fix the debt". We have a spending problem and both parties are guilty even if they waste the money on different things.
Oh, and Steve Jobs built his massive business because people like John Corzine provided him with the money to do it. Just sayin'
I find it funny when the retort to someone rightfully pointing out that their own personal initiative and effort is what made them successful, is 'you didn't do that by yourself!!!!!'.
Maybe not, but the situation we're all in with regards to roads and bridges, and education, is an open existing opportunity for all. That someone's personal efforts allow them to gain more from the common public resource we all share does not mean that they owe more in return. You pay in for the opportunity, and then the situation is an economic 'ceteris paribus' condition, all other things being equal. From that point, it *is* individual initiative, ambition, and effort that creates the difference.
And when we aren't talking about a shared public resource, then those who created things that person used to gain their success were paid for in the market (which is admittedly screwed up from too much government meddling and not free enough), but still. If you pay for the goods and services you utilize to make something else, you've already cleared the debt by a fair transfer of value for value, so those who made the products you relied on can no longer present any valid claim on what you make post-trade.
If you jack up taxes you will gain less work as the economy suffers dead weight loss of societal surplus. Still, it's something we could consider if we actually had our spending binge under control. I know it's popular on the political Left to demand that we go back to the Clinton era tax rates. I'd be willing to entertain the idea. IF and ONLY IF we could return to the Clinton era spending rates. Tax rates would need to rise by about 18%. Government spending would need to be cut by about 55%. This is not just cuts in the current RATE OF INCREASE that the Left moans about being 'draconian' (for example if I spend $1 this year, and plan on spending $3 next year but then only spend $2 next year that is usually in DC's funny punditry math cried about as a 'draconian cut').
And both parties are to blame for this mess. We try to jack up spending every single year just dithering over how much to increase instead of actually assessing if we can or should, or should decrease, it never ever provides the return on investment the 'stimulus' crowd claims, and frequently leads to the doldrums we're currently stuck in, and yet people just keep clamoring for more of what is ailing us refusing to even consider our spending addiction is the root of the problem because 80 year old economic theories that have been in a large part debunked and discredited, and weren't even applicable to our current situation in terms of existing spending are sold as some kind of magical political fairy dust that will cure everything.
Spending has increased every single year, not just the last 30, and yet we can't get companies to hire. If that worked why aren't we at the top of our economic game right now?
Because it doesn't work. The Keynesian spending guru's assume a money multiplier above 1 in order to claim excess gains from government spending (meaning for every dollar spent more than one dollar is returned to the economy) and is an absolute necessity to work to overcome the dead weight loss from taxes, yet the measured money multiplier is never more than .75 (meaning we get about 75 cents on the dollar for every dollar spent by the government) so we do not override dead weight loss and then lose 25 cents on the dollar to government waste that would have otherwise been better spent in the freer decentralized private sector.
And people wonder why things are such a mess...
BackCountry,
Really? Show me the math that allows us to fix the deficit/debt by ONLY using spending cuts. Yes, banks INVESTED in Steve Jobs. They did not create a complex equation, leverage themselves around 40:1, bet on that equation and insure themselves with tax payer dollars, to do so, however.
Do you really not see the difference?
@BackWards,
Do you really believe all the garbage your posting? Either your the most ill informed person on the planet or your smoking way too much weed.
eliot:
You are right about McCarthy. McCarthy was prescient.
There are communists and socialists within the Federal government. America in no longer a capitalist nation when the Federal government has nationalized private enterprises: The federal government owns AIG; is the biggest equity investor in GM; has huge equity stakes in CitiCorp; bailed out Chase, Morgan, Merrill, BoA, GE, Chrysler, GoldmanS, etc. The communist-socialist are forcing every American to buy health insurance or else face a penalty; workers must partake membership in social security despite it being insolvent; the wealthy must surrender part of their income for wealth redistribution; and oppressive taxation with bogus representation.
The communists and socialists in the Federal government have garnished income under the guise of FICA, healthcare insurance, and numerous taxes. Its central bank's printing press QE1, 2, 3 and 'the Twist' continues to steal wealth from the thrifty Americans. While the working class becomes poor, the political party and ranking government officals become multi-millionaires. Under the socialist rule, government freebies, welfare, entitlement programs, and food stamps are used to create groups of proletariates addicted to government charity. Americans have become willing slaves.
There's no longer a 1st Amendment in USA. America under the communist-socialist rule, the OWS protestors are routinely arrested under the pretense of disturbing business. Violating the US Constitution at almost every turn, the Federal government has become the modern communist-socialist political machine strampling on the Bill of Rights.
McCarthy was right. There are communist and socialist in the Federal government. America is doomed.
So let's not increase revenue--let's just cut out everything we've already paid for and let the rich get richer. BTW how much $ do you need? How many billions of $ are enough?
Elliot: "This is starting to make me think that McCarthy was right."
Which is EXACTLY what the 1% WANT you to think!
The "Losers" are back.
Welcome home---now go back to your jobs.
Damn! I guess since the conservative super PACs know they cannot possibly run enough television ads to sell mittens to the redneck republican voter base, they will just put all the money into trashing Obama.
Looks like most of it is being paid to RWNJ internet bloggers right here on this liberal news channels website.
I hate to think what it must look like on the FauxNews comments section. I would look and see but, my head would probably explode from the sheer mass stupidity. I'm getting a headache reading most of this bull@!$%#.
I will be glad when the election is over and the vine goes back to normal.
better stay in the woods, there, pal...
NOBAMA 2012!
Example, Kraft Mac n Cheese was 4 for $1. Kraft wants Romney to win, so they donate 1 billion to his campaign. Kraft Mac n Cheese is now 2 for $1. Now I'm subsidizing Corporations donations through my survival of eating Mac n Cheese. Is this how you want YOUR Democracy to work? So I need to starve to death, so that no Corporate interests will use my money to influence elections. Again, this was an example, I do not know Krafts stance on politics and the smart ones usually stay out of it. But the magic question is should food producers be in the business of giving out donations to canidates for influenece? And by proving my point about how they can change prices to offset the corporate donations and basically put it on the backs of the working class. Thank You, American Taliban Supreme Court Jesterices.
The Occupy mob returns.
Fresh from hibernation, obviously healed from the battering their egos took when the American people realized how insignificant they really are. Now they come back for more.
Can anyone tell me what their platform is? What is their goal?
Their Occupy "site" just has a "Declaration of the Occupation of New York City". It’s a litany of 23 complaints. No solutions. No ideas. No direction. Hyperbole is simple, policy is difficult. We have seen this exposed for almost 4 years under the Barrack Hussein administration.
These OWS protests are nothing more than an extension of the ideology permeating their inner circle that dates back to the 60's and 70's during the era of disestablishmentarianism. The counter revolution didn't work then and it won't work now. Not in the direction the Occupy cabal is trying to take it.
They protest the banks and corporatism, yet they all sit hunched over their laptops, iPods and text merrily on their Raspberry phones. This is the convoluted premise of the Leftists and the miscreants of the OWS. They demonize the corporations and banks and then in the same breath demand that they support all their failed ideologies of entitlements and social/economic justice.
They have all the worlds problems figured out but they have no ideas or solutions to fix them. This is not uncommon as they have been infiltrated by the Liberal/Progressive dysfunction of Barrack Hussein and the
unionsgoonions. Their only solution is the "Robin Hood Syndrome" so pervasive through the Liberal elite. Take from the rich and give to the poor, via the government of course, because YOU don't know how to use your hard earned dollars the "fair" way. Only the monolithic bureaucracy known as government can be truly fair. The Ivy League elitists have read many books. Many of them have even WRITTEN a book or two. Obviously in the unwashed masses mind this makes them an authority. Barrack Husseins only real accomplishments before being elected president were writing a couple books, ABOUT HIMSELF! This is obviously all it takes to become leader of the free world. I suppose that hard-earned Nobel Peace Prize must have added to his credentials. Especially as we see the Middle East melting down in chaos and violence.
As this disjointed OWS "movement” struggles to be relevant the average American struggles to make ends meet. Of course the administration and the Occupiers demonize the likes of Mitt Romney for his outsourcing but they embrace Jeff Immelt, CEO of GE, as they have sent 75,000 jobs overseas since 2000. I seriously doubt Romney can compete against those numbers. If you think he can perhaps you need to look at Apple who has a total overseas presence, including contractors, of over 700,000 jobs.
The problems we face are multifactorial. The solutions should have been shaped in 2009. Unfair Free Trade agreements need to be totally reformed. Our criminal progressive tax system is outdated for the 21st century and needs to be eliminated and replaced with a simple Flat Tax or Fair Tax that will allow for true fairness and not allow our government its incessant manipulation of it. Job stagnating regulations need to be reviewed, reformed and in many cases eliminated. We don't need more regulations we need better regulations, and when they are violated we need real enforcement and harsher penalties. Bailing out criminal banks, disorganized companies and malinvested GSE's is not a solution, it's a reward for incompetence. Unions need to become industry supportive rather than divisive. Currency by our competitors must be engaged not ignored. Education needs to be totally reformed and privatized. Finally a true "all-the-above" energy policy must be finally created and implemented.
Occupy will go through its typical violence and vandalism today in the hopes that they can revive their short celebrity of last year. In the meantime none of the real issues will be addressed. The media will give them their 15 minutes of fame and they will wither away once again. It's a shame they don’t understand why no one in their right mind takes them seriously. They could be constructive, instead they will just destroy themselves.
ROMNEY/RYAN 2012 for real Americans
That is a lot of angry gibberish, and not one sollution (because Romney/Ryan is not the sollution), JimSpence. Thanks for wasting my time.
Clwyd,
As an accountant I would love to audit you're brother in laws tax return where he only paid 3% in taxes. Even with all loopholes there are in the current tax code that is highly unbelievable with the information that you gave about his income.
For people arguing about the deficit and how to fix it, firstly its not going to be changed with simply spending less and taxing more. It certainly won't be fixed by cutting taxes either. It is much more complex than that, the first step to stop the hemorrhaging that has been happening for the last 14 years or so would be to cut unnecessary spending. This country gives away a lot of money in foreign aid which I do agree is important but this country has given over $161 billion dollars in just foreign grants from 2007 to 2010 (taken from the United states department of commerce site). About 25% of those figures come from grants to countries in the middle east and north east and it obviously is not helping our image there. This is just my opinion and the first step in what I believe will balance our budget. Another big driver is keeping corporation's productions within our country to drive up our GDP but thats a whole new issue.
@Sarah-3043284
Where did I say anything about spending cuts? Unless of course you are using "politician speak" when you refer to "cuts". The reality is that all we need to do is "cut" the rate of growth. If we froze spending today at it's current level we would balance the budget in 5 years, restrict it to a 2% growth and the budget will be balanced in 10. Only after we balance the budget can we even pretend to start talking about the debt. Ryan's former plan, which the dems called draconian, didn't balance the budget until 2040 and according to the CBO Obamas plan will balance the budget NEVER. Tell me how we're going to address the debt by electing politicians who refuse to stop spending more than they bring in?
And btw when you say "tax the money" I hope you mean that everyone should pitch in something. Until everyone has some skin in the game there will never be incentive to keep our politicians from wasting so much of it.
@Why?-3122622
Gee, what a well thought out and detailed critique of my comments. I'll just assume you didn't go into detail because you have no clue what you're talking about and can only parrot what you're told to say and believe.
ARE YOU SERIOUS!!! There really are people out here that still support Obama? Really!!! I'm mean the past 3 1/2 haven't been bad enough, then what we had last week and still continuing. The writing is on the wall and anyone who can not read it is either blind, naive or just plain stupid. This has been THE WORST and most corrupt and inefficient Presidency this country has ever had to endure. And people still support this!!! Some people are just stuck on stupid.
Well there ya go; another lost puppy, just like 99.9% of the 99%'er's who believe in Barry Soetoro, aka Obama.
Hey Champagnesabre, you really need to do just a teensy weensy bit y bit more research on the subject of Mr. Jon Stevens Corzine. You were on the right track, but your Avatar suggest you havn't got much of a clue as to what follows the name you mentioned.
