American businesses are carving out more room for veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan − finally driving the overall unemployment rate for that group into single digits in September. But joblessness for the U.S. women home from war continued to climb, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday.
The portion of post-9/11 veterans seeking work fell to 9.7 percent last month, compared to 10.1 percent in August and 11.7 percent in September 2011, according to BLS figures.
However, nearly one out of five women who served in the military at home or abroad during the two wars is now without a job, the new BLS statistics show. As the U.S. troop drawdown continues in Afghanistan, the unemployment rate for post-9/11 female vets surged to 19.9 percent in September, compared to 14.7 percent a year earlier and 12.1 percent in August.
"More women were deployed than ever before but an awful lot of them are single moms who face the challenge of coming home," said John E. Pickens III, executive director of VeteransPlus, a nonprofit that has offered financial counseling to more than 150,000 current and former service members.
"Someone has been taking care of their kids, and now they want to refocus their lives on being mom. Often, though, the kind of employment that may be available to them is not sufficient to help them meet that dream of both working and being that stable mom," added Pickens, a combat medic with the U.S. Army Special Forces and the 82nd Airborne Division in the early 1970s.
And while many companies trumpet their patriotic side by plucking male combat veterans and plunking them into corporate roles, women who served with some of those same guys often are not viewed by employers with the same level of admiration, Pickens has been told my some of his female clients. In short: Women who logged time in the war zones don't earn the same level of prestige - or employability - are do U.S. males who recently were in the line of fire.
"They are misunderstood and challenged in a number of ways," Pickens said. "Typically, folks look at male veterans returning as warriors who we need to honor, and say we need to do what we can for these warriors. Women, unfortunately, don’t carry home that same mantel as a warrior. But they certainly have served beside the men and, in many cases, have done a lot of things that put themselves as risk."
Women comprise about 15 percent of the U.S. military, said Genevieve Chase, founder of American Women Veterans, a foundation that works to improve the lives of women veterans and their families. She served in Afghanistan in 2006 and remains in the U.S. Army Reserves. She earned a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in a blast in Helmand Province when a car-packed with explosives smashed into the truck in which she was riding. She describes herself as "currently unemployed" - and has been, she said, for almost all of 2012, living off of what's left of her savings.
"A huge part of it is we come home and we don't wear the warrior archetype on our sleeves," Chase said. "We do come home and the American public doesn't understand what we do overseas; they don't quite know how to receive us, don't know how to relate to us. Even some of our brothers, even some of the men who we served with, don't quite know how to relate to us."

Still, some U.S. companies, including Citi and Ryder, have shifted hiring priorities and are hiring more former service members, helping to trim the jobless rate among post-9/11 veterans, Pickens said. Ryder has put ex-military folks into driving and technical positions. Citi is helping move people from the battlefield to Wall Street.
"Certainly, I think some companies, big and small, are realizing these men and women make excellent employees because of their commitment to duty, because of all the traits instilled in them in the military," Pickens said. "And the more that easily recognizable companies like Ryder, like Citi are seen hiring veterans, the more other smaller businesses and organizations will say, 'My goodness. Look at this. Maybe I should I check this out?'"
But the mission to re-employ more ex-service members is far from complete, contends a leading veterans group whose chief executive officer said he remains "deeply concerned" about the lack of attention paid to the issue by America's political leaders - particularly its presidential candidates.
During Wednesday night's debate, for example, President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney both failed to adequately address pressing veterans issues - including the fact that post-9/11 veterans remain strapped with an unemployment rate that's higher than the rest of the U.S. workforce, said Paul Rieckhoff, CEO and founder of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, a nonprofit group with more than 200,000 members.
“Veteran joblessness was not mentioned once," said Rieckhoff, an Iraq veteran who called the latest unemployment statistics "appalling," noting that roughly 250,000 post-9/11 veterans are now out of work.
"It's something most Americans don't realize until we are reminded. And this (lack of candidate attention) is in such contrast to the last two presidential elections, when Iraq and Afghanistan and the troops were such a centerpiece," he said.
