Subscribe to RSSDECATUR, Ga. -- Authorities on Friday identified the body of a man who was found entombed in concrete in the backyard of a northeast Georgia home.
The man has been identified as Sean Dugas, 30, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation medical examiner's office. The body was found Monday encased in a plastic storage container filled with concrete.
Authorities this week charged twin brothers Christopher and William Cormier, 31, with murder in the death of Dugas, a former newspaper reporter in Pensacola, Fla. The Cormier brothers are also charged with concealing death.
"It's a little hard to wrap your head around it," said Kris Wernowsky, who worked at the Pensacola News Journal, where he sat next to Dugas for about three years. "I've worked there for so many years and covered many things in Florida. You never would have thought you would go to a website and click on a story about someone you know. ... It's heartbreaking."
Dreadlocks, long beard
Dugas' dreadlocks and bushy long beard helped him stand out easily in the Pensacola area on the Florida Panhandle, Wernowsky said. Dugas had covered a wide variety of topics, including breaking news and entertainment, the newspaper said on its website.
Dugas worked for the News Journal from 2005 to 2010, rising from a clerk to a police reporter.
“He was a good breaking-news reporter," Wernowsky said. "He was the type of guy who was eager and loved his job. I rarely heard about him complaining about anything."

Winder, Ga., police officer Chris Cooper said this week that medical examiners declared the death a homicide based on the number and location of the man's injuries. The autopsy revealed that the man died of blunt force trauma to the head about a month ago.
Georgia authorities on Monday arrested the twins at a home in Winder that was being rented by their father. Winder is a small city located about 45 miles northeast of Atlanta.
Police said Dugas had been reported missing and was last heard from on Aug. 27, when he made plans to have lunch with a friend the next day.
'So much that is not known'
When the friend went to pick him up for the meal, he wasn't home. After trying unsuccessfully for days to reach Dugas, the friend went back to his house on Sept. 7 to find it empty. Neighbors told her a U-Haul truck had been there since Sept. 3 and they saw at least one man removing things.
That man told the neighbors that Dugas had been beaten and was going to live with him, police said.
The female friend continued to try to reach Dugas before calling police on Sept. 13.
Based on information provided by Pensacola, Fla., investigators, Winder police found the body at the Georgia home being rented by the Cormier twins' father, who told police his sons had arrived from Florida about three weeks earlier. They told him they were supposed to take care of their missing friend's dog.
However, they supposedly claimed they'd ended up killing the dog and burying it in their father's backyard, police said.
"There is so much that is not known," Wernowsky said. "There are so many empty spaces for a lot of us. I didn't know any of his family, and I feel sorry for their loss. What a horrible way to end your life."

This is one strange case. And boy, aren't the medical examiners smart to determine that this was a homicide??? They sure are intelligent down there in Florida.

I've no problem with the authorities charging these two under every statute on the books which relates to this murder, including construction without a permit for pouring the concrete they used to conceal the body.
Hit them with everything you got, and apply the sentences consecutively.

You can get more time for stealing than murder. Just think of what charges have been made against those in Framingham, Massachusetts who prepared moldy steroids and shipped them across the country to doctors; they probably will just face a fine and some lawsuits instead of being charged for mass murder or serial murder under the organized crime statutes.
Let's see: Hate crime against people wearing dreadlocks; hate crime against people who might be happy and going on dates; retaliation for some kind of investigation this reporter was doing; digging holes without permits; building without permits; killing a dog (cruelty to animals); conspiracy (it was two people who committed the crime); kidnapping; transporting a kidnap victim across state lines (yup, the F.B.I. should be on this); or even possibly some kind of political or personal vendetta.
Any and every charge should be thrown at these two, because murder is very serious, and taken way too lightly in today's legal system.

One aspect which was unreported in the story is motive; the article says nothing regarding why this young man was murdered.

This could end up in Ripley's believe it or not. It's fascinating in that this occurred sometime in late August but is just now being "discovered" and the reasoning is the Cormier twins buried a dog they were looking after and "had killed", according to their father.

That's what happens when the media is outsourced. The lack of detail is only one concern. How about all of the the disjointed one sentence paragraphs and the lack of flow to the article? The journalists write like a fly on a hot turd - all kinds of activity but not much productivity.

One aspect the article makes clear is the victim's home was definitely cleared out of all his possessions.So it may be that robbery also played a role and after killing this man, they may have had immediately to also kill his dog. Perhaps the victim was planning on moving and a disagreement arose.
In the end, at least his killers have been caught though for the life of me I can't image a more stupid pair of killers. For sticking their victim in a container of concrete and keeping him in their backyard like he was some trophy accessory furniture piece. No doubt the weight would have made moving him extremely difficult.Glad two idiot low life's will be locked up and hope they throw away the keys for life.

He and his friend made plans on Aug 27th for lunch on the 28th. The man isn't home when his friend arrives.
The friend goes back on the 7th and finds the house empty. Neighbors tell her a U-haul had been there since the 3rd and saw one man moving stuff out. That man told the neighbors that Dugas had been beaten and was going to live with him.
And she waits until the 13th to call the police?
The articles just get worse and worse with the reporting, or the lack of it.
It could have been the father of the twins. I doubt two people would be stupid enough to dispose of a corpse that way.

This story made no sense. Whatever happened to the old journalism rules of.....who, what, where, when, and why? It is like whoever wrote this story took a hodge podge of a few facts and threw them together in a story randomly with no cohesion. What did the dog, if there really was a dog, have to do with anything? Who are the suspects in relation to the victim? Why did they do it? What led the police to them?
There is no more journalism. Most people couldn't identify a good article if they saw one and, the worst is, they couldn't care less. Keep the masses stupid so the facts don't matter.
I agree Johnna and the Doc - this is the most disjointed story I have read in a long time, I can usually pull together a story when I read most anything, but this one is most difficult to work with, it is truly a sorry piece of "journalism"...

You are probably correct, however, the Press, no matter which organization - NBC, AP, UPI etc are always rushing so quickly to get the "Scoop" of a story before their competitors, they usually leave out the 5 Ws of reporting that Johnna Santos (post above yours) pointed out.

It does lack the connection on why these suspects were tracked. It is my guess that the police or FBI would not release that info due to it being part of the case for court. I feel for the victim. No doubt he found something very bad about these 2 morons. They are no doubt from a lower gene pool than most. To kill a man then put him in concrete in your own garage points to a very low IQ.

The concrete isn't what killed him. For all we know, they could've been doing drugs and he overdosed, and they hid his body so they wouldn't get in trouble for doing drugs.
They still have to determine the cause of death in order to determine if it's a homicide. Simply hiding a body is not sufficient enough to prove homicide.
He died of blunt force trama to the head. He worked at a store that sold games and comics which was his passion. He was not a druggie and he was not working on an undercover story. He was a good person; loved by his family and friends and will be missed. Hopefully all your questions will be answered when these men come to trial.
