Updated at 12:59 p.m. ET: The body discovered in a trunk along a Texas highway on Tuesday has been identified by the Dallas County medical examiner as 16-year-old Alicia Chanta Moore.

Greenville Police Department

Alicia Chanta Moore vanished on Friday.

Moore was reported missing Nov. 2 and was last seen getting off of a school bus at about 3:30 p.m. Friday near the corner of Bourland and Walnut streets.

What happened to Moore after she got off the bus remains a mystery. The school district's attempted to trace her school-issued iPad, but determined it had been reset and tracking disabled.

More stories from NBCDFW.com

A construction worker found Moore's body in a trunk that had been dumped along Farm-to-Market 47 near a bridge railing, four miles north of the town of Wills Point, at about noon Tuesday.

Greenville Police Chief Dan Busken will hold a news conference at 2 p.m. Wednesday where more information is expected to be released.

Moore was last seen wearing a white shirt, black undershirt, green jacket, pink headband and black glasses. She was carrying a black backpack and was also wearing earrings and a necklace.

NBC 5's Greg Janda contributed to this report.

How horrible!! We live in a truly sickening world. Weather child or adult, no one is really safe from these scums of the world. I hope the family gets lots of support from friends and others in their time of grief if this turns out to be their daughter.

Another tragedy, even more little girls are missing across America with their loved ones just waiting for the bad news.

The same old comments; reduced to themselves and fighting among themselves. One day you may understand that there are things more important than just yourself. The world does not turn around you, you are not the center of this universe.

Within the article there is this statement: " What happened to Moore after she got off the bus remains a mystery." Let me take an educated guess, one based on hundreds of thousands of previous attacks on innocent little children. This child was abducted by some monster, a pedophile, a creature for whom there is no cure.

There will, sadly soon be a mess of comments about prison and allowing the other inmates to serve the justice. More comments about castration. I suggest that the cops check that "registry" the national one for sex offenders. The one where these freaks must place his name after serving a year or two maybe in jail, a mere slap on the wrist....

How horrible for this little girl. No one will know her suffering and fright. How horrible for her family to have to live with this pain forever. And worse there will be more little kids destroyed tonight and tomorrow and tomorrow.

In short time we can drop them all at Guantanamo Bay with a shovel and seeds, a fish hook and line. The sharks will be the guards.

If all you can do is comment, please try and support some group in America who is working to stop this and who works to save those who have survived.

One is Focus Adolescent Services, Focusas.com There are others that I feel are doing good work. Support them, support the families, keep your eyes open and protect the children as your neighbors.

In the Bible there is an exception. Jesus said to turn the other cheek except when it came to those who harm children. He didn't mess with words on that. He said to weigh them down with stones and toss them into the water. The end.

Either you may not or teachers no longer teach morals. They don't give a damn. His hands will be slapped and death penalty opponents will preach that it is okay to breach a young lady's rights, and that you had better not compromise the rights of the scum that violated and murdered her. I disagree.

The putrid logic that capital punishment does not deter murderers is terribly flawed. This could easliy have been the killer's umpteenth kill. Take his life and see if it doesn't make a difference with HIM. Costly appeals? Bolderdash. Maybe one appeal, like he might have but DID not give to the girl. He doesn't mind killing so why should we? And I am not 'just sayin'.

No, MrCool, Jesus DID NOT say that. As Tom said, go read Matthew 18:6 for yourself. Jesus said that if anyone harmed a child, his wrath would be so terrible that it would be better if the person was tied to a stone and tossed into the sea. Please don't misquote the Bible to justify your sense of "justice."

We have an element in our society that is very, very sick. Usually the deviants are well hidden. Being a Christian I believe that these deviants are either demons or under the influence of the dark one. Individuals need to protect themselves with prayer and educate their children to do so also. We also need to keep our eyes open. There are flags and we need to be educated to what they are. Bless the loved ones of whoever was in that trunk on the side of the road in Texas. I hope and pray that the torment they will suffer is treated with the balm of the love God and decent people feel for them. I myself would go totally mad about these things without my faith. I cannot imagine how those who do not believe make it.

I hate to even have to agree with you David, but it sure as Hell seems that way. I am so tired of reading and hearing about these senseless cases of tragedy. As a recovering Christian and now mostly just Agnostic, I still find my self wanting to plead for "God" to stop all the madness. Where are all of the "Real Heroes?" It has to stop or be stopped and for all of the people out there that want to abolish the Death Penalty, you need to step aside and let these monsters die as terribly as they have killed the innocents. GOD HELP US ALL!!!! (I still don't have a problem with some one having faith, I think it is honorable and at least a sign of a caring individual. I have no problem with some one Else's faith, unless it interferes with doling out exact justice to a convicted [POS] twisted, sick, killer.)

and your facts are what David? First, just because someone claims to be a Christian doesn't make them a Christian. Also, out of the millions that are Christians, a few that do end up bad people is still a miniscule percent exploited by media. Also... last time I checked, there are murders every day, and generally speaking, by people of gang orientation that are not Christian. You sir, are a fool.

