SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Correctional officers quelled a fight that left one New Folsom Prison inmate shot and at least 10 others hospitalized with stab or slash wounds, officials said Wednesday.
State Corrections officials said the fight involving an unknown number of inmates broke out shortly after 11 a.m. in one of the yards at what is formally known as the maximum-security California State Prison, Sacramento, which houses 2,600 inmates.
Officials said that besides using less-than-lethal force, an officer using a rifle shot one inmate, who was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The inmate's condition has not been released.

Officials said it appears that no prison staffers were injured in the incident.
Nearly a dozen inmates were taken to outside hospitals after a riot at the same prison in December.

Shoot 'em all. We simply can't afford these thugs in our prson sytem any longer.
Amen, General Jaffey.
@Jaffey,
So are we to assume you've never broken any law, ever? Or is it more likely that you never got caught?
We all do stupid things at least once in our lives, just some folks end up getting caught and spend time in the correctional system...Most are no less worthy than any of us on the outside.
Shoot em' again...
Attica, Attica, Attica!
I remember when a convict was a tough guy like James Cagney or Humphey Bogart. Now they all look like circus freaks covered in tattoos and are raving sodomites. What a disappointment.
Not_So_lazy
umm there maximum security for a reason which is basically the worst of the worst..... so yes we've all broken laws those who need to die should die nough said
With all due respect, California doesn't necessarily classify offenders based solely on their crimes. In other words, a shoplifter might be housed with a triple-murderer in that maximum security prison. Besides that, some offenders are housed according to their medical needs.
It's really not for John Q. Public to decide the fates of any prisoners.
I am a retired Lieutenant and EARTHCAT you are either a computer coward and idiot or an ex con. Maybe both?
Damn straight, shoot em all. Imagine the savings. Besides, Lazy Guy, it would be a good reason for those "shoplifters" to think twice.
I beg to differ.....it is EXACTLY up to john Q. Citizen to determine what we do with felons convicted of cromes and housed in our prison system. Its the citizen that puts people in power via ballot box to operate and control our laws and agencies as we the society determine as long as its within the parameters of the constitution.
This is the reason california has jerry (I hate the death penalty) brown and hotel style prisons, while Texas has an express line to the death chamber and work farms. One group of people support one way, another group of people support the other.
No matter what it all comes down to what concerned involved citizens want.
Those that are not concerned usually get the government they deserve.
Lol...Rofl...
Shoplifting is a misdemeanor. They won't throw you in prison for that, Einstein. You'll just get a little jail time...that's all.
>_>
(In case you didn't know - there is a difference between prison and jail)
" Not so lazy Guy" - There is a VAST difference between those doing time in Prison and the rest of us who "broke the law" by speeding or another minor misdomeanor. They are in Prison for a reason. Screw them.
Lazy,
Yes, they do classify offenders solely by their crimes. As a rule, maximum security prisons only house violent offenders. You'll never find somebody who shoplifted or got a DUI in a maximum security prison, unless he behaved violently at the lower security institutions.
It costs far more money to house an inmate at a maximum facility than it does any other type of prison, so state officials usually don't send an inmate to maximum unless they pose a clear threat at any lower level of security. In other words, if you're in a maximum security prison, you haven't just made a couple mistakes; you've completely effed up your chance at life, and things would probably be better off without you.
[earthycat777], you sound like a tree hugging, cat loving liberal female.
You would probably wet yourself in a prison environment, never mind during a riot. So, some skell got shot by the Officer. The skell was probably the instigator and one who was stabbing the other inmates. I just hope the Officer can go home and sleep like a rock after what he was forced to do. Some (not all) of the inmates behind bars are not human.....more like animals. The rest just want to do their time and get the hell out in one piece.
not_so_lazy_guy, then how is it that a jury of your peers, picked from the public get to decide if your not guilty or guilty?
Inmate shot? Good. Give the guy a medal and more bullets. I'm tired of paying for these criminals room and board
Most people are in prison for a reason. They stepped on their collective cranks somewhere along their choice of lifestyle. When they were arrested for their crime, most were past offenders, thus they get sent to prison. Sorry about that.
"Don't overestimate the decency of the human race." H.L. Menken
"earthycat" is either a con,a wanna be mall cop or some prison guard had multiple relations with his/her spouse.
Either way, what old "earthycat" needs is a little "hands on education"...suit them up,hand them a little bottle of mace and a night stick....and shove them into the cell block with the worst offenders in the entire prison for a nice long 10 or 12 hour shift and see what they have say about it after they crawl back out of there crying for momma!LOL.
"I am nobody's bitch, you are all my bitch" -Yulaw
They do know they can be shot, don't they?
