Police: Search for missing Colorado girl continues; body found nearby is 'not intact'

Barry Gutierrez / AP

Police search near the 9800 block of Alkire St. on the west side of Stanley Lake in Arvada, Colo., on Thursday. Police are not saying whether a body found in Pattridge Park on Wednesday is linked to the disappearance of 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway.

A body found in Arvada, Colo., during the search for missing schoolgirl Jessica Ridgeway is "not intact," delaying the official identification of the remains, police said Thursday.

AP

Jessica Ridgeway disappeared while making the short walk to school Friday.

Westminster Police spokesman Trevor Materasso said police have not tied the discovery of the body to the search for the missing girl, however, they hope to have a positive ID on the body by Friday.

The body was removed from Pattridge Park in Arvada -- an area dotted with abandoned coal mines about five miles southwest of Westminster -- by police just before 9 p.m. Wednesday (11 p.m. ET).

Authorities said Wednesday that they believed Jessica, a fifth-grader with blond hair and glasses who loves math and gym class, had been abducted. She disappeared Friday on what should have been a short walk to school in Westminster.

In their search for Jessica, police have dismissed any connection to several related cases.

In one, police in Portsmouth, N.H., said there was no link between an abandoned car with a Colorado license plate found at a Walmart and the investigation into Jessica’s disappearance. Instead, police said the car belongs to a woman who recently moved from Colorado to New Hampshire, and she parked at the Walmart because she doesn’t have parking at her home.

In another, police said they were investigating whether Jessica’s case might be related to that of another girl who was abducted for several hours Monday in Cody, Wyo.

Police explore link between missing Colorado girl and Wyoming abduction

Police discover human remains during a search for a missing Colorado girl. NBC's Jay Gray reports.

In that case, a man lured the 11-year-old girl into a sport utility vehicle, saying he needed help finding his puppy. The girl was released four hours later and was discovered by hunters. Police there are looking for a white man, between 55 and 60 years old, with short, strawberry-blond or white hair and a neatly trimmed mustache.

Westminster police spokeswoman Karlyn Tilley noted there is "no specific connection" between Jessica's disappearance and the Wyoming case. "It's just like everything else they're looking at," Tilley said Wednesday. "They just don't want to leave any stone unturned."

Adding to the mystery was a reported sighting more than 2,000 miles away in Dexter, Maine.

A woman reported seeing a girl who looked like Jessica on Sunday, in a blue Buick station wagon with Colorado plates. Authorities issued a statewide alert for officers to stop any blue Buick station wagons with Colorado plates, Dexter police Sgt. Alan Grinnell said.

Citizens also have passed on tips from Maryland, Texas and Nevada, Materasso said.

In Colorado, the parents of a missing 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway open up for the first time since their daughter disappeared on her way to school. They vow to "never stop looking." NBC's Miguel Almaguer reports.

Police release new photos, video in search for missing Colorado girl

Backpack, water bottle found
Police in the Denver suburb of Westminster repeatedly have urged the public to study the details of Jessica’s face in a photo — a small, gap-toothed grin, a slight bruise on her nose — and a short home video, in hopes they may have seen something or come across the girl.

The only real clue police have revealed is the discovery over the weekend of a backpack and water bottle that Jessica had with her when she disappeared.

The items were found in the town of Superior, some six miles from her home. Police won't discuss what was found in the bag or testing results on it.

The search for Jessica went national, thanks in part to social media and a Facebook page set up to help find the girl.

"Do your good deed of the day and retweet Jessica's photo," hundreds of Tweets urged Wednesday.

Kathryn Scott Osler / The Denver Post via AP

After giving the interview, Jessica's mother Sarah Ridgeway and father, Jeremiah Bryant, embrace at the Westminster Police Department Tuesday.

This is so very sad. I feel for all the family involved in this. I hope that they find the culprit(s) and bring them to justice. What a waste of such a young life. I hope the identity of the body is released soon for all involved. It is someone's loved one. I can't even imagine what these parents and the family are going through, not knowing if it is their child or not.

Teach your children well, "the I've lost my puppy or kitten" ruse is an old one, but unfortunately it still works. "Stranger danger" does not work. The best we can do is teach our children and hope for the best. There are predators out there. Sad we live in such a world where the children are not safe.

Oh man. I really hope they do find her safe and unharmed and that the body they found is not her however, they "did" find someones body which is very unfortunate for whoever it may be. Just looking at the mothers face crying welled my eyes up. I just could not imagine.....

I don't understand why they would say that there is no specific connection with the Wyoming case. I mean, do you think the same guy is going to strike in the same place twice?! I would think not.

2,000 miles away and someone spots a car with Colorado plates and a girl inside that resembles Jessica. We "HAVE" cell phones man! That person should have dialed 911 and followed that car while giving location details until the police could check it out.

My prayers go out to Jessica and her family...

This is such a shame, how in the world can this happen? My brother has a daughter this age, he doesn't allow her to walk anywhere. If she goes next door to play with the neighbor a call is placed on both ends and she is watched all the way to the door. No returning home without the call back first. Such a shame we live in such fear. A kid just can't be a kid anymore.

First is my complete sympathy for the family, and hopefully the little girl will be found alive somewhere.

But I find it somewhat disturbing that they found someone dead, but they are not sure who it is. Is it common that bodies are found there that it is just like "yeah, well, we found someone, but we aren't sure who it is yet, but we will probably figure out who this one was eventually"?

Gary Cooper - they didn't say the police didn't know who the body was, they said they're not releasing that info yet. I'm sure they need to positively identify the body before they can go public with the news. So sad, I truly hope this isn't her.

Sam, agreed. And a 40 to 50-year-old man doesn't just one day decide to start kidnapping, raping and murdering little girls. This guy has done it before and gotten away with it, likely molesting and raping for years, then moving on to murder. If only these men could be caught in their teens/twenties, neutered and then either put down or put away for life. But the United States will never do what's right to protect innocent citizens, especially physically vulnerable girls and women, preferring to give sick young men the 'boys will be boys' benefit of the doubt ... till the bodies start piling up. Someone in his family knows who this monster is and has been protecting him for decades.

This is the very reason little kids should NEVER walk to a "nearby" bus stop or that short block or two to school. I do sympathize with her parents (especially her father) but to me, when things like this happen you can't help but to lay some of the blame on the parents for letting that child walk to school. Her father lives in another state so it's obviously not of his negligence, but it is her mothers. I'm not blaming her or saying she didn't care, but you just don't let your ten year old daughter walk to school by herself. So many kids are kidnapped, raped, tortured and murdered because of carelessness.

I have two young boys of my own (7 & almost 5). We live in a very small town but my boys are escorted to and from their bus every morning and every afternoon. You never know what could happen. I can't imagine being in her parents shoes right now. My boys are my world. When they're not at school, they are at home with my husband and I. Every other weekend my in-laws keep them overnight. My mother-in-law picks them up on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 P.M. and brings them home Sunday afternoon at 2:00 P.M.. Honestly, I'm a nervous wreck for those next 24 hours that they're not with me. I know at some point you have to "cut the cord" but I can't help it. I am overprotective, I'll admit that. But not so overprotective that they're not allowed to get out of my sight. I don't have a leash on them or anything, but I KNOW where my children are 24/7. Makes me sick to think something might happen to them. Like I said earlier, I'm not "blaming" her mother, but damn. She "watches her walk out the door" and then shuts it behind her. If they live so closely to her school or bus stop, she should be able to take those very few minutes it takes to walk to school to go with her, or atleast drive her there if possible.

Either way, I am so VERY sorry for that family. The last week has obviously been hell for them all, but the next few days will be worse. They are definitely in my thoughts.

Here's my take on this: Anyone who is convicted of kidnapping & raping a child (whether it ends in murder or not) needs to be put away FOREVER. They WILL do it again, and if the first one or two do not end in murder it WILL escalate to that eventually. People like this need more and more stimulation to satisfy their sadistic needs. There's NO cure for these animals. Put them away the first time BEFORE they start killing their victims! It's the only way!

The real culprit, Paul, is the person who murdered her. When I was eleven I was babysitting my newborn brother. She's only a year younger than I was. People like you who blame everyone but the murderer are part of the problem. Her mother saw her leave for school, she wasn't alone.

