Subscribe to RSSUpdated at 6:24 p.m. ET: Three people were shot to death Wednesday at two locations two blocks apart in Downey, Calif., and authorities were continuing to search for the gunman.
Two people other victims were hospitalized in critical condition after the shootings at a business in the 8700 block of Cleta Street (map) and at a residence in the 8500 block of Cleta Street, Downey Fire Department officials said.
The gunman was described as a black male who fled in a 2010 black Chevrolet Camaro, with California license plate 6LEA010.
Two of the deceased were found at the business, identified as United States Fire Protection, which is across the street from a Coca-Cola bottling plant. Another victim was found at the residence, police said.
The first 911 call was received by the business, said Lt. Dean Milligan. A second 911 call was received from the residence, he said.
The first call came in with a report of shots fired at 11:12 a.m. at the business, according to a press release from Downey police. Five minutes later, the 911 call from the home came, again reporting shots fired.

Officers arriving found several gunshot victims at each location.
Dean Wright, who works next door, described the business as a family-owned fire extinguisher company. He told NBC4 family members lived at the Cleta Street residence located just a few blocks from the business.
"I'm right next door, and I never even heard a shot," said Wright. "I looked and the police had surrounded the building.
"It's so sad."

Even though it's a breaking story, the press has all the details. They're not releasing them because they don't want people visiting their websites, watching their broadcasts or buying their papers. They might actually make some money.

I am not anti gun, but think about your comment. What will they outlaw next? Rocks? Sticks? etc. The issue with guns is that any idiot can wield one and kill rather successfully. Now take that same idiot and give him some rope, plastic bags, and sticks. When he is driving around in his car wielding those weapons throwing rocks at people, most likely the comments will be man look at that idiot. Give him a gun and he is a mass murderer. For those of you who feel guns are not the killers, you can fight off weapons like baseball bats, knifes, etc.; you cannot fight a bullet. How many people are murdered in masses without the use of guns in comparison on a daily basis? Maybe you should all do your homework. Until you know someone who has been a victim of gun violence, or someone who has been emotionally or physically affected by gun violence, you should think about how ridiculous one sounds when they use the argument "guns don't kill people", because guns most certainly kill people a lot easier than any other weapon. Accessibility has become a crime in itself.

Yet, even now, it seems there still are a good many gun nuts out there who are in real denial about the harm guns do to our society and culture, not to mention the U.S.'s reputation around the world. It clearly appears this aggragate of the population, as well as the governmental prostitutes/representaives who, in actuality, work for and are being pimped by the gun manufacturers, NRA and gun lobbys-- not for the safety and welfare of the people, will not be happy until many more innocent victims of gun violence, including children, are laying in a morgue on a slab. Two weeks ago is was hot as hell in SoCal, then it rained, and now nights/mornings are cold. Pushes some people over the deep end. Good enough story for me. Someone kills people, they released enough information about the vehicle as they should. Would you rather they wait until the complete investigation is over and the killer has had a couple of months to kick back where ever he wants.

Really? Better check your facts because homicides using guns in NY isn't even near the top. As far as gun control laws working or not, let's see how many of the recent shootings were in areas with little in the way of gun laws? More than a few.
In fact in 2010 (last data) firearms asasaults in NY were 11.2 per 100,000 while CO was 38. NJ was also below that figure. NH even has a higher rate than NJ or NY.

Those stories are not reported by the anti-gun Media. There are stories all over America where guns have saved lives. Just a few days ago, here in Houston, an eight year old girl shot someone breaking into her home.

You really think it makes a difference? These events happen in states with little in the way of gun laws. Someone who has it in their mind to commit these acts will do so regardless of the laws. They could care less who is able to carry a handgun or who isn't. They are not thinking rationally and some think the fact there are laws in place or not will make a difference?
This was no doubt a homicide due to some personal issue as the suspect knew the victims.

The biggest threat to the free world is the MEDIA, they spout all the drivel about their rights to report the news ,,Well if they had never reported the first postal shooting and sensationalized it you wouldnt be seeing all the other shootings that emulate the first shooter. All these news stories do is put it in some ones little mind that they can make the news and be famous. If the media was kept from reporting, little johnny one nut would still be trying to figure out how to get some attention. Dont blame the guns.

My father was Union. He bragged how little they would work during the day. All of them.. A few teachers do good work, but most are overpaid for 8 months of work. A few cops do admirable work though VERY few of them are heros. Most just write up paperwork and reports after the fact. Then they call for a cleanup crew. Generalize much?

Most firearms owners are normal rational people. But a small percentage of ANY group can have some that go outside the norms. The shooter might have been one of those normal people who for some reason was pushed over to the other side. It happens. It always has and it always will.
Finally, I have read several comments on not blaming it on guns. Thanks to all of you who did. I have been saying that for years,and writing it alot lately. I am so sorry that this had to happen again! The people need to be held responsible,and not just a slap on the wrist. These monsters for doing such ,as terrible things and lives lost and several in critical conditions need to be put away forever! Once again this is not Obamas fault! If this person[s] had not used guns,they would have used something else.
