California model's accused killer was used as hired 'enforcer,' say prosecutors

Kelly Soo Park, a real estate agent in her 40s who is held in the murder of Juliana Redding, a model and aspiring actress. Court documents allege that Park and her boyfriend had previously been hired to intimidate others on behalf of physician/businessman Munir Uwaydah.

A woman being prosecuted in the brutal 2008 murder of a model in Southern California had a history working as "muscle" to enforce the will of a wealthy doctor and businessman, newly released court documents allege.

Kelly Soo Park, who is accused of stalking and killing Juliana Redding, 21, in her Santa Monica apartment, "has a history of threatening and intimidating individuals who have an ongoing dispute with" Munir Uwaydah, according to documents cited by the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

The documents detail two cases in which Park and her boyfriend, Ronnie Case, were accused of working as "debt collectors" for Uwaydah, sending them to intimidate one man for payment on a $350,000 judgment and another, a bank manager, for withdrawing from a business deal.

TODAY Show

Juliana Redding, a model and aspiring actress originally from Tucson, who was murdered in her upscale Santa Monica apartment in 2008.

Uwaydah, a surgeon from Marina Del Rey, has not been charged in Redding's death.

Prosecutors said he had dated Redding, a model and aspiring actress from Tucson, the Times reported. He had also been in talks with Redding’s father to launch a pharmaceutical business, but the deal fell apart days before her death, according to the report.

Redding was found beaten and strangled in her upscale Santa Monica apartment on March 18, 2008. Earlier reports said Redding had been calling 9-1-1 for help when the killer grabbed the phone and hung it up.

DNA evidence from the crime scene was traced to Park, according to testimony in secret grand jury proceedings reported on by the Times. Park has pleaded not guilty to one count of murder.

This is utterly disgusting that a woman with the help of her boyfriend can find it ok to murder a young woman. She has to be a psychopath to do the things that she did for this so called surgeon. My deepest and sincerest condolences to this young woman's family. This is yet another good reason to keep the death penalty in California.

This was not the first time these people have been accused of threatening people and or causing injury, so why were they not in jail? If they were working for Dr.Uwaydah, then why is he not on trial as well? And why has it taken the authorities four years to bring this to trial?

Amateur story written by a high school dropout. What happened to the doctor? The boyfriend? MSN is hiring grade school kids to write once upon a time stories.

While I respect your opinion I do agree with newsm. MSN grabs the headline with little to no story. 90% of the time the story is much more detailed elsewhere. I do enjoy MSN for the various opinions on newsvine but certainly wish they would do all their "homework" before publishing.

It's an NBC story - not an MSN story...and I happen to like short articles.

Would you rather the author speculate and embellish the story?

IndependantinSD; as a Liberal; I find your comment an insult to all logical thinking liberals/moderates/independents...get over what crazy fued you have inside your head...we need to come together as a nation - your type of comment just drives us further apart.

I love it when those who complain about the lack of information on an article - can't make a rhetorical argument as to why they don't like NBC and MSN articles...guilty of exactly what you cry about...hehehe.

I can't see how the doctor is not implicated in this case due to the fact that he had motive, revenge for the failed business deal with the victims father, and opportunity, to send his "enforcer" to the victim.

As far as your "Reich Wing Party" comment... Nazi stands for national socialist... look it up... it is the Democrat party that most resembles the Third Reich.

But politics actually has nothing to do with any of this.

It has already been noted that the article lacks details, so I won't go there.

However, the question in my mind is, why did law enforcement wait until she had committed murder before prosecuting her? I mean, if she had a history of threatening the lives of people, why wasn't she locked up? And, if it was already known that they worked for the doctor, why wasn't the doctor prosecuted?

This case stinks, and smells like corruption - or, at least incompetence - within the prosecutor's office.

Dr. Uwaydah fled the country and his whereabouts are not exactly known although it is believed that he is in his native Lebanon. The following website is ran by Lance Lamon who has been reporting on this story ever since it broke.

Dr. Uwaydah is one of the most shadiest people on the planet and EXTREMELY wealthy. He uses his enormous wealth to intimidate anyone that goes against him. He's been investigated by many agenies including the State Compensation Ins. Fund of CA for overprescribing drugs to patients and illegal billing practices. He's been accussed of fraud and has been sued in other matters as well as even being suspected in the death of a former business partner in his home country of Lebanon (death by hand grenade). Yes, you read right.

