2 children found stabbed to death in Illinois home; mother of one victim in custody

Updated at 5:27 p.m. ET: Two children were found stabbed to death inside a Naperville, Ill., home, and the mother of one of them was taken into custody for questioning, authorities said.

Naperville police responding to a request for a welfare check on Tuesday night found the bodies of a boy and girl in a townhome. The children were believed to be her 8-year-old son and a 5-year-old girl she had been baby-sitting, law-enforcement sources said, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Two dogs were also found dead inside the home, a source told the Naperville Sun.

“There is no reason to believe any additional subjects are at large at this time,” police said in a statement issued Wednesday morning.

A law-enforcement official told the Chicago Tribune the woman had been distraught for several days after the death of her father.

As a woman and a mother I cannot fathom what, why, or how this happens. I don't care WHAT the mental state of that woman is/was, if she did it, then burn in hell and the courts should send her there on the fast track. I also have a dog, if anyone hurt this dog, if they were alive after my husband got to them I'd finish the job -- let alone if they touched my son.

I agree. Anyone who would harm my son or any of my pets would be sorry they ever thought of it.

We need to stop babysittiing the human trash that does this sort of thing. She should get the death penalty.

And swiftly.

None of this sitting on death row for 20 years and getting a law degree in the process.

Off topic but I once had a power company employee tell me that if my two dogs came near him, he would kick them!
In MY fenced in yard he's standing there threatening me and my babies. These are very gentle kind of dogs, not rotty's or anything at all threatening, and they were just pups anyway. I told him he would not kick one of my dogs. He said repeatedly that if they came near him he would kick them. Apparently he didn't understand my words to start. But then I said "okay you SOB, you kick either one of them, and I will shoot your arse! He got the message then. You don't mess with my kids NOR my animals!

And I want all you power, water, phone and other company employees to come on here and tell me how you've been bitten by dogs before and defend the jerk. It wasn't MY dogs, and MY dogs will not pay for your hate and bad attitudes! Put on shin pads if you're that scared or better yet, find a job where you don't have to go on someones PRIVATE PROPERTY!

Yes you are off topic.and yes people who are in the utility business have been bitten by people's dogs due to attitudes such as yours.AT&T employees are forbidden to go into a home or yard where dogs are roaming freely.I guess you'll be repairing your own telephone lines in the future.

Telephone lines? what is that? oh never mind thats them old things that they use to hang on your home.

Conway Twitter, why didn't you just bring your dogs into the house? Do you know how many people have been bitten by dogs where the owner said "Don't worry, my dogs don't bite". How can you expect this guy to do his work when a couple of dogs are bothering him?

      #2.8 - Thu Nov 1, 2012 5:31 PM EDT

Roodles: They WERE in the house.

Let me reiterate for those that didn't get it. They are puppies. They are gentle breeds...not manglers. They are all of 8 inches long, and possibly 5 inches off the ground. The most they would do to anyone would be to leave puppy breath on them.
They LIVE inside, but they ran out the door (into their own fenced in yard), when I opened the back door after the employee knocked on the side door to ask me to unlock the PADLOCKED GATE. We have a chain link fence and locked gates to keep INTRUDERS from coming on our PROPERTY and perhaps ACCIDENTALLY (??) letting them get out of the yard where they are SUPPOSED to be FREE to roam in THEIR OWN SPACE!!! Without the fence, they would get killed by the idiots that drive down our 45 mph road at 100 mph; showing off by speeding to the stop sign that stands 50 yards from our home.

...and cleaning lady? What the h3ll does MY dogs have to do with other people's dogs biting? I am not going to defend my own actions or my dogs being in THEIR OWN YARD, just because someone else's dog bites. MY DOGS DON'T BITE. At the most, they hide behind me when someone is around, which is exactly what they were doing when he showed up. HELLO? Still scared???
I'll say it again. The man needs another job if he's too scared to do the one he has that he has to harm innocent puppies to make himself feel tough.

I don't think MY dogs should have to pay for someone elses dog's behavior, anymore than YOU should have to pay for some murder's behavior.

      Capisce?

