A $100,000 reward is being offered after a haul of art, vehicles and jewelry worth an estimated $10 million was stolen in a burglary in Santa Monica, Calif.
Several "high-end paintings," a red 2010 Porsche Carrera 4S, several expensive watches, wine and a "small amount" of cash were taken in the heist, police said.
The victim returned home from a trip on Sept. 14 to find that their home had been raided, according to Santa Monica police.

"We're looking for the public's help," said Sgt. Richard Lewis of the Santa Monica Police Department. "If they know anything about the crime, anybody trying to fence art, investigators are working any leads they can get while they work the leads they currently have."
Investigators say the alleged crime occurred in the 500 block of 12th Street sometime between 3 p.m. on Sept. 12 and 8 p.m. on Sept. 14.
Photographs of the stolen artwork along with the victim’s vehicle and descriptions of the watches are available on the Santa Monica Police Department's website.
The victim is offering the $100,000 reward.

WOW. People keep that kind of stuff in their homes? Just boggles my mind. People have that much laying around inside of their home? And the burglers stopped to take the time to steal wine? How about if information leads to an arrest that person gets their home paid off, a free cruise, meal at their favorite restaurant and kids college education?
inside job.
Of course, no one keeps this stuff outside! As for as the wine goes, well why not celebrate.
@Windancersong,
It's their money to do what they want with it. Yes, rich people keep paintings on their walls just like everyone else, only their paintings are real and cost a lot more. Besides, they shouldn't have to offer a reward. Their property should not have been broken into. Let's focus on the criminal and the fact that he/she broke into someone else's house and stole someone else's belongings. He/she should have their hands cut off so they don't steal ever again.
It doesn't matter how much money you have. Thieves are out there taking your prize possessions. Some possessions that have worth only to the owner yet just as important as a high dollar paintings. People are stealing and hurting others to fill their addictions and/or as part of gang related activities. Do what you can to protect yourself and help the police in curtailing crimes. DO YOUR PART, DON'T STICK YOUR HEAD IN THE SAND.
@Windancersong: I smell sour grapes, and that smell is coming from you! How sad and petty-minded is that!
Robbery is robbery is robbery, whether it's someone's high-end paintings or that crayon picture your kid made in kindergarten that you proudly displayed on your fridge. I hope that the thieves are caught, that they are prosecuted to the full extent of the law and that the people who were robbed don't have to pay a reward just to get their things back. As other posters have stated, crime is growing all over the country by leaps and bounds and something needs to be done about it. We all need to be vigilant.....the next victim could be you or me.
On a final note, I hope that you never have to experience someone breaking into your residence and stealing your possessions, regardless of what those possessions cost. Because a break-in and robbery totally destroys your sense of well-being and safety.
Exactly! Inside job. With all that money, you'd think they would have an alarm along with security cameras. They didn't mention this but they most likely did which makes it more of an inside job. They would have to know where they are, delete the film when inside and know the alarm code not to set it off.
This is another reason why you need to own guns because if they were home at the time, they most likely would've been killed. 10 million!
There are thugs out there that'll kill for 5 bucks.
Keep in mind that California has no interest in protecting its "citizens" it only cares about the rights of the criminally inclined.
"If I have worked for it, paid for it, its mine. If you try to steal what is mine I will take your life. Its a fair trade and you have just been given fair warning." ... Dr. Werner Betz
Not a bad haul.
Hard times, people desperate for money in CA, inside job, insurance fraud, collect lots of cash, and soon "go directly to jail".
Just for the record, that is one fugly painting/pic. I wouldn't give no more than $5 bucks for it at some yard sale, and would haggle with them to get it for $2.
John Q - I have no idea who Dr Werner Betz is, but don't you think his threat is rather draconian? If the thieves are caught who stole valuables from this Calif home, they should be severely prosecuted - all that the law allows. But I do not think one needs to threaten death because they lost a painting or a car or a bottle of wine. The reward that they offer is a nice incentive in these dark days of the recession. It also indicates how much they valued their lost possessions, and that's perfectly okay to feel that way.
