After considering these details I will have to respectfully disagree with the argument about religion having everything to do with this woman's actions. If, in her mind, she took such actions on her children (God love 'em) in order to perform exorcisms of sorts, then why would she feel the need to mask something supposedly religion-based by telling someone she was robbed, or even worse, telling someone else she was actually seeking revenge (something that is supposed to be the Lord's) against her husband.

It is very likely that she is suffering from paranoid schizophrenia. It is also likely that she has been seen by a mental health professional (e.g. psychiatrist) who knew she was a risk but let her roam free in society. This is the person who should be prosecuted for the children's death. This has nothing to do with religion.

Yay! I can see some here actually have some experience with mental illness, namely paranoid schizophrenia. I've also had plenty of experience with that so I'm going to tell you all a little story about someone I know with this horrid disease.

I have to preface though by saying a couple of things. First of all, it is completely ignorant of people to blame the acts committed while a person is suffering from a psychotic episode on religion. Do a little research before spouting off on something you know nothing about. You can blame a lot of things on religion but this isn't one of them. (And remember, just because someone claims to do something in the name of God doesn't mean God condones what they did.)

Secondly the mother-in-law of one of my friends works in a mental hospital. You can pretty well imagine that she sees it all. This is what she said: When it comes to paranoid schizophrenia there are three things they become paranoid about. Those three things are (and there may only be one or two or all three together): government, aliens, and religion. She said if a person doesn't have a religious background their paranoia will be about government or aliens. If a person has a religious background sometimes their paranoia will be about demons, etc.

Now about the person I know: She was raised a Christian. She's very intelligent and has an interest in politics. We've seen enough strange light shows in the sky that we both wonder about aliens. She spent years on the internet "researching" conspiracy theories. This was a symptom of her illness. The more a person reads conspiracy theories the more they believe they're true and the more paranoid they become. This is not necessarily a symptom of an illness but can be. Anyone who knows anything about conspiracy theories has heard of the so-called Illuminati group (whether they exist or not I've no clue, I just have read what was supposed to be information about them). This person lived this stuff for years. A few years later her mental illness escalated and eventually she had several complete psychotic break-downs. Between those episodes she was working on writing a story and there was a group she based on the "Illuminati" but gave a different name. During one of her psychotic episodes she believed that group (she called them by the name she had made up) had planted bombs in her yard. She believed that to the point where two years later, after she was on proper medication, she called me and asked if I would call her insurance company because she was sure she had some kind of hazardous waste clean-up insurance and wanted someone in there to clean it up.

That is just one tiny fraction of the various things she went through while she was psychotic. I could write a book about everything she has told me over the years, including "channeling" President Bush, alien abduction and missing time episodes, "angels" telling her that relatives had died (relatives which in reality were very much alive), etc.

The point is, aside from religious aspects being a part of their paranoia, it is a mental disease caused by either a break-down between the two sides of the brain or by a chemical imbalance. Neither religion, nor aliens, nor government have caused it.

The article states the she contacted people and stated that she "did something bad." Right there, she blew her chance for insanity. The defense has to prove that their client is so divorced from reality that they really do not understand that what they did was actually wrong.

Especially if it's a child or person who is incapable of defending themselves. The death penalty actually costs the tax payer more. More for court costs, psychologist/psychiatrists, attorneys, appeals. The shot is the least of the expenses. Life in prison without hope for parole is a cheaper alternative.

That is why they need to simplify the process Momma Rose. If they are found guilty, wait a week then take them out back to the firing squad.

No sane person could do such a thing and she clearly needs to be locked in a rubber room. What's the point of murdering, I mean death penalty, of someone that isn't sane in the first place? Is the death penalty revenge? Why is killing her so appealing to you.

Obviously what she did is horrifying, but spending the money to chase a death penalty is a waste of time since the defense will almost certainly be able to prove she is mentally ill. It also won't change what happened to those children.

If you are really so appalled then support greater funding for the treatment of the mentally ill. In America we push the mentally ill out on the street and of course they are ticking time-bombs ready to explode. If we took mental illness seriously and treated people this kind of horrible act wouldn't happen. If you really want to help then work to treat the sick, instead of demanding the death of mentally ill people when they snap.

My thoughts? Women who kill their children are acting out of ego. They obviously don't value the life of their child so they kill them. They think they are the victim of neglect, abuse, or they have post partum? depression, or their hair do that day was a strand off... they always have some stupid @!$%#ing excuse for taking the lives of the innocent and pure...yes, they could be the subject of abuse...but killing their children is not forgivable. Women like that simply think they have all the rights that society can give them and care nothing about anyone other then themselves!!! Children deserve so much better then that!

VIOLENT paranoid schizophrenia (not screaming, only enunciating) is actually rare, but it does exist more often then not, and you are seeing it a lot more in the news. Usually those people also have bi-polar tendencies, amongst other mental disorders. Rehabbing someone who has gone that far to kill though is really not possible. They simply kill again. She executed her children to get back at her husband, so she needs to be executed before she kills again.

A violent paranoid schizo did a quad homicide 4 blocks from where I was living at the time. The victims were his sister, her boyfriend and a couple other friends. He was upstairs and did it because he thought he heard them talking about him. It doesn't take much (or anything at all if they're hallucinating) to set them off. This case certainly has all the hallmarks.

Religion wants to force every woman to carry every pregnancy to term no matter how unfit a parent the mother may be; the more extreme of the religious right even wants to ban contraception.