Besides being a hard-nosed in-bred Democrat, and former big-wig executive of Chicago's very own Continental-Illinois Bank (the state the assclown you champion with you Avatar bought his Senate seat), Corzine also served as New Jersey's 54th Govenor (Democrat Govenor, that is),... you remember New Jersey don't yea? The long term liberal controlled state that's now broke, and can't even afford to pay the countless pensions for it's over-paid public employees. Say's alot about public UNION's and what Democrats and Liberals do best. Spend, spend, spend. Way to milk the poor New Jersey tax payers!!
The Democrat's dream, and Liberal's orgasm.... being able to spend their way into prosperity. Doesn't that just make perfect sense. And ole Barry Soetoro is living proof that it works, just look at him, he's never had a job, never owned a business, never put his Harvard Degree to good use, never written a payroll, yet he's rich and worth millions... how does he do it. Must be the luxury of being able to spend other peoples money, because we all sure as hell know he didn't earn it the good ole fashion way.
Any hoooo, If you're from New Jersey, you can thank your lucky stars for Corzine's having been beaten by Govenor Chris Christie (Republican). That poor bastard is having to make all the tough decisions now, and having to clean up the mess Corzine and the liberals before him left. Granted it's not as big a mess as the Al Gore supporter's left for G.W. Bush at the White House, but financially, it is a bigger mess.
And if I may offer a couple of tid-bits of free advice, please look into the name of the president that bailed out Wall Street's biggest baddest bankers with America's tax dollars, and wasn't even smart enough to issue that money w/o preventing (or did he do that intentionally?), the big-wig exec's like Corzine, from knitting themselves golden parachutes. The same president that bailed out Detroit's (another disaster created by Liberal Policies) UAW locals with America's tax dollars (both GM and Chrystler failing to pay back $10's of Billions), and the same president that gave away billions on now Bankrupt Green Job's,... was that for campaign pay-off's or Corp. Cronyism.... I"m still not sure.... if there's a difference that is.
Also based on your avatar, I'll be a shinny penny that you went all-in for Barry Soetoro back in Nov. 2008, either because you're an in-bred Democrat, a Liberal or to prove your not a racist. You might have even been dumb enough to believe that Bush was responsible for the Fanny Mae - Freddy Mac meltdown and $3.00/gal gasoline.....
Well, time to wake up and smell the shyt you liberals and in-bred democrats have been shoveling, because it's now 2012, America's got $16,000,000,000,000 dollars more in debt (and you that Iraq and Afganistan were expensive, shame on you), our nation's debt ceiling was blown in less than 2 yrs. (thank you Barry, Harry and Nancy), and Barry is still wanting to increase the debt limit, while Barnanke is printing more money (ala any ole dilapidated African Banana Republic). And the broken promises, WOW!!!, did you ever imagine you could have been decieved this bad.... my, my, my.... it's time to really move forward, and not the kind your avatar suggest.
Romney ain't much, not in my humble opinion, but he's easily superior to what we've had. Besides, at least he's a true businessman, and not just another fk'ing lawyer... particularly, another fk'ing lawyer that's never had a job and never put his exceptionally high-dollar degree to work.
Post of the week there Duphas, and it's only Monday. That will be hard to top at slamming liberalism, the Democrats, and the failures of Obama (all interrelated of course).
But I just want to know one thing: why these OWS people look like troglodytes that stepped out of a cave (and I'll bet they smell like one too).
pj-965429
Nothing angry about it pj's. Just the facts. Here's one solution. Eliminate the 2,000 page disaster, NAFTA. This has over 900 pages of tariffs, which your boy-toy, Billy Bob Clinton, dumped on our economy that has caused millions of jobs to leave our shores. Then get rid of the other mess Bill "Blue Dress" Clinton agreed to, the WTO. Another bureaucrats wet-dream come true. This one only has 29,000 pages of controls and virtually nothing about fair trade. Why does Clinton hate our economy so much pj's?
We can replace it with what our Framer's envisioned as true "free-trade" in the Constitution. You know, that document you limp-wristed Libbies love to trample all over.
No tax or duty shall be laid on articles exported from any state. No preference shall be given by any regulation of commerce or revenue to the ports of one State over those of another: nor shall vessels bound to, or from, one State, be obliged to enter, clear, or pay duties in another.
THIS is free trade.
OK, your turn.
My pleasure. At least you didn't have to waste your time alone, like you Libbies usually do.
ROMNEY/RYAN 2012 for real Americans
@ Trust - how about some facts to back up your Kraft comment? Let alone, where do they sell Kraft Macaroni for 4 for $1, let alone 2 for $1?!? Not that I buy this item, but it has been much more than that in my area of the country for a LONG, LONG, time!
Oh and while you are out there looking, try looking up how much the Unions have been shelling out to various Democratic candidates and superpacs? (Oh wait, I think they have a superpac of their very own!)
Sheesh!
Man I hate the poor they just need to shut up and WORK. It is not like this is a free country. The poor are weak. Survile of the fittest. I am tired of the pisces of crap causeing trouble.
Throw them and their kids in a gas Camber that will sovle the problem. I am tried of my tax money paying for their food.
IF YOU DO NOT RESPECT OUR CORPERATE Companys move to RUSSIA.
DEATH TO THE POOR
Time to quit calling liberals liberal. They aren't. The accurate term for those 'liberals' is leftists, communists and Fabian socialists. That is why they support Obama, they WANT a totalitarian state that controls them. It took me awhile to process this fact, I had a hard time believing that people could be so stupid but them's the facts. They are leftists, they are communists and they need to be told what to do, how to think and they also want to have their cradle to grave welfare state. This is the Obama supporter and that is why they support him regardless of his ineptitude, big government stance and destruction of free enterprise along with his supporting the Caliphate that is now controlling much of the middle east and Africa.
Jason, I totally agree with you. It shocks me, truly shocks me, that after the hot mess Barry has made of this country anyone with half a brain cell would still vote for him. He is nothing more than a shameless, self-promoting empty suit. He stands for nothing.
I wasn't a big George W. fan either but at least he did what he said he was going to, whether you liked it or not. HE LED. He didn't care if you liked him or not. He did what he thought was best for the country.
And I did NOT vote for Barry in 2008 and will be voting for Romney/Ryan this time around. Some people ARE stuck on stupid and I fear the Obamabots will turn out in droves to vote back in their master on election day. SHUDDER TO THINK OF 4 MORE YEARS OF THIS LOSER!!!!!
Wow, you'd think that after a year these dillweeds would have come up with a message to inspire their movement. I've had movements more inspired than these folks. As David Byrne sang; 'Same as it ever was'.
Damn Backcountry; you better sit down - you took the words right out of my head on post 1.26.
Laws made to protect corporate criminals are what OWS should be all about - not about demands.
Elliot; during the Joe McCarthy days - all I'd have to do is tell old Joe that I think you are a commie - and that would be the end of your life as you know it...who needs evidence.
Since it has been shown by so many on these forums that Obama is either Jesus Christ himself reincarnated or else bears the mark of the beast and Romney is the evil rich laughing at the little people and has designs on possessing all wealth and crushing the little people I can only say that whichever party you vote for,
VOTE EARLY AND VOTE OFTEN.
That's what democrats do best. Voter ID? Can't have that, need those dead people and illegals to get the Obama vote out.
TheEndofAnError banned, multiple of Nobozospeak, also banned.
The criminals on Wall Street will never be held accountable. They have purchased the government. These protests are way too late too be effective, this sort of action should have happened decades ago. The only way to change things at this late stage of the game is open revolution and the people aren't ready yet... wait 'til food prices spike in a couple months, then maybe we'll actually see the American people take their country back.
After we take down the banksters we're coming for the propaganda networks... you're near the top of the list, NBC.
Anonymous
You went a little bit off the deep end with " Open Revolution ".
There are things we can do, That are STILL guaranteed to us under the Constitution . This way may take longer but is the better way to go. Open revolution only throws the baby out with the bath water. Just look at the middle east today. That mess proves my point.
What we can do is vote for a third party, one that isn't beholden to a fanatical base or whose politicians are bought by campaign contributions. Do a little research, find someone who really represents you, and vote for him.
If either Obama or Romney make it into the White House, nothing will change except the cosmetics.
"Open revolution only throws the baby out with the bath water."
this called for an abortion joke, but I couldn't think of one
LOL...who is this we...You certainly do not speak for or represent the 99% of this country, Highly unlikely you even represent 1-2%, And while I will agree that NBC is a propoganda network and it may be immoral it certainly is not criminal, But what is criminal is destruction of property, @!$%#ting on ploice cars, Raping women, Moving into peoples homes, Blocking hard working people from getting to their jobs, Your movement was doomed by your choice to use anarchist methods.
You are nothing but a small group of criminals claiming to have a cause.
The two most effective things that Occupy could do are: 1) promote a constitutional amendment that will overturn Citizens United (MoveToAmend.org has a great one page sample amendment), and 2) enact public financing of federal elections whereby small campaign contributions of individuals are matched and multiplied by some factor, say 5 to 1) with government funds, with no other funding allowed.
This is how to wrest control from the 1% and return it to the 99%, because politicians will then be reliant on individuals for their campaign funds rather than the ultra rich and their lobbyists.
@bob1/28
Bob, he didn't "go off" the deep end. That is clearly where he resides all of the time.
@bobcb
A- perhaps you've failed to notice but our country is broke, we don't need to be giving money to rich people so they can be elected.
B-Since when does the media represent the "99%"??? Are you @!$%#ing joking??? All Citizens United did was level the playing field. When you've got a media that is basically in the tank for one party you will never have fair representation. People should be free to spend their money how they choose. If the friggin sheep in this country are so stupid that they'll believe the BS put out by the PACs on both sides it is their own fault not the people paying for the ads.
There is no way that you believe what you wrote. No third-party candidate has any chance of winning even one states, much less 270 electoral votes. And if a third party miraculously bleeds off enough support to prevent any candidate from getting 270 votes, then the President will be selected by the House of Representatives and the Vice President will be selected by the US Senate, and none of the third parties are even nominating enough congressional candidates to register in either of those votes.
The third-party candidate screwed up AGAIN, failing to establish a base in the states, in state legislatures, state houses, the House of Representatives and the US Senate - BEFORE trying to run for the White House. How stupid can they be to pursue national office backwards like that? I'm being a bit facitious: They're not stupid... they know that they have no chance of getting elected. They're just seeking unjust power - isn't that what Occupy protests again?
The reality is that there is a difference between Obama and Romney. Neither will bow down before you and capitulate to your edicts - no. But there is a difference between the two, and one of the two will make fewer changes that favor banks and rich people than the other. If you were to consider your role as a voter responsibly, you would realize which one favors the rich less than the other and vote for him.
Dear OWS,
The banks paid back ALL of their money that was given to them, plus interest.
General Motors still owes us 42 billion.
AIG still owes us 21 billion.
Don't let facts get in the way.
So ya'll bitching about OWS think there is nothing wrong with the system??
JCB-1236504...
AIG is a bank
The criminals on Wall Street are being dealt with--they have already arrested over 100 of the azzes today!
Why Anonymous? If you are so bold, then publish your name? The criminals on Wall Street have been arrested and prosecuted. We need Wall Street to drive our economic engine...wake up! You people are simplistic and don't know what you are talking about. We are a capitalist society. If you want a revolution, go to Russia and live under communism. See what your standard of living would be then.
Anonymous,
Anyone who advocates "open revolution" is a psychopath and should be locked up. You are obviously too ignorant to understand what would happen to this country if that happened. You think civil wars in Third World countries are devastating...brother you have NO CLUE what level of death and destruction would be unleashed here.
If you advocate for open revolution, then you are an advocate for death.
Walt UU,
So which one favors the rich less is the only criteria necessary to determine who you vote for?? That is an awfully narrow viewpoint on which to pick the leader of a nation. a RESPONSIBLE voter views candidates' viewpoints on a host of issues and chooses which one they think best represents their personal viewpoints.
Basing your vote on a single issue is irresponsible and irrational in the extreme...and anyone who votes that way is a fool.
He isn't off the deep end, the wall street criminals went off the deep end when they gambled with the worlds economy and lost. Those of you who don't think what they did was criminal need to be deprogrammed because you has a serious case of propaganda poisoning. They have been running a ponzi scheme for a very long time and we have just sat back and let them rob our pensions and bankrupt our nation because as long as professional wrestling was on TV, we had a new Ford Pickup in the driveway and a fridge full of Coors beer, all was right with America, it was only when the sheeple could no longer afford their beer that they began to wake up, unfortunately it was too little too late, the amount of money gambled away far exceeds the GDP or the entire world. We are living on borrowed time and the lean holder is knocking at the door. This economic system of rape and plunder is a total and complete failure and you idiots are just too stupid to see it. Just like an alcoholic or a drug addict, we will have to hit rock bottom before the addicts of trickle down are willing and able to admit that it doesnt work.