Yeah, I doubt a $100,000 reward is going to be sufficient to get them to return the goods, now that the estimated $10 mil value of those goods has been advertised to the perps.
Maybe the thieves will be stupid enough to brag about it to someone who DOES want $100k.
how come you libs arent bitchen about this rich guy....or his tax returns..
I know this is harsh, but I think we should stop "jailing" these people.....maybe if we do like they do in the Middle East; i.e., cut off one hand for the first burglary; the second for the second offense....etc., people would think TWICE about robbing people's homes. I know we will never do that, but it almost sounds like we have to start doing something other than just putting them in jail for a couple of months!! Just my opinion.....not advocating this at all.
Sarita, I think the point behind that quote is: If you break into my home (and thereby threaten the safety and well being of my family) to steal my possessions, I'm going to protect myself and my family.
Lots of attacks happen when a burglar is accidentally "discovered" by someone in the middle of the night. Those things can turn dangerous very quickly and personally, I think it would help an awful lot if people knew there was a good possibility that there's an angry man protecting his family with a gun inside each house.
I'll go along with cutting their hands off, but better, the quote of Dr. Werner Betz. At least it solves the problem, they won't steal anything else.
This story was posted yesterday but the reward was only $1,000. 90% of the people were all saying insurance scam. Now today the reward jumped to $100,000. I'm sticking with insurance scam. I think the police should post that who ever is in possession of these items can still collect the reward with immunity if and only if they can prove that the home owners were involved in the scam. But indisputable proof must be presented to the homeowners involvement. $100,000 is probably twice as much as what could be received on street value.
Didi; by your rational - every war vet who lost a limb would be considered a thief by society...nice.
To the person who said this could have been done by someone needing to fill their addictions - man, you know some high end addicts...too much Miami Vice?
If the home owner fell on hard times - they probably had a friend do it so they could collect the insurance...Pawn World was only going to give them 10% of its value - while the deductible on the home owners insurance was only a fraction of that. Or I could be completely wrong - for which I will miss much sleep over...hahaha.
I guess gun owners never go anywhere - they just sit in the most strategic spot in the house, in their rocking chair - and just wait for bad guys....so do they get up to go to the bathroom or just have a Folgers can next to the rocker?
So, Dawgfan and Andy Blackwood, too!.....a little Sharia Law sounds good to you right here in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave, does it? What's the matter with you two?
"He/she should have their hands cut off so they don't steal ever again."
@Arieus
And while you were haggling I would step in and offer them 20 bucks and then turn around and make a cool couple hundred K for my effort. Wouldn't you feel foolish then?
I hope the wine is a good vintage!
It was Obama and his butt packing friends.
Sure sounds like someone knew what they were looking for.
Lots of good theories, insurance scam, inside job etc.
If not just a lucky score, those paintings are already in a private collection, as is the wine if it is vintage and rare. The car is in a thousand pieces and is being sold for 5 times its assembled value.
This is the future of Obama's America. As Obama continues to drive the hatred towards the rich, when he's re-elected (and he will be as America continues to dumb down and accept being slaves to government), there will be people feeling they are entitled to other people's property. As liberals say, the rich stole from the poor (I've never understood how socialist liberals can take away from zero or a negative number and get a positive number). In other words, if the poor have nothing and are taking income from other people through entitlements like welfare (part of that 47% that don't pay IRS income taxes that was the DEAD TRUTH), how can something be stolen from them? Liberal math.
Dang! That was one of my favorite paintings..."Blood in Stool."
LostFlorida: LOL!!!
One of those unique "media" type paintings.
Definately and inside job. Somebody who knew he wasn't going to be there, and such a short span of time. It's not as if the guy was gone for months, just 2 days.
Run the guy's credit report, and check to see if the Porsche is up for repo. He's probably cheating the insurance companies because he can't pay his bills.
Wind: I smell some jealousy. He is offereing a monetary award so the person who has the information can do as they please. Perhaps they don't care a trip. Perhaps they would need the money more.