@NOTSOLAZYGUY-So what, your another liberal criminal lovin' bleedin' heart or what???? THose cons in that maximum security prison would take your damn sympathy, ram it down your throat and pull it out your other end just for kicks!!!!
buzzkillone
Second offence for shoplifting( petty theft) is a felony and you can go to prison. Get your facts straight before you laugh at others
Good Shooting!!! Shoot all of them!! Just think of all the money we could save if the trash of society had only 40 days left to live after conviction. I just love the Anime "Death Note!!!"
Well I am NOT a criminal lover and I am NOT a leftist. I know, however, that not everyone in prison is necessarily a bad person. I have a very good friend who at one time was a very prolific bank robber. He ended up going to Federal Prison and spent half of his life there. He was once considered one of the worst by the cops, but he really wasn't a bad person. He ended up turning his life completely around. He got a sponsor and worked his way back to society. He has had some setbacks because of his past haunting him but he still stayed a good citizen and even risked his life many times to save people (from burning cars and other terrible accidents). I am glad he survived and that he is free today. He would do anything to help anyone who needs it. He is honestly a good person. So, when someone says stupid things like "just shoot them all", I get angry because it shows how ignorant people can be.
Bfowler, one thing you don't realize is that the criminal "justice" system is badly biased against the poor. I know because I have seen it first hand. Even if you are innocent, if you cannot afford a decent attorney, you will end up getting convicted. Public defenders (whom we call "Public Pretenders") are in bed with the DA. All they do is work out a deal with the DA and then scare the hell out of you by saying it is the best chance you have. Even if there is tons of evidence proving you are not guilty, the PD will not fight very hard for you and there is a good chance you will end up with the harshest sentence if you don't take the deal. It is a set up. We don't have justice in this country. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes over and over and over again.
Rick-7570;
Maybe if you're shop lifting 90 inch flat screens at ten K a pop. I've seen people caught on multiple shop lifting counts who never see anything beyond booking to bail. They get probation, probation, diversion, more probation.
Perhaps LazyGuy was referring to California's 3 Strikes policy. Has it occurred to anyone that with 3 strikes, the first two offenses can be felonies and the third can be a misdemeanor, thus "3 strikes" has occurred? That is presently how California's Three Strikes Law is written. It is up for vote this November at which time the revision will, among other things, hold accountable the law for three felonies, as it should be.
Let's remember that the Constitution was written for the benefit of the accused to be "innocent until proven guilty". All I have seen posted is vengence and hatred. This is certainly not representative of how I was raised. This is not representative of "turn the other cheek". For all those that say, "she must be a liberal nut", I will tell you that I have been raped, at knife point and my rapist has never been caught though I did report him to the police. Do I wish him death? Do I wish him to feel the humiliation I felt? I wish him neither though I see him in my nightmares. I wish him help. I wish for him to see the pain he created in my life though I have gotten past the daily pain.
My life is not ruled my my rapist. It would be if I wished him pain in any way. That is the difference that people who live with vengence in their lives do not understand. Vengence is not for me to desire.
Look, Janine got a Jail House proposal once. How quaint. Did he promise you he'd love ya forever Janine...what a marooon.
I've never committed a crime - and I'm still a virgin too.
Janine -
Your "friend" must be very special. Prolific bank robber and "not a bad person." You personally know that the system is stacked aganst the poor? So what were you convicted of?
Some of us consider a prolific bank robber a bad person. Sone of us consider a murderer a bad person. Hell, osme of us even consider a thief to be a ba person.
We don't consoder a poor person bad, but a multiple felon makes the cut.
JP - (great clown, by-the-way)
So how many felonies have you committed? Care to share the specifics? There are so amny laws that everyone beyond the maternity ward has committed some "crime." Doesn't mean they are felons.
I'm betting not so lazy is exactly the opposite. Jay walkers don't go to prison. Not jail, prison!
Are you people kidding me!? Ever heard of wrongfully convicted? My goodness, how many documentaries or movies do we have to see before you get that some of the folks in there are possibly set up for a crime they did not commit. Shoot 'em all? Easy to say through your keyboard...
We need to find an island out in the middle of the ocean and just drop them off and let them fend for themselves.
They would all start looking like Steve McQueen.
Amen to another thinker in our society. It's survival of the fittest in the animal world which they've proven that's what they are.
delbert-hawaii would get pissed --lol
If it was survival of the fittest you would be the first to die jen idiot from houston. You have more than proven you are a coward and nothing more than an animal by your ignorant comments. You and all weak cowards like you must always have a scapegoat, so you pick someone that is not in your face. If any of those prisoners were in your face, you would be lifting your skirt and trying to offer your nasty smelly body.