Funny how we keep hearing that the President "saved" the auto industry...as Mr. Obama says in every speech...yet the money that is owed back to us is held in half-price stock in General Motors while Ford doesn't owe us a dime of anything because they didn't take a dime of our money. Nor is the fact mentioned that our government is about the largest customer General Motors now has and is purchasing GM automobiles at a record pace so the administration can keep saying "sales are up". Yeah there up...after we bought about a third of the company and now as we provide government agencies with our tax dollars so they can announce that "sales are up".
JCB, their was far more money given to the banks by the Fed that was unknown even to Congress. The true cost of TARP has yet to be determined, as banks still get to borrow at 0% ...all courtesy of the taxpayer pocket.
Why do you think the Dow is in excess of 13K while the economy is still pretty much in the toilet?

If you hold to Occupy's stated ideals, yup, definitely.
Occupy's stated ideals are awfully narrow, then.
My personal financial interests would likely best be served by Romney, but I'm voting for Obama. There absolutely are far more important things in life than money, but that seems to be all Occupy cares about - ECONOMIC equality, ECONOMIC fairness, PROPERTY, DEBT, COST of health care, BANKS, etc. While Obama is going to be the better choice for all those things for most people, he won't be for me personally, but I'm voting for him because (1) it is a more moral approach even with regard to economic matters solely, despite the fact that it doesn't benefit me personally; and (2) overall Obama's positions beyond economics (education, energy, international relations and national security, equal opportunity, reproductive choice, marriage equality) are more moral and better for America.

I truly disagree with your perspective at this time. I believe Occupy Wall Street Protesters have the most important job at this time!! They are exposing all of the criminals with badges (police, F.B.I., C.I.A.) along with their wicked evil ways; by showing them using oppressive legislation to oppress "we the people;" under the authority of the our elected public servants, who are now "we the people" domestic enemies!! Welcome Back Occupy Wall Street Protesters!! Just my thoughts!!
I guess the families came back from vacation so they are back at it...
Psssst. OWC protesters are in the WRONG place.
Maybe they should go to where the REAL problems lies....the Federal Reserve, the Congressional Halls, and the White House.
These are the places the REAL CROOKS reside. Mr. Obama was asked during the 2008 campaign why he wanted to become President. Answer: Washington is where the BIG MONEY is at.
I can see from the above posts folks have reverted to Class Warfare again. Great job !!!!

midwesterner-742861 You know the history of America is; if anything is going to change for the better in America and the World...............somebody has to be arrested and stand before the judicial system and sometimes die. Martin Luther King Jr. and a lot of citizens were arrested and died for their freedom to express their disappointment in oppressive legislation!! "We the people"are going to live for something or "we the people" will die for nothing!! I say Good Job O.W.S.P. for taking the hit for the rest of us; who could not make it to the streets!! Please continue to show the world how evil and wicked American criminals with badges; are the enemies of freedom in the United States of America!! Just my thoughts!!
In the late 1970's, in an effort to battle economic "stagflation"(high inflation, no growth, high unemployment), primarily caused by the disruption in the supply of a fundamental, finite, natural resource; oil, policymakers turned to the theories of "monetarism" and later "supply side economics." The first thing policymakers needed to do for the theory to work, was to change some of the regulatory barriers erected in the wake of the Great Depression, so virtually all financial institutions would route money through the Federal Reserve system. This way, when Fed chairman Paul Volcker raised interest rates, the flood of capital sent oversees would return, seeking secure, but highly profitable investment. Though this strategy worked to curb inflation and employment naturally increased on its own, we were now heading down a road that ultimately would corrupt financial institutions and intersect with the forces of globalization, to undermine our once uniquely level playing field of opportunity. Middle and working class people, soon found that their labor was far less valuable to so-called entrepreneurs, than was capital from investors. For a number of years, the huge increase in the availability and amount of personally secured lines of credit(credit cards), allowed people to continue spending as if they were middle class. Even though their income had stagnated, family wage manufacturing jobs(which had built the middle class) had been out sourced and downsized and most households needed two incomes to maintain that status, people didn't start really feeling the heat, until those same financial institutions, started engaging in highly irresponsible speculation. When average people finally started to realize their predicament, the purveyors of supply side hogwash in the media, had been skillfully blaming everyone, but those who had actually created the greatest single generation one way transfer of wealth in history(from Main st to Wall St). Those who have plundered the middle and working classes and the corporate media shills they own, portray what they want to keep widening the division among those harmed by the aforementioned scenario. Tea Partiers who became that initially because they were irate about "corporate welfare" in the form of TARP, lap up and deeply believe in some of the wackiest economic propaganda ever created. OWS often seems just as clueless by sounding like a scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The key is to develop a political and economic coalition of the best, most cogent ideas, to defeat those who wish to finish the job of turning the U.S. into a plutocracy, where those harmed, bicker among themselves, while the perpetrators simply smile and continue to decimate our uniquely level playing field of opportunity, the "American Dream", of stability, optimism and upward socioeconomic mobility for those so inclined.
WOMAN: I didn't know we had a king. I thought we were an autonomous collective. DENNIS: You're fooling yourself. We're living in a dictatorship. A self-perpetuating autocracy in which the working classes-- WOMAN: Oh there you go, bringing class into it again. DENNIS: That's what it's all about if only people would-- ARTHUR: Please, please good people. I am in haste. Who lives in that castle? WOMAN: No one live there. ARTHUR: Then who is your lord? WOMAN: We don't have a lord. ARTHUR: What? DENNIS: I told you. We're an anarcho-syndicalist commune. We take it in turns to act as a sort of executive officer for the week. ARTHUR: Yes. DENNIS: But all the decision of that officer have to be ratified at a special biweekly meeting. ARTHUR: Yes, I see. DENNIS: By a simple majority in the case of purely internal affairs,-- ARTHUR: Be quiet! DENNIS: --but by a two-thirds majority in the case of more-- ARTHUR: Be quiet! I order you to be quiet! WOMAN: Order, eh -- who does he think he is? ARTHUR: I am your king! WOMAN: Well, I didn't vote for you.Perhaps the OWS interests would be better served by protesting at the real heart of the problem...you know, where American Capitalism is really focused on keeping the little man down...say Cairo, Bengazhi, or Kabul?

OWS is taking over this vine, collapsing comments for say the truth about them.
This is not a movement. It has no leadership, no common goals, etc. It's just a bunch of people whining about pet peeves. That's a shame too. It could have been used to kick special interests out of D.C.. There is much infighting in Occupy Wall Street- clashing egos and struggle for power. The individuals' self-centered attitude in Occupy Wall Street rivals that of Wall Street. Good Luck ?
Close the Fed: Don't forget the Justice Dept. let Goldman Sachs walk for their part in causing the economic meltdown. Selling financial instruments to customers then, themselves, betting against these instruments they sold.
Well said, Salvia58! OWS has never been about solutions to our nation's problems.....they're just one of our nation's problems---and a whiny one, at that! The original OWS voicing their legitimate concerns, dropped out of the movement almost immediately because of the swill that oozed out of the gutters and ruined their original intent. The only thing left now are social debris that have nothing better to do...
If the 99% want change, they must start at the voting booth. Obama is the least of two evils. Vote for him since there is no other choice, then start finding the one we need for 2016. Also, don't forget about the "JUST SAY NO" Republican congressmen. We need to get rid of them and give Obama a crew that he can work with. He may surprise you and do good things for the people if he is given a chance. If in doubt, vote Democrat. The Republicans put their own agenda ahead of the good of the country. Now we can fire them for it. We can show them what solidarity looks like.
Redvirginia, don't worry....most of us can't help it! We still open up your comments and read what the Left didn't want us to see. Just let the children play! *wink*
Exactly Salvia. There's no leadership. No set demands. One group wants "Free" Healthcare, another wants "Free" college tuition. I read something over the weekend of how one group was asking for elimination of debt for EVERYONE, credit cards, student loans, mortgages, etc. It's just crazy.
I'm all for freedom to protest. That's a part of our bill of rights. But I am AGAINST people disrupting others going through their normal workday, blocking traffic or sidewalks so the average worker can't go about their own business. Also when they destroy public or private property they destroy the effectiveness of their protest and become nothing more than vandals.