I agree.. who sleeps thru phone calls when you know your daughter is at school or should be. Regardless if you worked all night. A mothers job is NEVER done. What if something happened at school. She was hit by a car or became seriously ill? A caring mother would have taken steps to prevent "sleeping thru a phone call from the school". I hate to put even an ounce of blame on the parent... but just imagine what IF the mother answered right away and the cops were immediately notified... a lot can happen in a few hours or even an hour.. and maybe they would have better luck at finding her sooner if the mother was a little more concerned for her little girls safety?? Sorry just my observation on this whole thing. Thoughts and prayers go out to this family... This would be an absolute nightmare.

@Tracy-Are you kidding me? She wasn't neglected. Mom worked third shift. Sent her off to school and then went to bed. 10 year olds are perfectly capable of walking 3 blocks to school/friends hose/whatever. You cannot make your children live in a bubble. The statistical probabability of a child getting kidnapped raped or whatever is so small. Your child has more of a chance getting kidnapped or harmed by your in laws you let take your children then by a stranger. At ages 7 & 5, no I wouldn't let them walk alone either but 10 is a different story. Please do not suffocate your children. They will never learn how to grow and be independent.

The sad fact of the matter is, they found a body...which means if it is her, she's dead. ZIf it isn't her, someone else is dead and she is still missing.

You really need to be understanding when it comes to identifying bodies...I mean, would you want someone telling you it's her if it isn't? Or even vice versa...

Blaming the parents is a little harsh right now...you don't know what situation they are in job wise...you don't know if the (single?) mother took all the necessary precautions when her daughter went to school...

these sick bastards will never change, if they catch him, he will have a record of doing these things, they should never be given a second chance, lock them up and throw the key away.

Said it before and I'll say it again........if someone is convicted of or caught in the act of committing this type of crime against children, they should be put to death within moments of the coviction. And not by lethal injection either. They deserve to be shot IMO. No blindfold either. This type of person will never stop hunting and hurting children so until they start being put down like the rabid dogs they are, they will continue this reign of terror. I am just entirely sick of hearing about children being kidnapped, raped and murdered. If predators know they will be shot almost immediately after being convicted, they will start to get the message or, at least, there will be less and less of them around. Preying on a kid is easy for these types. Let's see what happens when they have to deal with adults! The crazy thing is, I consider myself as being against the death penalty but in these instances, death for the predators cannot come soon enough!

If this is in fact the body of this poor child, the only thing that immediately comes to mind is at least she's not being tortured by some freak animal any longer. However, if they catch this complete POS and he has a former record, which he probably will; they need to start executing these animals the FIRST time they commit a crime like this. On too many occasions, when a young person is raped, tortured, sexually molested and killed, the trash that does it usually has served time for previous sexual predator offenses. Kill them the first time and it can't happen again. They should also make it very easy for anyone to check a database to see who the sex offenders are in a particular area. Don't make it difficult. There's a website called "felonspy.com" that allows you to put in any address in any state and it shows who has a felony conviction and where they live. It's worth logging on and you will be amazed at how many felons live near you.

Please, instead of saying, "Teach your children not to go off with strangers," let's say, "Supervise your children to and from school." Children should not be walking to school alone. I don't care how much you teach them, a ten year old girl is no match for a man, any man. She could be literally dragged into the car kicking and screaming and gone in a second.

Amy Lavallee, Because her mother works night shift somehow deems her uncapable of walking her daughter three blocks to school or even driving her there? I think not. And yeah, ten year olds are totally capable of walking three blocks to school by themselves. Oh wait. No they're not. Because there are sicko's out there picking them up off the damn sidewalk, taking them home or anywhere else they want and doing whatever they want to them. That's the very reason we're having this discussion. Hell, sixteen year olds get abducted off the side of the road. And sixteen year olds should definitely be able to walk to school by themselves but the reality is, they CAN'T. By the way, please refrain from giving me parenting advice. My parenting isn't on trial here. My boys are VERY well taken care of, minus the "bubble". They are far from living in a bubble, believe me. I suppose I'm a bad mother because I know where my kids are at all times. Well I'm sorry (not really) but if that's what you or anyone else thinks, I could really give a @!$%# less. My kids safety and health are my number one priority. Also, if I thought my children were in ANY type of danger by going to my in-laws, you can bet your sweet ass they wouldn't be at their home.

Also, I didn't say that her mother "neglected" her. I said due to her mothers negligence, this happened. I know what the word means and there are several "types" of negligence. You took it as I was saying basically her mother didn't pay any attention to her or care that she walked to school by herself. That's not what I was saying. I'm saying that by her not walking with her or driving her to school, her haphazardness she was putting her daughter in danger. For all we know, some sicko has been watching her and her routine and waited for the perfect moment to snatch her.

Oh and my name isn't Tracy...

I know this is an emotional response (it's an emotional story) but the penalty for abducting a child anywhere in the US--even one who is returned safely--should be capital punishment in the Federal Justice System.

I'm not saying the accused shouldn't get a fair trial by jury. I'm not saying the appeals process should be interrupted. I'm saying that if you're convicted of kidnapping a child, your ass should sit on Death Row.

My opinion, for what it's worth.

F Walsh, not true. The little girl was alone.

Her mother watched her walk out of the house. The little girl walked alone from her home to meet her friends on the way to school.

Parents, don't make it easy for the predators. Predators drive around all the time just watching and waiting.

Predators dream is when they find a kid walking by themselves. Parents need to remember this.

Tracy, or whoever the hell you are that is using the name Tracy...lol,

That last comment is the most likely to me. These types of people are careful and methodical. They don't want to get caught because then they can't continue their sick lives. These people are bad apples...out on a limb since we dont know completely what's up; I think that anybody willing to kidnap, molest and/or murder a child should be wiped off the face of the planet first offense. They are sick in a way that cannot be cured.

The American people need to have a conversation about how to deal with these kinds people permanently. We all know their sicknesses get worse and worse as they have to escalate to get their kicks. Why do we have to wait until it results in the death of a child to put the hammer down on them. There should be a special class of criminal law that allows for the execution of any person convicted of kidnapping, molesting or murdering a child. And I don't want to hear any of that crap about God only has the right to end a life. He gave us brains for a reason.

You must have trouble with your reading comprehension skills, then! If you've truly been following this story and reading information about it instead of making things up and deducing things yourself, you would know that your information is just wrong. First of all, Jessica lives with her mother and grandmother. Her father moved out of state to find work and is as involved in her life as he can be. He and Jessica's mother have been working on a joint custody agreement. Her mother works nights and her grandmother works days. They're a typical family who are trying to make ends meet and doing their best to ensure that they have two incomes coming into the house and that Jessica isn't "left to fend for herself"--when one is at work, the other is home. Jessica's bus used to come to the corner near her house and her mother or grandmother would wait at the bus stop with her. Due to budget cuts, the bus route changed to include fewer stops and Jessica would have to go farther to catch the bus to school. She begged her mother to allow her to walk to the park to meet her friends so they could catch the bus together and to be "on her own". After weeks, her mother reluctantly agreed. Children need to learn independence! You can't coddle them and walk them everywhere forever. Jessica is 10, not 6. Your assertions regarding the lifestyle of Jessica and her family are patently false, not to mention ridiculously judgmental. CPS should have been involved? Yeah, because Jessica lived in a stable home with a loving mother and grandmother, was well taken care of, had her father actively involved in her life, and was a happy child, CPS surely should have removed her to a foster home where no one cares about her. What an idiotic thing to say, Paul!!

And BTW, the real culprit is the man/woman who abducted her. Nice how your "opinions" shift all blame off of him/her and onto the parents because of your inability to understand what you read, your gross misinterpretation of information given to you, and your judgment. Disgusting!!

children are sometimes abducted and sometimes targeted. but this sounds like an abduction. i am an older woman now but my told me when i was young never get into a car with someone you dont know even if they offer you candy, money or i lost my pet help me find it. i feel for the family. but i truly believe its not safe for children to be walking to school and some kids do have to walk alone. everyone pays for those schools buses all children should be able to ride them. start earlier and have the bus drivers pick up more kids.if a truck driver can drive 16 hours a day. these bus drivers can pick up the kids.i walked a mile and a half to school everyday with two sexual predators living in my neighborhood. and sometimes some of the mean kids would throw rocks.my mom had to walk to school with no shoes in the cold but fortunately she did not have this problem.

jeannette--made many erroneous assumptions about overweight people lately? Just a little bit prejudiced, maybe? Just because she is overweight does not mean she is incapable of walking. I am just a bit smaller than the mother of little Jessica, and my job involves constant walking. I also go walking for exercise several times a week. Oh, and those " scooters" are not available for free to anyone overweight! Sounds like you spend too much time in front of the TV believing those commercials. To get a motorized scooter, you must either be able to pay for it outright, or have a doctors prescription that will cover only PART of the cost, leaving the remaining balance for the recipient to cover. Nothing is ever free in this country except heartache and the opportunity to enlighten oneself. Do us all a favor and seize the opportunity to enlighten yourself so that we do not have to read your bigotted, ignorant comments.