"Because the war (in Iraq) has ended doesn't mean the people who served there have just gone away — I mean 2.4 million of them were in Iraq and Afghanistan, and tens of thousands are still over there. There are long-term social, financial and human costs to being at war for 10 years. The candidates have a moral obligation to focus on those folks. The war may be over for the civilian population. But for us, in many ways, it's still going on."

Appears as though Obama's wonderful policies for women are not working too well.....that calls for another "blame Bush" moment.
This is a bullsh_t article. A vet is not just a male who served in the military, women who served are still vets. Whats the real point of this article, just more female discrimination? Now that may be true, but then that is what the article should be headlined as.
I agree, but what it really is, is fuel for women to bitch and complain.
Time to RE-UP/!!!!!!
I respect and admire the women that served and they should be held in the same regard as male veterans. They served their nation and put their lives on the line. May God bless all the women who have served. You have my respect.
NBC news is trying to show that the employment crisis for women veterans is worse then for male veterans. NBC News states in the title that "Ex - Military" Women are not viewed the same way as men who are veterans. perhaps NBC news can start by calling Women Veterans what they are; VETERANS!, using the term Ex - Military just encourages the belief that women veterans are not as good/brave/employable/worthy as male veterans. Remember, there is no longer a 'front', any woman in the military is as subject to the reprecussions of war as a male soldier.
Right on, Red and Grumpy. The title on this article really threw me. The language of sexism is still invisible to those with the privileged penis.
Bull crap article just fabricted to once again make it seem that women in the USA are somehow inferior citizens to men and being discriminated against. The fact of the matter is that women vets have the same access to transition training, counseling, job fairs, employment skills training and the host of programs available to assist ALL vets in obtaining employment once they leave the service. That fire departments, police departments, and occupations that predominantly hire men continue to do so doesn't mean they are discriminating against women. It's based on the fact that regardless of how androgyny in the workplace has been jammed down our throats that there are jobs more suited for men and jobs more suited for women. People that can't grasp this concept are functional morons. More female vets CHOOSE to stay home with children, CHOOSE to return to school, or CHOOSE to be a full-time house-wife than male vets. That is the facts; if you don't like - too bad. Oregonian - if you want a penis, go buy one, but please spare us from the same old Freudian based myth that has been the mantra of women who are upset because they weren't born a man. Feminists may not be able to take the truth, but it is so! As far as women being "warriors" when compated to male grunts on the battlefield - give me a friggin break. I've been there, done that, and NEVER met a woman that could hang with the infantry, rangers etc. This does not demean their patriotism or sacrifice in war, but don't confuse serving in a combat zone as being the equal of BEING in combat. During time of war, employers often give priority to vets that have been awarded combat medals and decorations versus "been there" medals. This is NOT discrimination any more that promoting a soldier that has been in a combat arms unit faster than a clerk in the Pentagon. One DOES have more value than the other in the military. Just because someone is a woman doesn't mean we need to go back to quotas based on crap articles that avoid discussing the plethora of laws and regulations in place to prevent the so-called people as oregonigomer says have a "privileged penis". She, and I'm sure it is a SHE maybe needs to go find a penis to calm down a bit! Now THAT is a sexist comment.
Wow, females not having to pull their weight along with their brothers? Not having to go on convoys and provide security and fire support or knock down doors during house raids? I'm glad I didn't deploy with your unit or in support of your unit. I would have died from sheer boredom. All I need is my combat medals in order for me to get a decent job when I get out? Sweet!!! Oh, damn, forgot that the CAB doesn't mean crap (even though I earned it in combat) because not only am I a woman but I am also combat support. Guess I will just have to stay home with the kids while the Infantry Soldier that purposely cut his hand on one of the mirrors that was shattered during a very minor IED attack and recieved a Purple Heart is going to be able to get that job.
Right on Fireyred. Everyone who has served is a VETERAN!!!!!!!!!! Even the the K-9's, so yes more needs to be done for our women who served along side the men. They are all GI's at time of service so why not all VETERANS, not just Ex-Military.