agreeeeeeeeeed
send em over to protest Western views there
Oh good, the stupid fvcking OWS crowd again. I thought they were all in their parents basements watching soap operas these days.
Maybe these clowns should try occupying some jobs. Oh, that right. There aren't any. Back to the raping.
I like how comments telling about OWS people being arrested and beaten are being collapsed, comments explaining that Democracy Now is actually covering the protests instead of covering it up are being collapsed by the people in charge of this community. They, the right wing war profiteering monetary system monopolizing ZioNazis who constantly use Freudian projection, censorship (collapsing comments), lies and hateful comments to make their greedy, warmongering points are all over this News Vine blog space. There are demolicans and republicrats that bow to international banksters and war profiteers all over this Vine. Liberal is derived from liberty, the preamble to the US constitution calls for a more perfect union, the federal Reserve is an unconstitutional bankster cabal. Wall Street funded Hitler and Jewish run Swiss banks financed Hitler all though world war II. Look up and watch the movie, "Banking With Hitler" before you call me or anyone but a monetary system monopolizing war profiteering ZioNazi anti-Semitic. Shame on all you right wing ZioNazi supporting spunk slime. Occupy Wall Street! Shut down the Pentagon, Shut down the Federal Reserve! Re-invalidate the US constitution and throw the monetary monopolizing war profiteering infinitely greedy wasted sperm in jail where they belong.
The first amendment applies to ows as well as the anti-muslim film.
OWS protestors should sit down and reflect on where their parents got the money to send them to school, or to allow them free room and board. I guess relatives and caretakers don't count. Bunch of losers. Oh well - I guess it beats working for a living for these clowns.
Maybe their protest is having some effect. I notice the stock quotes are not doing very well today. Everything is in the red so far, the DOW, the NASDAQ and the S&P.
And you didn't think that the fact that last Friday the market hit a high for the year might be why people are engaging in profit-taking today?
Take it and run before it's too late!
If they really want to protest, why aren't they protesting the Obama administration's reckless spending and middle class killing policies. In just a little over 3 ½ years he has added well over 4 trillion dollars to our national debt creating the largest entitlement programs in history as well as a runaway immigration policy that places a tremendous economic burden on working Americans.
Then, to make matters even worse Bernanke is forced to monetize Obama's debt by creating money out of thin air! The QE printing press decreases the value of the dollar and raises the price of everything we buy!
Under Bush, Gasoline prices declined to $1.87 per gallon in November as the dollar strengthened. Obama's policies have crushed the dollar with gas more than doubling in the last 3 ½ years. Not only has Obama crushed the value of the dollar, he has attempted to destroy the coal market and utterly failed to provide any incentive for domestic oil exploration. He has also placed the country at the mercy of the middle east by killing the Keystone XL pipeline.
Everything you buy is going through the roof as Obama policies literally wipe out the middle class at an alarming rate! Who in there right economic mind believes this county can afford 4 more years of Obama?
OWS needs to grow up and realize that the 1% they rant about really could care less about their demands and the time they are wasting. So far there has been nothing but speculation about any illegal activities involved in the crash. Nothing has been proved, no one person or group officially blamed. There may have been individuals charged with financial crimes during the crash but no evidence has come to show that they acted as part of a conspiracy or concerted effort. It is the purpose of any business to generate profits for its' investors and the job of any CEO to try and make the largest profits possible. As long as they work within the law to generate those profits then they have done nothing wrong. We can whine and cry all we want about the 1% that are seemingly unaffected by the slow economy while the rest of us are scraping by, but that doesn't make them criminals, it doesn't make them immoral, and it certainly doesn't make them to blame. The tendency today is to blame someone else for problems we ourselves create and believing that it was done to us not by us. This attitude and thinking is wrong! It is us who elect the politicians who lead, it is us who invest our money, run up debt, and cannot accept that there is a risk. So before we begin condemning anyone else, we should first look at our behavior and circumstances before during and after the crash. There is nothing wrong with wanting a change, but be sure it is the proper change that needs to be made! No one owes you anything accept yourself. Your parents bring you into the world naked and everything after that is up to you!
MNSlim,
You're another one who forgot to take their meds this morning aren't you?
Come back when you can actually make a coherent and reasonable comment, instead of one filled with nothing but hatred, name calling and emotionally driven bs huh?
Better yet, take your meds and go back to bed or check into a psych ward because you obviously need one or the other. Good grief.
Mickey, that could well be because of the whole Muslim world attacking the embassies....that always makes investors a little un-easy........the OWS have no effect....ON ANYTHING! lol
WE ARE ANONYMOUS! Let the protest begin..

some anti-american jack-strap told me that the since the rich have more invested, they should be allowed a greater voice.
true brown-nosing at its finest
If these "Occupy" people actually had jobs then they wouldn't have time to stand around and waste time waiting to be arrested. But hard to get a job when Obama is killing this economy and such high unemployment with over 8% for 43 straight months and stagnant economic growth.
So, how is that whole "Hopey Changey" thing working out for you?
Silly Communists.
This is proof positive that our justice system is broken. When people protest Wall Street for stealing billions of dollars from the American people they’re arrested. Why is it that not one Wall Street banker is in handcuffs or for that matter in PRISON?
When I read some of the right wing posts today I have to wonder are people really that ignorant or are they just in love with the idea of an America controlled by soleless, greedy corporations.
The so-called '99%rs', whose primary legacy is defecating in parks, trashing the streets, drug use and general hooliganism, are probably more representative of the irresponsible 1% that thinks they are 'entitled' to free government services - at taxpayer expense.
Take a shower and get a haircut - then maybe someone will want to hire them.
Ironically, their biggest complaint is a lack of jobs - under a Democratic President over the last 3.5 years - but who do they blame? Businesses, who are just reacting to the anti-business policies of Obama and his Democrats in Congress. No business is going to hire more workers unless they have more demand for their products and services, and all Obama can do is pile on more costly regulations and demonize them.
Some people just never learned to 'connect the dots' in Kindergarten.
Janine--
What do you mean they want free health care? How exactly do you understand this? Do you want any healthcare reform? Do you care about pre-existing conditions, anything ranging from asthma to kidney stones, that anyone could get at any time and could cause them to lose their house/savings over, without the Affordable Care Act, if they lose their job?
To those saying OWS lacks in jobs,
From the Wall Street Journal:
“The vast majority of demonstrators are actually employed, and the proportion of protesters unemployed (15%) is within single digits of the national unemployment rate (9.1%).”
Another source shows similar findings (Héctor R. Cordero-Guzmán Ph.D, sociologist of the City University of New York):
"50.4% were employed full-time and an additional 20.4% were employed part-time."
Many supporters of OWS have jobs, but would like to see reform in many areas.
Watching the NYPD in action pretty much says it all. I guess democracy was simply over rated anyway, who needs it? Long live the republic.
That is the tendency of today for all of us. Blame the other side! Blame anyone; it doesn't matter who - just point that finger; never mind the three pointing back at you.
Wake up! We, the people, are the government! Or at least e are supposed to be. Have you ever thought about what would happen if we all stood together? Don't you realize just how powerful we would be? Yes, we the people created the problems that we have today. We created it by allowing ourselves to be divided. Remember "United We Stand; Divide we fall." So let's take the responsibility on for ourselves. Get registered to vote, if we haven't already done so and vote. It is not only our right to vote; it is our responsibility to do so.
It is also our responsibility to help one another; not just individually, but commonly. This is in the Golden Rule: "Love thy neighbor as you would thyself." We also must realize that our government functions from taxes. Without taxes, the government would be bankrupt. We have a big deficit, then we cut spending and raise taxes. We are all in this together; no man is an island. No man got anywhere without the help of others. Together, we can shape the future. Divided, others will shape the future.

