92 dogs abandoned along country roads in Texas, police say

Ninety-two dogs were abandoned along country roads in Denton County, Texas, over a period of two nights. KXAS's Scott Gordon reports.

The Humane Society of North Texas is offering a $500 reward for information on who dumped 92 dogs along country roads in Denton County Monday and Tuesday nights.

Police in Flower Mound found 51 Maltese mixed-breed dogs late Monday night along a country road near Highway 377 and Stonecrest Road.

Then, late Tuesday night, 41 dogs -- mostly Cavalier King spaniels -- were found along a rural road near Sanger.

The Humane Society believes both cases are related -- probably the operators of a puppy mill who no longer want to breed the animals under a strict new state law.

"Unfortunately, there are a few of these really bad breeders who know they're not going to pass inspections and are trying to get out of the business fast," said Peggy Brown, coordinator of community outreach and education for the Humane Society.

The dogs rescued in Flower Mound are being housed in that city's animal shelter.

All of the animals are filthy and may have lived under horrible conditions.

"Unfortunately, with a lot of these puppy mill dogs, their feet may have never touched the ground," Brown said. "They could have spent their whole lives in cages."

Volunteers will bathe the animals in the next few days before putting them up for adoption.

"It's really heartbreaking," Brown said. "Hopefully, we can change their lot in life and give them a better future than their past has been."

Anyone interested in adopting the dogs can contact the Humane Society of North Texas in Fort Worth at 817-332-HSNT or the city animal shelter in Flower Mound at 972-874-6390.

Do they not know that a Animla Control officer will take there pet away and GAS IT!!!!!....Stupidity in San Fernando Valley!!!!

How horrible. People absolutely disgust me. This story is heart breaking, how can somebody look at these poor, defenseless creatures and treat them like complete garbage? I seriously cannot stand the human race anymore.

I am so disgusted with most people these days!!!!!!!!! Animals have more brains and empathy than the IDIOTS who did this!!!!!!!!!!! I suggest when they are found, they be made to be in a euthanasia room and see the results of their indescriminate breeding. The animals who were dumped did not deserve this. Thank GOD there are loving and caring people who do have a soul.

i hope they find who did this and put them in a cage for a long time. although more than likely the law only allows a slap on the wrist and a fine. anyone who treats an animal this way especially ones they have 'breed' and brought into this world deserves no mercy in my book.. i hope these dogs fine good homes..

I pray they find these idiots. What a loathsome thing to do! To anyone thinking of adopting one of these dogs, DO IT! We adopted a puppy mill Cocker Spaniel that the woman was going to euthanize because he had outlived his usefulness for her purposes. Luckily, she called a rescue group for another dog and they took Joey, too. He only barks in his sleep because when the dogs barked the witch would bang on their cages with a broomstick. He was timid when we first got him, but now he is the king. He even learned to play with his GSD sister. He figured out if he got on the couch, he was the same height as her. He has been a source of great joy and many laughs. He is such a happy dog now. Everyone loves him. He is so full of love. Please don't hesitate to adopt one - even the older ones. Joey was nine when we got him, and I will do it again, one day. Hopefully not for a few years though.

Utterly heartbreaking. I have rescued two dogs and both of them have been the kindess pets I've ever had! If I lived in Texas I would have taken another one. I hope they find those bastards and end their business for good. How can people be so evil towards animals? Like they can stand up for themselves...

I think the $500 should be given the two shelters to take care of these dogs - HELLO - the dogs did not ask to be born and puppymill bred out! Please! It is horrible!

This is just one more reason why I wish I could win the Lotto.....I wish I could give money to places like these who care for animals. I so believe in no kill shelters, all animals programs, and just the care of all earth creatures. Some of us humans are just worthless trash, and laws need to change to protect this all some forgiving animals.

I hope they can find good homes for them, and I really hope that they will not be killed because of some stupid human greed.

How anyone could look a dog in the eyes, see the trust and unconditional love a dog is capable of and do the horrific things that happen daily to these animals is beyond understanding. There is little difference between beating/harming a dog or a young child. Anyone who would do something like this should be on permanent probation as they are quite possibly capable of anything. A baseball bat also comes to mind as a barely adequate karma instrument.

Just don´t Chinese or Korean people to know about this; otherwise they will claim all of them for adoption, for the solely purpose of cooking them during winter.

DON'T BUY YOUR PET!!!!! Go to the Humane Society instead. The more people that DON'T buy pets, will create less puppy mills. What happens to the puppies that aren't sold in a puppy mill? Or they reach adulthood and are no longer wanted? Makes me sick to think about.

Dog rescues are no more than arrogant hoarders. I will get my dogs from breeders and not mess with the lot of the bunch who think they are the only ones who can care for a dog.

There should be requirement that humans must have a license to own a pet or kids.

I volunteer with a cat rescue and the same, even worse deplorable acts are done on cats. Things such as, purposely blinding them, shooting at their limbs so they become crippled, dumping them in dumpsters when they are tiny kittens and other horrendous acts that are beyond one's imagination. Until the law demands equal rights for all animals, these freaks will go on doing these terrible things to animals. I hope these scums are caught and made to live like they made those animals live. Or, go to prison where they are locked up with an animal lover.

No one believes you WeAllHaveOpinions, you are pretty obviously a breeder who does not want her income messed with. Sorry 'bout ya- the world is changing and people as a whole obviously want animals to be treated with kindness and respect.

I am a rescuer and not a hoarder, and no one I have ever met in rescue wants a world without companion animals. Go spew your crap on the AKC website.

Poor dogs. Maybe the perp should be kept in a cage non stop for several years then turned lose in a desert, hundreds of miles from civilization. let them fend for themselves.. LOL jerks..

            mr

I would say that inbreeding played a huge role in your home with a comment like that.

You should tell mom and dad that brothers and sisters should not have sex. A bit late in your case though.