Tacy, you must subscribe to the Mitt Romney plan! You sound to me like the type of judgemental person who would condemn the mother whether she WORKED a full time job trying to provide for her daughter and could not walk her to school, or whether she stayed at home on welfare and did walk her daughter to school! You DID in fact accuse the mom of neglecting her daughter--no matter how you try to re-word or re-explain it, you did! You need to stop judging other parents cuz Karma is a real big bite in the A$$! The police have stated that the parents had nothing to do with this, and are blameless. Millions of children walk to school every day and do not encounter this horrible situation. It is obvious that many children in that exact neighborhood walk to school every day and arrive safely, and this case is just a horrible sick act by one individual. Young Jessica had probably walked that route for a couple years with no problems, leading the mom and other moms in the area to feel confident that their children could walk a couple of blocks safely.

Stop judging others, as you are not perfect! I am sure our Lord is not judging her, what gives you the right?

Frankly the "10 years old shouldnt be walking to school because there are perverts out there" comments are driving me nuts.

It's really no different than saying Adult Women shouldnt ever be alone because an adult man might rape her...and the subsequent conclusion, if she were alone and then raped, isn't it really all her fault?

what a joke most of you are, thinking you're doing everything right and the odds say - at least 1 in 3 of you will have a daughter who is sexually molested or abused at some point in her life. might not be when she's 10, but it might be when she's 20...and will you be at fault for that? or will the monster who sexually abuses your child (no matter her age) be the one responsible?

and worse yet, will you even CARE if your daughter is raped, but not killed? I mean, given societies attitude, maybe she asked for it? after all...isnt it our jobs to live in a bubble so horrible men never do rotten things to us?

Jessica, I truly hope you never have children. Yes, the odds are that most children won't be abducted. That doesn't mean parents shouldn't ensure their kids' safety to and from school. Children walking alone and even children walking in groups are at a FAR greater risk than a grown woman. And it doesn't matter how much they know about stranger danger, they lack the strength to properly defend themselves. Comparing an elementary school aged child to an adult woman is ludicrous.

texas - I grew up in a similar boat, although my father wasn't dead...he was just a deadbeat. My mom worked - at times - 3 jobs to make ends meet, which meant she often couldnt do all the things "good parents do". Like walk me to school.

i gotta imagine the people who think every child should be hand held until the age of 18 must be extremely rich and have one parent who doesnt work.

must be nice for them, it's a shame not everyone has access to well paying 9-5 jobs.

1devon - I hope you dont have a daughter, 1 in 3 chance - regardless of what you do - she'll be sexually abused.

GOOD LUCK. I hope you have a rather large bubble for her.

Or maybe you have a boy, and therefore, arent worried at all...because it's not like your boy might be the ones sexually abusing girls, right?

again, GOOD LUCK TO YOU. @!$%# doesnt just happen to and from school, it happens in your backyard, in a friends house, in a relatives garage...on the playground at school.

i dont suspect you are watching your child every second of the day, are you?

or maybe, you're ok with girls being sexually molested...so long as they arent kidnapped and killed? it's hard to understand your point.

do you know that men break into houses and snatch little girls to? do you sleep with your daughter to make sure this doesnt happen? if not, you suck as a parent.

the devil is alive and well and living in the world today. there are some sick and demented people out there who are going to follow the devil and do his dirty evil deeds. its up to christians to help make the world a better place to live. God allows man to make choices good or bad. this is why there is so much suffering and evil in the world because there are bad people. retribution will come a the end of time when Christ will come back and God will judge the wicked and throw them in the lake of fire to burn forever.

Jessica, I DO have a daughter. When she was in school, I made damn sure she got to and from school unharmed. When she left for college, I gave the advice that all parents give: stay in a group as often as possible. Don't put yourself in compromising situations, etc. When she finished her degree and started working in a hospital, both the hospital and my husband and I gave the same advice: when leaving at night, try to leave in a group. If you can't, the hospital has security, use them.

She's alive and well and has never been sexually assaulted. No, you can't prevent everything. That doesn't mean you don't try, and for god-sake an elementary aged little girl is NOT a grown woman! Or even close to a young adult.

Using the fact that parents have to work is no excuse. We worked too. We networked with other parents and we all made sure our kids arrived at school alive and supervised. This mother could have easily delayed going to bed until her daughter was safely at school. She chose not too. If she had, this child would most likely be alive and well. My heart goes out to her but I have more sympathy for the child who is most likely dead.

Jeanette: seriously?! Your post is utterly ridiculous with its assumptions and ignorance.

The mother was lulled by routine, that was her mistake but understandable. You see your child safely off to school day after day along with lots of other unsupervised kids and you become complacent. Let's be reminded-of and learn-from the mother's unintentional mistake and get serious on sex-related crimes and offenders. It's almost impossible to know when there is a pedophile in your midst until they commit a crime and someone brings it to light; this is sadly how an offender can victimize more than one child and continue to do it. However, after the first convicted offense, put them down like a rabid dog or lock them up for life.

My heart goes out to this family and that little girl. I hope she comes home alive and her abductor/attacker is caught and gets a bullet between the eyes.

@ Tacy- Who gives a crap what your name is, or with whom you leave your kids? This isn't about you. It is about a missing kid and a grieving family. You know nothing about how this child was cared for, other than the fact that a 10-year-old was allowed to walk 3 blocks alone to her bus stop. Your parenting isn't on trial here, and neither is the parenting of the grieving mother.

My heart goes out to all involved.

> i hope they find the scum that took the girl...before he does it again...

Wake up. This is the 21st century. Women have come out of the closet and proclaimed their 'love' for girls too. If you're onling looking for one gender, you might as well not be looking at all.

> Her Dad lives in another state. Doesn't he look lovely with his brass knuckle tattoo? Her mother, left to do all of the parenting, was too lazy to walk or drive her to school.

This illustrates problems on both sides of the equation. Children NEED TWO parents. Only one parent should work and the other should be a full-time parent. Otherwise, leave your kids alone and ....

Secondly, it is highly likely that the suspect in this case is not in a relationship. No excuse. But with so many people out there chasing selfish lives and money, many don't seem interested in a real relationship any more. People will satisfy their needs with whatever means is available. Society needs to take a real close look at itself. I think things were way better 50+ years ago.

Sorry to point it out to you guys but the child walked 1 block by herself and then walked the last 2 blocks with friends she met up with at the park. 1 block is not that far to walk alone and the neighborhood doesn't sound like a decrepit crime ridden neighborhood. These things unfortunately happen both to rich people and poor people alike. Look at Elizabeth smart her family had money and that nut job took her out of her own bedroom. This guy has probably been planning this for a while and decided to make his move. I hope they catch him and then put him down like a rabid dog. Pray for that little girl.

I don't care how much you teach them, a ten year old girl is no match for a man, any man. She could be literally dragged into the car kicking and screaming and gone in a second.

Yes, and neither are many girls over the age of 18, or even fully grown women, a match for a man. In fact, I've heard of waaaaaaaaaaaay more fully grown women being attacked or murdered than kids. So what's the solution? If you're female never go out without supervision, EVER?

At some point kids need to be allowed a level of responsibility. There is a school a couple of blocks from my house and every day scores of kids walk there by themselves. I work a couple of blocks up from a high school, taking public transport to get there. Guess what, there's hundreds upon hundreds of kids all getting to school on their own, every day without incident.

Robo and Justice, the problem with your thinking is you are leaving out the fact that it's typically elementary aged school children who fall victim to this. Can and are women victimized, as well? Of course.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't supervise children to and from school. Child predators watch neighborhoods....like yours. The learn the pattern. They see who is walking to school alone, learn the route the child takes, know EXACTLY how long that child is unattended and then they strike. On the way to school or on the way home are perfect opportunities for predators. They take those opportunities when parents allow them to.

Sad when people think supervising elementary aged school children is just too much of a bother. The FACT is, this was preventable. This mother was awake when the child left the house. If she had simply supervised her child to school one way or another, walked with her, driven her...whatever, this kid wouldn't be dead. We're probably only talking about her delaying sleep for half an hour or so. I guess that's too much trouble for many adults. Pity.