For the poster who stated that people have expensive art on their wall. You probably go to Walmart or Target for your "art". This person has had the ability to have the real stuff.
As for other who said 100,000$ is too low. I bet you wouldn't snivel over it if you had information leading to an arrest . The owner was probably advised by his lawyer, or financial guy how much to offer.
I bet the cops can find the crook right inside the guy's personal phone book.
Those painting look as bad as the best Mexican spray paint art.
Should've spent $100,000 on a better security system.
Man, a fool and his money...........
Tim - 1491166 understands.
At Sarita Shires not Draconian in the least. It is more a mantra I live by now since being the victim of theft in California. There will not be a next time though.
A reward worth 1% of the value of the stolen goods. Sure 100k is good money but it seems a bit low. Consider how much money the investigation will cost and the police department's likelihood of success.
They shouldn't have to offer a reward at all. If anyone knows anything about the CRIME they should let the authorities know because its the right thing to do, not because of a reward.
and they need their cut.......................:)
I thought gratuity of 20% was the new standard....25% in New York.
True 1 percenter. Kinda brings a tear to one's eye?
You dont know how they earned their money. How about we all come to your house and steal your stuff? You have more than a lot of people in this world.
You go girl. Defend those one percenter. Oh is that you Ann Romney? Sorry.
I guess you would rather defend the criminals?
Even though, yes, it does kind of make someone slyly grin that it happened to some richass, they are the victims of a crime, so Impatient Girl is correct.
A civilized society cannot condone breaking into someone's home and stealing their possessions, no matter who the victim is. It has to be equal and fair protection for all under the law, or none for anyone.
wakani,
It sure does.........sniff, sniff..........boo-hoo, boo-hoo.
Poor 'girl' - must be so 'impatient' that she writes before thinking...
toredown
pot meet kettle
wakni...what has Ann Romney got to do with a theft in CA? Get you pathetic liberal mind on the subject.
wakni......your are obviously one of the 47 percent dependant on the government and are envious that a big portion of that stolen loot should have been confiscated by the government to fund a nice government check to hand over to you so that you can sit on your a$$ and post garbage about people who lead productive lives.
wakani, my 84 yr old inlaws are 1%'ers and I KNOW what they did, how hard they worked, what they sacrificed to save for their old age. And now, obama and people like you want to come after them because they are considered "lucky". Get off your ass to do what my inlaws did, get a job, save your money, do without. But no one wants to do that anymore. Instead, they think that the people that did do it owe society.
Wak-ani: I am a 1%. I am a WW2 vet. I worked 2 jobs until I started my own business. I hired people, paid them enough to keep them with me instead of leaving for someplace to go to work. I paid MY taxes, and I paid taxes on those I employed. (Basically what you pay, I had to pay too.) I PAID FOR my teams dental, and a LARGE part of their health-care. I also invested money into their retirement.
I worked my butt of for everything I got. Someone tries to take from me or mine - their GOD bills had better be paid because they are about to meet.
I never took from anyone anything I did not earn. I don't expect anyone to do that to ME. Want to talk about me paying for where I am today? Try to be a person of color, living and working in the 1950's and 60's. I paid for what I got out of this life, I am better for it, and so is my kids, grand kids, and great grand kids.
Sorry to everyone else, but some people just hack me off expecting something for nothing and acting like they are owed just because they were BORN here.
how do u know the home owners weren't part of the financial criminals that were never charged, i want to know how they earned their money, treat these people and judge them, like we judge union workers.
@Wolfman63-1253027
No apology needed.
Wolfman: What? You mean you worked your a$$ off, got ahead, hired people, didn't take anything from the government, took personal responsibility for your own life, and you're a person of color?
Don't you know you're not supposed to do that? You need the government to hold your hand and keep you in the lower class. Man, you've really got some nerve doing that.
