Full statement from Jerry Sandusky maintaining innocence on sex-abuse charges

Following is the full transcript of former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky's statement Monday, which was recorded from his jail cell in Bellefonte, Pa., and aired on the Penn State student radio station:

I'm responding to the worst loss of my life.

First, I looked at myself. Over and over, I asked why? Why didn't we have a fair opportunity to prepare for trial?

Sandusky, alleging broad conspiracy, insists he's innocent of child sex-abuse charges

Why have so many people suffered as a result of false allegations? What's the purpose? Maybe it will help others. some vulnerable children who could be abused might not be because of all the publicity. That would be nice, but I'm not sure about it. I would cherish the opportunity to become a candle for others, as they have been a light for me.

They can take away my life, they can make me out as a monster, they can treat me as a monster, but they can't take away my heart. In my heart, I know I did not do these alleged disgusting acts.

My wife has been my only sex partner, and that was after marriage. Our love continues.

A young man who was dramatic, a veteran accuser and always sought attention, started everything. He was joined by a well-orchestrated effort of the media, investigators, the system, Penn State, psychologists, civil attorneys and other accusers. They won.

I've wondered what they really won: attention, financial gain, prestige — will all be temporary.

Before you blame me, as others have, look at everything and everybody. Look at the preparation for the trial and the trial. Compare it to others. Think about what happened. Why, and who made it happen?

Watch US News videos on NBCNews.com

Evaluate the accusers and their families. Realize they didn't come out of isolation. The accusers were products of many more people and experiences than me. Look at their confidants and their honesty. Think about how easy it was for them to turn on me given the information, attention and potential perks. I never labeled or put down them or their families. I tried and I cared, then asked for the same.

Please realize all came to the Second Mile because of issues. Some of those may remain.

We will continue to fight. We didn't lose the proven facts, evidence, accurate locations and times. Anything can be said. We lost to speculation and stories that were influenced by people who wanted to convict me.

We must fight unfairness and consistency and dishonesty. People need to be portrayed for who they really are.

We've not been complainers. When we couldn't have kids, we adopted. When we didn't have time to prepare for a trial, we still gave it our best. We will fight for another chance.

We have given many second chances, and now we'll ask for one. It will take more than our effort. Justice will have to be more than just a word, fairness more than just a dream. It will take others: somebody apolitical with the courage to listen, to think about the unfairness, to have the guts to stand up and take the road less traveled.

I ask for the strength to handle everything and willingness to surrender only to God, regardless of the outcome.

Does he really think that this is going to convince anyone of his innocence? Blaming the victims? Really, Jerry? Really?

Sandusky is right where he belongs. No remorse at all. Complete denial. Keep him out of society for the rest of his life. He is a dangerous predator.

“We must fight unfairness and consistency and dishonesty. People need to be portrayed for who they really are.” I am confused with his word of “consistency” in this sentence. The word “consistency” does not fit in the sentence.

I think he left out some words in his statement.

Sandusky - We fought your unfairness and your consistency to sexually abuse little boys and we believe you to be a very dishonesty pervert. People need to be portrayed for who they really are and you really are a pedophile.

Rick and Jay In Atlanta, I agree with you guys, his time to speak was at the trial. I can't imagine an innocent man taking this mute. I know I would be yelling for all I was worth, continually, repeatedly and with as much volume as I could muster. This sounds to me like a too smart too late damage control error, that and a hint of how a guilty pedophile might sound. So I suppose we'll hear a bit more of this but Mr. Sandusky has said all he's going to, hopefully.

Sandusky says: "It will take others: somebody apolitical with the courage to listen, to think about the unfairness, to have the guts to stand up and take the road less traveled."

You mean the "Hershey Highway" Jerry? There's a reason that road is one less traveled, scumbag! It's too bad that no one will probably be able to get to you in prison, but you can bet that everything you eat and drink that is served to you in the future is going to be adulterated with god knows what.

If that judge doesn't give you the max after your little diatribe today it will be surprising. Hopefully, after tomorrow no one will be hearing from you again for many years. I wish you many, many years of "health". It would be a shame if you were to die soon before you fully enjoy as much of your sentence as you can.

The joke goes: "The convict tells the judge, "I can't do 50 years in prison, and the judge replies, "That's alright son, you just do as much of it as you can".

Really????? Are you insane? What does it take to convince you? High definition video of him and the kids featuring insertion? I feel bad for Joe too, bad that he's dead and so avoided prosecution. I understand and agree that people should be cautious about making judgements about accusations like these, but the evidence was overwhelming! Who takes naked showers with young kids???? Who calls naked wrestling with underage kids in the shower as: "horseplay"? Pedophiles, that's who.

A very, very sick man that functioned in our society for a long time.... His wife, she must be as sick as he if she didnt know what was going on... Couldnt have children of their own? Seems like a reason (in his mind) to molest young boys.. Could the sick wife be in on this because of her own lack of fertility or was it His???

I want to know whats wrong with adopting a boy and a girl? Sick! So he just so happened to only adopt a boy, why didn't she want a girl? And all of a sudden (Joe) the son decided to come forward and gain what? He just wanted to jump on the band wagon and make some money off this poor exploited old man? The adopted son wanted to ruin the life of a man that "took him in"??? Gave him a "real" home? Really and the adoptive son and the other children are such liars and fools.

I think some of the responses about being raped in prison or dropping the soap says a lot about the people saying it. That is not a part of our justice system (or isnt supposed to be at least). I find people making such comments are equally as sick in the head.

Really? There was not enough time to prepare for the trial? Even your own son turned against you and this is a conspiracy of some sort? Penn State was decimated by this scandal. I'm not a Penn State fan but it is a shame that someone as evil as yourself brought such shame to a fine university. You had your opportunity in court to openly defend yourself and did you take it???....No, you did not. One angry person bringing these allegations against is one thing, but multiple grown men got together and decided to compromise their dignity and bring you down for no reason? Give me a break. Anyone that believes that you are innocent and continues to support you would be a complete idiot. What you should do for the rest of your life is pray for forgiveness, because ultimately, that is what you really need.

Sending Sandusky to prison would be like sending Dahmer to meat butchering class.

Might as well make him a Boy Scout leader or Catholic priest, too!

Send him as a diplomat to Iran on behalf of Israel. One stone, many birds.

You go ahead and surrender to God, and pray he's more merciful than a room full of prisoners with sons. Suffer tremendous misery for the rest of your life. And after you die, rot in hell you vile, disgusting creature!

And that, right there, gets right to the heart of the way a predator like Sandusky operates and rationalizes. He deliberately targeted victims he could later undermine and demonize as "troubled," and therefore not to be believed.

Since a firing squad is apparently out of the question, this man needs to well and thoroughly rot in prison.

Sandusky is an idiot. The last thing he should be doing right now before sentencing is claiming some grand conspiracy.

But keep one thing one in mind, it means he will most likely get the book thrown at him by the sentencing judge.

Sandusky's recent claims just means he has to dig himself out of a deeper hole.

I have not followed the trial closely as the topic quite disgusts me. Can anyone tell me if this man ever took a polygraph test? If not, why? Is this procedure not acceptable anymore in cases where the defendant continuously pleads innocense?

                              Reply#53 - Tue Oct 9, 2012 9:01 AM EDT

Polygraphs aren't admissible in court, although the police still tend to use them to support their investigations. It is not uncommon to hear pedophiles blaming the victims. They often say that the victims "seduced" them. In fact, after 20 years addressing these crimes, I have never heard a convicted pedophile actually accept responsibility for his or her actions. So, his comments are no surprise, sadly. It could've brought some healing to the victims if he had validated their abuse.