So here we sit. A body has been found yet they will release NO information until tomorrow. That is what the police just stated on the noon news. Can you at least say if it is a body of a child? The gender of the body? If it is Jessica then you can confirm it tomorrow but at least let us know what you found. What DO you know? If it is Jessica the body has not completely discomposed in this short of time period. FRUSTRATING!!! I understand the need to conceal information pertaining to the case but WHAT did the police find??? They keep asking for the public's help but then refuses to share whether we need to keep looking or not.

1devon, I know you feel justified in your thinking but You missed my point. My point was: stop blaming the parents. If a preditor is after your child he or she will wait for any opportunity to take your child. It doesn't matter if your rich or poor these sick people wait for any opportunity and will take advantage of it. How many times here in the last couple of years have we heard of kids kidnapped from thier own homes with the parents sleeping just down the hallway? You cannot protect your child 24/7, all you can do is take reasonable measures to make sure that they are safe. Too many here are blaming the mother for not walking her to the bus stop.

Does anyone here remember Jaycee Duggard and how her stepfather walked her to the bus stop and that piece of nastiness took her with him standing there? Too many people blamed him for the crime and didn't focus on the true criminal. people need to focus on the animals that do this and lock them away for life or put them down like a rabid animal because that is what they are deranged animals. Only sick people would ever hurt a child. Also there is no cure for this disease...

    TACY --

You can get some peace of mind by enrolling your kids in self-defense/martial arts. I'm not saying that a 7 y/o can learn to flip a 170 lb adult, that's not what it's about. But martial arts/self-defense teaches children to show AUTHORITY, and it is this AUTHORITY that scares away these pedophiles. These cowards do NOT like a feisty, non-compliant child and they will give up very quickly in their effort to abduct them if the child shows any kind of authority. Size and body weight don't matter.

There are plenty of cases where a simple kick to the knee sent the coward running. How many times have we read about an "attempted" abduction but "the child got away" or "fought off the man" ? No, this doesn't mean the child body-slammed him. It means that he or she put up their best fight and this scared off the man.

Other children will freeze with compliance because they have not been taught authority. I recall the recent story of that charming little black girl with the glasses who got very physical with a man who tried to abduct her 4 y/o cousin! He wimped out and ran!

To JEANNETTE and others who blame Jessica's mother's obesity on her not walking the six blocks round trip:

She works a night shift and I'm sure is on her feet quite a bit. Another six blocks would not have mattered. I saw an image of her wearing medical scrubs, so it's possible she's a nurse's aid or something like that, on her feet constantly. I also heard she works at a bar--again, on her feet. I doubt a third shift is an 8 hour desk job. She has no trouble walking. She can't run, but doesn't mean she can't walk six blocks. I just don't understand what she thought she COULD do if she witnessed an abduction while she watched Jessica walk down the street. For Pete's sake if you're going to stand there and watch, then at least take that time to walk with your kid. If you're not there, then you're not there to watch or walk with them, but if you're there to watch, then walk with them.

This would have delayed her mother 10-15 minutes getting to bed. No bid deal. Stop using her night shift as excuse for why she didn't walk the girl. I keep hearing you can't keep your kids in a bubble, but as it already was, Jessica WAS being accompanied by the other children the remaining distance to school, so walking her the first three blocks would NOT have bubbled her any more than her classmates were bubbling her the remaining distance.

    @WRYVIEW:

WELL. I am pretty sure she has a cell phone, she could have the ringer for the school be extremely loud and hard for her to "sleep thru".... Just a thought. or possibly sleep next to the phone if she didn't have a cell. I know there are ways to silence calls you don't care for and then there are ways to make the important ones like for instance; your childs school, extremely hard to ignore especially if you are on a schedule of sleeping during the day..... I doubt the school calls her frequently and interrupts her sleep to say "hey hows it goin"..... a school calls for very important reasons.. 1. If something happened to your child. 2. They are Ill. 3. A school closing.... or the most important: YOUR CHILD IS NOT IN SCHOOL should we be worried? I had a scare awhile back... my daughter missed the bus the school called me at work. I immediately left work, drove to my house by the time I got home the school called back and said she just walked in... missed the bus and lollygagged to school... :/ safe but made everyone a nervous wreck. Case and point the schools call for a reason, everyone should take precaution not to "sleep thru" their phone calls... and there are many, many ways to prevent it. If you care that is...

For people who think we should not overly supervise or let our children grow up in a bubble, let me tell you a true story about my oldest son. He's now 11, two years ago, we took a vacation to (guess where, Colorado). While there, we attended at local outdoor Boulder activity. Now my son is slightly autistic so he has some developmental issues. I literally took my eyes off him for ten seconds, when I turned around he was about 30 yards aways from me, walking away with a strange man. I quickly followed them and caught up with them. I didn't initially confront him but I did ask him about the boy he was with. He started to pass off my son as his own. At that point I took one step back, drew my legally concealed .45 and told him to get on the ground. I called 911 and the guy was taken into custody...one more potential child molester (maybe murderer) taken off the street. Yes, as parents, you do have to watch your kids 24/7. You can't be over protective enough nowadays.

1devon, rape and sexual assault (when it comes to adults) has little to do with "sexual attraction". It's about control and power over another human being. Furthermore, the majority of sexual offenders offend against adults AND children. True pedophiles who are only attracted to pre-pubescent children like Jessica are fewer and farther between than most people are led to believe by sensationalist media stories and ridiculous commentary on internet forums. Why, oh why are there so many young children, and younger adult women being kidnapped these days, then murdered? My heart bleeds for the family and the little girl who might have been tortured to death. Was it a wild animal that got to her body first?

Young boys, including girls are molested each and every day, with the threat of death from Pedophiles.

Pedophiles are the filthiest dirt that walks on earth. Sentences for them should be Life Time Turns. In cases of multiple deaths, it should be the Death Penalty--even for the relatives who are the predators of these innocent children.

Please watch your children; have them walk in groups to school, never, never leaving them alone in stores, restrooms, anywhere---isn't it crazy our "Children" are being held Hostage in their own World by these creeps. They are not able to live the lives that most of us once had. Freedom---

They are a "Form" of Terrorists stalking the earth. There are several category of Terrorists, and these are the friendly, home grown ones in your City or neighborhood.

They are cheated out of having to living life in fear of a kidnapping, and/or murder. Children are our next Generation. What will they say about theirs?

I am not blaming the parents. I am saying parents have a choice to make it easy for them.....or not. When young children, especially elementary school aged kids, are walking to and from school alone, they are prime targets. Parents can hope nothing happens or they can do their best to make sure nothing happens. Yes, there are cases like Jaycee Duggard where an adult was present and something happened anyway, but come on...those cases are few and far between. There are far more cases in which a child was totally alone and snatched. Walking to and from school is predictable. And predators know this.

Marchant -- No, the jails aren't full of scumbags. They are full of non-violent drug offenders caught up in the corporate boon known as the War on Drugs. The scumbags get released to make room for these non-violent drug offenders due to the mandatory minimums so often imposed on the latter.

And a prediction for anyone who cares (and especially those wailing about boogeymen around every corner ready to prey on children)....at the end of this case, we will not find a boogeyman...the offender is right before your eyes. You have to wonder about a mother who cries with no tears -- it just feels so forced, so feigned. And compare her to the close-ups of the father -- his tears are real and that's because he wasn't there. Just a prediction....

How about a government that works the way it should, from the bottom up? I believe that was our founding fathers intentions.

During the year 1999 in the United States, 203,900 children were reported as the victims of family abductions and 58,200 of non-family abductions. However, only 115 were the result of "stereotypical" kidnaps (by someone unknown or of slight acquaintance to the child, held permanently or for ransom).

-National Center for Missing and Exploited Children

Stranger Danger is a myth. Statisically, you have a better chance for your child to be struck by lightning than to be abducted by a stranger. You can't possibly save any child from every danger in the world. Being overprotective doesn't help them.

You know a child can be abducted from a bus stop. It happens. Does everyone posting here walk their children to the bus stop and wait till the bus comes ? I would really be surprised because I have passed tons of bus stops with no parents present. Not long ago some guy tried to abduct a boy while his father was with him. Fortunately the father was faster and caught the guy. I think it's pathetic that of all the things people could post, they post things about how the parents failed. What ? -you know exactly what happened from reading this article ? I pray the parents aren't reading any of these comments, that's just what they need with everything else they are dealing with now unless of course they were involved, but I certainly can't tell that from reading an article. May God be with this family.