The Tea Party wisely clung to the Republicans. OWS unwisely cling to nothing. There was much hope for them but the inability to even support the candidates and/or President who agrees with them on much of their stand makes it a little harder to relate to them this round. So I guess I'll just say Happy Birthday.
OWS is alive and well all over this country.
Huskergal,
Sorry but I disagree with you on a couple of your points.
It is also our responsibility to help one another; not just individually, but commonly
Really? Says who? Sorry, but I have no responsibility for anyone that I don't choose to accept responsibility for. No one has the right to demand that I accept responsibility for anyone. Not you, not the government and certainly not some amorphous entity known as "society".
I will decide who I am responsible for and I will decide what I am responsible for.
We have a big deficit, then we cut spending and raise taxes
Tell me, exactly why should the American taxpayer have to have more money taken away from them because our government is incompetent and can't control its spending? They have proven time and time again that they are irresponsible and have no concept of fiscal responsibility. This goes for both parties. They are both reckless with our money and that won't change.
No man is an island. No one got anywhere without the help of others
That is absurd beyond the most basic level. That's like saying I didn't build a brick wall by myself because somebody sold me the bricks and the mortar. Sorry, but I got where I am by MY work ethic, by MY skills and by MY ability. I didn't get where I am because of someone else's "help".
I have nothing but contempt for anyone who would try and take away a person's individual achievements by saying they had "the help of others". What a bunch of garbage.
Violent acts of protest of this antisocial group only demonstrate that they have not matured in 1 year. Continue defecating in his diapers and cry if any reason. OWS continued showing the same tactic violent used by radical protester groups, demanding attention with the only way they know, causing chaos, damage to private property and attacking the forces of the order.Even so the left and the yellow press aims to compare it with the Tea Party, a group that has demonstrated civility and respect to the authorities during their protest marches.
This past week the National News media took pot-shots at the "inactivity" of the OWS. "Where are they, it has been almost a year." There is no doubt in my mind that the media stirred up the group to once again hit the streets. The power of the camera is awesome.
Look at the people they have arrested for exercising their right to assemble and the right to free speech... you can only do that if it benefits the 1%; if it doesn't then off to jail you go!
What most people do not realize (or ignore) is that no matter which candidate you vote for in November, the same people, the 1%, will still be calling the shots. Look at all the money the government gave to the banks to supposedly help put a stop to all the foreclosures, that money did not make one bit of difference to the little guy, it went to the executives and CEOs.
Look at all the efforts to get rid of unions..... unions do not benefit the 1%, they do not want to have to pay employees a livable wage and benefits and provide them with safe places to work .... all these things cut into their profits and yearly bonuses.
I have NOTHING against companies making a profit, but I do have a problem with them squeezing the workers dry to get it. For many many years car companies made plenty of profits even with unions.... but they can make even more if they ship the work off to non-union shops and third world plants. The problem is making a profit it is uncontrolled greed.
When the farms went belly up (in the 70's) who do you think bought them up at rock bottom prices? Who do you think maximizes their profits by keep animals locked in cages and injecting them with growth hormones? Why do you suppose people have become so obese and children going through puberty so early? The 1% do not care because they can afford organically grown and no hormone added foods.
They also own most of the health care businesses, if they can keep the Obama health care plan going, it will be a win-win for them.... They can profit from our illnesses as well.
If we don't wake up and DEMAND change from our government, and kick the corporations back to their board rooms, we will be just like the people living in China and Russia.....(but instead of everything being government owned it will be the corporations) with the 99% trying to survive on minimum wage jobs, living in corporate owned homes, eating corporate grown foods.
Okay, I am done spouting off....go back to sleep.
The haves and the haves not battle will continue as long as we manipulate the stock markets..
How Does He Do It!!!
Ahh, those that fail to understand their history. The OWS smells of the Labor generated Civil War that allowed Lenin to take control and place the Russia under a one party system.
Socialism is great on paper, but it doesn't factor in the simple fact that people given everything find little ambition to progress. It only works if wealth is a self generated entity... but it's not. People end up with less, government ends up with total control and by the second change of power, you have someone that doesn't respect that power... like Stalin, who killed off more Russian citizens than any wars had ever done, including their own civil war....
Communism is just forced Socialism...
Maybe someone with OWS should really pay attention, look at the detailed strategy of the Tea Party. Back Politicians, but make them sign a promise to uphold the campaign promises... making them more accountable and be willing to boot their sorry cans when they fail to properly represent the voters... even if it means voting for the opposition!
Better to get Politicians back inline, than justify keeping them in power.
These are just a few article clips I took. This is the republicans dream man to finally irradicate human rights in america and put the slaves back to work so they can stop over paying those chinese peeps a couple dollars an hour wages. Don't worry about whether or not Romney can run the nation as he will simply do what he is doing with his campaign staff and let his Bain & Co. staff run it for him.
When you exercise the right to peaceful protest, you don't get arrested. Did they get a permit? I am pretty sure it is not just Federal law, but state and I am sure local law as well. Nobody was arrested for practicing their right to free speech, they were arrested for breaking the law.
As long as they are simply protesting and not disrupting traffic or illegally entering businesses with the intent of disrupting their business, then they can be there, as I am sure plenty of people were doing. The idiots who break the law to get attention and attempt to make a point, only to fail miserably and get laughed at, are the ones who detract from the message they are trying to send.
Thing is, if anyone from this "movement" wants to accomplish something they need to start at the bottom, just like everyone else. Get involved in politics, get elected to your city council, then work your way up from there. Or get a law degree and figure out, using FACTS, what is wrong with the system, and lobby to get it changed. If it is really that important, make it a career. If it is really that popular, you won't have any problem raising money to lobby for it. If it is really that big of a movement, then get a leader or become one..
At least the Tea Party movement has leaders and has put people in positions of power. All the OWS crowd has done is prove that you can slack off and stand around REALLY WELL. Way to go. Until you actually DO something about the things you are mad about, NOTHING will happen. I know very few people who actually work for big corporations.. MOST Americans work for small businesses.. So go get a job working for a working class business owner. Support yourself for a while. Study hard and work hard and you will gain an understanding of what you are actually protesting. THEN come back with your knowledge and see what you can do to make something change.. If you actually had a solution to the problems, someone who knows how to organize or raise funds to lobby might get behind you.
mike...as bain capital chmn he was supposted to make his investors look good and make them money. not be patriotic. the truth hurts huh? business is business. maybe if clinton hadn't passed nafta we'd have places here to invest in.
New Jersey broke?!! Quick! Somebody tell Christ Christy, the REPUBLICAN GOVERNOR OF NEW JERSEY. Huh. How's that Democrat controlled thing working out for you there, Duphas? Remember him, got up at the RNC convention and gave us all a song and dance about ol' Mitt and the Republicans? Remember, Republican led state? Look it up.
The debt ceiling has been raised more than TWENTY-FIVE TIMES between Reagen and Bush. Oh, and while we're talking about Bush here's a little known fact, unemployment went from 4.9 percent in February 2008 to OVER NINE PERCENT by the time Obama took office. It's been slowly lowering since about October of 2009, but while a slow lowering isn't a great thing at least it isn't skyrocketing up like it did under Bush.
Oh, and your buddy Mitt HAS A FREAKING LAW DEGREE!!!! DO YOU NOT EVEN KNOW WHO YOU'RE SUPPORTING BEYOND HE AIN'T A DEMOCRAT?!
I'd go one but seriously that's enough. You've upchucked a lot of words but they carry no truths.
Welcome to your new organization. It's called Occupy Jail Cell.
tylor-1251220
In case you really haven't read up on your man Romney, here is another quote:
This being about his 23% shareholdings in the company that destroyed fetuses, Stericycle, I'd say Romney was investing for his own profit gains and not any other shareholder as he was the only shareholder of this 23%. It simply is just one of many instances that show Romney is a hippocrate to his republican base as well as just another of many corporates who's interests lie in investing in chinese investments at the detriment of the very country he is now trying to gain access via the presidency in order to remove any tax based on foreign investments. Romney is simply about Romney and not about america let alone his own political base that is now supporting him. A very bad choice for the republican party in 2012.
So glad to see Roy Wilson isn't having to go it alone against all the libtards today! Especially good comments today Wizard!
This board is hilarious a best. Have fun everyone. Dig in those heels and divide away lol...
All of the "Too Big To Fail" Banks and Finanancial Services companies need to be broken up into little pieces. They are bigger now than they were in 2008.
This should be a bi-partisan issue. Nobody should wield enough power to bring down our economy, but they do. By defintion this is a threat to our Democracy, which is already on very shaky ground.
The Supreme Court needs to be impeached for aiding and abeiting Corporate Crimes and Election rigging.
for one thing the occupy movement has not moved, they are still in the same place, protesting the same BS and getting arrested the same old way, they have not accomplished a damn thing , i wonder why?
maybe because it was a lost cause to begin with, a complete waste of time, and a really pointless pursuit. but hell yes keep doing it . we will keep ignoring you.
Such losers. What entitlement do you want this week? Roses and dinner to go along with the free birth control? Go get a job or crawl back to your parent's basement.
Same bunch of losers, living in mom's basement, working on thier fancy degrees in social work that along with a couple of bucks will get them a cup of coffee and blaming wall street instead of Obama because there are no jobs. Of course in a lot of their cases unless we turn totally socialist and they get jobs handing out our tax dollars to the gimmie people, there won't be any jobs they are qualified for anyway. Stop whining, do some real school work and sell all the ipod, ipad, laptops and other toys mommy and daddy have been giving you for years, while you sit on your butt whining about saving the world from all the mean corporate types that expect you to have a brain and ambition.
Shaking my head; you sure told them...lmao! That was some whine - about whiners..at a Liberal web site no less - way to confront your demons - did your shrink recommend you post here?
A little yoga, a hot tub, some sex - you should be just fine by....never.
You left out how the GOVERNMENT arrested people and shut down the camps, effectively ending the protests in the process.
You also left out how the government and media embraced the movement. Gave it months and months to be something it wasn't and finally had to concede it was just a bunch of stinky anarchists without any coherent thought. Whereas the Tea Party is a grassroots effective effort with a single vision of fiscal responsibility and the media did the same thing, made them something they are not . Two good examples on how the media gets reality wrong and reality catching up to the spin. The Tea Party very successful and OWS, one year later and everyone is scratching their heads.
ok patches,
what ever you say, but really other than the negative, what positive things did the OWS movement accomplish? if getting arrested and thrown in jail is a positive thing, then you could say so..... but how is that helping.? and if they were trying to raise awareness then they succeeded we are all fully aware that they have accomplished nothing, because they had no credible argument to begin with. such as it is. but i have yet to see a post of yours where you are not attacking someones opinion. i expect more of the same..
This is NBC/NEWS bull$hit! The Occupy Wall Street hasn't DWINDLED as they say, it has SPREAD to the 99% American People who are being ENSLAVED by the corrupt Republican corporate MONARCHY!
23% of our wealth to the 99% American People and 77% of the wealth to their ONE-PERCENTERS is NOT Democracy, it is nothing but CRIMINAL HYPOCRISY because of their UNCONTROLLED CAPITALISTIC GREED!
99% American People, it's very sad that we can no longer trust our NEWS MEDIA because of the spread of corruption by their INFILTRATED "HAND-PICKED" political puppets! It's time for BIG CHANGE! And, that time is NOW, not later, but RIGHT NOW!
99% American People, VOTE & vote 100% STRAIGHT DEMOCRATIC and 100% STRAIGHT DEMOCRATIC and let's rid our selves of their BLATANT CORRUPTION once & FOREVER!! The lives you save WILL be YOURS & your CHILDREN!! Believe it, NOTHING COULD BE TRUER!!
This commentary is brought to you by a LIFELONG DEVOUT REPUBLICAN, that's right REPUBLICAN, who is totally disgusted with their BLATANT CORRUPTION!
No one is being enslaved, as you say. If you have a job, it is because you chose that job, not because someone forced you to take that job.
Also, your stats are incorrect. 1% of the population does not hold 77% of the wealth. While 1% does hold a large portion, it is not what you state.
What you seem to be advocating is that the government dictate what someone receives for income by asking that 99% of America vote straight democrat. Your way of thinking will only lead to the United States becoming a 3rd world nation.
99%.... 1%...... bla, bla, bla. It's the same as the Proletariat vs. the Bourgeoisie.
OWS is the Communist Manifesto, verbatim.
Read it.
democratic policies are identical to republican ones... only TALKING POINTS differ. don't fall for the single-party #republicrat system. follow the money. The same corporations and wealthy individuals finance both parties and both parties push their agenda.
From a review of "The Collapse of Complex Societies" by Joseph Tainter:
All of history’s major 24 civilizations have collapsed and the patterns are strikingly similar, he writes. The difference this time around is that we will unravel as a planet....The elites, in a desperate effort to maintain their own levels of consumption and preserve the system that empowers them, through repression and austerity measures, squeeze the masses harder and harder until the edifice collapses.
OWS may not label it thusly, but they more or less recognize the problem.
HN....are you serious? Have you ever listened to an interveiw with one of these morons? They don't have a clue why they are protesting, just a bunch of jiberish.
Eric, and a lot of old retired Hippies reliving their youth.
People like 'TR' Rose II are so cute. It's nice that their madness is curtailed to the urban centers....LMAO
All this time, and I still don't understand what OWS really wants. What does "enslaved by the corrupt Republican corporate MONARCHY!" actually mean? In a practical sense, what is the terrible effect that these people are looking to end, and how will we know when it has ended?
These kinds of statements are nothing but empty rhetoric. These people feel like something is wrong but they can't put their finger on any specifics. How will they ever know if their efforts are succeeding that way? If the only metric you have is some vague sense of dissatisfaction, you are never going to be happy.
Unfortunately, the Democrats are encouraging it, with Obama calling for "millionaires and billionaires to contribute their fair share" without any defintion of what "fair share" means. It's the kind of statement that makes people go "YEAH!" but it is purely an emotional appeal, no thinking is involved.
TR....you need to quit smoking pot..
Here are the correct stats: During the ten years prior to 2011, 90% of all income gains went to the richest 10% of Americans, with 40% going to the top 1%; these are the very same folks who received the lion's share of the Bush tax cuts.
LMAO @ TR ROSE
If your a life long republican I'm lady Ga Ga *eye roll*
BTW we aren't all Republicans we're conservatives.
WHEN WILL THE DANGEROUS dishonest lap dogs in the media ASK LEGITIMATE QUESTIONS?
Why are you 2 faced CLOWNS protecting giving him a 100% pass? You are a disgrace!
"23% of our wealth to the 99% American People and 77% of the wealth to their ONE-PERCENTERS is NOT Democracy"
Our money? When did someone else’s money become all of ours? And why would democracy have any effect on who earned what money? And why do you think you somehow deserve what someone else has? What gives you the right to take anything from anyone else? Is it ONLY because you have less than them? Is it ONLY because they have more than you? Are you trying to say economic en-equality gives you the right to just take what another person has?
If YOU don't earn it then it is called theft even in a democracy.
Stop trying to cheat your way to a better life. Your greed is as evident as you claim they are. All you want is to take what they have. And you claim the difference is all the right you should have to do so.
"The one percent is dictating to the rest of us how we can live our lives," said Wes Nickerson, 59, from Cambridge, Mass.
Exactly how does that occur Wes?
'TR' Rose II
Our wealth???? Shouldn't that "wealth" belong to the people who create it? Sounds to me like YOU are the greedy one if you expect to get a share of what someone else worked to create.
And PLEASE stop pretending you represent 99% of us because you @!$%#ing DON'T!!!! You and your ilk are just the 1% at the opposite end of the spectrum.
bobcb, when you state "...received the lion's share of the Bush tax cuts", you must mean as a dollar amount, correct? With this, I'll agree, but when you already pay the lion's share of taxes, wouldn't it stand to reason that you will get a larger amount, in dollars, than someone who is paying little in taxes?
What do you say for the number of people who are no longer on the income tax rolls because of the Bush tax cuts? This occurred when you dropped the bottom bracket 5%. Many more people received an "earned income credit" because of the Bush tax cuts. Did you not want to talk about that piece?
Thank you LaVall. Just when did my working 12 hours a day 7 days a week for the past 27 years make my income YOUR income $$$$$$$. Greedy SOB's.
Face it OWS, you're a very tiny minority and represent no one but yourselves. You are the .01%, and even that's being generous.
OMG! TR Rose, you're not my crazy-a$$ ex wife are you?
100 protesters? Why so much attention on this? What are the priorities of the news media today? Reporting or creating the news?
Of course they try to create the news! They have to try to deflect their readers away from the failure of the Obama administration.
I don't know about anyone else, but I am getting tired of seeing people raising their fist and shouting.
It's not the fist raising and shouting that's a bore, it the statement 'We use to stand for something but now we just want attention'. My granddaughter does the same thing when she wants attention, she just screams.
What a bunch of losers!! Not smart enough to do anything else! And to think peeeelosi said God bless the OWSers. OH well, she is nothing but an old hag of a loser herself!
Does anyone think the two cops in the first picture look like brothers. They could be father and son.
Load all of them up and ship 'em to europe!! OWSers...GET THE HELL OUT WHILE YOU CAN!! We WILL get enough and you wont be walking one day!
I work for a law firm in the Wall Street area. The one thing I take away from this after seeing the protestors is that a great number of them should try occupying a bathtub.
The media is a joke. They don't report real news anymore. Everything is reality this and that. The world has gone a direction I would have never imagined 20 years ago. I was taught with hard work and drive you could make your life what you wanted it to be. Everything I have has come from that upbringing. These whining babies at occupy are the worst of our society. All having a sense of entitlement and hating the people have been successful. In interview's of some of these protester: Some are government workers, who in my opinion have no reason to complain about a secure job with secure retirement. More than the rest of us are guaranteed. Some spoiled rich kids with nothing better to do. And a bunch of other losers who haven't made the effort to make the life they have what they want. The American dream comes from hard work and sacrifice. Unfortunately the generation coming up now want everything for free with no personal sacrifice or hard work. A sad commentary of what is coming to this great country.
The media should stop covering this nonsense. At this point it is definitely zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. No boring publicity and they will go back to living off their relatives.
Yeah blame the protesters and tell us all about their "entitlements" while hushing and ignoring anybody that brings up David H. Brooks being "ENTITLED" to 250 million dollars of war profiteering blood money in one year. Don't mention William W. McGuire (CEO of United Health Group) received ENTITLEMENT of $124.8 million in one year, killing people by denying them the healthcare they paid for and deserved. Don't mention the people who are entitled to profit fro a US that simultaneously sells more weapons than and spends more on it's military defense than the rest of the world combined. So anybody that speaks or stands up against the ZioNazis is a loser? Well I sure do not want to be a winner of the Revelations 2:9 winning label posing next to the beast in the Synagogue of Satan. You wasted sperm inhumane spunk holes will get what you deserve, extinction.
The attention given is to divert attention from the fact that President Obama is as much in the hip pocket of business as any republican. It is there to bolster the blame that the president is throwing at the 1% wealthiest in our country, down from 2% because they have finally figured out that households with 250k incomes are really not wealthy at all. It is there to give the ignorant mob (all of us) a target to blame instead of figuring out that we all are to blame for the mess.
MNSlim,
You know, you got a big mouth. Too bad you have nothing in the way of brains to back it up with.
"Wasted sperm inhumane spunk holes"?? Seriously, what are you...12?
And by the way, using the term "ZioNazis" makes you an Anti-Semite. Trying to claim otherwise only makes you a hypocrite.
Get off your parents' computer little boy and get back in class where you belong.
MNSlim
It is not about their entitlements, it's about ignorance. You throw the terms profiteering and blood money around to inflame the argument but fail to recognize that it is the purpose of any business, small, large, or otherwise to make a profit! You speak of insurance benefits they paid for, yet have you read the insurance contracts they signed? You accuse the CEO of united health group of killing by denying benefits, yet you have no clue what people paid for in the first place. I would be willing to bet you have not even read all the way through your healthcare contract. Any Business major at one point has a business law class that introduces them to the phrase "Let the Buyer Beware". OWS and those others that are screaming in the streets have seemed to forgotten that phrase because it is more convenient to blame someone else for taking advantage of you than to admit your own laziness in the market place.
MNSLIM, you forgot the "E" for "MNSLIME". I hate abortion but "people" like you make me want to rethink that stand. YOU are the lier AND loser. Get a life if you have ANY CLUE of what that is! GO AWAY PUNK!!
Hey Gizzard Lacking Wisdom.....You Sure Seem To Be Pretty Abusive For Someone Claiming To Possess Such Wisdom.....

