Indictment alleges couple planted pot on parent volunteer at son's school

Kent Easter, 38, and Jill Easter, 39, were indicted Thursday on charges of conspiracy to procure false arrest, false imprisonment and conspiracy to falsely report a crime.

A married couple accused of trying to frame an elementary school parent volunteer by planting marijuana and pills in her car have been indicted by an Orange County Grand Jury.

The couple, Kent Wycliffe Easter, 38, and Jill Bjorkholm Easter, 39, were indicted Thursday on charges of conspiracy to procure false arrest, false imprisonment and conspiracy to falsely report a crime, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors say the case dates to 2010, while the unidentified parent volunteer was at the school in Irvine, where Jill and Kent Easter’s son was a student.

The couple hatched the plot to retaliate against the volunteer who they believe was not properly supervising their son, prosecutors said.

The couple is accused of planting a bag of Vicodin, Percocet, marijuana, and a used marijuana pipe behind the driver’s seat of the woman's unlocked vehicle and then calling police to report she was driving erratically and had drugs, the indictment said.

"(Kent Easter) is accused of telling the dispatcher that he was a concerned parent who had witnessed an erratic driver park at the elementary school," the Orange County District Attorney's Office said in a statement. "He is accused of claiming to have witnessed Jane Doe, whom he identified by name, hide a bag of drugs behind her driver’s seat in her car."

The Easters maintained cellphone contact and exchanged text messages during their plot, authorities alleged.

Jill Easter has written a novel under the name Ava Bjork called "Holding House," about a mixed martial arts fighter hoping to strike it rich by undertaking a kidnapping, according to The Los Angeles Times.

If convicted, the defendants face a maximum sentence of three years in state prison.

Both are out of custody on $20,000 bail and are scheduled to be arraigned on Nov. 9.

Back in June MSNBC reported they're both attorneys. Go figure, huh?

I don't feel bad for their kid as the son is better off not learning from these idiots. They need a mental institution evaluation and then get at least 18 months prison time to think about what they did. This crime has to be some level of a Felony which pretty much screws them for life. Duh.

The cops probably got suspicious when she tested NEGATIVE for all the drugs after she was arrested....if these two are attorneys they aren't very good ones....

#1.9 - Wed Oct 31, 2012 11:45 AM EDT

Hate to be a pessimist, but if they're both attorneys then chances are they'll figure out a way to wiggle out of any punishment. A maximum of three years seems pretty light for people who were going to ruin someone's life, had possession of large amounts of narcotics and marijuana, filed a false police report, and wasted large amounts of police time and resources. They'd end up serving no more than half that time (1.5 years) and probably in a white collar resort prison. Maybe they'll at least lose their license as attorneys (although I doubt it).

i mean, who comes up with something like this in reaction to "not properly supervising your child"?

i'd contact the school if I thought there was a real issue...thats what NORMAL people do.

i wouldnt be surprised if it was nothing more than a conflict of personalities, and these crackheads thought they'd show her!

That's the reported statement, my guess is that there is more than what's reported. I think the volunteer knew about the drugs and these two thought it be best to strike first.

        #3.4 - Wed Oct 31, 2012 12:20 PM EDT

I bet it has more to do with something like the teacher politely declined their invite to getting stoned and a threesome.

Not only that, but how did they apprehend the suspects? Surveillance camera? Eye-witnesses? Titillating headline . . . worthless story. The article did manage to cram in "Bjork," "mixed martial arts fighter," "Holding House," and "kidnap." I feel sufficiently teased, but nonetheless hungry for real news reporting efforts. Thanks, MSNBC.

Well, they finally changed the headline to match the article. I guess maybe they have someone in charge of reading newsvine to find out if any corrections need to be made. I suppose that is a little bit of an improvement. Still has a long way to go, such as reporting real news about the things that Obama and his administration are doing that they would never allow to go unreported if Obama were a repub.

Police have seen it all. I'm sure they talked to the volunteer/teacher and quickly surmised that something wasn't right with the accusation. So they talk to the accuser and again quickly figure out the truth.

First comment: how stupid can you get? Second, what would the teacher have gotten sentenced to and how much would society have lost from the loss of her volunteering, not to mention how much her family would have lost in time -and potentially money- she spent with them?

I'm a firm believer that in ANY false prosecution situation, even when it's committed by law enforcement types, those responsible should receive the same punishment as the innocent party received or would have received. Every day we read about someone who's life has been destroyed by malicious or negligent prosecution. It's time those responsible were held accountable.

Nick - I was thinking the same thing. What would this woman have gotten if falsely convicted?

and then give these idiots that sentence x 2

i doubt it'll deter anyone, but these folks should pay for what they did (or attempted to do).

they almost ruined someones life, and for all we know - that persons reputation might still have been damaged by this.

Not even to mention the money this teacher may have spent to defend herself. While they are in prison, their assets should be auctioned off and the teacher given the funds. That's poetic justice.