Delbert Stinkfester
We need to find an island out in the middle of the ocean and just drop them off and let them fend for themselves.
What a great idea.......and I've got the perfect one - how about Australia! Uniquely qualified, too!
Alex you don't have any clue what you're talking about. In prison people dont walk around and rape other people you stupid ass. I did 4 years in prison, i bet your girly ass would piss your pants if i got in your face. youre like the snitches in there, you talk and talk but the only difference from them and you is you're behind a computer while the snitches were being protected by the turnkeys. you are a PU$$Y, that is why you talk down to a female. now what bitch
@ Delbert, wasn't that already done with Alcatraz? And in Australia - yeah prisoners were dumped there by the United Kingdom, since then it was their territory. Now though they are much more civilized than what are in the prisons and certainly do not deserve to have their country spoiled.
Yes, we could instead replace these inmates with the "official killers"(police) that shoot and kill and car chase to death (called accidents) almost 10,000 people each year in just 48 States--in Alaska and Hawai they have their own "laws", for that.--they just hide it!
It would be nice if we could get close to Western country standard on this issue, and the police goes to jail like anyone else, but we are far from it
@alex-3123851
If any of those prisoners were in my face then they would be getting a face full of .357 hollow point.
:)
And I'd sleep quite peacefully that night.
Surprisingly, Alex makes it quite easy. He bashes members on this board for being 'cowards'. yet he's doing the exact same thing that he's so pissy about.
Oh those silly glass houses.
Absolutely agreed!!! Why the hell should honest, hard working taxpayers support their POS azzes??? THey get better medical and dental care than many citizens. THousands are freakin' illegals that don't even belong in this country and they have more rights than John Q. PUblic does alot of the time!!! Billions are spent just on the damn illegal prisoners in Cal. alone every single year while their bably momma's with their anchor babies get housing, welfare, foodstamps and again, medical that alot of citizens can't afford. THen our El Presidente wants to give them amnesty!?!?!?! Put them on the damned Island and be done with them!!!!!!! Go ahead and call me a racist for the illegal remarks. I don't care. I think I'll excercise my fist amendment right to free speech while I still can in this country!!!!!
Bund -
where did you come up with these figures? I would truly be interested - though I suspect that you made them up in your cell at some secure facility . . .
I was a CO for years
why is this a story
because the media likes to talk about scumbag prison guards, and cowards like you, that is why douchebag.
You're right Alex. Everyone who is in prison landed there by trying to improve their community. None of them are scumbags at all.
Since you seem like an idiot Alex ill help you out. Thalarian was using sarcasm
You can tell who is an ex con. They are usually named alex.
"You can tell who is an ex con. They are usually named alex."
lmfao!!
alex--sounds like you have some pen time maybe you will be going back someday with any luck.
alex the reason im saying that is only their kind sticks up for each other nobody else-- paint a target on your back when you get there
You are wrong Susie Q. I have owned businessess all my life and luckily never did a day in jail, but have known good men and women to fall and do time. They were all better than the cowards on this board, who must have a scapegoat, like prisoners,to make themselves feel better, when in fact they know they are truly pitiful scumbags, leading pitiful lives. Funny how you all cowards run in the pack, but if you were in front of a prisoner, you would be scared to death. Only the weak cowards use prisoners as a scapegoat. Jesus was a prisoner, so were a lot of great men in the bible. I would not expect you to have ever read a bible though.
Keep living your pitiful lives and keep trying to fool yourselves into believing you are anything but a loser.
I was a CO for 18 years Alex. Would love to meet you on a street corner and see which one of us is a coward
Since when do the cons like Alex get computer time?
alex is just butt hurt ( no pun intended) because when he was incarcerated he must have dropped the soap a little to often.....
Alex---You are the coward. I worked 32 years in prisons and saw the scum alright. And, its the loudmouths like you that always got in trouble. Poor baby. Your infantile remarks tell us enough about you.
So let me see if I got this straight, the prisoners are scumbags and the guards are the same? Guess it all depends on what end you're looking at it from.
Alex - "owned businesses" huh? Wow, and you're such a success now since you couldn't "own" mowing lawns as an exclusive business. FYI - a SUCCESSFUL businessman develops a BUSINESS that becomes self-sustaining. Something you haven't obviously achieved during your business misadventures. Douche bag, we have every right to feel nothing for miserable excuses for human beings that are in prison, rioting, and killing each other. Good people don't simply "fall" and end up doing time in a State Prison. They end up there because they SHOULD be there and they finally got caught.
