When I was a child the teachers in school, or even Sunday school teachers, could pull you aside and put their arm around you and give you a hug and let you know that things really aren't that bad... and "we'll get through this together" And so it meant something to you when that same instructor took you into the office and gave you a swat or two for bad behavior.

What that instructor thought of you was IMPORTANT to you because of the nature of the relationship.

Not any more - Now that teacher would be deemed a pervert and a child molester. So teachers and authority figures had to abandon the human touch.

There was a time when an older gentleman, or woman for that matter, could look at a child in the grocery store line and say "My, aren't you a pretty little thing.. or a handsome young man..." and pat them on the head- Not any more... Must resist at ALL costs any level of healthy human interaction!!

When I was in high school, a football player could make a touchdown and celebrate by spiking the ball and shouting to the moon and stars. Nope.. not anymore. That natural human reaction has been Crushed by the powers that be, in an effort to shield the other team from the very natural consequences of coming in 'second best' (or as we used to call it: 'losing')

(Is it really doing our children a great service by not teaching them how to deal with crushing defeat in a controlled environment? Or is it better to just wait until they get on the job without any preparation at all?)

Just a random thought but why is it so important to atheists to try to take away someone's faith? It is almost as if they resent someone finding comfort in the idea of God because they as atheists lack that source of comfort. I have known happy contented atheist who were not that way. They thought Christians were wasting their time but that was the end of it. Sadly online we seem to be overrun with antagonistic atheists who are offended by others faith.

Something sad and horrible was done by one human to another human. If it brings comfort to a Christian to believe that God will nurture and heal the soul of that poor child what right does someone have to steal that comfort from them?

Stop hating God, If you want to do something constructive call on the government to use the NSA satellites to track her killer. Those satellites take photos of every square inch of America every 6 seconds. All they have to do is go to the coordinates and punch in the time and they could see it happen right before their eyes. There are some who seem to be suggesting that Religion is somehow at the root of this evil and others who are comforted by meditative reflection through prayer.

I lost my mother-in-law and my dog this weekend. Thousands of horrific tragedies happen every day. I'm sorry about all of it. It would be in poor taste to have a religious debate at a funeral or on a person's obituary notice. The duty of the survivors is to debate and discuss how to reduce future tragedies.

Most atheists are angry with a god they supposedly don't believe in for whatever personal loss or tragedy they can't make sense of. Oh good grief, you athiests, when you find out about God, you may be in for a pleasant surprise. People however have a free will to choose good from evil. That's what the human race is all about. God will very rarely interfere with man's free will but, as Jesus said, "it is better for a man who hurts these little ones, that a millstone be tied around his neck and he be drowned in the sea'.

When that poor little girl was being tortured and murdered, I am sure God was protecting her from feeling that pain. Angels were surrounding her and were there to take her home. God may not - no, God cannot interfere with man's free will, but He does make things easier for the suffering. May that same God, who helped their daughter enter His eternal happiness, be with her family now and comfort them and give them some sort of peace.

I know that whoever did this henious thing will be punished - if not by our current laws and law enforcement, then by that eternal God who is just. God's justice is the worst thing that could happen to that murderer.

Agreed, but people need to rationalize it in their minds. Like I said before, if you want to pray, great, but it is not going to change anything. Spending 5 minutes alone with that sicko is not going to change anything either (but all I would need is 5 seconds, a gun and a bullet). What we need is for smaller communities to come together for the good of all in that community. We do not need globalization, we need sustainable communities. This is about a child who was victimized in such a way I can't even put into words. It is about her family who are probably going out of their minds after what has happened to her. I am the mother of an 8 year old and 3 year old, both girls, and I cannot imagine what hell they must be going through. Yes, this was an act of pure evil, nothing less. And if the monster that did this isn't judged for it on this earth, I believe he will be when he leaves this earth. And people are right, we do need to come together and do something about it. But what can we do? We can try to get laws changed, as has been done in the past, but things just seem to get worse! When I was a child, I roamed all over my neighborhood alone and my parents never had to worry about anything bad happening to me. Today, I wouldn't let my children out of my sight!

So sad. But I PRAY that this family and community finds peace, whether it be the same God I believe in or not. And I hope they find the monster who did this before another child is harmed.

Do you think that atheists don't do charity as well? I hate to burst your bubble, but I do as I am certain many others do. I consider myself a christian, but this didn't happen because america is taking god out of the schools, the courts, the government, etc. When religious zealots controlled the colonies in this country, innocent women and girls were murdered because they believed they were witches. Having god in schools and government didn't help the Irish. Girls and boys were sexually assaulted for decades by priests. It was religious, and god, that saw Ireland torn apart by war for centuries.

It's easy to use god and religion as a crutch, or a weapon. Nuts in the middle east who shoot fourteen year old girls because they want an education, who stone women to death for supposedly committing adultery hide behind their version of god to justify the evil that they do. People in this country with hate in their hearts say, "I don't hate gays, god hates gays." They blow up abortion clinics and murder doctors right in the church, claiming their god approves of it because they're "saving those poor little unborn babies."