Obama can allow all the illegal immigrants to come here and get free housing, free food, free education, free medical, but he isn't doing a damn thing for our Veterans both men and women. He says that they knew what they were getting into when they signed up. Yes they did, but nonetheless they put their lives on the line for us and they should be allowed to come back home and get decent jobs and live a normal life. But he can dish it out to illegals. What is wrong with this story? I have both sons and daughters that are veterans and I cherish them and all their companions that have served and willing put their lives on the line for us.
Lisa I wholeheartedly think more needs to be done for our women and veterans but come on Lisa.......K-9's?
The VA is stressed out.......underfunded ......and overworked enough....!
I do think that we need to help troops that need K-9's but what exactly are you talking about...K-9's are
Veteran's? This is the kind of stuff that makes everybody want to Throw their hands up! K-9's classified
as veteran's.....hell if that is the case........mice....birds....cats...horses......any type of animal that we
have experimented with.
Another thing, most folks that need K-9's just want their claim processed as quickly as
possible....amongst the million that
are waiting to be process.
Unfortunately for women, there is a very real male segment that will never view or treat them as equals in whatever endeavor they undertake. If you don't think so, just look at the Republican party. Women are 2nd class citizens. And who controls their lives, Akin, Gingrich, Santorum, Limbaugh etc.
Veterans are veterans.
However, most Americans today have no idea what a veteran is, male or female. Is it 1% of Americans fighting our endless wars?
I really feel that if we are going to do battle, everybody participates. Whatever your name, you do your time. No way can you get deferred, other than physical or mental disability.
So, until some of these things change, the outcome will remain the same.
If anybody treats women as second class citizens it is Obama! Women in his White House staff are paid about 75% of what their male counterparts make. It is also considered an 'hostile work environment' for women.
By the way, Bush's White House treated female staffers the same as male staffers and the pay was much more equitable.
So, it looks like the actual 'war on women' is actually being waged by democrats and not republicans.
But, go ahead and keep drinking that kool-aid.
Beth, give it a rest. I'm a disabled Vietnam veteran and no one cared when I was living in the street, and I'm a male.
I don't care what gender a vet is - there is no excuse for the treatment they receive when they get home. AFAIC, "Support or Troops" is more than putting a ribbon on the back of your SUV! Next time you walk by a homeless guy, consider there's about a 1 in 4 chance he or she served their country. And be ashamed that this is the best we can do for our vets.
Nick, you went, I volunteered 3 times.I didn't vote for bush the deserter. I wont vote for a yellow draft dodging, tax avoider. I served with quite a few blacks. didn't like most of them, but I would vote for ALL of them before romney. How the hell he could be CinC is beyond me..
My advice to you ladies, "Keep screaming, and join advocacy groups and scream in unison" You did your bit, never quit. Things will get better.
tammy, where do you get your information from?
Citation please. Otherwise, you're just spouting BS.
I agree..
'war on women' , LOL
12.1 Million Americans are unemployed. 365,000 Americans lost their jobs in Sept. 114,000 jobs were created in Sept. That is a net loss of 251,000 jobs in Sept. Unemployment in the Hispanic community is 9.9%. In the Black community it is 10.1%. Total unemployment, underemployment is 14.7%
Romney/Ryan-2012 and beyond! NO MORE FOR 44..............
And God bless our troops, especialy our snipers!
''When you give a speech you don't go through a laundry list, you talk about the things that you think are important.''
—Mitt Romney, when asked about failing to mention the troops in his nomination speech at the Republican National Convention, Fox News interview, Sept. 7, 2012
Vote Obama
Mitt's a twit
wow, it's amazing the LACK of comments from the all too vocal "right".....hmmmmm, what does that tell you???