Let me know when you're hiring. You're exactly the kind of person I like to work for.
wakani
What a complete simple minded Jack A$$ to
make that statement you SOB! You know if they took all the money in the world
and distributed it evenly to everyone around the world within 20 years.. The
same people would gain their wealth back.... and the poor minded fools would
have pissed it all away and end up angry about how unfair it is once again! Hay
how about this? You know that computer you’re typing on; well the people that
built it are in the top 1%! Revolt.. Throw that thing out the window and show
them all!
Porsche is being redistributed.
wakni...LOL! You think it ended up a a chop shop?
Your a moron. You don't have a clue of what Obama was talking about. Go and read the "Full" speech and you will get a real sense of what competitive marketing. You may get a clue why he even used the idea of some form of redistribution.
bobaloou, It should read You're a moron. As an Obama supporter you apparently are a moron that needs to get a clue!
Wakani
Thanks, best laugh I had all week.
Kim Stickell \I am an O-supporter and i found Wakani very funny.
yes, called recyclying.
I hate thives. I just hate them.
Mary, Mary. Get used to it. We in the business of redistribution.
Those nasty thives drive me crazy, too.
mary & toredown
so stop voteing for lawyers....................................:)
like romney
So you hate Government and the bankers that control them?
This was all part of Obama redistribute the wealth plan.. Cannot wait til my Porsche come.. I am hoping for black but beggars cannot be choosers..
make mine white...............
Why does everything have to be politicized? This is a robbery people....it has NOTHING to do with the government! Give me a break!!
Didi....whats wrong with redistribution....why does this surprise you.....we have a dead ambassador, dead marines and the obnozo regime can't take responsibility, Eric Holdup blames his staff and they get fired or dismissed and a 10 mill robbery isn't political ? It's what this social-marxist-commie-muslum administration does.......congrads yourself left-liberal-dumbocrats....this is normal for the left...don't be surprised for anything out of the ordinary. Wake up America......we are under attack !!
oh honestly, nniko. I just laughed so hard at your comment I have coffee coming out of my nose. Funniest thing I've read all day. Now I can face the piles in my inbox with good humor: i am a lib, maybe I could redistribute my work today! LMAO. Silly nniko!
all of that money and not a decent security system.
My thoughts exactly, how foolish can one be.
Most homes like the one that was robbed do have very sophisticated security systems. However, those are only as good as the people who are vigilant about using them. Many have them installed but never set them when they leave.
Yeah I thought that too... also, not to be rude, but if those paintings were mine, I would not miss them.
Sounds like somebody be ripping of their insurance company?
Most likely it is an inside job. In cali those of us who have things to protect get cameras that link to security offices that are off sight. This is common sense. These companies give one the option to bring in police or not at the sound of an alarm and investigation. In that neck of the woods that house would have had 50 cop cars and a few helicopters over it had this been a real robbery in about 3 minutes or less. Burgurlar alarms are done with mobile line back-ups so not to be cut. This is how some of the rich get richer. Most likely the painting is a fraud.
That seems very likely. The only time I have been ripped off, it was a cleaning service with a new employee.
Where were the reporters when my home was robbed 6 years ago, on Christmas Eve?
I'll tell you where - nowhere, because they didn't steal my porche, vintage wines and rare paintings.
And the police? Sure, they came - and one of them, just a few weeks later was arrested for murdering his girlfriend. And where was the news?
Covering stories about dried up old women protesting the opening of a new Adult Entertainment store.
So... I empathize with the victims, but their story isn't news.
Police can't prevent crime. They just take reports. GET A GUN.
You hit it on the nose Indigo Rage. The cops just don't care when someone steals a box of wine.
I wonder how many boxes of wine kate gosselin has stolen! She's a grifter, don't cha know!
@Arizona: Wow? Gee? Is that all it takes? Oh, except, guess what the @ssholes stole? Yeah, a Colt Trooper .357, two Browning .50 rifles, and they attempted to steal an H&K PSG1-A1, but could not figure out how to remove the double lock, so they smashed the front of the display and twisted the scope half off of it.
See, a gun does no good when you're not actually at home to use it to blow a hole in some piece of $hit that doesn't belong there. And since we private citizens, even those with FFL's are not permitted to have automated turrets in our residences, having all the guns in the world isn't any help.