Not that some dead TX'n in a trunk has anything to do with mythology, but as a point of fact, murder and mayhem are part and parcel of Abrahamist DOGMA - as is stoning your wife, beating your children, killing gays and owning slaves. From public discourse, we learn Good Xtians have no problem executing the innocent as TX does and NO ONE on the national or international level has EVER denied the basic premise of Abrahamist faith - that your life, your child's life AND the lives of total strangers are worth LESS than their right to Abrahamist fanaticism. when the Pope decries child marriage, when the black-turbaned Ayatollahs & the headbobbers of Jerusalem together as one to DENY the horrors their fringe groups commit upon the world - THEN Xtians, Islamists and Jews together can say they value life over death. Until then, the death cults encourage fanatics because THAT'S where the money is. Look t up...

I protect myself with a Glock 17 Gen 3, a Mossberg 500 12-gauge, and an AR15 equipped with: a laser, EoTech 552 holographic sight, EoTech G33 switch-to-side magnifying scope, Accutact corner sight (for shooting around corners) , and Israeli-made dual handgrip/bipod.

According to (some) Christian beliefs, God has everything that you're going to do all written down before you're even born. That whole predestination thing. So if God already has 'such and so will be murdered on such a date' is praying really going to change that?

And if praying makes God erase something that he's already predestined to happen, then who really has the power to change things--Him or you? If praying changes His mind, then he's not really all powerful and all knowing, and responsibility for your own destiny then lies with you.

And of course, the Bible says that God is in every man and woman, and nothing happens without his say-so--Satan only has the power God allows him, right? So either God was inside whoever did this, or he stood back and allowed it to happen...which circles back to the argument that prayer doesn't change anything.

It's contradictions like this that are part of the reason why I'm not Christian anymore (was raised Catholic by a devout Irish Catholic family.)

Executions don't prevent them from murdering - it just prevents them from murdering again. Don't get me wrong - I'm all for the death penalty. But as long as humans keep breeding there will always be a given number of mutants bred that will commit heinous crimes. Laws don't prevent criminals from acting out, laws just establish levels of standards and penalties for infractions. The justice system is the menace to society by encouraging the prosecutors to focus on their win/loss record at the expense of justice.

Recent events have bugged me so much that I spoke to my entire soccer team of early teen girls about creepy guys, how to identify potential threats (whether strangers or those of us they know), and how to get away from them. I don't know if it will ever help them, but I hope so if needed.

I hear you Lou, but speaking as a father, I have to think that most of the creeps we want to proctect our daughters from happen to be male. My daughter does have a school coach I am concerned with though.....she's one really creepy lady.

I agree with Creek Dog. They can only report what they know. (technically)A body was found. They said it was human. They said the body was in one piece. Meaning: Not dismembered. They said a construction worker discovered the trunk with the remains inside, the time of day of the discovery, and the location. FM47 (farm to market) about 4 miles north of Wills Point. They told us the authorities on scene would not tell them anything other than it was human, it was dead, and no obvious signs of cause of death.

They also included the information on the missing girl from nearby Greenville and that the coroner had requested her dental records for the investigation, and the Police had informed the family that the body was that of a black female.

Unless they have a crystal ball and a Hollywoood CSI Team on hand, I must say the article at this point is pretty damn thorough actually. It has given me enough to know that once that trunk was opened and they saw it was a black female the Wills Point Police were notified and they were on scene to do a cursory identification, the coroner requested the dental records of a specific missing black female(keep in mind, coroners don't just start requesting dental records for missing teenagers until there is something to match them to). I think most people with any usefull gray matter can conclude that the Authorities know the body is that of the missing teenager and are waiting for confirmation from the coroner and of course the cause of death and any other important information that they feel you, Lawrence, are in need of.

They just want to be the ones to break the story. It tends to be counter-productive. This was such a F'd up report that there is little motivation to check back. It won't be updated because there has been such little exposure so far.

                      Creek Dog,

I disagree. I think it was a poorly written article. The reference to where she was found, "in a trunk" on the side of the highway, failed to make it clear that this was NOT the trunk of a car, but a trunk for storing clothing or other such items. I agree that they can't release information they don't have, they can put the information they DO have into a comprehensible and literate article. This particular story doesn't meet that goal.

