Subscribe to RSSA man fatally shot his ex-girlfriend and their 3-year-old son and wounded three others at a northwest Ohio apartment complex before being shot to death by police, authorities said.
The shootings stemmed from a domestic dispute Tuesday night at the Eastpointe on the Mall apartment complex in Lake Township, the Toledo Blade reported.
Police said Jorge Duran Jr. 24, of Toledo, shot five people in two apartments before going outside. He was confronted by officers and was killed in an exchange of gunfire, Lake Township police said Wednesday, according to The Associated Press.

Killed at the apartments were his ex-girlfriend, Amber Jones, 26, and their 3-year-old son, Jorge Duran III, The Toledo Blade reported. A 39-year-old man, a 26-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman were also shot but survived, the newspaper said.
Police did not release the names or any other information about the survivors.

Handguns and their possesion are banned in Chicago and yet they average about 10 to15 BANNED HANDGUN homicides EVERY weekend, not to mention another 50 to 60 shootings in the same weekend time frame. Yeah, ban handguns. That will do it!

And what a surprise he would have had when he showed up to shoot her and her child, if instead of throwing an empty quart of Ben & Jerry's, she had armed herself and shot the SoB. July 22, 2012 - Waldoboro, Maine - Woman shoots sleeping boyfriend in the back of the head and then shoots herself in the face and survives. Woman tells police she was scared her boyfriend was going to break up with her.
August 3, 2012 - Juneau, AK - Mistress of a man who had broken up with her to reconcile with his wife is ambushed returning home with his wife. The mistress shoots the man killing him and shoots the wife several times. The mistress then tells the wife "we will all burn in hell" and turns the gun on herself. Despite taking 43 minutes for help to arrive the wife survives.
August 7, 2012 - Carlsbad, Ca - Woman shoots husband in the heart at point blank range, tells her kids who may have witnessed the killing "daddy fell out of a chair" and takes them out for sandwiches. Woman has not revealed her motive, friends and coworkers of the husband say he wanted out of the marriage.
October 12, 2012(not sure about the exact date) - Highland Heights, Ky - Woman shoots boyfriend because he was trying to end the relationship, the man was a young lawyer gaining momentum in his community and had dreams of becoming a senator.
The list could be longer if I went back farther, but you seem to be almost correct about one thing jockmama, men get the gun afterwards, most women get the gun and commit the action before the breakup has taken place. Actions depend on the person, not the gender. I've been dumped and done the dumping, I can't speak for the Ben and Jerry's but I've never had the impulse to go get a gun. When I've been dumped I go for 5 pints of beer and the first girl to make eye-contact with me. Maybe you should take a look at yourself and realize how you have handled getting dumped, coming to a public forum and spouting ignorance, sexism and bigotry about the opposite sex.

Women thought that equality meant equality in all things, including sex. But our society, the government, and the powers that be, would tolerate none of that. They betrayed women just like they betrayed men. Equality meant that women would not be equal with men, just the same as men. Same sh*tty life. Same deadend career. Same broken promises. And if women didn't like it then they would remind themselves that in a globalized world their failure to complete could be matched by millions of women everywhere that could compete . . . compete for their men first.

Amazing what people will do in the heat of the moment. People have killed their spouses, their exes, their babies, even stabbed their own dog because they get too heated and explode! What an idiot! He had his whole life ahead of him, as did his ex and their baby, and now all 3 are dead, for what! He might have met someone next week that would have made him wonder why he ever gave two craps about his ex! People need to learn to live and let live. This is sickening. I think anger management should be taught by the time kids graduate high school. We've all "lost it" at one time or another. It should be mandatory to take at least one class, same as sex-ed and drunk driving presentations.

here4eternity you do realize that if you have a record of violence you can not legally buy a firearm. whenever you buy a firearm, they take all your info, fill out paperwork, check your ID then call it into the FBI hotline for a computer check on you. the firearm that you buy is also federally registered to you for any future record checks. you dont get the gun untill you are cleared from them. so if this guy had a history of violence, he did not get the gun thru legal means.