Wow, Nicolette and Branham/Short must be Phds in early child development and smother your kid club. I hope you can learn to let go by the time they join the military, (moms aren't allowed in the barracks, yet anyway.) and they generally don't see the humor of mom going on dates with them. It must be nice to be so very young and know everything. It must also make you feel all warm and fuzzy, criticizing a mother who has had her child stolen by a stranger. She is living the nightmare of not knowing what has befallen her child, where she is, or if she is still alive. Bravo!, good for you oh so perfects.

Sadly, children have been stolen 10 feet front a parent, at county fairs, malls, public libraries. No one is immune, not even those who think they have all the answers. It seems the gall of some of these freaks of nature know no bounds when it comes to snatching kids. With some the riskier it is, the more likely they are to do it. The more severely disturbed the offender the bolder they get. This clown that took this little girl has been doing it for some time, It ain't his first time, you can count of that. Chances are he watched her for a time before hand.

If, God forbid, you "Oh so perfect" folks should find yourself in this mothers shoes, I'll Remember your criticisms and your "I'm so perfect" attitude. I betting it will be heaped upon as you have done here. Karma's a B**ch and "What goes around, Comes around". Instead of ragging on a woman who is clearly beside herself with worry for her child, why don't you scream from the roof tops to do something with the traveling child molesting, raping abducting, creep show. No mercy, No quarter, if convicted give them a swift execution. Same for Rapists and serial killers. This coddling of the perverse must end, innocent lives depend upon it.

This had nothing to do with parenting, it was a horrible, random act. Obviously the mother needs to work to provide for her daughter and herself. @Tracy, I hope you never have to face any real obstacles in your life, you are obviously not equipped overcome them and you are certainly no child of Christ. Parents like you raise freaks like the one who shot up the theater. You are judgemental, are you God? You obviously have a perfect life with a perfect husband and perfect in laws. Good for you! Just know that one day you will slip up or your children will slip up but I am pretty sure with all that you know about parenting, you will overcome the occassion by blaming someone else.

My deepest symathy for the single, working mother. I am so sorry we live in this society devoid of compassion for a woman who has to be a mother and a provider. May God be with you and your family. Your daughter is 10 years old, she was old enough to walk to school. You are entitled to sleep after work especially under the premise your child is at school. Working third shift is tough and being a single mother is tougher. I hope your daughter is found safe and alive. I hope the abductor is caught and put away for life.

@Nichette - How do you know the mom didn't do ALL the things you suggest & STILL slept through the phone? I've done it. Some people sleep more deeply than others. You could put a bomb off next to my youngest child's head & not even make her stir. That is how deeply she sleeps. Just because YOU wake up to a ringing phone doesn't mean that everyone does or can.

Well I have to say I have never seen so many psychics in one place before!!!!!

Everyone of you making @!$%# up as far as what happened with no basis in fact is as low as you can get. There is a family that has a 10 year old girl missing and you want to see her Mother hang because she lets the kid walk to school. Those of you that think the Mama of this little girl is soooo bad because she works nights to support her family and lets her child be independent need to put your energies toward something useful. A parent should not need to drive a 10 year old that distance to school. You're making judgments based on opinions that other people make that are just a guess and makes no sense.

Then there are those of you that are just certain that she is lazy is the reason that she let's her kid walk to school. To get a kid in a position to walk themselves to school you have to show them the way and how to function out in the world. She did that and now she gets to have a kid who is more disciplined from doing things on her own and she also gets some exercise. Oh and just because she is Obese does not mean that she would easily get a cart to ride on and if she is anything like me she may qualify for one but does not want it. Some of you are so gullible here that I would not be surprised if I could sell you part of the everglades if I made a TV commercial selling it.

So go brush your kid’s teeth for them and be sure that the teacher knows that Johnny has to get a Big Blue Ribbon for his project or you will sue them for giving him bad self-esteem. And be sure you get a big enough car when he’s older so you can go with him on his dates and honeymoon. There are some really bad people out there.

I have to go do something productive now so I will leave you. Just remember to make sure you lay out your teenagers clothes the night before and mow the yard before he gets home. It would be horrible to think of a teenager mowing a lawn these days with all those safety devises we didn’t have that are on them now.

Oh and Tacy, go back to your Mama and demand the rest of your name. It’s just one letter, 1 lower case r. You could have gone through life not having to correct everyone that figures someone left it off. I can only imagine what you named your kids.

True pedophiles who are only attracted to pre-pubescent children like Jessica are fewer and farther between than most people are led to believe by sensationalist media stories and ridiculous commentary on internet forums.

Which is exactly what I said.

Where? That's NOT what you said (aside from the fact that you took one sentence out of several ans are responding to it completely out of context. My main point to you was your error in thinking as far as "sexual attraction" goes for sex offenders. In general, sex offenses are about power and control, not sexual attraction.). Your position on this thread, over and over again, is that parents must baby their children and walk them to the doorstep of school until they're grown adults because there are pedophiles everywhere. You make this point many times, sometimes using different words, but the point you make is the same. See where your comments are completely in discrepancy with each other?

@Wry: You very are right.. I don't know that and no one but the mother and little girl know just how much of a concern safety was... and maybe a psychic? Regardless, my original thought stands... if she always slept thru phone calls and was such a deep sleeper... what happened when the poor girl got sick and had to go home?? She had to stick it out cause the mom was "sleeping".. lame. I'm not a perfect parent and I feel horrible for thinking the way I do, perhaps I am profiling a bit but I can just imagine how things were :(... and i'm deeply sorry for all involved and especially what that poor little girl went thru and the real criminal is and always will be the demon who took her, not her parents. (I hope he burns in hell)... But I bet the mom wishes she would have done things a little differently. ps. I am not a Christian.... Far from, thank you :)

The person or people involved with kidnapping or worse with Amber will face God on Judgement Day. God says in the Bible, Vengence is MINE, sayeth the Lord. He or they will wish they never ever saw or did anything to this child. The devil does not get to do punishment on Judgement Day, only God does!

Not much of a wise god if he let's evil people run amuck, then waits for them to die, and then with a smile on his face judges them. Looks more like a twisted game than a wise and all powerful god. For those that blame God for not saving everyone from horrible things or from disease etc, think about how many more people would be on this earth if everyone lived to be 90+years old. We already have 7 billion on this planet, that number would be much much greater if no one died except by natural causes. The population is controlled through things like death, however unfortunate it occurs, infertility and homosexuality. These are necessary forces to help keep the population manageable.

Wisco ... yeah, we do know the gender of the kidnapper/rapist/murderer. For you to make such an asinine comment totally devoid of the realities of the violence that has perpetrated against this little victim and her family, indicates you're on parole or have a son/dad/uncle who is or has been in prison for these same crime(s). Not only should the predator's family bear the shame of producing this DNA defective monster, all families of criminals ought have to bear the cost of prosecuting and incarcerating their horrific relative. Perhaps, we wouldn't have 5 million men either in prison or on parole/probation in this country, if we had a prison system where the taxpayer coughed up for only the 3 hots and a cot - and nothing more, with all prison luxuries paid for by the criminal's family.

Now it is nothing to turn on the TV and see it no matter what time of the day and or TV station. We live in a SICK world where even Hollywood can make a buck putting sexual garbage on TV..People have become desensitized and it does not even bother them anymore to let their young girls go around with barely a shread of clothes on to say the least. They allow their young girls to wear make up earlier and earlier. Now they have reality shows where little TODDLERS are dressed up to look like older women with make up on and all kinds of clothes and jewerly meant for a much much older person. We call it entertainment. Hollywood caters to the lust of the EYE and feeds that horrible beast..We sit back and let it happen because we live in AMERICA land of the Free..Good stuff in good stuff out...BAD STUFF IN BAD STUFF OUT>>

littlechanges, Where in that story did it say that they KNEW the gender of the suspect? It says that they are "investigating whether Jessica's case might be related to that of another girl who was abducted for several hours Monday in Cody, Wyoming." That isn't a confirmation of the sex of a suspect. They're investigating. And sadly, the body that was found is more than likely that precious little girl, but they haven't confirmed that either. I'd say the authorities know it's her, they just haven't released the information to the family or the public yet.

And how do you come to the conclusion from the comment "Wisco" posted that it "indicates" they're on parole or have a family member that has commited a crime such as this? That makes absolutely NO sense whatsoever. Just because someone commits a heinous crime doesn't mean that their family should bare their burden and be looked down upon. They didn't commit the crime and they're not at fault for what someone in their family did. That's just ridiculous. You're saying that if one of your family members raped or murdered someone then the public should hold it against you too. The only circumstance when that should happen is if the family members knew the act was commited or was there when it accured, didn't try to stop it and stood up for that persons innocence. Talk about asinine comments...