Meh...
Been around plenty of ex-cons. I was never impressed. Most of them are squishy like a marshmallow.
At least now I see Alex's glaring problem. However, it's not for me to to decide.
Alex. For my next set of Title 10 Orders overseas, I'll bring you along and let you see what I see. I'll make sure to document who is the coward in that scenario. Poor, lost little soul. :)
Semper Paratus.
Alex, This is where you fail...'Good men and women' don't do jail or prison time. Good people are the ones who got educated, work hard and pay taxes.
Want to know who are the true 'losers'?....Those who've spent time, behind bars as an inmate, in jails and prisons, and their ignorant, pathetic supporters, like YOU.
WRONG Angela, many times good men and women DO end up in prison or jail. Sometimes just for the crime of having a "controlled substance" in their system--when they may have fallen into addiction due to an accident or injury. Others have been wrongly accused but didn't have the financial means to hire a good attorney and had to rely on a Public Pretender. YOU are the ignorant and pathetic one because you insist that the system always works and that everyone in jail or prison must be bad. But there are innocent people there and many of them are poor because they can't afford a real attorney.
Alex your an a...hole we all feel sorry for your mom. You are probly living at her house using her computer and hunting for little kids. Stand in front of me, I wouldn't shoot you I'd kick your A$$ over and over again while my dog pi$$es on you. DICK
It is clear that Alex and Janine have a different definition of "good men and women" than the norm. How many first-time arrestees end up doing prison time?
I seldom look at my life and make value judgements on others, but I'll bet my list of good people/friends is superior to theirs.
Okay, here we go.....
I have done close to 19 years in Maximum Security prisons, in three seperate states. (Florida, California and Tennessee.) I was 14 years old when I was charged as an adult and sent to prison. I was sitting in Raiford on my 16th birthday and before it was said and done, I was 32 when finally released for good. (I am now 42)
I earned and deserved every single day I did in prison. In fact, I probably should have done more than I did. So I make no excuses for it and I do not blame anybody else. It wasn't society's fault, it wasn't my friends fault and it wasn't my parents fault. It was my fault and I deserved what I got.
So with that said.....
I'm seeing and reading a whole lot of bull@!$%# about both this story and the people involved. I'm seeing a bunch of people who have no clue about this environment or most of the people inside of it. And that includes the Co's.
I'm going to address the simple one's first.
There are innocent people in prison. Ther are guilty people in prison. There are @!$%# Co's who are there because they can't do anything else. There are real convict guards who are there to do their job and they do it the right way.
The fact of the matter is this. The odds are good that every inmate involved with this was there on purpose. You have got to understand where you are talking about and since I have a few years under my belt in California, I think I qualify. And for the record, no, I was not in New Folsom. (I did my California time in the Q', Soledad and Pelican Bay.)
Everything in California is based on gang activity. Period. At least in the Level 4 and 5 institutions. Nothing goes on that is not gang related or sactioned. Hell, in Pelican Bay, I never once set foot on the yard with another race. Not once. Yard time was 100% segregated. It had to be due to the ongoing wars between gangs and races.
In reality, yard time was based on GANG AFFILIATION, not even race. You simply couldn't put Northerners or BGF'ers on the yard with Southerners or AB'ers. And you couldn't put what we call "civilians" on the yard with any of the above. (Civilians are non-gang affiilated inmates.) What i'm saying are facts, not an opinion.
So the fact is, the odds are very good that this was a gang thing. Now granted, it's been close to 15 years since I was in the California system. But some things never change and, well, gang activity in California prisons is one of them. They run the prisons and nothing goes on without their permission. Period. The co's and the administration do not run a damned thing, no matter how much they try to convince you otherwise. All they do is herd the cattle to where they want to go and thats it. And thats the way it should be.
Now, you also have to know how California Level 4-5 works. There are sirens and there are red flashing lights throughout the prisons. The very FIRST thing they teach you when you enter DOC in Reception is about the sirens and lights. And the rule is so simple that that the biggest idiot in the world can understand it.
If the siren/lights go off, you immediately lay face down with your arms stretched out flat on the ground. You have 3 seconds to do it. If you do not, you are considered a threat and you will be shot. There are no warning shots and there are no "wounding" shots. They shoot to kill and the towers carry Mini-14 Assault Rifles. The only people who might get a pass on this rule are inmates who are either deaf or blind and they have to wear bright orange vests that identify them as such, so the guards know they are handicapped. (You know, vests like you see road workers wearing.)
Everybody knows this rule. Everybody. It's drilled into you from Day 1 and you dont pretend it doesn't matter or doesn't exist. To do so could cost you your life.
