Small earthquake rattles Southern California; buildings shake in Los Angeles

Updated at 4:26 p.m. ET: A small earthquake rattled Southern California on Sunday morning, causing buildings to shake in downtown Los Angeles. There were no immediate reports of damage or injury.

The quake had a preliminary magnitude of 3.9 magnitude and struck at 8:24 a.m.,  the U.S. Geological Survey said. It was centered about 5 miles east-southeast of Santa Clarita, and about 24 miles north-northwest of downtown Los Angeles.

It may not have been a hurricane, but an earthquake and tsunami warning worried state agencies along the West Coast. NBC's Miguel Almaguer reports.

Shaking was felt across the Santa Clarita Valley, in downtown Los Angeles, in West Hollywood and along LA County beaches, The Associated Press reported.

The quake was followed by several smaller aftershocks.

A sheriff's dispatcher in Santa Clarita told the AP  there were no calls reporting damage or injury.

LMAO over this one....The West Coast Media must be so very jealous of that East Coast Storm where the Media is raking in the huge bucks on the fears of people....This earthquake in California is NORMAL..Currently via the USGS California map it shows 367 Earthquakes over the last few days...Which is about NORMAL..So again we have the Media really stretching to CREATE THE NEWS" and strike panic into the hearts of the Lemmings who will be waiting with baited breathe for the next news alert.....I wonder if the Governor will take the opportunity to get some face time about the Earth Quake..It is an election week you know and every Politician worth his campaign donation is out there making the most of every little bit of disaster they can to prove that they are doing their job...Lol's...and of course the Media is helping them along with it....Formerly being on the County's Emergency Management Task Force we recomended that people not listen to the Media excecpt at the top of every hour becasue studies proved that constantly listening to their B.S. created some health issues in people from Heart issues to mental issues....