No, Eric, you can obtain a firearm through the myriad of "gun shows" even if you have a record. Backround checks should be expanded to all gun transactions. The right to bear arms also carries the responsibility to own and transfer ownership safely. I am a supporter of the the right to bear arms but I also don't see that right to own weapons that are military grade by individuals. Also, from my personal experience, the people most fervent about owning guns are usually the type that really shouldn't own them.
For all of those that think everyone should be armed, you are just as foolish as those that think all guns should be banned. There would not be less violence, just more innocent bystanders being shot.

unfortunantly when my friend came back from iraq, he found out his wife was 3 months pregnant while he was gone for a year. i volunteered to extend my tour so he could get back on time. when he got home he shot, his wife their daugher and hisself. sometimes things just happen to make a person snap. i know he dearly loved his wife and daughter. he kept talking about how he couldnt wait to get home to be with them, that is what was keeping it together for him while over there.

I read the BLADE online every day. I lived way too many years in Toledo. It was long enough to witness a steady slide into increased unemployment and economic misery, the decline in public services, rampant gang activity and more. And what I see every day about arson of abandoned houses, violence against strangers and domestic violence is appalling. This is sad. Maybe drugs involved, certainly other elements, too. Toledo may focus these events but they happen too regularly elsewhere, too.
As soon as a problem arises the first thing an individual does who has access to a gun (because they're far too many in this country) is think the problem can be solved by using that gun. Five people shot, likely some will die, all because the gun nuts and gun manufacturers are flooding the society with them. These kinds of mass killings by gun are happening more and more now almost everyday around the country. We need to ban guns in the U.S. then maybe we'll have a homicide by gun death rate life other civilized countries--"0".
The difference between killing someone with a gun and not killing somebody with a gun is education. Do you really believe this guy was worried about getting caught? Talking about tougher penalties is just as fruitless as talking about banning guns. Any person who would kill his own son had no concern about consequences. If you could have threatened him with ten different death penalties it wouldn't have changed his actions in the least. He was typical of the kind of thinking that says, "If I can't have them no one can." As for consequences, it was suicide by cop, otherwise he would have surrendered. He didn't care about dying. Definition of a Liberal- An individual who believes in freedom to the maximum. In other words its an individual who believes in having as many individual freedoms as possible. I had to clarify because people really keep using the word incorrectly. This means that liberals do believe in individuals rights to bear arms. I am a liberal. I fully support the second amendment. This story is very tragic and I really hate this happened. It really is sad. He should have just left her alone. If she didn't want him anymore then he shouldve just moved on and found somebody else. If this was the scenario. I dont know for sure because in the story they did not say. Im not going to assume anything. Its really sad. I do not think that more gun control is the answer. We do not need stricter gun control laws. We need to enforce the ones that are already on the books and in place. Thats all. jean its been proven that gun laws like that dont work. look at england/germany they have just as many per capita gun murders as the US and the strict gun laws there. you can ban guns all day long and criminals will still get ahold of them unfortunantly.

@Nailer45. First off, I am an Obama supporter and I fully support the second amendment. Secondly, it is already illegal for a felon to own a gun. You really need to brush up on our gun laws. Now the last comment about about the mentally stable owning a gun, I agree to a certain extent. That will not necessarily stop a handgun from ending up in the wrong hands. Perfectly sane people own guns and use them as weapons all the time. That will not work. You will have to come up with another suggestion. Not even checking and testing to see if an individual has a criminal background would/will prevent gun crimes from happening or would/will stop guns from ending up in the wrong hands. The people that committed these past mass shooting in the previous months were law abiding citizens with no criminal history. There is no test that they could perform to ever stop a gun from ending up in the wrong hands. Thats real. Its the truth. Hand guns have no purpose other than to kill. Most often, other than drug dealers shooting competing drug dealers, hand guns are turned on husband, wife, girlfriend or boyfriend. Seems as if every day there is a similar story published. We need some decent control over who can obtain these weapons. Gun violence is immediate. How often do you read about someone killing 6 or more people with a knife or baseball bat?