So if any of the inmates involved in this were civilians, they would have been laid flat from the get-go and would have been okay. The odds of a civilian participating in the fight is so unlikely, it's almost non-existent. Only a gang member will will remain standing and fighting. Period. And they will, even with the threat of gun play. They have to. To do anything else will cost them big with their own gang. As long as their enemy is standing and fighting, you must also be standing and fighting back. Period.
To many of you are commenting when you have no idea what you are talking about. You watch 3 episodes of "Lock Up Raw" and you are suddenly a penal expert. Well, I have news for you. TV never get's it right...or real. You are seeing an edited version that is...well, simply bull@!$%#.....
Believe it or not, there are some people in prison who are innocent. I don't think these people should be shot :(
the people that are "innocent" wouldn't be involved in a riot. If someone that is "innocent" gets involved the should know they'll be shot
True but the stabbing and slashing is ok.
a very very very small amount lets get real here
They are convicts, in prison because they are theives, murderers and whatever else. They are in prison to be punished and here they are doing exactly the same things as they did to get into prison. Our prison system is a Joke because of people who don't want to hurt anybodys feelings. Punishment...what a joke. It's about time we go back to the old ways and punish these dirtbags. End of story. Shoot em if they need to be shot.
John, when that riot starts do you really believe there's a choice to be "involved" or not? If you do you live in an alternate universe!
Maybe so, but I don't think there are too many "innocent" at Folsom...
These people are displaying the same mentality in prison as they did outside it. "Innocent" people do not get involved in more criminals activity... sorry they just don't do it. Guilty people show their true colors both inside as well as out. These people will always violate other peoples rights. They have no respect for themselves and will treat others as they were treated. Those that defend these people, like Alex, are either of the same mentality or totally unaware of the danger these guard face on a daily basis.
I have no love for government or people... The guards are doing their job. Prisoners are in prison AS punishment not for punishment. They need to take advantage of the time given to better themselves rather than follow the same path that got them there. They need to have the courage to look into their life and examine THEIR choices bad and stop blaming others for their stupidity. They need to take control of their thoughts, actions, ideas and beliefs. Control yourselves and you have all the "power" that will ever be needed.
Actually its New Folsom there are two Prisons there. And there may be more innocent than you think. Not everyone gets a fair trial.
Folsom is for the worst of the worst. The chances of someone who is 'innocent' being incarcerated there are probably too small to be a factor.
Fool, They are all innocent, just ask them.
Those "innocent" prisoners do exist, but they are very few and far between the norm!!!
Atlantic-Paul Folsom is not for the worst of the worst. That would be Pelican Bay. And the riot happened at New Folsom not The old Folsom Prison they are two separate places.
this is not a Johnny cash song. Pelican Bay is where they send the inmates that get total lockdown. No yard time with other inmates. 1 hour by themselves if they are on good behavior. Folsom has a yard and New Folsom may have a maximum security. But it is no Pelican Bay. Pelican bay is more like Supermax.
Even if they aren't innocent some people DO turn their lives around and become good people. There may not be a lot of them, but to advocate shooting all of them because you are tired of paying for them is just WRONG. It makes me glad the Founding Fathers had more intelligence and greater vision than people do today.
The innocent ARE convicted and it does happen. E testimony is notoriously incorrect and unreliable. Testimony is coerced and recanted. Even DNA can be planted (though infrequent). If you have doubts, please check The Innocence Project for verification. Men have been incarcerated for rapes and murders on "eyewitness" testimony for 16-25 years and are now being released due to proven, tested DNA techniques which were unavailable years ago. Not only was the technology unavailable, the amount of DNA required to test was larger then than it is now. It took science a long time to catch up with the wrongly accused. Again, these accused were convicted based on typically used but unreliable eyewitness testimony and jailhouse testimony. At this point, neither jailhouse testimony or eyewitness testimony alone could convict a person.
The erroneously incarcerated when released are entitled to $50,000/year per each year they were wrongly incarcerated. This amount is doubled if they were on Death Row. Considering this cost, wouldn't it behoove us to ensure people were correctly incarcerated and convicted? I have absolutely no problem sending someone to jail or prison providing the DNA and evidence conclusively proves they committed the crime. All I am saying is, if there is any possible chance of error, let's err on the side of caution and ensure that DNA is conclusive.
With the postings I'm reading, far too much anger and vengeance is coming through. When a legal case is being heard, vengeance and anger have no place and must be set aside. If that cannot be done, in all good conscience, the potential juror must step aside.
Janine & Margo -
how many of those who are incarcerated for their conviction have priors and other felonies for which they haven't been covicted?