This sounds like the story line in horror movie. Those poor children. I hope they didn't suffer long before they passed. The world has always been full of sin and evil, but now we are hearing more and more about it through social and news media networks. I guess the saying "knowledge is power" is true, but only if everyone who learns these things checks themselves and those close to them to make sure they are not going to be the next people to commit some selfish and horrific act of violence. I mean we can't know what will happen tomorrow but we can be aware of warning signs in others and be cautious where we, our children and family go and what we all do. Keeping our guard up and being vigilant has never been more important than now. It's only going to get worse. Those who believe in the word of God know this is a fact.

That's not even remotely humorous and I think you thought it was. IMHO the killing of the dogs along with the humans just increases the chances that the person who did this is most likely insane.

First I would question why she killed her child and that of another family. Of course it was also very cruel for her to kill the dogs. The children and pets did not deserve to be killed. This woman obviously disturbed.

Why did she harm the kids and the dogs?? She must be a whacko!!! Or, another divorce situation where she "wanted to get back at her husband by killing the kids and the dogs."

The 2 most unconditionally trusting things on Earth: Kids and Dogs. Hopefully the dogs got a chunk or 2 out of the scum. As they were in a townhome I'm guessing the dogs were small breeds and relatively defenseless.

The dogs can't identify her or testify in court. The children might be able to. The dogs are no threat whatsoever.

I'm not more concerned about the dogs, but this is a bare bones story. There has to be more to it.

Life is LIFE...whether you're a human, dog, plant, tree, bug...it is still LIFE that makes the world still exist...without one of these lifes existing the world would literally end...I do not understand why humans think they're so superior compared to any other type of life when in reality we aren't. Therefore, the killing of the dogs is just as bad as killing the children...both horrible acts.

addy- I was going to let your first rant go, but then you had to do it twice.

If you CAN'T tell the difference between human life and non-human life, then you are a sociopath. How do you even interact with other humans? Whether you shift humans down to a bug's level, or lift a bug to a human level, it's a distorted system of value. You're welcome to it, but please refrain from wagging your instructing finger at everyone else.

Also, don't you EAT? Do you only eat lifeless organic material? A dog is NOT the same as a human. A carrot is NOT the same as a human. A bug is NOT a human.

How far we've devolved in this world and our society.

Cancerous cells are LIFE too, so I assume when and if you are stricken with the disease you'll throw a party at the good news.

If a person gets their jollies by killing a higher order of life (though non-human) can we question their mental state? Sure. I wouldn't invite a joyous cat-killer over for pot roast. But I'd want a human-killer in jail. There may be moral turpitude involved in the former, but they are NOT the same thing.

                juvenaldelinquent,

My point was just stating the fact that all other lifes are just as important as humans. Take trees away, there would be no oxygen, therefore we would all die. Take bugs away, such as bees, and there would be no food. That is why I stated how we are NOT superior because we rely on other life forms to survive. I was NOT comparing a human to a carrot nor was I talking about cancer cells. I was simply stating a fact and answering why people were concerned about the dogs as well. All life is important. There was NO reason for you to call me a sociopath and all that other foul garbage. So please, keep your delinquent mouth shut unless you're going to have a nice, civilized discussion with me.

Not to take sides, but if you think about it there is only one species that could become extinct tomorrow and it would have absolutely zero negative impact on the planet. Humans. That being said, as much as I love my dog, the kids take priority. If I had to choose between saving the life of my child, and saving the life of my dog, that's a no brainer.

I agree with addy to a point my pets are my kids and I would lose it if someone killed my dog. They are members of my family as much as kids would be if I had decided to have some. Animal killers and abusers should be in prison and receive stiff sentences just like when they kill humans because people are just another type of mammal. Killing of animals is often the 1 st sign of a serial killer as is mutilation of animals.

So many young lives wasted by these cruel, evil people. Please read "my2centsworth" above. We all need to be more vigilent and if something is "off" with a family member, friend, boss or employee then take the necessary action. Two young girls died recently at the hands of teenagers, a nanny killed two of her employers children and now this woman kills one of her own and one she was babysitting. Then there was the monster mom who savagely beat her two year old and glued her hands to the wall. If someone out there thinks they are going to hurt their child(ren) please, in a moment of sanity, take them someplace safe - a hospital, police station and get some help.

