The bottom line was that if you took all the people who voted for McCain and subtracted the ones who, based on exit polls, cited race as the primary reason they voted for McCain, then Obama would have won the 2004 election by the largest landslide since Georgr Washington, who ran unopposed.

Much of this election is being driven by race thinly disguised as ultra right-wing radical extremist Tea Party nonsense. And Obama will win again. 538 is currently giving him a 75.2% chance of winning to Romney's 24.8% --- over 3 to 1 odds. Not a sure thing, but certainly where the smart money is being bet.

Yes we do, I think the symbolism is despicable. I may disagree with the current presidents policies and actions, but I want him removed from office by losing the election, not by violent means. If he wins, then I hope the downward slide does not continue, but I fear our children's and grandchildrens future will be pretty bleak.

And, I am going to tell you something else. My aunt was the 1st white teacher to agree to teach in a black school when I was small. All of a sudden, one day, she and my uncle and cousins moved out of state. I did not understand why. My Mom tried to explain that men had run my cousin and her boyfriend off the road into the ditch at high speeds and put a gun to their face. And, that a cross had been burned in my aunt's front yard. I said, 'That is dumb. Why would anyone burn a cross in a yard. Did the fire department put the fire out? Is the fire still going?'

I was not allowed to say my aunt's name out loud or the state they moved to when we went to my Grandmother's. I was scared to speak. I did not understand why I was scared to speak, except that I knew everyone else was on edge. We could not go out of the yard and play. An adult always stayed outside with the kids while we played. I was insulted and felt like I was being treated like a baby.

I grew up, obviously, to be a Democrat. I have voted Democrat my entire life. And, now because of many things I see going on ... including the media trying to constantly divide people ... I AM TIRED OF IT!

And, I changed to Unaffiliated within the past year. It was not an easy choice. BUT, I AM TIRED OF THE DIVISIVENESS. Not okay! Not acceptable! We were coming so close to equality and to give it all away to government now instead of people feeling what it is like to be independent ... not with my vote.

You have McCain and Obama mixed up. The US did NOT give weapons to the rebels in Libya despite Republican calls, led by John McCain, to do so. Obama and the State Depart well knew that the "eastern tribes" (the ones who overthrew Ghadaffi) were second only to Yemen in supplying "foreign fighters" to al-Quaeda. Just look at the noms de guerre for al-Quaeda's leaders. Many of them were called something "al-Libi" which means "from Libya." It was Romney/McCain and the radical right who wanted to arm the rebels. Obama only supplied logistical and air support --- NO WEAPONS.

And despite Romney's screwing up the facts of the Libyan Ambassador's death, you are 180 degrees wrong. The consulate in Benghazi was due to open a new cultural center when they received word that there would be protests at the opening that could turn violent. The ambassador took several people with him to Benghazi to evacuate US workers and contractors back to Tripoli where the embassy is. The ambassador told his staff that it was a good opportunity to monitor their reaction to protests since Benghazi is in an area controlled by the eastern tribes, and to test out their evacuation procedures, and if the protests turned out to be nothing, he would already be in Benghazi for the cultural center opening. The last was important because the State Department people in Libya and other countries do not like to make the travel plans for ambassadors known for security reasons. Your rant is mostly lies!

I live in Alabama where people assume if you are older (I'm 68) and white that your agree with their racism. We have two senators (lowercase intentional) --- one was a member of the KKK and a major supporter of the Aryan Nation (Sessions) and the other (Shelby) never makes a speech without reminding his audience that his family once owned 170 slaves. Both use the "rebel flag" (not any of the three flags of the Confederacy) on campaign literature. They want everyone to know that they are haters just like them.

This is exactly the kind of thing, however, that is destroying the Republican "brand" and replacing it with a brand consisting only of poorly educated older white fundamentalist christian men. That is not enough of the population to elect anyone to national office. Not only will Romney lose on Nov 6th, but it is likely that the GOP will effectively split into three parties: one with a radical right wing extremist political platform, one that will essentially be an extension of the "Know Nothing" Libertarian Party, and one that can be a home to moderate Republicans such as Bob Dole and George Romney. If the GOP fragments, it simply hands all national elections to the Democrats for free.

Harry Reid (D) is one reason I left the Democrats. Harry Reid alone kept bills from even being voted on in the Senate. So, if you want to blame someone, blame Reid. I was not allowed to say my aunt's name out loud or the state they moved to when we went to my Grandmother's. I was scared to speak. I did not understand why I was scared to speak, except that I knew everyone else was on edge. We could not go out of the yard and play. An adult always stayed outside with the kids while we played. I was insulted and felt like I was being treated like a baby.

I grew up, obviously, to be a Democrat. I have voted Democrat my entire life. And, now because of many things I see going on ... including the media trying to constantly divide people ... I AM TIRED OF IT!

