Porn site seeks new breast cancer charity after Susan G. Komen rejects fundraising offer

A pornographic website that said it launched a fundraising effort for and was adamantly rejected by Susan G. Komen for the Cure still wants to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The porn site said in a press release that it is now looking for a new charity for its “Save the Boobs” campaign throughout October.

The adult website said it would donate 1 cent for every 30 views of certain videos featuring breasts during October.

The website initially targeted the campaign at Susan G. Komen for the Cure, saying that “the more boobs that are viewed, the more money that will be showered upon the [Foundation].”

But the Dallas-based organization said Wednesday that it was aware of the campaign and wanted nothing to do with it. “We are not a partner, not accepting donations, and have asked them to stop using our name,” Komen said.

Now the website is searching for a new organization, the porn site said Thursday, to receive a “significant” amount of money.

“Unfortunately we had to change our targeted beneficiary,” a site spokesman told NBC News.

The site specified that “any charitable entities related to breast cancer research or awareness should submit their interest” to the website. One charity will be chosen and announced in the coming days.

The site said in its press release that it attracts 70 million to 90 million clicks per month and could raise a "considerable" amount of money. The website said the campaign had already amassed millions of views.

This isn’t the first time the porn site has tried to raise awareness for breast cancer. Earlier this year, the website offered free breast exams for women from its “Save the Boobs” bus in New York.

The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and affiliated events had raised more than $1.4 billion as of 2010, the company says.

I guess their money isn't good enough. Either that or this nonprofit doesn't realize how much money they stand to take in.

"We are not a partner, not accepting donations, and have asked them to stop using our name,"

When did the site say they were "partners"?

Oh, you're "not accepting donantions"... or just not from a business you think you are too good for?

If I plan to donate is O.K. for me to say your name?

Clearly the management at Komen has decided that their personal self-righteousness is more important than the people affected by the treatment/research they are supposed to be funding.

OR this non-profit knows only too well that in short order, they would be castigated for taking porno money, and the other donors would pull out.

I don't think that is the case. How on earth would a women's health organization condone women selling their bodies for porn to be something they can support? For money.......wow.

A local radio station was very successful raising new toy donations for kids at Christmas. The spin off of Toys for Tots was called Toys for Tits and it targeted the younger male population who would not normally get involved. You bought your new toys and dropped them off to a site to be greeted beautiful stripper giving you a special hug.

People need to get past the moral sterotypes and get the help to people who need it the most.

Take the money! Unless you can show that the "actresses" in these films are being forced to work in this profession, it is their CHOICE to do so, no matter that both Fundamentalists and Feminists view women as helpless children who can't make CHOICES themselves about their professions and lifestyles. I fail to see how some extremists' twisted view of "principles" justifies the Komen people from accepting what might turn out to be quite a lot of money that could help quite a lot of women.

Komen is a corrupt organization that pays huge amounts in salary and perk to their execs. Maybe 23 cents on the dollar actually get donated to the cause and that goes to the backscratchers that kiss their ass. Don't take my word for it, Google it. There are many more worthier breast cancer orgs out there than Komen.

You might be on to something Steve. What a bunch of pretentious "do-gooders", makes me almost hope their foundation goes down the proverbial toilet. I am a cancer survivor myself (testicular - Stage II) and have drawn a lot of strength and support from the Livestrong foundation. Despite the "bad publicity" that Lance Armstrong has received lately, the organization is as strong as ever. Its a shame that Komen seems to be so uptight and thin skinned when it comes to their publicity, and I for one feel that they could use a better role model that is willing to reach out for help from ANYONE willing to contribute.

P.S. Pornstars are affected by Cancer (even breast cancer) too. I would encourage ANY porn site that wants to get involved to donate to the Livestrong foundation. I can guarantee they wouldnt turn the money down, and it would actually go to cancer research and not get imbezzled by some right wing whackjob, trying to push some other agenda.

Obama would take the money!