Yeah, talk to us about these "good people."
Let them fight it out then shoot the winner... Natural selection is a mother...
Let's just shoot you before you shoot off your ignorant mouth again, loser.
he didn't anything wrong. these men don't deserve to be alive
I would bet Alex lives off our goverment and complains that his free life needs more financial infusion.
Who the hell died and made you God? Is not your job to decide who lives and who dies. That's why their in jail... fool
Thanks for telling us about yourself jennie pooh. You sound like some dirtbag that lives off of the taxes I pay. I have never received anything free in my life, and worked hard, and I bet you are the exact opposite. You sound like a classless mouthy spoiled brat to me jennie pooh from the stupid state of texas.
Alex, I doubt that your even an adult. BTW I think I heard your momma calling you....it's time for you to stop playing on the computer and go nighty-night!!!!!
Shoot'em all and the taxpayers money.....LOL
why is this a story? who cares? These men are in prison, they do not deserve the luxury of the officers being gentle. I think all 10 should have been shot for being involved.
And I think your momma should be shot for bringing a scumbag like you into this world, johnnie boy. Do us all a favor and stfu pea brain.
I'm a scumbag? Look at who you're defending
Don't be mean John. Alex has a boyfriend in prison.
i can't figure out if they met there or if hes just hanging onto someone that "really cares" about him
alex tell me why do you defend the prisoner were you one at one time? or your daddy ?? Im serious here?? most people whoudll realixe these peole are there for a reason with multiple appeals appeals apppeals money from the gov. appeals money money money money whata ya think
I also think we should be very slow to take the injured prisoners to the hospital - like a day or two.
take the long way around stop for gas get some coffee--donuts-- ambulance needs washed im sure catch a movie then park it and take them the next day
But, Wizzard (@7.5), you also have to understand the vast majority of convicts are not there for violence but non-violent offenses. Would you agree with the idiot above who prefers to simply just kill all prisoners to save taxpayer money? If you claim to be so patriotic, decent and law-abiding then you should realize that's the way the system works, i.e., appeals are part of the process of law. There are many people now in prison who are behind in, e.g., child support payments, contempt of court even for inadvertantly failing to adhere to a payment plan, traffic ticket violations, etc. Consider this: a person can go into a grocery store and steal a customer donation jar on the counter and perhaps get caught for stealing the $5 it contained. Go to jail for doing so. But in this forked tongued society the corporate fat cats can literally steal to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars and get no jail time when caught. Remember, this country was founded, inter alia, to get away from being sent to"debtors prisons" for non-violent or minor infractions--the very things people here are now being imprisoned for again.
John, how long did it take to become such a jerk? Is wizard your only friend? Better hope you're never wrongfully convicted, because with a mouth like yours I don't think you'll last.
You know when I think of child molesters. I think about how society should castrate them. Yet when I think of other convicts. You know the ones which I do not know what they did. What the reason was. And stuff like that. I find it ironic that Supposedly Sane upstanding citizens. Would be wishing death for all criminal's.
You know there are inmates that are there. For shooting a person that stole their watch. Or killing the guy who raped his 9 year old. Not all prisoners are there because they are Evil. They broke the law. And some laws are stupid. So to those that say just shoot them all are you really any better? Really you are wishing death on a person you know nothing about.
And talking of prolonging misery and pain on a Human being. Maybe a convicted felon yes. But I bet some of those Felons have a better soul than some of the people posting here.
I know for a fact that if I had to defend myself against an attacker. And go to prison for it. Id serve my time and defend myself in their as well. I almost did end up there for defending myself. Would have had to do at least 5 years. Thankfully a judge threw the case out.
I have made mistakes that could have landed me in prison. I have paid for my mistakes. And have learned from them.
Jean, don't think you know all that much about the justice system. Small time offenders that get caught taking the donation jar from a store DON"T go to a maximum security prison. Maybe a couple of months in a county jail somewhere. Hard time in a prison like that is for the real bad boys!!!

Slrewdworld beat me to some of it. How many folks do you think are in Folsum (1 or2) because they are behind on child care payments? How mamy petty thiefs (without a significant history)? Traffic tickets - Folsum? Are you delusional or just obtuse?
Think before you post!
My cellmate in Soledad was doing 25 to Life for shoplifting a $3.65 bottle of Wild Irish Rose wine. No violence whats-so-ever. He stuffed the bottle down his pants and walked out the door. The Police arrested him 2 blocks away without incident.
He was Struck Out under California's 3 Strike Law. He had 4 priors, all for theft. One of the charges was for Armed Burglary, but he wasn't armed when he broke into the car. He stole a knife out of the car and under the law, the minute he took the knife he was considered armed. Thus the Armed Burglary charge.