What does it matter what gender the POS is? Seriously? Any person responsible for this or any type of crime like this and many others, deserves to be hung. Why not? Cheaper, and everyone gets to see someone pay for their wrong-doing! You all need to wake up. His/her comment toward Wisco418 is pretty much on a lot of others minds! It does not matter the POS gender in this case or any....everyone doing any crime like this does not deserve the gender card to play out what shall happen to them for their convictions.

I do not think that his family should have to bear the shame of what any criminal has done, however, that is the human way whether it is right or wrong. The families do not commit the crimes. Individuals do.

I don't know if I am the only one seeing all of this or not, but there seems to be a rash of crimes against children lately. Something is gravely wrong in this country! A few years ago, neighbors watched each other's homes and people tended to protect each other in a neighborhood. What has happened to that element in our society?

It seems like we have a terminally ill social problem and it needs to be tended to very quickly before we lose more young people.

People have no understanding of the loss of a child unless they have experienced it. They cannot comprehend the pain. However, they can help prevent these losses by being more alert...know what automobiles are traveling in your neighborhood on a daily basis. Sometimes, it's a good thing to be a nosy neighbor. You might save a child's life.

When I was young it's true that people watched each others homes and children. However some things have changed. People, especially in this summer are locked in their air conditioned homes--we used to sit on our porches or yards and talk to neighbors which you hardly see anymore. And then, people are so defensive about everything now, especially their children. My mother and other parents would mildly discipline and keep an eye on all children I played with as would the other neighborhood moms. Today you don't dare even suggest that another child has breathed a word or done a deed wrong.

                                BV and Carolyn,

I think we let predators out of prison too early. Look at Gerardo who kidnapped Jacye Dugard. He was sentenced to 50 years and only served 11 years. He convinced (conned) the parole board? What were they thinking, about lunch?

Phillip Gariddo was sentenced "to 431 years up to life". His wife was sentenced to 36 years.

There will be no parole hearings.

                                Way to go Rex:

Nothing quite like trying to sound like you actually know something, and sticking both of your feet in your mouth when you open it to make your feeble attempt at educating someone else.

Phillip Garriddo was arrested in 1972 for sexually assaulting a 14 year old girl, but was released when the girl refused to testify.

He was then arrested in 1976 for abducting and raping another girl. This time however he was convicted and sentenced to 50 years in a federal penitentiary. In 1988 he was released from Federal prison and sent to a Nevada state prison to serve a five years to life sentence. Nevada released him in 1988 after serving seven months of that sentence.

Then he kidnapped Jaycee who was 11 years old in 1991. For that and the years of imprisonment and rape he was given his current sentence

Rex I believe Arizona is talking about the first time he went prison for kidnapping a woman and holding her hostage at a storage unit. He was released for that crime after only 11 years and then went on to kidnap Jaycee.

SEVEN MONTHS?? only??. That means that he will probably be released from jail in a few more years.

I am in favor of a law that if you kil or rape a KID, (regardless if you were on drugs or drunk or whatever) do the same to that SOB right on the spot, but slowly, so he/her can suffer the same.....

@ Lord Foxdrake 360, Calling someone White Trash when you really do not even know them or their circumstances in life must make you feel very superior to say the least. You better hope they do not allow someone like you to sit on the Judgement seat of life where the real judges will be serving.

This was for a prior conviction stemming from an earlier abduction and brutal rape of a Lake Tahoe woman in the late 1970's or early 1980's. He kidnapped her, took her to a rented storage unit in Reno and raped her for 4-5 hours. Just her lucky day when the police knock on the door of the unit and stopped the rape in progress. Gerrado had the place sound proofed and had torture tools ready for when he took his victim there it was going to be violent and perhaps murderous. The abduction of Jaycee happened after an early release from prison. If he had served his 50 year sentence, chances are likely Jaycee would not of been a victim herself. AGAIN WE ARE FAR TOO LENIENT ON PREDATORS AND CHILD MOLESTERS. THANK YOU REX FOR YOUR YOUR FACT FINDING.

That is the stupidiest thing I have ever heard. What you are implying is that if you are poor, white, and live in a mobile home then you should expect your kid to be kidnapped an killed because it nevers happens to people of other colors and means. You are a friggin moron. Ever heard of JonBennet Ramsey or Elizabeth Smart. Kids are targets because they are weaker and because some sick sob has a thing for kids, nothing else. Btw, when they showed the house it wasn't a trailer. And her dad, who gives a rats a$$ about what kinf of tatoo he has, it has NOTHING to do with his daughter's disappearance. People make dumb mistakes as you have shown us by posting that idiotic statement. I for one, have always though it was a pedophile who targeted the little girl because he knew the families routines. I pray that the body isn't hers but the chance is slim. I hope they catch the monster who did this and make him pay. I hope the family can someday find peace.

This has zero to do with tattoos, or the parents walk of life. This has to do with some persons child being kidnapped and murdered. Focus on the situation at hand, instead of passing judgement.

The reason this happens to "white trash" instead of "rich people" is because rich people usually don't raise their children. Their nannies do. Therefore, she would have been walked to school everyday, or dropped off by a chauffeur, and probably would have grown up wondering why bad things happen to "white trash" with brass knuckle tattoos.

I was thinking the same thing about the parents and also felt the same way about that brass knuckle tattoo on his hand. How pathetic. And yes, that stupid tattoo says volumes about the guys character. And if you people can't see that, then you are truly blind. And, by the way, you can be poor and still not look like white trash. The term white trash is a phrase that relates to a person's character and how they choose to live. Frankly, Lord is correct. I wonder how many of you over-sensitive hate-mongers happen to be white trash. Nevertheless, what happened to this family is horrible and tragic. Nobody wants to see this happen to anyone, including this family.

                                      Lord,

Need I say more. Most everyone took the words right out of my mouth.

                                      PAJ,

Judging a book by it's cover leads to incorrect conclusions. There is a little 10 yr old girl missing and all you guys can write is what the family "LOOKS" like and judge them. Look at a lot of the famous actors/bands that make more in 6 months than you will in all your life "covered"in tattoos.

I guess if you didn't know they were multi-millionaires you'd say they were white or black trash. That is until you see their cribs. "THEN" judging a book by it's cover again, you'll say "oh" they're not trash anymore. Glad I don't personally know either one of you guys nor would I want to.

                                      Have a nice day...

Someone who would be that callous and cold, deserves nothing, not even condemnation, as he/she isn't worth your time. As for the body they found, it is someone who died, whether God forbid it is the girl, or someone else...someone lost a loved one today.

The body art was not lost on me. All too often they discover that one or both of the parents to be responsible. As far as judging someone you don't even know, there are many comments here judging some as yet unknown child killer and that as yet unknown person's family. I agree, there are not enough facts, yet. But I can GUARANTEE the police have thost two in their sights, and they will remain so up to and untill the 'real kiler' is found and caught. Think, Jess Simpson, mama of two dead babies, there are several others, but you get my point.

This shouldn't happen here at all, so the Taliban is what it is, even though the "government" supported it when it was politically "expedient".

American "society" and the killings, etc. that go on here are no better. As a matter of fact, this is probably a more violent country, as the headlines show day after day, multiple killings, registered sex offenders, probably by the thousands, and there are far more prisoners per capita than anywhere else.

-- Creek Dog

Tell me something Creep-Dog, are you really as dumb as you look or is that just a mask? People comment on numerous things about an article, such as this one. When I saw Lord getting beat up because of some accurate observations, I stepped in to offer support. It is truly amazing at how much BS ignorant @!$%#-faced idiots like them and you post on this and other boards that have no basis in fact. You people are full of misguided emotional responses and have nothing else to offer. I would normally explain this to you, but since your attitude demonstrates that you are incapable of understanding simple concepts, I won't waste my time.

However, I do feel it necessary to point out something that you apparently do not seem to understand, and I suspect others may fall into the same ignorant category as you. The terms "white trash" or "trailer trash" have absolutely nothing to do with how much money you have. It is a character trait or feature about the individual, not an examination of their bank account. And yes, you can be a multi-millionaire and still be white trash.

As for the girls disappearance, it occurs to me that since the distance between her house and the place where she was going to meet the other student was only about 3 blocks, it seems unlikely that she would be picked up by a stranger so randomly and so quickly. I suspect that the person who abducted her is someone she was familiar with, maybe a friend of the family or of her brass-knuckle tattooed father, and he/she was waiting for her at a predetermined spot. If this case is ever solved, this is probably what they will discover.