The problem with that is that you can't arrest/detain/etc. someone just because someone else thinks they're off. What action could be taken, really? Talk to the person? Well, yeah, of course. Maybe get a clergyman to talk to them (if they're religious). Sure, no problem. But beyond that, until someone actually does something, there's nothing that can be done to legally physically prevent them from acting out.

Personally, I think if we did away with welfare and time clocked social benefits to months, instead of years (for the children too), there would be less of these kids in the world. People would have to learn to either rely on themselves or learn to use birth control...

Can someone answer for me, Why does every few posters assume a 'maybe they' position in their posts? Stories like these is a reminder that tomorrow is not promised! Do you know what happens when you die? When you close your eyes in this world you open them in another, then its Heaven or Hell. God loves us and sent His son Jesus to die as a sacrifice for our sins so we don't have to go to Hell. All you have to do is accept, confess Jesus as your saviour, and repent of your sins. This is the truth. Your opinions won't matter when you leave this planet!

HEY WAIT!!!! Don't leave out being baptised for the remission of your sins! For it is during baptism that a person (symbolically) comes into contact with Jesus' saving blood and is then covered in it. They are buried into the death of Christ and then they rise up out of the water of baptism and begin their new walk in life. Please don't leave this most important and most valuable step out of your advice to others on how to become a child of God and receive salvation. If anyone reading this dismisses it thinking that you already know about baptism and that it's not necessary for salvation....PLEASE reread your precious bible after you pray for God to open your eyes to the truth of His word first. People have been misinformed and are looking at scriptures through glasses that have been tainted by that misinformation. God Bless.

                                2cents,

baptism is a public profession of a one's acceptance of Jesus as their Savior. One's salvation does not hinge on being baptised. For example, when Jesus was crucified He told the thief on the cross, "This day you will be with me in paradise." That thief did not have the opportunity to be baptised yet he was saved. The only criteria for beind saved is the confession of Jesus as Savior and to ask for forgiveness for one's sins. We as human beings can do nothing in our flesh to earn salvation.

How do you know all of this? From a book written and rewritten over the centuries? Yeah... that makes a lot of sense. Actually, it's all a load of craap. There is no heaven or hell... just what you do with your precious little time on earth. Make the best of it... because we are all food for worms. Wanna know what really happens when you die? Simple... close your eyes and remember way back about 5 or 10 years before you were born. Remember that time? That exactly what it's going to be like when your dead. Nothing.

                                Mr. Blue,

You choose to believe (or not) in what (or nothing) YOU choose. I, on the other hand, choose to believe in Jesus Christ as my Savior. That belief does not make me weak, stupid, or any of the other labels people decide to attach to me. People yell tolerance, but when a Christian speaks their truth those who are yelling the loudest about tolerance are the first to jump on the band wagon to bash and demean those who do believe. You are probably one of the loudest voices in that group seeing that you were the first one to bash me. You do not know how I feel when people like you bash me. You think it makes me mad but it just encourages me more. Those who crucified Jesus bashed Him as well. I consider myself in great company. I will never know how much pain my Lord endured and I don't consider myself nearly close to His caliber but I am so very thankful that He sacrificed Himself to save a pitiful sinner like me.

Say what you will Mr. Blue; you have been given that right by many brave young men and women over the last few hundred years who paid the ultimate sacrifice, their lives, to ensure that you and I have that right. I am not here to cram my beliefs down your throat as you are so determined to do with me. You believe what you believe (or don't) and I believe what I believe. Nothing you can say will change my mind about Who I believe in. Do your best.

People like you apparently need God to prove Himself to you before you choose to believe. That is not what faith is all about. Faith is the belief in things unseen. I choose to believe in my Lord, Jesus Christ, whether I see Him or not.

I would rather live like God exists and die and find that He doesn't, than to live like God doesn't exist and die and find that He does!

                                P.S. Have a Blessed day.