um ... fool, we know that unemployment is unemployment ... also for .1% change it is 100,000 jobs ... I guess we will get the correct unemployment rate in November ... (Under Obama the numbers get corrected often (about 10 times now a few months later) That said, I have watched the amopunt of jobs it takes to change unemployment so I dont get Obama fooled ... its around 100,000 jobs per .1% change ... it always is .. look at the Reports Sheeple ... So unless the numbers have been altered, which it appears they have ... It looks to me like Unemployment is at 8.0% ...In November after the election as Brian Williams toungue bathes Obamas butt (the film is out there) Citizens will KNOW that Obama is a total liar ... and as for the Debate Prep ... Quit the excuses ... Obama was in Vegas with Debate Coaches and mock up group for 3 days (all locked up) or at least thats where he told everyone and his wife he was ... (He was in Vegas as was Wasserman-Schultze ... and he performed in the Debate like he had been doing somone else for those 3 days)
That said, even if 7.8 is the number (guarantee it isnt) thats still 23.9 million people un or underemployed ... PLUS, the only jobs that have been created by old Obama or during the past 3 years(except for his and Michelles buddies on the "personal" but paid by taxpayer staff) pay 7.50 an hour ... I pay my maid 25 an hour ... my yard guys an extra 20 a week for an extra 1/2 hour of planting flowers ... My painter (his rate) 200 a day and I always give him extra and lunch if not dinner as well ... 7.50 an hour is 60 bucks a day ... before deductions ... NO ONE can live on that ... seriously Americas poor and Middle Class are poorer today than 3, 4, 7, 11 years ago ... and gas is 4.95 a gallon here ... Im adjusting my employees salaries to help because I fear my poor maid wouldnt be able to fill up her Porsche, Gardeners their trucks and etc. I would never let an employee of mine live on @!$%#ty Obama wages ... (and my Republican Neighbors pay the help well too, its the other 2 Democrats that are cheap a++es.)
hd, are you a wealthy African-American Republican? How refreshing! The maid gets $25 an hour? Do you need more help? I would like to apply for a position please.
If a veteran served honorably he or she are "former service people," not "ex-" "Ex" has the connotation that the person was discharged under other than honorable circumstance.
Women typically bear the largest share of unemployment in tough economic times ,still. If we have disabilities or children or both, it's even harder to get through school or hired. Many of us female vets, even peace-timers have learned its better not to mention vet status to the general population. We have too often felt need to hide what the men can boast proudly of. The combat pay/ designation issue when women are dying and getting injured is also a source of the ongoing disparity in mh care and other priorities . Too many of the agencies who assist vets also view the women warriors through 1950s lenses and think we want to come home from the job and retire to bon bons and soap operas. We are just beginning to get the kind of access to medical and mh care we need, but are a long way from getting equal respect and equal assistance to be more able. It does seem there are more programs and people to help and support female spouses of veterans , than female veterans, too. I for one am sick of being asked if my children can help with situations, or if husband is a vet at functions, in programs, and at the VA. I have no husband or children. Male veterans do not get asked if it is their spouse who served, or if thy can be brushed off, to ask their children to help them out instead of help to get work !
Oh, can I agree with this! *I'm* the veteran in my family, not my husband. But that's certainly not the common perception. Should have seen the raised eyebrows when we applied for our mortgage and it was MY VA!
Beth, I have looked at the Republican party! The first female Secretary of State. In the US, was a Black women! Under a Republican president! Whose unemployment rate was 5.4%. Gas averaged $1.89 a gallon! In Obama's world, a gallon of Gas is $3.65. In Obama's America, 51% of all college grads, cannot find a job!
NO MORE FOR 44!
Sure US servicemen are being employed, we have 6 or 8 more wars we want to start so they will have plenty of work for the next 50 years. Killing for the military is a full time job now, doesn't pay worth a @!$%# but you don't have to have a college education to get the job, that is a Romney platform for becoming president. Republican love war and as long as there are republicans in congress there will be wars. This countries don't to do any thing to the US we just love the though of going to war.
Risk1 There are a lot of military jobs and the future looks very bright we are going to have endless wars for years to come. Risk your life and makes some money, of course the politicans never risk their lives for their country they now have a lot of college grads for these job.
Risk1, may I ask you who was President in Aug. 2008 when gas prices were spiking across the country? Barrack hadn't even officially been nominated by Dem Party, the prices now are about the same as then yes but if the Koch Bros. and what have you would put some serious money into fixing their oil refineries instead of giving to PACs who are working to get Romney elected then the prices might not be as high and I wonder how many female Veterans they'll be hiring. I can tell you Chesapeake and Devon both based here in OKC are hiring females, don't know if any are veterans or not.
