Bomb threat cleared at LSU campus, university says

Traffic stands still near LSU's campus Sept. 17, 2012.

Students, professors and staff at Louisiana State University were allowed to return to the school’s main campus in Baton Rouge Monday night, hours after a bomb threat forced a full-scale evacuation, school officials said.

“All classes and events scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 18 will be held as planned, and university employees and students should plan to return to their normal schedules on Tuesday,” LSU’s website said Monday night.

LSU Police and other law enforcement agencies are still investigating the origin of the threatening call.

Law enforcement officials had been on high alert since a call came in at 11:32 ET saying there was a bomb on the university’s grounds, university spokeswoman Christine Calongne said.

Students and staff were sent text messages and an alert was posted on the campus website warning, "A bomb threat has been reported on the LSU campus. Please evacuate as calmly and quickly as possible."

Classes and a news conference with LSU football coach Les Miles were canceled Monday due to the threat, officials said. Students and staff were asked to stay off campus as the university investigated the bomb threat.

"It is important for all members of the LSU community -- faculty, staff and students -- to remain off campus unless specifically instructed to return," the university said on its website.

Capt. Doug Cain of the Louisiana State Police told The Associated Press that state police bomb technicians were on the scene. Cain said police were talking to their counterparts in both Texas and North Dakota where university bomb threats were reported last week.

Traffic was at a standstill as the main campus’s 30,000 students, professors and staff evacuated school grounds. Buses loaded with students barely moved from the central part of LSU’s campus, according to The Advocate in Baton Rouge.

Andrew Arceneaux, an LSU student studying business administration, joined other students and waited for buses to arrive so they could leave campus.

“I was in the middle of taking a test and they walked in and told us we had to leave campus,” Arceneaux told the Advocate.

Both the University of Texas in Austin and North Dakota State in Fargo received threats on Friday. The threats prompted the evacuation of both campuses. No explosives were found at either university.

Probably Gene Chizik .... desperately looking for a chance to avoid total embarassment on the Plains.

LSU will administer a beatdown and the war chickens may not score.

PS dipstick, "They" did nothing but collect about $50k to help restore, save or replace the trees. "They" are not resposible for someone who never attended a single class at the University.

It's the Government doing this, they are trying to Scare people, they want to take our freedoms away, they want a New World Order.

9/11 was an Inside job, Building 7 wasn't hit by a plane, it was on fire, then, it just came down LIKE a controlled demolition, even the buildings that were hit by planes shouldn't have even came down. Experts are now speaking out and saying it was a controlled demolition, here's a video on PBS about experts investigating it: video(DOT)cpt12(DOT)org/video/2270078138

Think about it, they took so many freedoms away, the Patriot act makes growing Gardens ILLEGAL and lots of other things like that illegal, and then a lot of things that are Legal makes you a terrorist/terrorists suspect (like having more than 7 days of food in your house).

They got more wealth, more power and more control after 9/11 Happened. And all of the countries we've went to war with were ALL Enemies of Israel, and Israel Bribes congress ireport(DOT)cnn(DOT)com/docs/DOC-681705

Back in High School, we used to pull the fire alarm when we wanted to get out of classes. Now folks use disposable cellphones to call in bogus bomb threats.

I've never understood why someone would call in a bomb threat if they really had planted a bomb.

There were a few liberal wackjobs who blamed Romney for the bomb scare but there were far more people blaming Muslims than crazy liberals.

America is going to be seeing more of these kinds of threats because the world now sees that weinie in the White House is weak. We have had more loss of lives and terrorist attacks under Obama starting with the Fort Hood massacre, now Lybia, Eygpt and it's heading here. These events are the birth pangs and it's heading to our soil. Give it time. We need a leader in the White House not some Muslim sympathizer who is seen as weak around the world.

Sure it was, it was just hidden in the stories about Texas U and North Dakota.

Although of course if that figure mentioned on their wiki page of 1200 or so is a correct reflection on the size of Hiram, then just so you understand the difference, that represents about the same size as the High School that's on the LSU campus (U High) which was also evacuated...

It will be just as devastating when it come if Romney gets elected. Why do we blame either side? Both sides are pretty much the same. Yeah he protected us, oh, except that one time, you know, on 9/11!!

Historical and Recent School Bomb Threat Incidents

A number of high-profile incidents involving bombs and bomb threats took place prior to Columbine including:

A January, 1999, explosion in a high school locker in Kansas City sent 11 students to the hospital.

An irate parent took the deputy superintendent and an associate superintendent of a California education office hostage in late November of 1998. The standoff resulted in police killing the parent, who had a gun and seven bomb devices as a part of his siege.

Ten bombs, fireworks strapped to aerosol cans, forced the closure of a California elementary school.

One Maryland school district experienced more than 150 bomb threats and 55 associated arrests in one school year.

Up to a pound of ammonium nitrate was brought to school by a Nevada middle-school student.

Eight boys confessed to making three homemade bombs, two of which were placed at a Minnesota elementary school.

Okay, Raddar, now tell me how Obama is responsible, or even George Bush. People like you who have no factual basis for your claims against the President demonstrate the worst this country has to offer.

Especially the middle class.. Heard that somewhere. Something with Jack Nicholson and some hospital or maybe Obama and some hospital.

For a country that is slowly coming out of a recession, we are doing very well. Yes there is a large percent of the population that is unemployed, but that is because the GOP believes that the Bush tax cuts to the rich are creating jobs. So for 12 years now, we are asking for "Jobs; not tax cuts. But the GOP refuses to raise taxes on the rich. No taxes on rich = no new jobs.

Only new jobs created came from small business owners and the 18 tax cuts they received from Obama. Yes, America is doing well under Obama for the most part.

We can evacuate three college campus' on a phoned in threat, but we cannot evacuate our embassey when the head of Libya's government warns our government 48 hours ahead of an attack on 9/11???????

Good thing the college administrations are taking care of their business.

Of course if you think waiting an hour to advise students and faculty about the bomb threat an hour after it is called in and reported to be going off in 90 minutes, then sure they're doing a good job.

FWIW most are STILL sitting in traffic on campus

Disguntled students make threats every year and think it is a big joke one day there could be a real threat and some students may not evacuate because of the clowns who reported false threats in the past.

OK so we are getting bomb threats at different Universities and we evacuate. So say that they do this 8 to 9 times and we find no bombs so that we drop our guard. And on the 10 threat we don't evacuate and that is the one with the bombs. I think if you find these people you send them overseas to where we are having problems and let them work out how to get back on their own. Or just kill them on the spot. I'm sick of this crap.

STM - Bush had only been in office 9 months when 9/11 happened. I'm pretty sure this had been in their plans way before that.

And ask my best friend in Georgia that has been out of work for almost two years, how much better off she is during Obama's term.

if you're voting for Romney because you have ONE friend in another state who is out of work, you're doing it wrong. There are thousands of students who can't clear their debt or find jobs. THAT is a good reason to vote for something but one friend in Georgia?... LOL OK. Her example was contrived and shallow was all I was saying.

Hmm. It's a little surprising to see all the threats coming around election time? I mean the threats at LSU, Texas, North Dakota, the release of the video against Islam, etc. Anything to prove how this administration is weak on terrorism and overall foreign policy? Just saying.

If they wanted to get back at us they would be planning something bigger, bloodier or more costly than bomb threats. Muslims know they are under far more scrutiny and lenses than the rest of the population- if they were actually planning something, they wouldn't announce it.

There is a small chance it is, but if they are muslim, they are much more likely to be caught.