I say this all the time. It cracks me up that some people, including a lot of libbies, are so desperate to qualify Obama as black or African American. He may look black, but it doesn't make it so. I think this story is to help get the focus of the complete failure of the administration to protect our ambassador and citizens in Libya on 9-11-12. Our government was warned by the Libyan president that an attack was likely and they did nothing. They tried to spin it as a protest that got out of hand, but there was not protest it was a planned attack and it is sad to say the Libyan government has been more believable than our own. This is bad and the press doesn't want to cover this, why? Why do they run a story about a couple of people who hung chairs in protest to the way the president is running the country? If the metaphorical lynching were based solely on race, then you would be correct to cry racism. However, as an expression of extreme dissatisfaction with the actions/policies/deeds of a political figure, it isn't racism. Your crying "racism" at something for which there is no reasonable basis to make such a claim suggests that you do not, in fact, know racism when you see it. It would seem that you just see it everywhere, even in places it doesn't exist!

It's more racist of you to cry "racism" where it doesn't exist than it is for people to treat politicians equally based on the content of their performance. When a symbol requires this much explanation before we can all be shocked by the racism involved, I think it's fair to assume the perpetrators didn't put as much thought into their actions as NBC put into explaining those actions. I haven't forgotten, and neither has Bush. Funny thing about Bush though, there are/were LEGAL threats against his life for war crimes. His administration was well aware that they would be violating the Geneva convention when going to war in Iraq and carrying out certain actions (e.g. bombing a hospital, which is illegal even in a war), but I don't think they cared and/or were more concerned with their own agenda. As far as I remember, the calls to "kill Bush" were calls to have him prosecuted and executed for crimes committed (including mass murder of civilians) under his direction.

Bush and Cheney are of course well aware of the "warrants" out for them and that is why they will probably never visit certain countries.

1981-83 Reagan tried the "trickle-down" concept, or Voodoo Economics, and he ended up balancing the tax code, because we were bleeding out money.

1993 H.W. Bush tried the Trickle-down concept again, and even though he was quoted as saying "NO new Taxes" he ended up raising taxes again after Desert Storm.

W. did it again with "Supply side" and destroyed our economy, because again, we were bleeding out money.

It failed all three times. The two previous presidents were smart enough to revamp the tax code before the country fell into quasi-depression, but W. Bush wasn't. It has been proven again and again, if you give the wealthy money, they only increase their portfolio.

It is the racists who see EVERYTHING as being tied to race, and then see racism in everything as a consequence. When people start claiming that the employment of something that has been a standard tool of political dissent for centuries--regardless of race--is somehow suddenly a "racist" action in and of itself, then it's time to look hard at the people making the claim of racism, not at the people employing the tool.

Public symbols communicate a message, like burning the American flag, or burning an effigy of the President. They're doing a lot of that in the Middle East, right now, they're praying for DEATH to the ENTIRE NATION that harbors the troll that created that grade-b movie about Mohammed. Don't you see? Certain symbols can MOTIVATE undereducated onlookers to commit violent acts, and that was exactly the intent of the HATERS that created and publicly displayed those symbols placed out in the open. Just as yelling fire in a crowded theater is illegal, if even one publicly symbol of intolerance inspires criminals to mayhem and attempted murder, then it is no longer "freedom" of speech, when it becomes a vehicle maliciously designed to motivate people to infringe upon the rights of others, namely the right to the preservation of their lives and property without malice or the willful intent to do so.

I don't think every criticism of the president is tantamount to racism. Whatever my personal beliefs are about each candidate, they are both right about at least one thing in this race - it is a decision between to very divergent visions on what is the best path for the future of the country. Disagreement with either candidate based upon policy or their vision is perfectly understandable and acceptable. However, when people use racial, religious, or ethnic grounds on which to base their hatred, or use those same stereotypes when voicing their dislike of a candidate - then that shows discrimination and/or racism at play. This hanging of chairs may just be a way to vent and dramatically portray dissatisfaction, but it is a farily obvious allegory to lynching - overtly racist at worst, inappropriate at best. No president or candidate, Romney and Obama included, should be subjected to such a vitrolic message of hatred.

In my opinion, both sides of the aisle need to calm down. Honest disagreement and discourse are required for effective government...the sputtering, salivating hatred voiced by supporters and detractors on both sides...not so much. All it does is serve to further increase the divide in this country. And that benefits no one.

In the end it says more about the person perpetrating the acts than anything else. In the case of the chair hangers, I think it is an expression of frustration at having picked a horrible candidate, who is not representative of their values, whom they don't like or trust, and who is losing the election to a hated figure. Their actions voice the frustration of realizing that the N__— (their word judging by their actions) will be occupying the white house for four more years because the moron they picked is letting the election slip away.