The thing I want to ask all these companies that had servicemen/women who were employed by by you, why aren' you hiring them back?
Those statistics are not right. When Bush left office, unemployment rates were much higher, close to 7 percent. Get your facts straight before you start mouthing off about the President. It's interesting that Obama inherited a lot of problems from the prior presidency, but you do not mention that. If you want to look at it from an entirely partisan perspective, both Kennedy and Johnson had low unemployment, as well as Clinton, Reagan-Bush also lowered unemployment rates during their reign, but only by a very small margin, compared to the other two. And your gas prices are way off, you are living in dream land, with nothing to prove your fox news templated remarks.
I think you missed the mark on the first female secretary of state too, really, you just need to go home as that one is quite large. beyond embarrassing.
Dixie, They also fail to mention bush started the 2 longest wars in our history an put them on our credit card. That is the main reason we are in this mess It took 15 years to recover from Nam, it will take just as long, or longer to recover from these two.
Madeleine Albright, was the first female secretary of state. She was white, and appointed by Bill Clinton... I fail to see how people can throw out so called facts, get them wrong and wonder why people call them out on their other non-cited "statistics." They then have the temerity to scream," liberal bias" when anyone calls them out on it.
bill clinton started the "containment of sadaam"
it lasted from 1993 to 2003
the mission was to contain sadaam hussein and his WMDs
1 million iraqis died as a result of sanctions and bombing suspected WMD sites
it cost 1 trillion dollars.
......democrats try to ignore this....but it happened.
Thanks fearmonger. Saved me the effort.
The looney left speaks aka. hanson..............maroon
As the Right Wing "Gods" have said time and time again......."they volunteered"........and "thank you for your service"
Love Oreilly and Hannity>
Besides, they are part of the 47%.
NBC - keep stroking the flames of victimaziton (my word). Women are unequal, treating like dirt, etc...... the true liberal mantra, keep people and groups fighting against each other as excuse for more government control. So its women one day, blacks another, latinos another, gays another. The liberal mind always sees things through colored or sexist glasses. America is one, get it, its no ones fault, we all are struggling together. We are a nation of ONE. So get off your ass, stop looking for someone to blame, work hard, vote for people that have the best interest of the nation in mind not individual special interests and let's get to work making this country a fee nation again. My god, the government is telling us what to eat, what to think, how to feel about each other, the threat is real, its not a woman's battle its a battle against the forces of those that think government control is the answer to everything.
THIS article is false I'm a man and an Iraq war vet and I will tell you no one is hiring us. The only vets that are being hired are reservists. The words thank you for your service is code for f you. If you were an actiyve duty soldier the only chance at life is work at the VA or some charity and this pisses me off. I'm at a point where I look down on every one and I'm not going to apologize for doing my job. If your a soldier you just remember you don't owe anyone.
s t s, you could try Home Depot; I worked there and they hired a lot of veterans. I finally found two jobs after looking for seven months. good luck to you.
If you are struggling to find employers that are actively recruiting veterans I suggest They are changing the way that employers find talented veterans. HirePurpose is a job matching site (similar to what e-Harmony does). Rather than looking at the resume, the employer sees the ‘real person’. This is accomplished through an assessment for the candidate and short questionnaire for the employer, giving each the ‘best fit’ for the positions available.
That's news to me! This is a color and gender-blind issue; shame on the MSM for trying to say otherwise, all while attempting to create a special 'victim' class of veterans who are just as hard on their luck as the rest of us vets.
Signed,
An Unemployed Male Combat Veteran with a college degree in a s****y economy
This is my frustrated theory why there are no jobs.
Let's take a look at things now, the US dollar being devalued, inflation, American jobs outsourced, and now Wall Street and Chicago markets not doing so good.
American people not buying cheap Chinese stuff, because they don't have a job or they have very little money to make ends meet.
Europeans doing the same thing as the Americans, they are not buying cheap Chinese stuff.
Several middle east countries doing the same thing, not buying cheap Chinese stuff.