In fact, significant portion of his campaign strategy was based on development of strategic alliances with many of the most godless and morally debased segments of our society in a thinly veiled effort to secure votes from those "the Obama administration believes" to be one dimensional, intellectually compromised, single issue constituencies. Some of those morally bankrupt segments have attacked Komen in the past as a result of Komen's high moral standards.

Interestingly, just when I personally thought Obama could not become any more morally corrupt, I learned he has made yet another Faustian deal with the devil. In this case, he has appointed the
"King Of Gay Pornography" to his campaign finance committee, patted him on the back and told him to keep up the good work, but that is what we have come to expect when morally bankrupt liberals are in charge of anything!

We raised a good bit of money on the Komen website when my mother died of breast cancer.

Komen should reconsider this decision.

Pornography is not evil. A lot of it is perversion but, that is a reflection of our sexual repression, which makes any depiction of sexuality that is not perverted seem to us to be "not sexy". That could change over time if the shame and guilt about sexual desire were eliminated, but deciding not to take this donation is motivated by that same guilt and shame and just helps to perpetuate it.

Blessing to mothers and breast cancer patients, may you be well, happy, calm, peaceful.

Komen is a scam just like most of these charities. Before I donate I want to know how much each of the 20 highest paid employees of your organisation make a year.Too many of these charities are formed to give the people who start them with 2-3 hundred thousand dollar a year jobs. Check it out you'll be shocked at the pay packages and expense accounts and travel expenses.

I would've been ok if Planned Parenthood said - we don't accept money because of women's exploitation in porn industry or something like that. But it seems like planned parenthood is concerned about their image and I just don't understand how come "working women" - although porn work - is an image problem. This holier than thou attitude is pathetic. Almost everybody watches porn someday. So why this hypocracy?

I don't know if the porn site is serious or just doig this for some quick and easy publicy - But if they are serious -- the owners of the site could still donate money to this or any other cause or charity privately under their own names. On one hand, you would think that the Komen organization would welcome and accept money from whoever would be willing to donate it to the cause -- but on the other hand the public perception of accepting money from a porno site (as other already said here) might have a negative impact on their public image. Their is a code of moral conduct they most large organization try to live up to -- no so much in the adult entertainment business. We hope that everyone who is "empoyed" in the business are of legal age, are safe, ,healthy and being well paid for their efforts -- but unfortunately --this industry has a dark under current of crime, drugs, abuse and forced labor as well. An "upstanding' charity wants to avoid being associated with such a situation -- even if the money might be good and useful to the cause.

Actually, I agree with Susan B. Koman this time around. Since they have all of a sudden "found religion", they are correct in not accepting this money. That said, I will never, ever give them anymore donations. There are plenty of other groups that fund research for breast cancer and other forms that I now give donations.

I think its quite amusing that they would turn down this kind of money, just because it came from porn. If it is wrong to use the things that people gravitate to to raise money for charity then those charities that give dinners with famous people to the highest donor should also be ashamed of their money. Infact any charitable donation that was derived from any fun activity should be turned away. If you are too good to take money from people who love to pay for porn and who would probably watch even more just to give that little extra to your cause then you are too good for any donation that was solicited at all. You may only take donations that were freely given and did not come from any form of drive. Im sure that people with breast cancer everywhere are proud of your morales while they continue to suffer and die.

Why doesn't PornHub donate to a Prostate Cancer group ? Prostate cancer is more common than breast cancer, yet breast cancer receives nearly double the funding from the government for each new case. Why does breast cancer receive so much more money ?

    #1.29 - Thu Oct 4, 2012 6:25 PM EDT

PJ-1795048, where do you get your statistics to back up your statement that almost everybody watches porn these days? Just because you believe something doesn't make it fact.

      #1.30 - Thu Oct 4, 2012 6:35 PM EDT

This is unquestionably, 100% just a cheap publicity stunt by the porn site. No different than Goodyear offering Lindsay Lohan "free driving lessons." Its meant to get their name in the news, nothing more. Anyone debating anything past that is completely clueless as to how modern media works.