That's not true, I discharged about 150 rounds out of my P226 this weekend, noone died or got hurt. I discharged about 80 rounds out of my AR, noone died or got hurt.
I had a lot of fun hitting the steel targets that swung around to the other side or tipped a bit standing themselves back up again. I also practiced a bit faster rate of fire to get used to it. Once again, noone died or got hurt even a scratch.

NC-I'm all for banning some cars, or at least people from being able to drive. I'm terrified sometimes of driving out with other people because there are some crazy drivers! I would love to see things get stepped up so that not every idiot was able to drive. Old people, crazy teenage drivers, people who are repeatedly given DUI's that get their licenses given back to them, etc. I think after a certain amount of tickets you should have to just take public transportation or ride a bike. I know this doesn't really have anything to do with the story, but I've seen several posts on here using driving as an example and I say, yes! Ban some people from driving, just like we wouldn't let some people get guns!
Ready2change: I really take offense with the people you think should not be allowed to drive; teenagers, old people, etc. If someone has a good driving record, then why shouldn't they be allowed a license? Because you say so? I think fat people should not be allowed to purchase fast food; I think skinny people should have to double up on their fast food; I think short people should have to wear high heels; I think tall people should have to slouch down. There are times and places where not carrying a large calibre handgun or shotgun can get you killed. Just the other day a man in Soldonna, Alaska saved himself from certain death when he was attacked by a huge,1000 lb, old brown bear. Handgun was a .458 Magnum (Casule maybe) It took all 6, 350 grain slugs to stop the raging bruin.
There are many valid reasons for an armed populace. When, not "if" the fit hits the shan, the unarmed citizens of this country won't stand a chance. There is even a case for being able to protect yourself from an out of control government or military run by a cabal of oligarchs. Self defense aside, feeding your family when the stores are empty when it all goes wrong, is going to be hard to do without a firearm or bows and arrows to put game on the table.
Never travel in bear country without a whistle and a can of pepper-spray, if you have the training and competence, better to have a flat-blaster.
More laws to keep handguns out of the hands of the angry or crazed in not a viable solution. Human life seems to have lost a lot of value, murdering anyone is crazy. Killing your own child is something I can't even begin to comprehend.

It is so sad isn't it. Why are the children caught in the middle? There is a court case in Buffalo NY this week where a man is accused of killing his 10 year old son by binding him to a chair and beating him to death with a rolling pin. The boy's crime? Lad didn't get enough "A"s on his report card, disgraced his family is the dad's defence.
Now this is effective and expedient police work. Don't try to talk them down or capture them - take them out.
A 25 cent bullet compared to millions in court costs and housing for this murderer. This murderer will NEVER kill again seems like a just and fitting punishment to me.

When it comes to acts of killing, it's not about anger. It's about rage, that "firm resolve" our grandmothers and grandfathers use to talk about. Now murder, murder is different. Murder is rage aggravated.
Guns are such an act of futility. That's why the government lets people keep them. When it comes right down to it, you only get off a few shots and then have to either shoot yourself in the head, or get yourself shot by the police. You don't want to go to prison. America is a pro when it comes to prisons. America has more prisons than anybody. Only a fool gets themselves arrested and shown off in a courtroom wearing orange hair. If the Mexican drug lords wanted to do a favor for the most depressed, the most needy and dependent Americans they would add C-4 and remote detonators to their import menu, and lots of it. Drugs only temper the urge to violence. Plastic explosives are the only real outlet for rage. Blowing something up. When that happens, our irresponsible and feckless government will "solve" the illegal immigrant problem real fast. You watch.