Sorry Grammar Queen Gizzard No More Time For Your Silly Petty Little Meaningless Insults!
ClearVoice 2
The Keystone XL pipeline fuel was to be refined in Texas and sold to foreign markets, not US market.
KILL the worthless poor scumbags that can't get jobs.
gas them.
If I take a job on the premise of being paid for it, I should be paid for it. If I sign a contract and it says that even if I am fired I get paid XXXX dollars, I expect to be paid XXXX dollars. Why is this an entitlement? It is what I negotiated.
A CEO who gets paid for doing a bad job is no different from a politician who gets paid for doing a bad job. The difference is you have a vote for the politician, just as about 180 million other Americans have. If there are more of you who don't like the politician than like them, then the politician is out. Unfortunately that doesn't mean his contract to get paid the rest of his life is out as well. If you want to get rid of a CEO, buy stock in his company and vote. Again, if your opinion is with the majority of stock holders, then the CEO will be out, and just like a politician, they will get paid whatever is owed per their contract. It isn't rocket science.
Sadly, it isn't your money that these CEO's are using, so not only do you not have a say in how they conduct their business, you don't stand to profit or lose from it either. If you don't like it, all you can do is vote with your consumerism.. Stop buying from them. Don't like Starbucks? Don't buy their $6 coffee. Don't like Chick-fil-a? Don't buy their chicken. Don't like Bank of America? Don't open an account there. Don't like paying $4 for a gallon of gas? Then walk. It is REALLY pretty simple. If enough people feel the same way you do, then the problem will solve itself. Thing is, people DON'T feel the way you do, and you need to stop whining and go out and do something about it.
Hey archangel, you seem to have MNSlim pegged, except I have to agree with Wizard on one thing. MNSlim is a child and therefore is on his parents insurance! No policy to read. MUW, I see you here all the time and if ANYONE is a troll, YOU fit the bill!

The Wizard of Wisdom NOT! Study the relationship between Wall Street and Hitler. You will find they invested in Hitler because of fear and hate for the philosophy of a certain Jew named Karl Marx. Having spent 7 months at Occupy full time. here is the Truth. It is mostly kids who have alot of peer pressure to fit in with the so called leaders who are Infiltrators (paid handsomely) who are young, charismatic and Control the Bank Accounts and Social Media accounts e.g. FB, Twitter. These "Leaders", who are pretending to forward the movement, have unlimited time and money, are systematically slowing the movement. American Spring was disbanded for a 1 day "MayDay" and although many occupiers planned other events, the "Leaders" holding the Tools and Funds to promote them, refused and spent Feb to May promoting Mayday (Apparently to keep American Spring from happening, but promoting MayDay to not Blow their Cover). Good job infiltrators stomping out American Spring). These same people have control over the money and have taken most of the Donor's money this year. THIS ISNT MY OPINION, ITS FACTS
Very True cynprice It's the Classic Divide To Conquer Approach...Spent A Little Money And A Lot Of Media To Project A False Image.......And Have A Few Of Your Police Goons Tag Along With The Protesters And Act As Agent Provocateurs!
Austin police infiltrated Occupy Austin...Officers also had role in making possible illegal device used in Houston protest

Wall Street Hired Psycho Masters To Destroy OWS Yet Once Again Occupy Wall Street Is Alive & Well!
@ cynprice-1502826, Thanks for the perspective! I always wondered what the method to the Madness was..... I don't really have a horse in this race, but from my observation, the difference between Tea Party demonstrations and OWS demonstration are as different as night and day. The OWS are not at all respected by American society anymore....
bicfj .....I'd Have To Say This Occupy Member Is 54 Years Old And Our Movement Is At Least 236 Years Old (1776)!
BTW The True Tea Party Is NOT OWNED By The Corporations....They Too Have Been Subverted On The National Level Just Like Parts Of The OWS Movement.
So What? The Struggle Continues And Always Will!
BTW I Am Speaking From Experience When I Say....The Tea Party....And Occupy Wall Street....Have Much More In Common....Than They.... EVER HAD DIFFERENCES!
It Is The Corporations That Claim We Are Different...Which Totally Disregards The Truth!
MUW,
If we leave the "thinking to real people", that will obviously exclude you.
Your comments are nothing but snide commentary, insults towards those you disagree with and a bunch of emotionally driven bs with nothing intelligent to back it up with.
You can't even seem to post a comment that doesn't constantly jump back and forth between bold and standard print, as well as the constant shouting (all caps).
You claim to be 54 years old but you act like you're about 12. Grow up.
Oh The Gizard Lacking Wisdom I Am Mortally Wounded With You Snappy Insults Without Content......NOT!
The Problem With You Trolls Is You Actually Think Your Petty Nonsense Mean Something.
Guess What...It Doesn't!
Some Either Post Content And Links Or Opinions On Your Own Posts......Otherwise You Are Merely Another Troll And The Vines Are Full Of Them!