I could see the Komen foundation being upset if the website put their name in connection with their videos without contacting the Komen people beforehand. It's kind of like using somebody's likeness without permission. (I would agree that the website should have made sure the donation was a done deal before announcing it-to do otherwise seems fishy or seems to indicate that the people organizing the fundraiser don't really know what they're doing.)

But donated money is donated money. It's not as though the website was using profits from something illegal.

@Vincent Denali - how do you know PornHub doesn't donate to prostate cancer focused charities? And why do you keep trying to change the subject? If you feel prostate cancer research and treatment are underfunded you have several choices. One choice is whining on NV. Another is launching an effort to get individuals, companies and the government to donate to charities you deem worthy of support. Which choice do you think is more likely to be productive?

IdahoMother hit the nail right on the head. If this comes down to a matter of image, lets pull back the sheets (pun intended) on this little operation Komen has running here....

Why would a "non-profit" or "charitable" organization want to protect it's image with regards to where the funds are comming from? Morality, perhaps, but what seems to be a more likely rationale is that if they accept funds FROM a source that SOME find offensive, and arent using ALL of that money for the cause in which it was intended, it may come across as a means of profiting off of said contributor which in turn could cost future donations.

Alternatively if they take a "moral stand" as so many have called out here, 2 concerns arise. First is the victims that need that life saving research money most, that have been shunned for the greater good of the image of what is supposed to be in place to help them. Second is that the organization has something to hide, and dont want any more attention to their shady bookkeeping. "Any publicity is good publicity" only works when you have nothing to hide or nothing to defend.

Again, I have to point to Lance Armstrong and the Livestrong foundation, who in light of all the allegations against him personally opted to accept penalties for them regardless of guilt or innocence and soon after the donations increased rather than decreased. People seemed to still rally behind the organizition for the good that it has done and continues to do rather than any "controversy" surrounding its poster child.

The porn industry is a financial giant and any true "charitable' organization would be grateful to accept whatever help it could by tapping into excess money that could come their way. Realize this benefits everyone unless you have skimming from the top, as the donating business gets a tax write off and money goes directly to a cause instead of funneling it through government channels (taxes).

In this instance, it seems a natural fit for the porn industry to donate to breast cancer research, but other similar channels could include AIDS research, testicular and prostate cancer, as well as planned parenthood and other sexual related fields (sex ed, etc). Its a shame that a company such as Komen has so much influence in the breast cancer awareness field considering how poorly it is run.

A final thought, it has been called out already in the comments here, but I want to reiterate it since it seems very poignant and to the heart of the matter. When a "charitable" organization gets to the point that you need "permission" to donate to it, regardless of how or where the funds are comming from, its probably time to find another outlet for your contributions. I know I will.

          #1.35 - Fri Oct 5, 2012 1:57 PM EDT

You know, in this day and age when so many people spend on porn, and not one dime is given to worthwhile charities (like those that battle breast cancer), I say any other charity should take the site up. Money is money--it doesn't matter where it comes from, as long as it is put toward a great cause--and finding a cure for breast cancer is fantastic, IMO.

Some other charity will be very lucky--the folks at Susan G. Komen? Oh well, their loss.

Sorry, but if your goal is to raise money to fight a disease your only concern should be legality of where it came from and that is not an issue here.

So if you have a woman who is dying of cancer, and there's a treatment to help her but it's very expensive and she can't afford it, who from the Komen foundation is the person assigned to call her and tell her she doesn't get a chance at life because we're too snobby to accept the money being offered to us to help women and find a cure. First they were holding back money from Planned Parenthood, now they won't accept money because of who's giving it? I've had enough of these people. There are plenty of other charities that need my help. They need new top-down management who's main interest is treating/defeating cancer, which the current management seems to haave lost sight of.

Why wouldn't a porn site donate to charities funding prostate cancer ?

Personally, I'd rather they donate to anyone EXCEPT Sue-san G...

