Sandusky spent his entire life sexual abusing little boy’s; he did not become a pedophile mid life as some sort of mid life crisis. I am 56 years old and have spent my adult life talking about my sexual abuse, because NO ONE was talking about sexual abuse. I can not tell you how many times I have heard’ “I have never told anyone this before…” People are just starting to talk openly about it. I guess I just always knew I was not the only one. To make a long story very short, my neighborhood sexual abused me, different men and teenage boy’s a different times. The first time I was around five and this old grandpa type was sexually abusing all the boy’s and girls in the neighborhood. I eventually told my parents and the cops told my parents to keep me away from him. See, back 50 years ago the cops did nothing. Well we moved, but once you have that tattoo on your forehead, “I am Sex”, you just fall into the trap of more abuse. The very last person was my high school teacher. So if I can get anyone to listen, I will talk about, because I know I have a bunch of brothers and sisters just like me out there. I have used Sandusky as a learning tool, as he is a fine example of a true pedophile.

Had I had those lessons several adults in our family would have found themselves behind bars. I have stopped the cycle of abuse in my family. Parents need to talk with their children about what is and what is not appropriate. They need to tell their children that they should never believe the threats of an abuser and that the parents welcome and encourage the children to come talk with them if someone does something that does not seem right. Too many parents talk with their children about stranger danger, but molesters are typically PEOPLE THEY KNOW.

Read Malcolm Gladwell's excellent article in the New Yorker to understand the methodical way pedophiles--including Sandusky--groom their victims and fool everyone else. Sandusky is a self-serving narcissist/sociopath who throws his OWN CHILD (Matt) under the bus. And Dottie's own denial has contributed to the years of hurt he inflicted. No one--except possibly the delusional Sandusky and his wife--believes his lies. His rambling self-serving letter and tears--exclusively for HIMSELF--fool no one else. I do feel a little bit for Dottie: if she emerges from her denial--which she may do without Sandusky present in her life--the pain will be excruciating, as she will realize she has really spent her life with a monster.

He is a pedophile that is wealthy and has powerful friends he will be in protective custody and isolated from the general population from the day he steps into prison to the day he taken out in an ambulance. He will most likely die sitting in a recliner watching tv in his special important people cell that has no bars on the window. He will have access to better medical facilities and food then the general population and will probably have a key to his own door that lets him walk around the isolated facility he is in whenever he chooses. KIm, thank you for your honesty. Perhaps I can't be objective, but I've always thought the problem of child abuse (sexual as well as other forms) is much more pervasive than people realize.

Three of my sisters were sexually abused as toddlers by my father, and my brother was molested by our Catholic priest. Even though I was spared, I was affected. I also had childhood friends, a brother and sister, who at ages 9 and 7, confided in me and my little sister of being sexually molested by the son of their church's pastor. I still remember the anger and helplessness of knowing there was no adult I could tell, nor, frankly, any adult I could trust. After all, in my little hometown, my now dying father, that long dead priest and the pastor as well, are still considered to have been pillars of the community.

I'm 57 years old, and I feel I've lived a fairly charmed life, despite an unpleasant childhood, but as fortunate as my life has been, the scars and ugliness of my family upbringing has never ever faded and is ever present in deep in my soul.

Bless you, Kim, for speaking up. Predators like Sandusky spend their lives depending on people remaining silent, on turning away from what they don't want to accept. I don't care what happens to this man once in prison--I care more that everyone do what they can to prevent future victims of child abuse, who end up in mentally crippling prisons as bad or worse than any cushy place Sandusky is being sent to.

If you are interested about learning about the sexual abuse of child there are ways to educate your self. You should definitely do this if you are a parent or a grandparent. The scariest thing is that we still think of children as possessions. Look at how Sarah Palin railed against Michelle Obama's campaign to end childhood obesity..."parents should be able to make their own decisions". Perfect example is a quote from the article:

That alone tells a lot. They blame so many people for causing their problems. Especially their son. Obviously, the history on the son was not brought up until Dottie wrote her letter, but why would they change their plans if they are claiming he was always getting into trouble and can't be trusted? If he was called as a surprise witness, they could have provided proof of police reports of his troubled history that they were claiming. But without the proof and wanting to blame their son for part of their problems, it just shows they don't know how to take responsibility for what they were enabling under their own roof. Very sad and sick.

His attorney was trying to paint him as someone with low self esteem prior to the trial starting. There are articles that pointed that out earlier this year. But when they began the trial, they dumped that idea and tried to portray all the victims as troubled boys who got together to cash in on a lie instead. And I agree, he is suffering too much from very high self esteem. So much so that he started believing his own lies about his innocence and not being responsible for what happened, and it doesn't help that the mentality of pedophilia aids in that type of thinking as well as they fully believe they didn't do anything wrong. But I was just pointing out that his attorney was foolish to use the low self esteem excuse as Sandusky didn't fit any of the criteria for someone who did suffer from such.

Sounds to me more like instead of low self esteem, Sandusky gets that "feeling" of guilt which he attributes to low self-esteem. He has felt guilty for decades, and so attributes that feeling to low self esteem. This is a cycle for him.

People can actually keep telling themself something, (I am innocent, I am a good person) and they will start believing it. That is what he is doing. It is essential to his survival. No, I have no concern for his survival, but that is just what is going on here. Positive mental attitude works for creeps as well as non-creeps.

Sexually abusing a child is not the worst thing I have ever heard of. There are things like murder. Children are not totally innocent, they have to learn somewhere, at some time, that the world is a mean place. If an adult knocks them upside the head once in a while it will not kill them. Everyone's souls and innocence gets destroyed eventually. These accusers won the lottery, they will get huge payouts.