MUW,
Thanks for proving my point for me.
The fact that you can't even write a coherent sentence only reinforces the fact that your intellect is limited at best. It is apparent that your education is sadly lacking as well.
As for being a troll, well you would know right? Since you're obviously one of the biggest trolls on this particular vine. Multiple posts spouting nothing but hate, insults and verbal abuse towards those you disagree with. Yep, looks like you're a troll from here.
And your own posts mean nothing to anyone other than yourself, so right back at you.
Once again, grow up. Better yet, go back to school and learn proper English. It's obvious that you failed grammar, spelling and proper sentence structure.
Once Again Nothing But Belittling Nonsense.....Even Worse... From A Grammar Queen TROLL!
Hahaha Talk About Lacking Wisdom.... And Having Way Too Much Ego....And Way Too Little Brains!
Psst....I ONLY ABUSE....The Abusers!
MUW,
Hmmmm, looks like you're a liar too.
You've abused and insulted people who weren't abusing anyone. Merely voicing their own opinion. Yet you feel justified to vilify and insult them???
Yeah, you're a liar alright. A liar and a hypocrite both? Bad combination there pal.
Keep attempting to justify your petty hatred, abuse and insulting commentary though. It only makes you look more and more ridiculous.
By the way, calling me a "Queen" only makes you look even more juvenile, if that's even possible. Are you sure you're over 50? You certainly don't act like it. Grow up.
Gizzard Without Wisdom....Do You Even Know What A Grammar Queen Is?
Well First I'd Have To Say Your Are....But Then I'd Also Have To Say That Once Again You Post No Content....Only To Abuse Other Posters About Grammar!

"Occupy is not owned by any corporations like tea party is. Occupy is people."
@bicfj - If you really believe that then you are not who you claim to be or the old adage isn't true that with age comes wisdom. Who in the world do you think runs occupy ?? It is the union leadership and some other liberal groups with deep pockets. The Tea party has their backers but the fact is that they are every bit people as you claim to be. People who are sick of being taxed to death. If you are really for the average person you would wouldn't be a part of that socialist movement called occupy. It is nothing but old hippies and young kids that don't have a clue because they either have no ambition or have been living off of mommy and daddy so long they don't know what it takes to be independent. I am old enough to realize that the way we are headed is going to send us off of the cliff and it isn't only the bankers but the politicians as well. You blame this on the tea party and republicans but you really need to look at the big picture. Check the net wealth of your Democratic politicians and their backers. You mean to tell me that they don't have a hand in all this mess?? If you believe that then I guess the country gets what it deserves.
Please allow me to explain the Economic Rights Movement called OWS (Occupy Wall Street) / Occupy....(Fill in your Neighborhood Occupation).
A...Only one demand.... a Constitutional Amendment Separating Corporation and State.
B...We have No National / Local Leadership so that our leaders cannot be Bought Off like the Tea Party or Assassinated like MLJ or JFK or RFK to end the Civil Rights Movement.
C...We try to be all inclusive hence the 99% slogan. (The 1% are welcome we only ask they contribute if willing)
In conjunction we support the United States Constitutional Rights of Freedom of Speech, Freedom to Assemble and respect all the other Inalienable Rights Granted in that Sacred Document!
Everything else is merely an opinion of some part of the 99% or the other and should only be considered as such! Even some of US haven't quite understood what that means......
We have our share of Bad Manners and Nonsense but much less so than the DNC/GOP Party or these Mega Corporations and at least we are not trying to Economically Enslave ANYONE!
Join US and let "Freedom Ring" once again!
Otherwise it will merely be these endless MSM nonsense stories about corrupted Directors Generals & Politicians stealing even more of our Children's Future!
MUW,
So you use a definition out of an "urban" dictionary? And you think that makes you intelligent and educated?? Hahahah how truly pathetic.
I point out your lousy English and pathetic grammar and spelling skills because they are strong indicators of your lack of intelligence and poor thinking skills. You see, an intelligent person can converse intelligently in writing, which you quite obviously can't.
Waste your time educating? What educating? The only thing you could educate anyone on is poor grammar and how to insult someone else like a juvenile delinquent.
As for having no content, exactly what content have YOU given? All I see in your posts are insults and snide comments. There's nothing in any of them that remotely resembles meaningful content.
Keep trying cupcake.
Sorry Grammar Queen Gizzard No More Time For Your Silly Petty Little Meaningless Insults!
MUW,
Sorry Grammar Queen Gizzard No More Time For Your Silly Petty Little Meaningless Insults!
You keep saying that, but you still haven't gone away! Promises, promises.
"Occupy protesters blast 'criminality' of Wall Street"
Occupy protesters should blast criminality of themselves.
No, that's called sharing the wealth.
Yeah, but in order to do that, the "have-nots" are gonna have to come and take from the "haves" by force, e.g. another Civil War. But don't worry, the "have-nots" are also against guns as well, and so in that they don't believe in owning guns, the war will not take very long.
I'll bet there is not a person on here today who is not fat. People who never get off their asses to do anything and expect others to do it for them. Pathetic....We need campaign reform in this country, badly only you guys are just to dumb to see it. Have you ever just listened to OWS?? Listen for once in your life. When you turn off your mind to new ideas you become just another brain dead republican.
K - 386821
As opposed to being just another brain dead liberal spouting insults towards those they disagree with?
Yeah, keep on playing that stupid game pal. Keep attempting to convince others you are right by using insults and snide commentary.
What a joke.
K-386821 I have read them. They are part of the "Gimmee" generation who think the world owes them a living. They want free healthcare, free college education. I even read one OWS post who wanted ALL debt to be excused. Student loans, mortgages, credit cards, etc.The things the rest of us work and pay for on our own.
If they want to make more money, let them start their own business, and see what it means to actually WORK for something.
K-386821
Hope you didn't bet too much on that "fat" comment! Now run along child!
Ironically, Wall Street built the trust funds all these hippies use to buy their iMacs.
Hippies? What - are you from the 1960s or something? And the iMac hasn't even been a product for YEARS.
You need to update your rants - right now they just make you look uninformed and out of touch.
Oh wait....
That's funny, when I bought my desktop I am typing on now at the Apple store, they told me it was an iMac. The box said iMac, the instructions, etc..If you go to the Apple website, they have iMacs.

@ solexHippies? What - are you from the 1960s or something?
Really!---everyone just calls them azzholes, nowdays.....so get with it! lol
Too bad they can't develop a coherent message. Most Americans are mad about the collapse and the complete lack of accountability. From AIG not being able to honor its obligations CDS, junk Derivatives being sold as AAA, banks acting like gambling junkies to the government trying to impose socialism to open markets, there is and was a lot of bad in Wall St.
If you look at the top 100 American companies you see very strong companies that employ millions of people. Companies that provide the necessary goods and services our nation needs. It's not the companies, it's these Wall St weasels that screwed hard working Americans out of their equity.
Oh Patrick you are going to piss off the brain dead republicans on here! LMAO!!!! Facts & Truth confuse Republicans.
patrick
It is we who screwed ourselves by letting politicians,(both parties) change the laws to allow this to occur! You want accountability, well that starts at the voting booth in terms of government. In the private sector it starts at the cash register. We can hold wall street accountable, but we also have to realize that for it to succeed, we also have to hold ourselves accountable to the same standards. Otherwise it is all smoke and mirrors!!!!
Well said, archangel, but you probably left patrick in the dust by you gift of reason.....I think he wants to refute you so badly, but is still struggling with what you actually said! lol
Exactly Texson, Patrick is going to figure out what archangel said sometime tomorrow!
A Movement without goals lead by morons without ambition.
It's not a movement.....it's a distraction.
How can you say OWS has no goals? "You have more. I want more. Give me!" Gotta agree with you about the ambition part, though.
@denver, what makes you think that's what they're about? Have you bothered listening to what they're saying or are you just taking the interpretation of what someone else says they're saying? A large majority of the OWS crowd will tell you they have no problems whatsoever with people being richer than them. The problem is with the economic curve and all the policies that give increasing advantages for the wealthy to get even wealthier. The issue has never been about who has the most money. It's about the rich using their power to rig the system in their favor.
Well said....they need to go back to work and take a bath....not necessarily in that order....
See the OWS web site to find:
So, apparently, your guess is as good as mine.

OWS simply wants for free what the rest of us pay for. Health care, housing, education etc.
@ Mattt "what makes you think that's what they're about? Have you bothered listening to what they're saying..."
I got news for ya, Mattt....NO ONE listens to what they have to say anymore!......Time to move-on there Libby!
The only 'movement' OWS has actually produced so far has been a bowel movement! Usually on someone's private property while they take over a privately owned park (Zuccotti) that is left open for the public to use for a short time each day, not a two month drug fest and orgy. Funny thing - is there even one person in OWS who doesn't have the latest I-phone/I-pad/whatever pricey piece of electronic crap is on the market today as a 'status symbol'? Back to the basement for another year, kiddies, while the rest of us live in the real world.

So, I guess that means you'll be leaving us, huh MUW?? Well, thanks for playing "Let's jerk the Libs Around"!....nice parting gifts at the door.....
Awwwww what's the matter cupcake?
Can't think of anything else to say? Considering all you've done in your comments is post "silly, petty, little meaningless insults", I would've thought you'd have plenty of time to receive some of the same thing directed towards you.
Guess you're better at spewing it out than you are taking it huh pal?
Typical.
Sorry Grammar Queen Gizzard No More Time For Your Silly Petty Little Meaningless Insults!
Psst Tex Your Stuck On A Hill Looking Down On Nothing....The Battle Has Moved On!
So You And The Totally Unwise But Extremely Egoistical Gizzard Have Fun Jerking Each Other But PLEASE Keep Your Parting Gifts To Yourselves!

This coming from the guy who felt the need to bash numerous posts because he disagreed with them? This coming from the guy who had nothing but insults and snide comments all over the place?
But I'm the egotistical one?? (yeah you spelled that wrong too you uneducated clown!!) Hahahah wow.
Yes, by all means, please leave MUW. The average IQ on this vine will go up 10 points as soon as you leave. Thanks for being a vivid example of what not to be.
jesus MUW, you have been posting here for 4 hours. the internet is huge move around some or do you just stay here for 12 hours and camp out. I like some of your post but take a break dude
More free advertising from the liberal media, still trying to give relevancy and legitimacy to a bunch of ne'er-do wells.
Lazy bums, hippie wannabees and other assorted kooks.
Did you notice that has been no mention or action by the occupiers until the media brought them up the last few days.
Ah Yes Even The Mad Israeli Bomber Is Offended By Occupy Wall Street!
Hi Bomber Boy Long Time No See.....America You Have To Know You Are On The Right Side When Bomb Bomb Lemay Is Against You!
Hahaha Let The Battle Begin....
Psst Rex Can You Google....Yahoo...Bing....Ask...Startpage? If So Why Are You Spewing Nonsense?
Occupy Wall Street Has Been Active ALL YEAR ...Only Now The Dinosaur Corporate Media Has To Say Something Nationally Because Of All Of The Alternate Media Stories About The OWS Anniversary Out There.....But Hey OWS Was "DEAD" Yesterday....Remember?
Want the Truth....Go Find It Because The "Man Stream Media" Controlled By Wall Street Will NEVER Tell You The Truth......Only Want To Think!
And Your Kind Seem To Be VERY GOOD At Obeying What You Are Told To Think!
Collusion between Wall Street and Washington has prevented the country from punishing these criminals. The protestors should be in D.C.
I have a couple of books that I fear give an accurate view of our economic goings on.
"Predator Nation" by Charles H. Ferguson and "Bailout" by Neil Barofsky. Frightening and depressing to read.
A bit more optimistic: John C. Bogle: "The Clash of the Cultures" On page 81 of my copy of the book is a quotation called "Capture" by Robert A. G. Monks.
I wonder if American would be better off if people including the Occupiers read a bit more and watched video games and other entertainment a bit less
"Criminality"????really? This from a bunch of rapists, vandels, loiterers, drug addicts and just all around scum of the earth........this is just laughable.
Certainly you are speaking of Wall St., the biggest welfare recipients of this country!
True! Corporate Welfare is still going on and they are investing their money in the one who will give them more.

