Subscribe to RSSTwo fighter jets scrambled over central New Jersey after two aircraft violated airspace restrictions in place because of the United Nations General Assembly meeting.
North American Aerospace Defense Command spokesman John Cornelio said the F-22s intercepted the small civilian planes during two separate incidents over central New Jersey around 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Cornelio says the pilots did not respond to the radio and were forced to land at Central Jersey Regional Airport in Hillsborough. According to an airport representative who would not provide her name to NBCNews.com, both planes left the airport shortly after landing.
It was unclear if the pilots were detained.

FAA spokesman Jim Peters says the temporary no-fly zones were established around the New York City metropolitan area because of the U.N. meeting.

Pilots licensse revoked or suspended would be a start.
Having UN meetings on a boat in the middle of the Atlantic would be a better start.
In this day and age, no excuses.
Unless they had an emergency, and even then they had to be aware of the zones as a part of flight planning. If not, they should not be flying at all.
They need probing to ensure they understand the seriousness of the threats to the USA.
A good start would be to require recreational (sport) flyers to file a flight plan. They will immediately whine that the airport they are taking off from has no provision for filing a flight plan. They can file with FAA by phone or internet. If they did file they would be informed of Notices to Airmen (NOTAMS) which would include Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs). TFRs can include potential terrorist targets such as the President or the UN assembly. They then could have avoided this problem and the taxpayers could have avoided the expense.

They can check for NOTAMS and TFR'S without having file a flight plan if they are simply going VFR. Their licenses should be suspended, at least temporarily.
Funny though how they could scramble jets so quickly on this occasion, however, during 9/11 with far more advance notice, they couldn't get a single fighter to intercept? Hmm makes you wonder doesn't it?

Sorry Nibor, but flying below minimums is not the same as flying into Temporary Flight Restrictions airspace. It is not restricted airspace, you just are not supposed to fly within 1000' vertically and 2000' horizontally of any building in a congested area.

Al - My thoughts exactly. Do these guys even read what they type up in these articles?? Wait did I really ask that? Anyways had they said "it was unclear if the pilots were detained however a spokesperson for the airport did say that the planes left a short time later" would seem to make a little more sense though still a little odd.
Whatever the case though these guys didn't answer their radio calls at which point I'm sure if they would've they would just have been told to change course no big deal but they didn't so their fault (I'm not a pilot but I believe there are daily updates about restricted and temp restricted areas that one can check out on FAA website or something before heading up). But in saying that did they need to force them to land? The fighter jet on your a$$ wasn't enough to get the point across? I dunno I guess it just annoying anymore how things like this assembly create all these rules and security restrictions and disrupt the lives of the average American citizens. Kind of like when president comes to town and he has to have the crazy motorcade everything shuts down, tough cookies for us peons, and anyone and everyone is a threat first citizen second. Things like that just bug me. Oh well back to work.

Please refer to #1.3. Private pilots flying Visual Flight Rules (VFR) are not required to file a flight plan with the FAA. I'm sure the 2 pilots were briefly detained and determined to not be a threat.

Air space violations occur all the time. As long as the pilots listen, and get out of the restricted area quickly, nothing happens. But, if they do not get out of the restricted space promptly they will get detained upon landing and will lose their license. I know someone who lost their license because they did not heed the warning to get out of a restricted air space.
They were probably clueless civilian pilots who had no idea there was even a restriction.
The cost of being clueless could be the result of death. IGNORANCE is no excuse for breaking the law!! Shoot them down!!

They have probably flown in that area hundreds/thousands of times & were unaware of the "temporary" restrictive airspace. That would explain why they were immediately released.

Those who do not believe a plane hit the pentagon on 9/11 (no one saw a plane, FBI too the film from the convenience store across the street immediately---one man - veteran- said he saw a missile) believe the plane the government (ah that would be GW Bush) said hit the pentagon was escorted to the ocean and shot down, thereby killing all the Americans on board.
There was no plane parts on the lawn (hard to figure), no luggage, nothing...and only about a 16 ft hole in the pentagon wall. Hmmmm.

seriously i have heard that there werent any signs of the plane before and its not true, there was a jet engine and a lot of other debris, the thing that was peculiar was that they were able to bring that plane into the building like that. thats a once in a lifetime shot

two members of my immediate family were involved with cleanup at the pentagon crash scene, more than 30 tons of metal plane bits, some as large as a pickup truck were hauled to a secure area of Quantico. NTSB. FAA and FBI techs worked over a year trying to recover DNA and other physical evidence.
a lot of the aircraft was burned and destroyed but one nearly intact engine and a lot of the titanium alloy parts were excavated from the site. some hunks were 30 feet deep. so much for "doctored videos" and convoluted conspiracy talk.

Bush had taken the power to shoot hijacked aircraft away from NORAD one month before 9/11 and gave it to cheeney only who let the third plane hit the pentagon and over 800 military personell were allowed to die so we would attack Iraq. I know a person who did forensics on the Pentagon. It was a plane. Jet fuel burns all over the place.
Where are the wing marks on the structure. NONE. A jet that big would have caused much more damage. The reports just don't solidify the claim. I have an extensive background in explosives and their cliam just doesn't make sense

I hadn't read about bush taking power from NORAD to shoot hijacked planes. Thanks for posting. I thought jets were in the air just before the PA crash. But then, it was a few minutes before they realized it did crash. Someday it will all come out but it will have much less impact, like any other horrendous tragedy. Bush/cheney are criminals, and their whole troop.

It easy to inadvertently violate a TFR. Non pilots don't get it. Why should they? But why do they have such strong emotional opinions and are so willing to express opinions on subject they know nothing about.
How is that, they are broadcast to the aircraft individually. NO EXCUSES. Shot them down!! When one files a flight plan, the info is available. No EXCUSES!!! Shoot them down!!
No Harold, the data in not always available when you file a flight plan. Do you know the purpose of a flight plan? You don't know how aviation radios work do you? Glad a reactionary like you does not make policy.
I believe the airport in question is Kupper airport and not sure if it's in Hillsborough or Manville. But the airport is tiny. And a good 40 miles from Manhattan. This area is has some rural parts but in others densely populated with condo, townhouses, and apartments. I'm sure that it created quite a stir....