I can't believe someone didn't know that something was "off" with this woman. People don't usually "just snap" without any warning whatsoever. I have dealt with postpartum depression, and it was a very noticeable descent into some very scary madness, but everyone that knew me knew that I was "off" and I also recognized it and asked for help to overcome it. If this was not this result of mental illness, it must have been drugs and surely someone knew she was doing them?

Post-partum depression 5 years after birth? Possible, but highly unlikely. Whatever the reason, sterilize this stank and throw her in prison...

I have had it "up to here" with all the lame stupid excuses these women and their so called doctors and lawyers claim. NO one put the knife in her hand. TRY her and the FRY her. She does not deserve to live. Those children did absolutely nothing to deserve what she did to them.

My sympathies to the families involved. My prayers to the young one now fighting for her life.

No excuse. No leniency. Killing children is as heinous as you can get, so the punishment needs to be swift and severe. Oh, and throw in a little more for the killing of the dogs, too.

I have always consider most folks the same and equal but....anyone that thinks they are no better than a dog? Why did I bother? I know I am. And if you do not think I am, or your are, you have a very serious problem.

I agree with one of the first posters above.....immediate death penalty for anyone convicted of killing a child. This sh*t has got to f******g stop. Obviously life in prison or a mental hospital is not enough of a deterrent.

I don't know of a positive being this age. The positive was growing up as a kid without the internet, cable news, TV's. Us kids lived a life of not knowing of the outside world. We never heard about drugs or the dress patterns of teenagers. We thought we were cool having flat tops as hair cuts. To this day I wonder how I would of been, if I had all this news as the kids today have. The part of school I liked. The teacher would paddle you and send you back to class. Without ever calling the parents. Knowing my Dad would of gave me a lot worst paddling.

As for as this woman killing these two kids and dogs. You don't want to hear my words about that mother on this horrible crime.

There was that infamous day, Dec 7 1941, when most say our innocence was lost. I am not sure that was it. The day we loose our innocence is the day each of us hear for the first time some immoral, cold hearted, and cruel act being perpetrated by another human being. Mine I remember distinctively. It was 12:30 pm, Friday, November 22, 1963. I was in the 2nd grade and we were having lunch in the school cafeteria when they announced our President had just been gunned down in the streets of Dallas. My life changed that day, forever. There is a certain blissfulness to ignorance...but then our caricature is built by our suffering-and enduring. Hopefully we will be better-someday. Just some ramblings of someone looking back with you.....I would rather not say, as well, what I think of this mother...and loose what precious little there is left of my own innocence.

Well, seeing no one knows the circumstances surrounding this terrible event, it's far too easy to pass judgement. Unfortunately the innocent are always the ones to suffer the most. Who knows, maybe the woman was taking anti depressants, or was some religious freak. Something was up with her.

This nut wanted to kill every living thing around her. If someone, anyone happened upon her she would have tried to kill them too. This is someone who should be put to death by baseball bat. A child who looks to you and depends on you for their life. We are now on our second or third generation of parents who never should have re-produced

I agree, there has been a huge shift in the younger generations since of responsibility. They seem to blame others for the troubles that they bring upon themselves and armed with only a I, me and myself mentality. No patience and a wish for instant gratification of their own selfish wants and wishes..

Raising children requires a lot of self-sacrifice towards the giving of ones personal time and materialistic things.

Dogs also demand attention and have needs like being walked and feed.

Perhaps she was just talking on the phone and neither the kids or the dogs shut up when she told them too.

                                          She shut them up permanently!!!!

I don't think it matters if it was the mother, father, or anyone. The fact is that two innocent children were brutally murdered when they should have had more of a life. I am a pet lover, but in this case the dogs really aren't the big deal. I cannot imagine taking the life of another human being, and even if the murderer has a mental issue, she needs to be held accountable. I am tired of hearing of people doing something and then they claim insanity. Really? We are all insane at one time or another. It doesn't matter what the circumstances of her actions are, she needs to burn in he(( (to repeat someone else's comment) and the State of Illinois needs to do something about it. Otherwise she will sit in some institution or prison, she will say she is reformed, and she still has a life. What about the two children ... they sure don't have a life anymore. Just plain sick!