                                                  #6.29 - Thu Oct 11, 2012 5:49 PM EDT

                                                  PAJ,

OK, it's a mask. You got me. That said, I took the latter rendering me,"not stupid". LOL Thanks for the education on white trash.

You mention that you won't waste your time, however, you didn't.

Honestly, I was thinking the same thing whereas she probably knew the person. I wonder if the cops checked inside the nearby neighbors houses. Most likely they'd need a warrant and a cause so if a neighbor refused to invite the cops in, there would be suspicion. I've seen similar situations where the person missing was just about next door whether dead or alive.

All in all, I still cannot imagine what the parents are going through and if Jessica is still alive, what she's going through or went through if she's gone.

Growing up as a kid, I never thought that something like this could ever happen to another person or the fact that people actually would kill another person. When I was a teenager and realized this, it boggled my mind that someone could even do it.

                                                  Have a nice weekend...

It's the new American way, give criminals a spanking, stand them in the corner for a while, then turn them loose on society for a repeat performance time and time again. Then as if that were not bad enough, blow all of the American tax payers money taking care of the rest of the world and say to hell with the home front. It all lies square in the lap of our own incompetent, greedy self serving, no account gov. leaders. And don't say it has anything at all to do with societies wishes because we the people have not had a voice in what our own gov does for decades now, they do as they damn well please, but only after they have lied through their teeth to us in their bid to get elected.

I've been hoping they're wrong but even if they aren't, finding a dead body is hardly good news; someone's missing that person, whoever they were. My deepest condolences go out to Jessica's family, no one should have to go through this.

Perhaps people in this country should try this 'new' thing called PARENTING??!?!?! When you decide to HAVE children you have to also accept the responsibility. Tell me why she couldn't take a few minutes EVERY day to walk or drive that child 3 blocks? Please...some sort of REASONABLE explanation - especially since Jessica was ONLY 10 years old. My kids are 11 and 16 and I drive them to and from school EVERY DAY - no matter how 'tired' I may be. Their safety is MY responsibility and I take it VERY seriously. This country has gone to hell because NOBODY actually 'parents' their kids anymore. To me, this is a PRIME example of a lazy parent and the child has paid the ULTIMATE price. She was 10 years old - her PARENTS should have protected her. There needs to be some accountability here, people. That little girl is dead because her mother couldn't get her THREE BLOCKS safely. Period.

no matter how harsh it sounds you are right...All the bleeding hearts do is lendweight to the excuse that it's ok to let your young child to go out alone in the "real" American society" without being in a group....One day, two days , a month may go by with no incident, but in today's world you are rolling dice at a crap shoot.....The child is indeed the victim...but we need to wake up as parents and see the world for what it is....Job , money , homes, these things will never be as precious as our off spring.....Yet I hear people whine about what they have to do as a single parent and how hard it is...Do the little ones care, will that keep them safe......Fighting for better social needs and a different society is whats needed...instead of being a democrate or republican, Race and religious inspired, we as American citizens(ALL) need to start taking steps to ensure that America's wealth starts spreading to all fairly so that we never have to hear about a mother or father losing their child because they "HAD TO WORK AND ARE TO TIRED" to care for their child......I am not a socialist, but capitalism in this society has created a world of mentally and immoral people where caring and truth has been swallowed by greed, selfishness, and a lack of caring.....Don't blame the presient (AS SOME WILL DO) When have a society where the vast majority have to struggle to make it and so few living at the top...The bottom feeders come out.....God bless this child and help her parents find another way to build their life ,besides money is all additude.......ALL PARENTS NEED TO KNOW THAT NO CHILD CAN WALK AROUND AMERICA ALONE IN ANY COMMUNITY IN AMERICA....COLOR, RACE, RELIGION, SEX. NONE OF THIS MATTERS....kEEP YOUR CHILD IN GROUPS AT ALL TIMES

It's all part of the master plan to unravel the very fabric of this nation and take it out. This nation along with it's constitution and bill of rights is THE only thing standing in the way of the new world order and their desire for a one world government and they are doing one hell of a very efficient job at closing in on their objective. It's no ones fault but your own government. Period.

I don't care how far it is, three blocks or three feet, children should NEVER walk to school alone. This is reality of our modern age. Pedophiles and kidnappers target children who are alone. If your kid has to walk to school, they should walk in groups.

How do we stop this kind of thing? Quit listening to physological evaluations given by colladge educated morons who must prove they have absolutly no common sense left before they are allowed to graduate and then tell us it is wrong to in any way to punish your children when they misbehave. You cant traumatize them by making them feel that if they do something wrong they will suffer some consequence. "Give them a time out" Yeah that works!!! "If they want to have a tantrum make sure they do it in a safe place." How about if they have a tantrum you get to have one too! Only your tantrum hurts, Them! They quickly learn that tantrums are not acceptable and thereby learn self control. Self control? (For all you liberal socialist comunist slime,) That means that if the people around you are participating in a prayer before a game you dont have to believe in god but you can stand, (or sit if your an as$%^E) and quietly allow others to observe their beliefs. No one says you have to participate just show some respect! Especially since you are a tiny ridculoues miniority! IT means that as a minority you dont have the right to force the majority to conform to your standards. SELF CONTROL You dont like majority rule? move to cuba or iran and exercise your rights over there leave our country the way it was in 1960 before liberals took control of the rights of the majority, when your kids could play outside until it got dark and no one had to watch them every second. Before we were told its wrong to make people feel they cant exprss their perverted life styles and force their way's on the rest of us. Perverts and criminals all have rights to have victims. Victims have no rights, they dont need rights too bad if they cant afford insurance, poor criminal needed a fix he had a right to break into your house and take the things you worked for. There is no such thing as CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT FOR A PEDIPHILE!!! Of course making their perversion legitimate is probably next on the list of acceptable sexual deviations but the liberals need to finish destroying morality and finish with the same sex thing before they move on to ligitimizing pedophilia etc. Churchs suck they teach restraint and morality who needs that crap if it feels good do it! And by the way those of you who actually have jobs thank you for donating most of your paycheck so I can have a living without actually doing anything to earn it! DO I sound like a Liberal? HHMMM...

This girl walk three blocks to a park where she met up with her classmate(s) where they walked the final mile to school.

From Kindergarten to 8th grade, I walked eight blocks to school by myself, as did every other kid in my neighborhood. I'm pretty certain no kid had a parent drive them to school or walked with them. And to my knowledge, no little kid came up missing while walking to school. How long had this little girl been walking to school, and how long had the other kids, currently and in the past had been doing it with no issue?

You can't worry about every single scenario possibly happening. Otherwise you would give your kid a bulletproof vest in case of bullets and a hardhat in case a meteor falls out of the sky.

Melanie - when I was 10, we went outside to play first thing in the morning, came home for lunch, went back out to play some more, came home for dinner & went back out to play until dark. No supervision. Most kids in America used to play like that.

I find it interesting that in the video her mother was crying without tears, reminded me of the Susan Smith interviews. I know if it were my child who was missing, I would be so upset and frantic, they would have to sedate me...........just saying.

delainey - Everyone grieves differenly. Maybe she's dehydrated from crying so much that she has no tears left. Maybe she's just the type of person who doesn't cry when things are really horrific. I know that when someone close to me dies, I bottle it all up inside. Then when I see a stupid commercial or something, it all comes out then in a "safe" way. Everyone is different.

I agree with Shelly. Stranger danger is an old but unfortunately still present danger. You can't caution your kids enough on it. I encountered an incident in the 1960's at my house. Someone followed me there. So it is nothing new, maybe just more publicized. A pedophile or rapist will try just about anything-- in a car, at your house, in a shopping mall, etc. so teach your kids well. I feel so bad for the family of whoever this recently discovered person is. My heart goes out to them.

Sorry: this comment is not directed at anyone in particular...i clicked the wrong button :)

....So now it seems it is becoming acceptable to blame the victims instead of holding those who are truly responsible for allowing these predators to roam free...the justice system.

Maybe, task your police forces with identifying and tracking these sick pukes instead of using all their resources on beating protestors, protecting bankers/politicians and arresting legal marijuana dispensers. Where were the drones that fly over you all, when this child went missing? What with all the cameras now watching...everyone, they still could do nothing except stand there and look useless in their uniforms.

Personally, I think the citizenry has to change its perspective on what is considered 'criminal'.

In terms of balancing a natural truth - i suppose one could say that when a society chooses to kill women and children globally using policy and bombs, that this bird 'does' come home to roost, in the natural world. The children are paying the 'blood debts' created by your politicians and their secret societies, and the cowards (police forces, churches, courts) who do nothing to stop it and in most cases, passively assist the offenders by their cowardice, and political leanings.