Chinese manufacturing dropping off because no one is buying their cheap stuff, no one has any money Chinese economy having problems.
Chinese have loaned out trillions, no chance of ever being paid back no one has any money.
So China is on the edge just like everyone,"" because they took the outsourcing bait"" get the world dependent on their cheap stuff, world economies collapse because there are no jobs all jobs are in China, results no one can buy Chinese stuff no jobs, house of cards fall, United States, Europe, Asia, "" and who is being real quiet sitting pretty Russia "" .
Can't beat the world with military infiltrate them, get them to destroy themselves.
Imported Food We Eat and Junk We Buy
Green Giant frozen vegetables are from China, as are most of Europe’s.
Best. Arctic Gardens are OK.
NEVER buy the grocery store garlic unless it is clearly marked from the USA or Canada. Most everything else is stuff grown in people poop (even worse than the chicken poop below)!. China is the largest producer of garlic in the world. The U.S.is next.
Buy only local honey; again, most honey is shipped in huge containers from China and re-packed in the US. You probably won’t find that on the label!!
Cold-FX is grown and packed in China and is full of fecal bacteria. Doesn't work anyway, big scam. If the country of origin is not clearly marked beware.
If you aren’t sure about produce, ask an employee.
Watch out for packages which state "prepared for", "packed by" or "imported by".
The country of origin should be clearly shown on the item. Buy as much as you can from local farmers markets in season and keep a wary eye open the rest of the year.
How is it possible to ship food from China cheaper than having it produced in the U.S or Canada?
For example: the "Our Family" brand of mandarin oranges says right on the can it’s from China. Just look at the label - The MORE we purchase from China, the cheaper it becomes for them to ship it all to the US in huge container ships!
For a few more cents (literally!) you can buy several other brands.
Gold brand or Dole comes from California.
Beware, Cosco sells canned peaches and pears in a plastic container that come from China.
All "High Liner" and most other frozen fish products come from China or Indonesia. The package may say "pacific salmon" on the front, but look for the small print, usually on the back of the package near the bottom. Most of these products come from fish farms in the orient where there are no regulations on what is fed to these fish. (Recently The Montreal Gazette had an article by the Canadian Government on how Chinese feed the fish: They suspend chicken wire crates over the fish ponds, and the fish feed on chicken poop. Then YOU get to eat the fish!) If you search the internet about what the Chinese feed their fish that they import all over the world, you'll be alarmed at the pictures and the articles. (It’s nauseating reading!)
Never buy any type of fish or shellfish that comes from these countries: Vietnam, China, Philippines. Again, you can find a myriad of articles on this on the internet without having to dig very far!
Steinfeld’s Pickles are made in India – just as bad!!!
Another example is in canned mushrooms: No-Name brand comes from Indonesia.
Check those little fruit cups. They used to be made in Canada in the Niagara region until about 2 years ago. They are now packaged in China! Look at the label!
While the Chinese export inferior and even toxic products, dangerous toys and goods to be sold in North American markets, the media wrings its hands and criticizes the Obama Administration and the Harper Government for perceived errors. Yet 70% of North Americans believe that the trading privileges afforded to the Chinese should be suspended!!
Well, duh. Why do you need the government to suspend trading privileges?
Simply do it yourself!!! Buy only canadian or US products!!
Read the labels of what you buy! If it says 'Made in China ' or 'PRC' (that now
includes Hong Kong ), choose another product, or none at all. You will be amazed at how dependent you are on Chinese products and how YOU are furthering their invasion into our food supply as well as taking jobs away from US citizens by buying their products!
**** If 200 million North Americans refused to buy just $20 each of Chinese goods, that's a billion dollar trade imbalance resolved in our favor...fast!! The downside? Some Canadian / American businesses will feel a temporary pinch from having foreign stockpiles of their inventory. But we, as Americans, HAVE to show them that we do NOT want Chinese products or they will keep buying from China. We are the end user and we must change this because they won’t.
If just one month of trading losses hit the Chinese, it would account for 8% of their North American exports. That's "less" coming in, not "more"! At least it's a start! Even slowing down the amount they get into this country helps.