What a load of crap!
Occupy is sooo 2011.
It really should be OC. (Occupy Congress) They are wasting their time in NYC.
Did you notice that has been no mention or action by the occupiers until the media brought them up the last few days.
@Rex exactly. Talk about creating their own stories.
At the guy in the picture getting arrested- get a haircut and change out of pajamas when leaving the house is a good first step in getting a job.
In order for something to be a crime there has to be a law against it. Everything done on Wall St is legal and made so by Congress and the President.
Sorry, you don't live in a democracy. You live in a Republic.
Skup, the only correction is it was not this president, it was the Clinton administration that undid Glass-Steagle. That one action unleashed the beast. Gordon Geko brought to life along with his mantra that "Greed is good".
Simple and naive explanations are so easy for the uneducated to believe, it is SO much more complicated than that.
And a movie? really? like that has any bearing on on reality? Wow.
Actually, TAJ has a very good point. The movie pretty much sums up how business is done. Granted, it's over dramatized, but the point is still solid. Greed is what makes us the nation we are... otherwise, we'd be the U.S.S.R.
The balance between contentment and satisfaction has always been the issue. Those that are not contempt tend to push to get what others have. So in that sense both the Wall Street wealthy and OWS are greedy in that they want to get what others have.
Do not be satisfied with what you have but do be content that it is all you have for now.
Lack of being satisfied will lead to motivation and effort needed to achieve a goal. Lack of contentment will only lead to complaining.
ScoMata1964 - The reason Glass-Steagall was so effective was because of it's simplicity. Banks, investment firms and insurance companies could exist under the same roof. No way to get around it. Had those protections been in place when the housing market collapsed the depth and length of the recession would have been significantly less.
Does it really matter who unleashed Glass Steagall? It was a Republican bill, signed by Clinton.
Those of you who STILL labor under the fallacy that both parties are not equally complicit in allowing Wall St to run DC and ruin the economy need a serious reality check.
Yes, it does matter who unleashed Glass Steagall. As much as I like President Clinton I think it was the worst mistake of his presidency. He was warned not to do it, he was told that if he did the country would reap the horrible benefits in 10 years and that turned out to be true. I hate to say it, but Clinton started all of the greed and corruption on Wall Street. Glass Steagall had been put in place after the 30's depression to stop that sort of thing ever happening again. Clinton is very intelligent he should have known better.
Always Amazed,
Perhaps you need a bit of a reality check too. It wasn't just Wall St. that ruined the economy. If you want to point fingers, there's plenty of targets. The government, the consumers, the banks (which are not Wall St. by the way), etc. There are always multiple factors involved in the rise and fall of a nation's economy.
Attempting to lay it all at the feet of one entity is shortsighted and factually inaccurate at best and intellectually dishonest at worst.
Big business isn't the only one "running DC' as you put it. Unions and special interest groups have plenty of pull there too. They've had their particular impacts on the economy too. Anyone who says otherwise is also ignoring the facts.
It's time to quit laying blame and attempt to resolve the problems we have. Preferably using reason, rather than the mindless, rampaging emotionalism of the OWS fools.
They're so cute when they're one....still naively think that the world revolves around them and that all they have to do is cry and everyone will come running to make it all better for them.
"CUTE"??? Oh, you're too kind....Not exactly the adjective I had in mind.... lol
It;s too late to occupy Walstreet. We need to occupy congress. They allwoed it..
Extremism is every where. Read the offerings here, from one extreme to another. It seems to me that instead of bickering and name calling it would be more useful to try to see the other perspective. I used to make my kids take the others' opinion and fight FOR it. It taught them that there are always 2 sides to any argument. It taught them to be more tolerant and not to rush in judgement. I respect every opinion here even if I do not agree with it. I also think that who ever you are there will always be some one some where that does not agree with you, that's fine, just remember the first amendment, we are all free to speak no matter what our opinion. I disagree with the name calling, the doubting of another's character or ethics to be just as radical as the problems in the middle east. Those people have been brain washed into thinking everything that comes from this country is the result of government. They do not understand our freedom of speech because they have never had it. I would like to think that all of you, no matter what side you are on, will not be so extreme with your language and be more respectful. It is a shame that we the people cannot just state our opinion without the adjectives and preconceived character issues of others. Peace to all, and have a good day.
Good luck with that. Most people here will go to their grave thinking everyone else is wrong. The only reason the other side of an argument exists is to make them feel superior as they put it down with false analogies, false generalizations, cherry picking facts, and circular reasoning.
Only about 30% of online commenters type like rational adults.
30% rational? Generally closer to 2%.
While I agree with your thoughts, when one side becomes violent, or does harm to others, then debate is no longer possible. I do think the Tea Party which started out very simular, went about it the right way. They protested, and did not damage other's personal property. The got together and got members elected to state and federal government positions. The Shame is the Occupy movement turned into a mob rule, and thus lost justabout all support.
Allwoed????? Doris....try Sanka.
@ JoeNY.
Spelling 101:
Losing, not loosing. Besides there is not a word 'loosing' it would be 'loosening'. Notice lose and lost both have one letter 'o'. Loose means not tight. Yep, I know lose sounds as though it contains double 'o's.
Other than that your comment is well thought out.
Bubba Jones
Hey BubbaJones....let up a little....@JoeNY is probably a Chicago public school grad....he can't help it that he's an uneducated, mal-informed, cretin.
Actually, BubbaJones, "loosing" is a word. One meaning is to hoist an anchor. After loosing the anchor, we set sail. There are several other meanings of the word "loose" which could have the ending -ing.
In the context used by JoeNY, you are correct.
Bubba - first look at yourself before you criicize another...and BTW, he probaby was using an iPhone or iPad which has autocorrect..the damn thing changes my words all the time!
Does it make you feel like a big man to point out other people's spelling mistakes. This discussion is not about spelling. Grandfather, you are a rude and very ignorant man, presumably you are a PhD?
these occuturds have the same mentality as the muslim protesters. A religious fervor that bites the hand that feeds them. I wouild hope their government handouts would keep them in doobies but no they still demand more charity
these bozos just don't get it....they're soooo 'yesterday'....nobody gives a crap about them since they had no useful ideas or suggestions. Get over it...and go back to being the homeless group of drug-addict bums you always were.
Did you notice that has been no mention or action by the occupiers until the media brought them up the last few days.
Oops, Grandfather, you're really showing your age, and in your case, the attendant ignorance that goes along with it. Adopting a "My daddy was a Con so I'm gonna be one, too!!" attitude is as passe as garters. Try to think for yourself and do some honest evaluation before you knee-jerk your way into oblivion.
Wow... You really need to get outside and get some fresh air.
You're all genious Grandknuckle.
Granddick seems to have a bit-o-trouble digesting the suggestion that he is supposed to live in a free and open democratic society, even if said society is no longer operating as a free market economy. You questioned Grandddick's oligarchy and you're on the anonymous hissyfitting side of him.
The Occupy movement had more in common with the Arab uprisings in North Africa, by destroying property. Virgil, while it is true we live in a free society, it doesn't mean that they should be allowed to destroy, public, and Privite property. When they do that they should be delt with accordingly. Let them break bolders on a rick pile instead.
OWS lost most of it's creditability when it turned into a circus and violent. It took a good idea and turned it into a bad reality and for the most part lost favor with many Americans, who were with them at the start. It seems they have faded into little more than a bad memory and what they say now isn't worth much...and the band played on!!...
"Occupy" probably started with at least two groups, one that just sort of wants to protest or something and has little or no investment in the capitalist system and another group which does have investments in that (capitalist) system which might be as small as having a promised or earned pension (afraid of losing it) or even the expectation of receiving Social Security or as great as being invested in stocks or bonds of corporations which appear to be at risk of being looted by managements under today's government or corporate practices.
Government practices also today seem to run a higher than reasonable risk of degrading our money/currency system.
Really? Violence? None so blind as he who will not see.
So, right from the start, in other words.
OWS is boooooring and irrelevant.
I agree 100%... I read the comments and see that the older protesters are basically unhappy with their lot in life. The 59 and 66 year old should have done something different with their lives, then they wouldn't be so unhappy with their own choices. The younger voices appear to be the entitlement generation who don't want to put in the time and effort -- they want a handout, not a hand up. This is still America where if you can dream it, you can do it.
HAHAHA, thanks for the laugh today, Buck Spitoon. ...If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It...Got any more bumper stickers, bro? How about this one, If You Can Dream (of a Way to Defraud People with Ponzi Schemes or Get Into Politics So You Can Sit on Your Butt and Get Your Friends' Companies Gov't Contracts), You Can Do It - ahhh that's more like it. But I guess that's too long (and too honest) for the bumper sticker, isn't it? I don't see anyone getting rich (or even being comfortable middle class) honestly. But hey, keep dream-in' keep smile-in'...that's what friends (in high places) are for...
Another empty bogus slogan is not a solution to anything Spithead, certainly no solution to the wealth redistribution scam that's been going on for 4 decades now. Some of you dolts think you can float an economy based upon mass consumption with a 3rd world national economic distribution scheme? Jesus, you are dreaming alright. Why can't the victimized just be happy and silent.
Buck, is right, Look at Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, they became the 1%, because they invented things people wanted. They took risks and they paid off, Unlike the OWS'ers that believe that sitting on your butt, will earn you enough for retirement. Jenny, the number one Ponzi scheme is Social Security. Yet Liberials love it. Even Berrny M. ponzi scheme was a small imatation of the Feds version. I do agree that things are getting worse, and Stimulis 3 will make things worse. The OWS movement has done nothing good for America, it should be allowed to die on the vine. We already have enough thugs, dealers, and other undesireables in the city without OWS movement creating more destruction, for taxpayers to pay to fix.
hey guys,,, go to the real problem............... lobbyist with carpetbaggers-- if you stood for term limits for every politician (carpetbagger) --we would back you !! Wake up America !!!
The system is rigged , with a 2 party system! Later this year in 2012 is not for Nothing- Get ready- God is getting ready to do a real house cleaning around the world. You will see it all happen, this world will be purified- all the prophets point to this . read Matthew 24.

Oh those rich guys are so mean !!!!!
I had a movement this morning that reminded me of these idiots.....
Hard up for material Miranda?? lol...
Need to edit the stories title... Here's what you should have called it...
"Occupy protesters blast 'criminality' of Wall Street... and no one cares"...
Little Stevie would do well to learn about how his government and plutocracy operate in abject reality