Even all these years later, none of my collection has turned up at pawn shops or been reported as used in a crime. I keep hoping some dumb piece of $hit tries to fire the Trooper, as there's a plug 3/4 the distance down the barrel... I will laugh so hard when some dumb $hit blows off their hand and arm.
@Dave: And you hit the edge of it and bent the nail... cops DO care if someone steals even a bottle of Chateau Brion, 1942 from the Mayor, or the Governor, or any of the rest of the 1%. It's normal, everyday citizens, the 47% Mitt Rmoney doesn't care about - the hard working, extinction-fighting middle class they don't care about.
@luke: Aside from the obvious What-Does-Kate-Gosselin-have-to-do-with-anything, I'd ask if you're not going to actually contribute to the thread, don't post in it.
I guess the kids won't get any Christmas presents this yr. unless they dip into their stock account. You just try to have a nice family vacation in ST. Barts and this is what happens.
yep....how dare they have money.... greedy bastards..............:)
Why would these people not have someone living in the house with that much valuables? If you can afford a $100,000 reward, you could have hired someone to babysit the house.
Sounds like the door was left wide open.
Looks like the 1% just got smaller, the insurance company will pay, and the 99% of the rest of us will end up paying higher premiums for all our average paintings, fake jewelry and non German cars.
You sound like a typical grumpy PhD -- bitter that whatever "specialty" you studied is incapable of generating wealth. Smells like a gangrenous 'self-inflicted wound' to me.
"10mil was stolen but we will give you 100k if you snitch" cough up 2 mil and ill personally bring all your stuff back and leave it gift wrapped in the porsche out in front of your house also being cheap with the reward makes you look like a snobby douchebag who thinks that money in paltry amounts is motivation to a robber of this calibre maybe to a crack head or a poor person but this guy probably doesnt hang out with trash like that
Derpy. Ritto. Let 'em eat cake.
Why should they even offer a penny? They'll get the funds from their insurance company. It's the insurance company that should be offering a reward and substantially more than the $100K being put out there. The fact the victim is offering the reward indicates there's sentimental value attached to the items missing not just the desire to get money from their insurance.
But continue to be jealous of those who have more than you.
voter...some things have more sentimental value than monetary. I had something stolen from my yard that cost just less than $100.00, but it was a gift from my godchild. It meant more to me than $1,000.00!
Voter -
You thought before you posted!! Good job, but not likely to be appreciated by the trolls.
So people rejoice when bad things happen to the rich now. I guess the greedy envious people have gone even lower.
Derpy and Wakani - you're both real pieces of work, aren't you? Have nice lives.
MrBurns--
Most of the people "rejoicing" are those who bust their ass everyday so the rich can live the way they live. seriously...who wants a paiting/paintings worth millions? IF money is no object to them, they should have used it wisely--helping others. not only that...should offer a bigger reward that 100,000. Thats a slap in the face considering the amount of valuables taken.
sarita you must enjoy having your money taken by rich people all the time i buy local and i dont shop at walmart cause those poor people in china that get paid 4 dollars a day to work like slaves being beaten for not working if you wanna see how evil walmart actually is watch walmart the high cost of low prices they drive small town shops out of business and keep their employees impoverished i think it was somethinglike 90% of walmart employees are threatened with unemployment if they dont work extra hours off the clock and rediculous @!$%# like that
What, all that and no security alarm? BTW, my 2, 6, and 8 year olds can replace 8 of the 10 paintings shown on the police report!
Since all the elite are buying up gold and silver, art has taken some serious hits. This way they get the insurance money to buy gold.
Somehow I don't have much sympathy when one of the 1% gets robbed. They rob the American Treasury (and thereby their fellow citizens) every day using their sneaky accountants and tax loopholes.
All legal and you can take advantage of those same tax codes to pay less. Think about it. If you could pay less taxes wouldn't you? After all, it's your money that you earned. Shouldn't you be able to enjoy it and not have it given to someone who doesn't do a darn thing to earn it?