PLEASE - Send this to everybody you know, and keep sending it so it continues to go around. WE have to make the difference.
Chris ... not the place for your spam please.
The media makes me want to hurl. It's always and forever about women, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. If we're not focused on breast cancer, we're focused on abortion; if we're not focused on abortion, we're focused on birth control. If we're not focused on birth control, we're focused on 'women's rights'. If we're not focused on women's rights, we're focused on 'the now tiring and worn out glass ceiling'. If we're not focused on the glass ceiling, we're focused on how we can celebrate women again THIS month. Take a day off, we deserve it.
@ therockofages
Oh you must be Gay.. nothing worse than a gay guy on his pretend period. Take some Midol .. Bubba
Veteran may get jobs from the usajobs.gov or state/local government jobs website; and go to the job websites, e.g. Indeed.com, and one can just "GOOGLE" any job that one would like to do, e.g. "customer service" or "immediate jobs" which is usually no requirement necessary; and do not forget to sign up on the job search engines; and the job websites will send one with new job offers.
Continue to do the search; there are many jobs out there for the women and men, either veteran or non-veteran.
Do the search on internet. Send Resume and fill up application . . . God bless.
sorry to say: If you're a vet & under the age of 35 (I believe they even have an age exemption for vets now) you can apply at the federal prisons for just about any job they have. And you are 95% guaranteed to get that job due to the points you are given on your application just for being a vet. That applies to any federal job.
So If you are NOT a vet & are applying for federal jobs and find out you're up against vet's forget it. You will not be getting that job even tho you may be the most qualified for the job. I agree we should be helping vets get jobs but not just handing them over & by-passing more qualified people.
You are a worthless piece of crap. You sit around bad mouthing women who served in wars while you sat it out on your butt at home ? Yeah let's hear you make up some drivel about your lustrous war record. I won't be believing a word of it.. it's clear what you are... from your comment.
How can you tell me what I did and what I am? Don't ever give me your crap. I am a highly decorated disabled Vietnam veteran. And where did I bad mouth anyone? i wish I knew where you are, because I would sew your ass to your face and make you my own hand puppet. I served my country, I respect people and you rip me for giving my opinion. You're the big mouth loser.

why do you take up space on NBC news comment pages if you hate their stories so much ? Challenge everything they print as dishonest or untrue? I will tell you why .. because it's prob the last place that will let you post your never ending criticism about everything they print while sucking up their bandwidth posting your repartee of whining and bitching and Obama hate... Go hang out on Fox.. oh wait they don't really allow people to have free speech on their comment boards do they. So you bring it over to NBC news it's like a bipolar Plague of old fart tea baggers from hell now you are bad mouthing Female veterans.

''My sons are all adults and they've made decisions about their careers and they've chosen not to serve in the military and active duty and I respect their decision in that regard. One of the ways my sons are showing support for our nation is helping me get elected because they think I'd be a great president.''
—Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney in 2007
Less than 2% of Americans have ever served in the military....there is a saying..."A few ARE fighting for the country....the majority are at the mall!"
I am a femal military veteran. First of all, if you have never served, you don't have a clue what happens to a vet and how they are treated (or mistreated as the case may be). Second, if you are a Vietnam Vet, you know the military and VA and the economy has changed drastically. But one thing hasn't changed..women are discriminated against, whether it is on active duty, as a vet, or trying to transition back to the civilian world (aka "the good ol' boys club"). I attended a Veterans job fair, where most of the jobs were aimed towards men and the women there were directed only to colleges and medical. some of you are talking out of your behinds and are mysoginists.
The President doesn't set or control gas prices.. Educate yourself..
''When you have a fire in an aircraft, there's no place to go, exactly, there's no -- and you can't find any oxygen from outside the aircraft to get in the aircraft, because the windows don't open. I don't know why they don't do that. It's a real problem.''
—Mitt Romney, suggesting it would be a good idea to crack a window in a pressurized cabin at 35,000 feet with 500-mile-an-hour winds (Beverly Hills fundraiser, Sept. 22, 2012)
Oh please.. the man is an utter fool !!
And so are you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
