A multi-vehicle accident involving the caravan of U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) clogs traffic along Interstate 15 in Las Vegas on Friday.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was treated at a Las Vegas emergency room for minor rib and hip injuries after the vehicle in which he was riding was involved in an apparent chain-reaction accident Friday, according to his staff and news reports.
"Senator Reid was taken to University Medical Center Hospital by his security detail as a precaution, and walked in on his own," said a statement released by Reid's office to NBC News. "Senator Reid was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. He experienced rib and hip contusions and has been cleared for release by the doctors."
Some of Reid's staff members also suffered minor injuries and were evaluated at the hospital, according to the statement.
Reid was discharged from the hospital less than three hours after the accident, a hospital spokeswoman told NBC News.
Nevada Highway Patrol Office spokesman Jeremie Elliott said the apparent chain-reaction crash happened about 1:10 p.m. Friday on Interstate 15, according to The Associated Press. The freeway runs parallel to the Las Vegas Strip.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal newspaper said the accident involved two Las Vegas police vehicles and two Capitol police vehicles that were part of Reid's motorcade and two civilian vehicles.
It was not immediately clear what caused the crash.

Senate Majority Leader Sen. Harry Reid suffered minor injuries in a rear-end car accident Friday in Las Vegas, a statement from his office.
The 72-year-old Reid spoke earlier in the day at a Las Vegas ceremony celebrating the National Atomic Testing Museum, which was officially named a "national" museum Friday.
Officials in Reid's office said it wasn't immediately clear where Reid was headed, but first lady Michelle Obama was set to give a speech at Orr Middle School in Las Vegas Friday afternoon, and Reid's wife, Landra, was speaking at the event.
Reid was also due to speak to the editorial board of Spanish-language newspaper El Tiempo at 2:30 p.m., according to the newspaper's editor.

The only injury that would be of no consequence to Harry Reid would be a head injury, since his actions in the Senate reveal that he is already dead from the neck up.

Wow, NBCnews FINALLY posted the story. Took them hours to do it after more reliable, and less biased media outlets already had the story out there.

I am amazed about 2 things on this post stream:
1. Those who criticize Obamacare must be too ignorant (or intentionally deceptive) in not knowing that Obamacare only mandates that everyone have some type of insurance - it does not mandate any specific one. This means those who oppose it are supporting deadbeats. Deadbeats - you know, the type who go to hospitals and then don't pay their bills. I used to be a republican until they started being the party of 'no responsibility for your actions'.
2. Those who condemn Harry Reid for the financial state of the country. They are either too ignorant (or intentially deceptive) in acting like they don't know that the constitution mandates (this means requires) that the House of Representatives initiate all budgetary bills. This means the Republican controlled HOUSE is responsible for the deficit and debt. They initiate ALL funding bills, and if they cannot draft one that will pass both houses and be signed by the president - they should be voted out of office. After all - compromise was a staple in the founding of this country. If they are unwilling to compromise (or walk away from compromise when achieved - like the Speaker of the House did), they are the cause of the problems.
Why do all these republicans running for re-election in the House claim to be able to change things? They are the ones who put us where we are. But - hey, truth should never get in the way of a line of propaganda.

You should probably be told, that the insurance that you are required to get will have to cover what the Federal Government Political Appointee, Mrs. Sibilius at the moment, Secretary of Health and Human Services requires it to...or it will not qualify...and though it's not a requirerment, I would guess that most insurance companies will use that "list" as their base policy

I guess it is possible, but it had never slowed him down before...maybe if the story was about Reid's motorcade had hit another bump in the road, and his motorcade did doughnuts around it, then everybody got out of their cars to relieve themselves on it

After the accident, Harry Reid was reported to be in stable condition. Since that is a new experience for him, some are wondering whether he will be able to adapt to it.