He's doing LIFE. Forever. For shoplifting. He has never, not even once, committed a violent crime or hurt anybody physically. He was, point blank, an alcoholic drunk who was a petty thief. For that he has to spend the rest of his life in prison.
Back then, Soledad was a Level 4 institution. Maximum Security. (I do not know what it is now. This was in 96-97-98-99.) Do not believe -even for a second- that his story is rare. Do you have any idea how many 18-20 year olds are now doing LIFE under the 3 Strike Law, even though most have never committed a serious or violent crime?
And Folsom? Either Old or New? It's no different. It's a Level 4 Institution, but you have people in there who are only doing a 1 year sentence for total bull@!$%#. California -most states in fact- do not give a damn what your history is or what crime you were convicted for. They will send you wherever they have an open bed. Period. It doesn't matter if you have a 1 year sentence or you have a 100 year sentence. Your going wherever theres an open bed. It was that way in California and it was also that way in Florida and Tennessee.
Other than the Level 5 Units in Pelican Bay and Corcoran, any bed is a good bed as far as the system is concerned. Most of you can talk all day, but you have no idea what you are talking about. You are making the huge mistake of thinking the system has sense in the way it conducts it's business. It does not.
I've been there and done that. Do you get it? I've been there. I did close to 19 years and almost all of it was in Maximum Security. (See post 3.20) So unfortunately, I know all to well how it works. Now granted, I was finally released for good in 2002, so maybe some things have changed. But I doubt it, as some things just dont change and the sense that any DOC has is one of them.....
What was the reason they broke this up?
They ran out of beds in the hospital?
Just another riot at Folsom. It must be a slow news day.
Shoot them all. I know they are all innocent was framed. Save the state some money.
Some may be innocent............ older police methods may been a little lacking, I don't have the answer to that. Positive proof of guilt why are we housing them. I am a CO and prison only breeds criminal behaivior. Some people do not want to change, it is a life style that they like and probably know nothing else.
I meant to edit. It is a set up. Convicts have no chance after prison time when they are released into a world with no resources and no prospects, because they spent their time playing bones, handball, and watching cable TV. The convicts that learn a trade eventually get discouraged, after being turned down time and time again due to their criminal past. In any case people tend to fall back to what they know and what is comfortable to them....... sadly its job security.
What about POWs? How come they don't turn into raving lunatics?
I am not sure what you mean. How does a POW compare to someone locked up for a crime..... POW= prisoner of war.
Scott Man, I've employed parolees who wanted to change their lives and learned a trade, and only 1 ever went back. There is hope but it requires two things, a genuine desire to change their life, and someone willing to hire them.
Because as motivated and trained honorable military men when groups are incarcerated as POW's they band together as a unit, work to support each other in times of weakness and hardship and still operate by a code of conduct. Criminals on the other hand are degenerate scumbags who made a living preying off of others in society, then when incarcerated keep to their ways by preying on each other.
In modern california prisons today there would be no hardships without the inmates themselves putting it on each other. There is no draconian punishment. They have free medical, free food, free housing, air conditioning, TV etc etc. Guards just keep them from leaving, not punish them.
Its the inmates who create the problems for each other.
Riots a good way to blow off steam and a good way to have some jack booted thug beat you down.
How do you know this? The voice of experience?
maybe the voice of experience............ but try being the "jack booted thug" out numbered 10 or more to 1 and trying your best to keep your brothers safe, yourself safe, and yes the prisoners safe. I am sworn to do this and take it serious. SCARY STUFF!!!!! Blow off steam....F U
did you say always or allways........... speaking from your knowledge.... I mean edumacation..... STFU u don't realy knoow do ya
Scott Man -Thanks for doing a dangerous and unglamorous job. Most of us sit here behind our keyboards with no clue whatsoever.
Ignore earhtycat - an obvious troll.
CDCR has approximately 3500 assaults on staff every year. Stabbings, broken backs, necks, crushed skulls. It never stops. Nobody in their right mind should work there. May God protect those that do. A CO has a dangerous job.
Dear Friends:
We live right here and no messages out here so people would know this was occuring. Would they have driven as close to the prison? Nothing out in the mega phones and air waives except about a case that should have been settled out of court and for equality and justice and or other gossip.
Where are you newspeople? As it is happening did it go on the radio and broadband?
Wow tension in the air. Get it straight our Governement is working for you. Know the truths!
Watch the speech on Latino News stations. Obama is going to speak to that sector of the population. Talk about the truths. Talk about our government and the false teachings and biases of the Romney.