God didn't cause this to happen. It wasn't Satan who allowed this child to be brutally murdered. Her killer chose to do it. It was free will, THEIR decision. God wasn't telling them if they did it they'd go to heaven. Satan wasn't whispering in their ear to do it because it would be so much fun witnessing her pain, listening to her screams.

Some people are sick, twisted; morally vacant from birth. They have no conscience - Bad Seeds. You can't rehabilitate someone like that. We also live in a society that glorifies violence. Seeing a man or woman's naked butt on TV will traumatize children for life, but they show people getting shot, stabbed, buildings blown up, all the time.

We live in a society that still sends the message that girls are second class, that if something bad happens to them - they somehow asked for it. That republican representative Todd Akin is a one man walking advertisement for this mentality. There's such a thing as "legitimate rape"? He gets angry with his opponent because she isn't acting "ladylike" i.e. groveling and subservient. We live in a society that still objectifies girls and women, that sends the message to boys and girls alike that we are nothing but the sum of our body parts.

We live in a society where rape victims find themselves put on trial, where their entire past can be used against them, while their rapist is protected, his own past history shielded. That FBI agent was right. Whoever murdered this girl, and especially if she was raped, has almost certainly done it before. They might have had a juvenile record, but those records can be expunged once somebody turns eighteen. They might have assaulted girls or women before, but their victims would be afraid to come forward because they knew the courts and the law would find a way to somehow blame them.

Maybe this person even violently attacked a girl or woman before, but the courts allowed them to plea bargain down to something else and get next to no time in jail. A freak this twisted doesn't happen overnight. They've probably been accelerating their behavior, doing stuff like this for years, spending little to no time in jail. Why? Because we as a society enable these monsters.

In some cases we create them, but even ones who are born pure evil, in numerous ways large and small society covers for them, makes excuses for them, or people are just too lazy to investigate if something seems off. How long did it take the authorities to catch Dahmer and stop him? If society and the police had paid attention the first time, when one hysterical man tried to escape, he would've been stopped far earlier. Instead, it was easier to say - oh, it was a lovers' quarrel - and allow that man to be hauled back to his death.

When Ted Bundy abducted that twelve year old girl in Florida, people nearby, watching from their cars, never questioned what they saw, despite the fact that she appeared to be openly crying and struggling. What did they do? Some assumed he was her father, that he'd been called to the school because "his daughter" had gotten in trouble. They were smirking at the thought that this bratty little girl was going to get the spanking she deserved when "her daddy" got her home. Instead Bundy made off with her, raped her, and dumped her body in a shed used by pigs. God and Satan didn't allow this little girl to be murdered and dismembered - society did.

You may be feeling unnecessary guilt because you missed that phone call on the morning she was abducted, but you must fight those feelings. The evil person or people who did this were already gone with her. You can honor her life by living yours with love and peace in your heart. This is what she would want for you. She would never want you to feel guilty or tortured by any part of her memory. I hate that you must bear this. Condolences to all the family.

This world is so corrupt. It is not safe for our kids to even walk to the bus stop. There are so many children going missing on a normal regular basis and so many are not ever found. But to find this young lady's body in that condition is of even more horribleness. I hope that her terror was not a prolonged one, however any conscious amount of time she spent with the person or people responsible for this was too much. Whoever is responsible for this are people who lack any moral compass, have complete disregard for human life, and are particularly filled with contempt, evil, violence, and savageness. They did not even attempt to hide the remains, but instead tossed them out on the ground in plain sight. There is something especially gruesome about this that resembles the actions of a wild beast. I pray that they receive punishment for their crimes, now and beyond.

My heart goes out to the family and young girl. Having three young girls myself, I could not imagine loosing them, especially in that way.

this is why we have a need for Capital punishment. Find the sick person and execute him, waste no more money than needed and give the family some decent closure if any can be had.

And I don't see why some of you have to knock someones faith. I've seen faith give people the strength to handle situations that they didn't think that they could. It has helped give them peace when a love one leaves this Earth and for some it gives them a good rule in which to live by. The police were NOT lazy! I live down the street from where her body was found and all we have seen on TV and in our neighborhoods are searchers and police looking for her. And without the journalists, the community would have been left in the dark regarding the entire matter. Think before speaking.

From the onset there have been warnings and when the FBI profiler made his statement, the ENTIRE community was on alert. Even people that stay away from the news knew what was going on. @colorado native Far too many people have no idea how poilce investagations work, as is apparent by the number of comments here. The police use mis-direction and outright lies and enlist the media so guilty parties lower their guard. Simply, the law does not give every detail about a crime and will even release wrong or false information. @cookie Agreed. Brings to mind Susan Smith and Scott Peterson. The police publicly reported that neither one of those two were suspect, yet were investigating them all along. The truth of the matter is that investigations begin with the closest people in the victims circle and is expanded from there.