The reason he hasn't been indighted is a lack of evidence although some of th evidence that there is against him is the fact that he deposited a large amount of money into Ms. Parks bank acct (six figures) around the time of the murder and has been paying all of her legal fees since as he knows that she can indicate his role in this.

In other countries Money is the Law.

I met a Turkish fellow. The first sit down conversation we had, just the 2 of us went like this. Explain your police force. I explained the city, county and state police. He said, so if I am with a city police force I offer him how much money? If it is state, how much?

The actual laws, he did not care to inquire about. He just wanted to know how to bribe them. I told him that if he offered any money to any of them he would automatically go to jail. I explained to him that contact with a cop doesn't mean you necessarily did anything wrong. It did not mean you go to jail.

Now this is how the story ends as one would think really. An acquaintance of mine met this person on line. He sent her expensive jewelry through the mail. Some for her, some to keep for him. Within months she sponsored him and brought him here. Within months from then, they were married. He treated her awful. She couldn't go anywhere without him, except work of course. He did not. If she was on the phone he was at her side. When his time was put in to stay here, 3years? He divorced her, brought his Turkish wife (he had said they were divorced), children, his parents and his inlaws over here.

The 1st time I met him, the hair on my arms stood up.

The moral of this story. Women there are worse things then being lonely. Please do not keep bringing this type of person into our country. They are leaving their country for a reason. It is seldom to better our way of life.

We have enough USA born evil, without adding this to the mix.

                Hi Scooter,

While I do agree with you in a sense, allow me you prod deeper.

These types have NO CONSCIENCE. And that's not sick, or even mentally ill.

There are many types of ASPD Anti-Social Personality Disorder, the worst being Sociopathy and/or Psychopathy. The chief characteristic of this is a guiltless personality, a lack of remorse, which means NO CONSCIENCE. And when there is no conscience, it is a double whammy b/c that means there is NO EMPATHY either, the pre-requisite for love. They do not truly love anyone or anything. This type of mind revels in possessions and diabolical control.

May I recommend a book for you to check out. WITHOUT CONSCIENCE by PhD Robert D. Hare

The DOCTOR fled the country before he could be picked up and the authorities are attempting to locate him overseas. The DA has also been closed mouth on allot of the information so as not to put any of their evidence at risk. I'm actually surprised that they are moving forward at this point without having found the doctor yet. His day will come.

Give this ugly old woman life in prison and make the doctor pay for it. He should be on trial too, but California isn't capable of prosecuting the real troublemakers when they''ve got money. A double standard for the rich and poor, the rich never go to jail and the poor fill our prisons.

Any time they get a hold of some "enforcer" or hit man it should be the death penalty if it can be proven. They are just the violent parasite types that the death penalty is meant for, among others, and there is a 100% guarantee of non-recidivism.

The death penalty is too good for the ones who are guilty! They just go to sleep! Plus they get anything they want for dinner before they go! I believe if a person is 100% guilty, without a shadow of a doubt, it's best to let them live with their conscience for awhile. I also believe prison should be made less comfortable than what it is, a lot less comfortable. Like, no TV, no AC or heat, and put their asses to work. Not just cleaning the toilets and working in the kitchen. I think they should bring back the chain gang! Maybe people would think twice about what they do.

I also believe there are alot of innocent people in jail. I can't stand the thought of someone paying the ultimate price for another persons crime.

I don't understand why this doctor hasn't been charged with anything. If he hired these people to "strong arm" people that pissed him off, isn't he at least a conspirator?

KJGAL: Yes they do just go to sleep. Because they have no guilt, no remorse, no conscience. They can't live with their conscience for a while as you posted, because they have no conscience. Yes I agree with you, if you increase the consequences, then maybe those without a conscience would think twice before merely acting on an impulse.

This reads like a crime novel and I'm sure Uwaydah is guilty of at least employing Kelly Soo Park and can be charged with something involved with the murder or other acts of debt collection, threats and intimidation. Maybe the police are being sure to make it stick first...I feel sorry for the aspiring model's family and the fear she must have felt while trying to call 911.
