Police explore link between missing Colorado girl and Wyoming abduction

In Colorado, the parents of a missing 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway open up for the first time since their daughter disappeared on her way to school. They vow to "never stop looking." NBC's Miguel Almaguer reports.

Authorities looking into the disappearance of Jessica Ridgeway, the 10-year-old girl who vanished from her Colorado home last Friday, are investigating whether it could be connected to the abduction of a girl in Wyoming, The Associated Press reported.

Police in Westminster, Colo., told the AP they are working with investigators in Cody, Wyo., to explore whether there was any connection between Jessica's case and that of an 11-year-old who was lured Monday into an SUV by a man and released about four hours later. Cody is about 500 miles northwest of Westminster.

Police release new photos, video in search for missing Colorado girl

The Cody girl was found by hunters, the AP said.

Westminster police spokesman Trevor Matarasso said Wednesday at a press conference that authorities will continue to search land and bodies of water in the area where Ridgeway disappeared, NBC affiliate KUSA-TV reported. The  searches of the bodies of water searches are precautionary, he added.

On Tuesday, police released new photos and a video of Jessica to help people better identify her as they continue their search.

Jessica was last seen on Friday morning by her mother when she left to walk three blocks from her home to meet friends for the walk to school. She took the same route every day.

The friends told school officials that Jessica never showed up. They tried calling Jessica’s mother, but she reportedly slept through calls after working a night shift.

“I watched her walk out the door, and I shut the door, and that’s the last time I saw her," Jessica's mother, Sarah Ridgeway told KUSA-TV Tuesday. "And I want her to come walking back through that door. I need her to walk back through that door."

So far, the biggest lead yet in the case has been the discovery of what police believe to be Jessica's backpack and water bottle found Sunday in Superior, Colo., about 6 1/2 miles northwest of Jessica's home.

"We'll never stop looking. We love her," Jessica's father, Jeremiah Bryant told KUSA-TV.

NBC's Andrew Mach contributed to this report.

Could there be a connection between this abduction and that of two cousins, 8 yr old Elizabeth Collins and 10 yr old Lyric Cook from Evansdale, Iowa on July 13, 2012?

Took a long time for my reply, but I would say no there is probably not a connection since police seem to think the abductions of these two from Iowa involve a family member.

dez, where did you get that info from? I haven't heard that before? I've thought from day one that one of the mothers was involved, just from her demeanor.

I'm thinking the same thing about the mother her cries don't seem real. Or she could be just all cried out by now. I hope they find the girl alive but it doesn't look to could after so long. Unless it is somebody who is planning on keeping her.

Pathos....I thought the exact same thing. It's like those 2 girls disappeared into thin air. And, we can't forget Baby Lisa from the Kansas City area who went missing October 3rd, 2011.

I have been hoping that they would find Jessica, and find her alive. Now, after seeing this interview, I hate to say this and it is only my opinion, and I hope I am wrong, but the father's response looks authentic, the mother's looks phony and forced. Nothing would make me happier than to be proved wrong and Jessica found unharmed.

I hate to say it, but I thought the same thing as the poster above. Dad's response looked genuine, but Mom looked phony. Like she was crying, but I didn't see any tears. If my daughter was missing, I would be prostate with grief, not acting like this woman. I know people respond to shock and grief in different ways, but in my opinion, there's something just not right with this woman. Also, I would be interested to know what all the police took out of their home during their search.

Well, the mom let them search so that is not fishy to me. where was the hubby when the girl left to school. Did anyone like neighbors see the little girl leave the house or did anyone at all see her walking at all??? the back pack must have been tossed out the window or someone would have seen the parents or whoever plant it where it was found. any camaras at any of the neighbors or on the street corners? There should be camaras everywhere when children are catching a bus, that is for sure and certain!

The British press are reporting that her body has been found.

I live in central Pa and my local radio said the same thing about an hour ago. No details just they found a girl and they are pretty sure it is Jessica Ridgway. They said body, so of course not a good ending for this situation. I was hoping that another beautiful little girl's life wouldn't end badly, I guess I was wrong. My condonlences to her family and friends at this rough time.

What kind of freakin country do we live in? Every day one reads about the most horrific kidnappings, chld abuse and sexual abuse, rapes, killings, stabbings and, yet,we call this country a 'great' country. Ha ha ha. Prisoners get off easy and then get out, write a book and make millions.

The fact that pedophiles can go on line and access that crap is sickening. And that with a click of the mouse, little kids can access some of the most disgusting, stomach churning porn you can think up. There has got to be a way to close down those sites immediately.

NO, this is not a great country. It's a country where you have to watch your back and fear your neighbors, where you know kids are learning about the most vile forms of sex through their computers, where pedophiles can have a field day, where decency is sacrificed for freedom of speech. This country sucks.

There's nowhere you can go that's safe. Nowhere. Slamming this particular country won't change that. Feel free to go somewhere else and see how safe it turns out to be.
Screwing little girls isn't even a crime in many countries and tourists take sex vacations to get their hands on kids in some countries. Depravity isn't an American flaw, it's a predominately male crime, btw. The reason that there are child prostitutes is that some of your your neighbors - no matter where you live - are trolling for children. That they're grotesque and creepy doesn't even occur to them.

Could someone be traveling along the interstate highways and taking children?