You're what's wrong with this country today. Jealousy is an ugly trait which is made worse when all you do about it is whine instead of exerting some effort to improve your lot in life yourself.
I can't believe that homesick actually said that. That attitude is ruining country today. I take every deductiion I can. I save all my receipts and work on my taxes for hours. Jealousy will eventually eat you alive. I am retired but still pay federal income taxes and state. The way my hard earned money is wasted on programs like Solyndra I do not feel guilty. Just this week the new incentive (bailout) money for energy Obama sent to China for production of solar panels...ALL OF IT! Kind of like the car money going to Finland. So people TAKE EVERY DEDEUCTION YOU CAN!
I dont believe its "jealousy" I believe its hate. To be honest, the lower income citizens bust their ass every day so the rich can live the way they live. TRUTH!
Until you have been to the lowest point in your life, working any kind of job to get ahead..and still have nothing to show for it...DONT SAY @!$%#!
It was obviously a government job, pulled by Obama's crew in their new program to "spread the wealth".
This is exactly what Obama means by "Taxing the Rich" .....
At least you know this was not an "inside job" - Otherwise, he would have kept the Porche ----
A 1%-er heard a knock at his door and opened it to find a 49%-er standing there.
"Excuse me sir" said the 49%-er "Do you'se have any odd-jobs or woik that needs doin'?"
The 1%-er felt bad for the 49%-ers plight and told him "Yes, actually there is something you can do for me. I need to paint my porch but I don't have time. You'll find a couple cans of paint and some brushes in the garage".
Later there was a knock at his door, and the 49%-er was there. "All done?" he asked him.
"Yep" said the 49%-er, "You'se had lots of extra paint so when I was done wit yer porch I painted yer ferrari too."
That is the stupidest joke I've ever read. Why do you think the 49% would talk that way? Are you trying implying that poor people are ignorant?
Agree, Donna - Patrook is an idiot and devoid of any real humor.
Heh - just having fun with J matt's spelling, and I ended up scoring troll points !
Win !
100K reward eh?
tell ya what, if you deliever that stuff or tell ME where it is I'll give you a cool million....................:)
If a bank got robed for $10,000 I'm sure they report $100,000 to the insurance company. I'm sure the homeowners know exactly where it's all at. even the Porsche is all scraped and the parts with vin#s are being melted as we type.
I don't condone criminal activity but I do hope that maybe this family will learn something from having several layers ripped off of their insulation from the "regular" world.
Maybe now they'll know how it felt when the majority of this country got ripped off by the greedmeisters of Wall Street and beyond.
At the very least, let them experience the awful presence of "inconvenience."
@knitwit-405528
...since it was a rich person I'll gloat about it nonetheless.
Right, because everyone that got rich, did it by screwing over someone else. Back to your hole, knitwit troll.
Perhaps they should have invested it with Obama in his $528,000,000 Solynium business..... On second thought, there is more of a chance to get the money back from the burglars.
Wow, this is a huge score!! If it's OK with the community, I would like to share an article that might be helpful to readers on how to better protect your home from a burglar:
Burglar Reveals 15 Trade Secrets - A Look Into The Mind of a Burglar
Feel free to share or re-post!
Must be democrats, NBC would not bother to help anyone else. The artwork is crap.
Something's not right with the estimated value of the items stolen. The article claims $10M total, but in the video, the victim says one particular painting (the simple one with rectangular sections in white and red) is worth $15M -- geez, my niece can paint that a 100 times over for him for $100K ... all with her left foot.
Anyway, sorry to hear of this burglary; he should have had paid for home security at a fraction of the price of this (inflated) loss. In the end, everyone else pays for this crime, including the non-1-percenters. My lack of pity for him isn't because he is seemingly rich (for all I know, he could have earned it by working very hard, which I truly respect), but because it appears he didn't have the common sense to protect his valuables.
There is no-common sense anymore.
The bigger question to me is: Why would an insurance company insure items this valuable without requiring the owner to have an alarm system? Something isn't right here.
Sh!t, the victim is probably broke now!!