Their stance about aggressively persecuting any other non-profit organization that dares to use "for the cure" in their name demonstrates the true nature of their characters.

And be sure to join me and millions of others, as we tie on a brown ribbon for colon cancer awareness!

thank you! Finally someone stands up and talks bad about Komen. I for one have been involved with American Cancer Society for 20 years now. They would be happy to take the donation. They trademarked the "Happy Birthday" song, but you don't hear about them suing anyone for using it like Komen does with "for the cure"

Brown ribbon for colon cance awereness?? LOL (nice choice of color)!!

I guess Pornhub is simply looking for some publicity, don't think they really care about the "cure", but I do wonder if Susan G would have accepted their money to get cured back in late 70s?

It doesn't really matter if they care about the cure, as long as they were legitimately going to give them the money they promised. I for one have run in multiple Komen 5k's, and while it may give me a warm fuzzy to know my money is going toward cancer research, my main reason for doing the 5k's is the t-shirt.

They are fools not to take the money, because they have turned some of their largest donors off permanently. Altenatively, they could drop the pretense of being a charity for women and embrace their new role as a tool of the Religious Right.

Here's my take. You have Mitt Romney and the Mormons. They take their families to church, they teach their children to avoid drugs and risky sexual behaviors. They donate to charities. They also have a prophet of God who was running around according to Mormon produced faith promoting materials like "Living Scriptures on CD" manipulating 14 year old girls into marriage by saying God commanded the relationship. Essentially they support statutory rape in the name of God. They have a temple in Salt Lake with 6 spires on it, and most if not all do not know why.

Now you have PornHub. They might not attend church, might not have the chastity that Mormons possess, but they also DO NOT support statutory rape in the name of God.

If I am going to take money from the Mormons or Pornhub, then I will take it from Pornhub.

If I am going to vote for Mitt Romney or Ron Jeremy, then I am going to vote for the Hegde Hog, because Ron Jeremy does not have a statutory rapist for a prophet, and Ron Jeremy limits his sexual interests, unlike Joseph Smith Jr. (the first Mormon prophet) to adults who have reached the age of majority.

Pornhub and Ron Jeremy have something that a lot of Christians do not. Morals. Ethics. Respect for the law.

                    Take the money.

                    Thank you :)

You know that statutory rape in the name of Jesus is wrong whether you are Republican or Democrat. I would have just as much problem with Mitt Romney running for Obama's seat as I would have a person from any religion running for POTUS whose religion condones statutory rape. Especially when their religion does requires them to uphold the law of the land.

My point is this. Morality and being on one's high horse is all a matter of perspective. A Christian who supports statutory rape might think they rode in on a white horse and deny charitable contributions that are not for profit, when I might look at the same animal they think is a white horse and think that its a spotted donkey.

Why find a cure when there are 'cancer pavillions' to be built, entire wings of hospitals to be built all in the name of 'finding a cure'. Don't buy that bullsh*t for a second. Why find a cure when you can make billions treating it (but NOT curing it) Cancer is BIG BUSINESS. Ever see how much some of the meds are? Some can run into 5 figures for a 'prescription'.

I think Komen foundation is being very uppity, but there are many uptight women who are very turned off/offended and/or threatened by porn.

I could care less either way. As long as the people in the films want to be there, doing what they are doing, then have at it. Just don't spread disease.

And as always with these type of 'adult' or 'marginal' professions - as long as it's not my kids! LOL

Komen will never win me back after their disastrous forray into politics earlier this year (not to mention their excessive overhead and the fact that they donate less than 15% of money raised to research). HOWEVER, it's nice to see them finally take their heads out of their collective arses and stand up against such blatant exploitation of a serious disease. Any woman who has been through BC can tell you it is anything but sexy. Komen absolutely should be vetting any company that wants to give them money. Pornhub could certainly make a donation, but to run an awareness campaign that justifies pornography for the cure is simply bad taste. It's about time Komen began to show some leadership.