Protect your clan, heretage, history and faith. Protect your tax dollars.
You're an idiot, go away!
Shar-Did you forget to take your meds????
So, did Shar just address all latino brothers who are incarcerated???? WTH??? Too bizarre!
So --- how much time have you done alex ... your mother must be so proud. Yeah, yeah - they're just misguided and misunderstood, right? They just need to be shown some compassion and understanding .... hahaha
if you knew the money wasted on these prisoners youd throw up theres a prisoner here right now gettin hormone injection to grow boobs because thats his freakin right this is true no bull@!$%# Oh yea did I forget to mention thata hes on death row imagine what those shots cost and yes were payin em honest to fraking god no bull @!$%#
If someone is getting hormone shots to grow boobs and he has not yet had his tallywhacker turned into a vagina, is he still allowed to walk around without his shirt on?
Did you guys fail to read the article on this site a couple of weeks ago about an inmate who fought for, and won, the right to a sex change operation, AT TAXPAYER EXPENSE? To top it off, he is a lifer and is never getting out, but 'WE' have to pay for his unnecessary cosmetic surgery?...
Shoot them, shoot them all!
Yeah didn't that SOB murder his wife??? Some damned bleeding heart judge felt sorry for this scumbag because he was going to kill himself if he didn't get his sex change!!!! THe damned judge should just let him do it!!!!!
Sounds like Alex may have spent some time in the pen. He sounds a little hostile about some of the guards. Relax Alex, hopefully you are out now.
I am a tax payer Shoot the lot and cut taxes!!!
what i want to know is what 2 races where fighting? how come they dont tell us that? as for the rest of you jacka$$ that say shoot them all and so onhow is it that EVERY day you have time to post on every board? are you getting free money from us tax payers then complaning about it all? before you ask i owen my owen biz that i started myself with NO help from anyone!
As well as a severe lack of education, huh?
Get a grade school child to check your spelling and grammar next time you write something Mr. Business Owner.
if you own a business then you would know how much you pay in taxes and wouldnt mind shooting the lot. I own a business and dont work very often because i dont need too. And i need a tax cut so i can play even more. lets put Obama in prison and save the middle class!!!
Obama really should be in prison!!!
All I can ask of the Tower guys is to watch our backs and shoot straight when necessary. If the inmates with the weapons don't want to listen to directives then that is the choice they made. The consequences are already known by the inmates in these situations. Thank you tower officers for watching our backs on the yard.
AMEN
Can't we just let the pharmaceutical companies use the inmates for human testing on their new drugs? I'm sure they would be willing to pay a pretty penny to experiment and that would help offset the exorbitant cost of the prison systems...
papa0s0,
Maybe we should let them experiment on you! Actually, it sounds like they already did!
Old dog, you sound like you would make for a better candidate - old and probably leeching off the system while you slowly wither away...
papaoso:
They already did something like this "in the old days." Documented it as well; no law suits that I know about.
Sarcastocus -
You speak truth. Let others snipe and insult, continue to speak the truth. They might eventually catch on, probably not . . .
Folsom is not a place to screw around in. If you start stabbing people, you very well may get shot. It is called consequences of your actions. Something very little of our population understands.
They need to get some of those Klingon Pain Sticks. That's how you manage unruly Ferengi.
Prison convicts should be given the right to smoke cigarettes, marijuana and prescriptions of valium when they want it in order to help keep them calm.
And you offer to unrwrite this grand paliative, yes?
As the late-great Johnny Cash said, maybe they heard the train a comin' and couldn't control their actions any longer.
Not all prisoners in there are violent or did violent crimes. If they have no other facility to house them they put lesser offenders in there. My brother was there because the lesser security prisons were full. He's an addict and I have nothing to do with him due to his unwillingness to change. He gets picked up for parole violations and they house him for a while in whatever facility is available. When he gets out he goes back to the drugs and homelessness he is used to and doesn't go see the parole officer. He gets picked up for vagrancy or something and back he goes. He's not a violent person and I don't think he should be shot.
Perhaps not, but how much value do you place on the life of a drunk driver who killed someone or a drug addict?...
IF all that is true, I would ask if he would be involved in the first place? The point is there are consequences to ones actions, for what ever reason. That is the problem with people now days, no sense of responsibility, morality or ethics. I'm not talking about religion, I'm talking about treating others as you wish to be treated.
I know one thing when your on death row your going not a private room with meals brought to you special nursing at your room eeveybody knows that right?? when you get sick and go to the infirmary you have to have special guard stay with that prisoner more money keep em alove so you can kill em really who the hell makes these rules??? ya know who aclu PLEase