So, while many have their noses buried in the bibles propaganda, or are sitting on their fat asses watching a bunch of mutants chase a cows ass around a field, or working to make the rich, richer - this is what is happening.

"The U.S. Department of Justice reports

                                                          • Nearly 800,000 children younger than 18 are missing each year, or an average of 2,185 children reported missing each day.
                                                          • More than 200,000 children were were abducted by family members.
                                                          • More than 58,000 children were abducted by nonfamily members.
                                                          • 115 children were the victims of “stereotypical” kidnapping. These crimes involve someone the child does not know or a slight acquaintance who holds the child overnight, transports the child 50 miles or more, kills the child, demands ransom, or intends to keep the child permanently."

I wonder how long it is going to be that men in the world understand

some of the pressure of being a female in today's society. Women and

girls have to be constantly on the watch as they are looked upon as prey

to these monsters. There is no way a guy can understand the pressure

that must take on women. I hope they find her alive, but in usual

circumstances like this, the child has already been silenced. I hope that they

can find this f***in' jerk. Find him guilty and then send him to Colorado state

Penn for the rest of his life. He will soon understand what it means to convicts

when you mess with women or children.

                                                          Again, this is very sad.

For an even more extreme case google the names Channon Christian and Eric Newsome.

but a wife, a daughter, a mother, a grandmother, an aunt, etc are a gift. If you get handed

a Ming Dynasty vase as a present you are not going to go outside immediately and tie it

to the back of your car and start driving. You would cherish, and care for the vase because of it's

value. Well, women are worth 10million times greater than any piece of glass.

Neil, you do know that boys get abducted too, don't you? Before they're 18 years old, 1 in 3 girls are molested and 1 in 4 boys are molested. Researchers think there are more boys molested than the 1 in 4 number but they don't report it as much.

This is not a female only thing.

Yes, I believe it will come down to the tracking device for children. One would think that everything has been said to our children to make them safer, but when you have a child against an adult, most times the child will lose.

We live in a world with a very dark side. We need to start thinking about serious defenses instead of the after the fact.

If it takes a tacking device as a first defense till they are are adults, that at least would alert the parents immediately if something were wrong. Maybe this poor child would have had a chance.

Until science figures out why and a way to stop what seems to be an epidermic of child predators, we need to take the next step.

Microchips should be implanted in kids as soon as they are born

As a parent, I hold HER responsible for Jessica's death and feel that she should be charged with child neglect. Jessica was 10 years old, still very much a child. Had her mother walked or driven that child to the safety of that group of kids, her daughter would still be alive. *being 99.9% positive that the body they found IS the body of little Jessica* And, whatever horrific experience Jessica had here on Earth, she is at a place of peace and love now. That poor little girl. I hope that, if there are more children at home, someone protects them.

You never walked to school as a kid? Lots of kids do, it's called daily exercise and learning responsibility. Besides, it's three blocks. If you want to hold the mother responsible because she's "lazy," then you'll have to condemn a whole lot of other people whose kids walk to school or ride their bikes.

Wow aren't you a judgmental witch? The girl is 10. I walked to/from school by myself further than 3 blocks when I was as young as 8 in the '80s. My father was NOT lazy--he had to work as did my grandmother with whom we lived. Many times, my great uncle would drive me during the harsh weather, but mostly I walked like a big girl. To blame the mother for the horrific actions of an absolute monster is grossly unfair, and you better pray it doesn't happen to you one day before you find yourself eating your horrible words. Judge not lest thee be judged.

Agreed....I walked 2 miles to and from Jr. High school...for 3 years. Rain or shine. When I went out to play, I roamed all over the place. However, no matter how far away from home I was, there was ALWAYS someone who would catch me doing something I shouldn't, and would call my folks.

I also had a stranger follow me, and offer me a ride while returning home from a trip to the corner store. I said " I don't need a ride, I live right here"..and walked right into the house I was standing in front of. I told the startled lady "A man is following me, can I use your phone?" and called my father to come get me...

The burden is/ must be shared by the whole community. How many people choose to look the other way, or "not get involved "?

"Not my problem" seems to be the mantra of society as a whole. Unless we change THAT within each and ever one of ourselves...we can't even begin to hope for a better world.

I remember being jumped by several black kids. Suddenly those kids were flying through the air. A lady was pulling them off me and throwing them. I jumped up and ran. One of my big regrets in life, is I didn't thank this GREAT black lady for saving me.

Actually look deep...its terrible out there. Not saying that there were not these type of people back in the 80's, but it is more common now, because when they are convicted they spend a few years in jail, and then are released.

Wake up, its 2012. Her mother should have walked/drove her to school, or watched her walk down the sidewalk. Not only that, she should have waited at the very least until id say half and hour, or hour after she left to go to sleep. That away she wouldnt have "missed" the phone calls from the school.

I believe the mother is lazy (not only for the for sure signs of it) but because she wouldnt even take 15 minutes out of her morning to spend with her daughter walking her to school. UGH! pisses me off seriously! She is 10...who stays overnight with her while her mothers working overnights? states that the mother and father are no longer together, but when their daughter went missing they grew closer together.

I feel terrible regardless of who's body this is...i'm hoping that it is not this little girl, nor any child.

The so called good ole days weren't much safer then they are today. I walked eight blocks to school starting at age five, until the 8th grade in the late 60's and early 70's. All the kids in my neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods did. If kids were grabbed off the street, I never heard about it. I do know that kids got molested, but it was usually someone they knew or was related to them. I could tell you stories about the brothers and sister across the street, or the gay man who lived down the street who did get kids in his house.

When I was 8-13 years old, I walked 2-4 miles to the big shopping plaza or the large park that had the swimming pool. The females did the same. I had men on my street and in different neighborhoods who tried to get me into their home or car. I knew why they wanted me to come inside, but I wasn't stupid enough to do it. As long as I was home by dark, I pretty much went where ever I wanted. I would have missed out on all kinds of fun memories if parents kept their daughters locked up in the house, rather then let them out to play. There were parents who did do that, but believe me, they didn't prevent anything with that tactic. Again, I could tell stories.

When a child goes missing ..Or a body is found , there needs to be a means to track area sex offenders And they need to be able to track them immediately...You think thats alot of money to tag sickos..Its alot of money to keep them alive and alot of money provide counselling.(.In a realistic world taking them to the desert and introducing them to Smith and Wesson and the local scavangers would be better) ..But we know that wouldn't happen. If they are micro chipped the police would be able to track which ones were in the area of the missing children and hopefully track them ,, before they do harm to the children..The laws give them rights..they don't deserve..rights..

I will never believe someone when they say "i had no idea Johnny was a pedophile"....there are signs people..wake up. No one wants to live up to the fact they might have a messed up family member and if they do see it they should tell the authorities or a social worker or someone, but I am living in a dream world...it will never happen and these types of crimes will continue to happen to innocent kids. No one will ever stand up and point the finger at someone in their own family because four fingers are pointing back at them...maybe for the crap job they did as a parent raising a messed up kid.

                                                                              #18.2 - Thu Oct 11, 2012 5:46 PM EDT

Me and my Ruger P-95 9mm with 16 rounds would make damn sure of that. You wanna fix this country? Bring back "an eye for an eye" like the old west. Stop coddling these maniacs and put them where they belong - 6 feet under. And yes, I would go to prison for the rest of my life to avenge the death of any of my children - wouldn't think twice about it.

Jail time is too good. Trials should not take more than three or four months and executions should take place with-in weeks of trials. Justifiable homicide, just like what you said. I know it's just a movie but I can't imagine a parent of a child that is kidnapped, molested, killed having any other thought.

I actually have another thought on punishment for these sickos - in our town we have a replica of the Liberty Bell right in front of our courthouse. I propose tying up child molesters/murderers to the bell and allowing the town's entire population go by and whack him/her a few times with whatever they can pick up and see how long they last. Our population is around half a million and if everyone participated in the public whacking it would more than leave a mark. I'm just saying..

If there is one thing I'm completely passionate about it would be my children and grandchildren. It seems the law and courts are on the side of the bad guy. Murdering a child----Death, not 25-40 years later. Immediate. I guess we still have to be civilized. I would rather be on the outside doing what I could to put an end to these monsters instead of rotting in prison and not having a say.

Anyone who harms a child in my opinion ought to be in or under the prison for life. My heart goes out to the parents and their suffering through this. Until we know for sure the outcome of the remains that have been found there is hope.