In fairness to Southerners, not all racists are Southern Republicans. There are a fair number of racist Indiana Republicans. (That state had the highest KKK membership once)

I am curious as to where you were able to find information which ties this murder to politics?

Obummer made murder political. He referred to the murders of four Americans as "bumps in the road". Benghazi may not ring a bell yet because NBCSnooze has avoided coverage of it. It is still an outcome of a youtube video.

This is just the ill continuation of the "Jack The Ripper" phenomenon. Even if he was elected, a President Romney could not stop this anyway.

                            Hey Rick the lib:

You said,"so what you are saying is that now racists have a reason to be racists? That's what the core of the republican party is now you know...a bunch of dumb southern racists..."

You are right Ricky. Every day Obama is in office and libs like you breed, "dumb" southern racists keep getting more racist and keep buying more guns and ammo to take care of business when the time is right. It's coming Ricky...huh, huh, huh errr duhh.

I was hoping they were going to tell us it was Barak Obama. No such luck. Evil has triumphed. We didn't just lose an election, we lost our nation. R.I.P. second amendment. R.I.P. constitution. R.I.P. America. Let the wars begin.

Sorry there for your perceived loss midnightridr, but in reality, OUR NATON was just Saved from a complete corporate buyout and shipping off to China of what is left of the Middle Class of America. if Romney had won the Presidency, it would have been less than 3 years. Now, WE, the actual working Americans(yes, the middle class) have at least four more years to survive the republican nightmare that all-most destroyed the WHOLE DAMN WORLD. Get over it, you have four more years to cry about it.

Maybe so Bryan and Janine, but either way we can kiss freedom goodbye forever. Last night's election just drove the final nail in that coffin. Get ready for the ushering in of a one world communist dictatorship.

Okay Midnight, while I sadly don't necessarily disagree with the fact that the world is headed towards a "One World Government", we basically, just strategically avoided that consequence for at least Four More Years by Re-Electing President Obama versus Romney. Romney did not care one iota about you, me, or any one in this Country making less than $500,000.00 a year, or any one who wasn't a fanatical, die-hard re-thuglican. That worthless turd, ted nugent said he might kill himself if Obama got re-elected, I will gladly supply the ordnance for him personally. America, and Americans just got a 4 Year reprieve from the depravity of the Republican party's plan to kill the American Middle Class. You should be rejoicing that fact and not trying to deny it.

At least we can partially agree on something. Like I said, either way, rep or dem, no matter, the America that used to be is history. All I see coming in the future is unrest, turmoil, and downright pure hell on this earth, worldwide. Good luck to all, but even with that, I don't believe the largest majority of us stands the chance of a glass of icewater in hell.

Thank goodness a bunch of Republicans lost. Because, before long we will accuse girls like this of committing suicide by climbing into a trunk and suffocating herself to death, rather than bringing the "gift of life" the rapist left in her womb. Others may argue her body would have shut out the rape sperm to begin with, so she was stupid to go committing suicide like that.

                                        Thank God those Republicans lost!

Here is a sad fact for you all, around 1000 people go missing every day in the USA, and are never heard of again. Their remains may be found the next day or the next year but they are dead none the less. We don't hear about them in the news unless it's some high profile case. Additionally, there are around 75-100 serial killers working the country that are known to law enforcement, and by known that is their mode of killing not identity or location. Having worked in forensics for the last 12 years I have seen some of the worst that man can do to another human being, now I work to help identify the missing using DNA technology and we are flooded with remains that go unidentified. Hopefully they can identify this person and give closure to the family.

It doesn't matter the age, sex, race or political affiliation of the deceased. The fact remains that someone was killed, probably brutually, and then disposed of like last week's garbage. I feel for the family of the deceased and hope that the person or persons responsible will be found quickly and brought to justice.

The area is filled with criminals (many nice people as well of course). Anyone in that area who would kill a child would probably be familiar with remarketing stolen property as well. My wife is from the Greenville area, and the city has some pretty nasty areas.

I didn't even know that this girl was missing! The last few missing girls, the story was blown up & all over...

Whats different in this abduction? Is it because the girl missing wasen't white? I'm white so don't troll me...

Just was curious as why this story wasen't blown up... The last girls had everyone & there Moms looking for them, FBI, Sheriffs, Police, & neighbors... I remember reading all the updates. I haven't heard a peep from this story! Sad that another little girl was murdered. This will stop if we start making examples of these People Men & Women, an earlier post said it was just Men that did this. Not true. Mostly Men, but women are pedophiles as well. My ex-girlfriend was molested from 2-13 by her aunt. Sad that this happens to innocent little girls & boys all over the world. We should really start hanging pedophiles after the first offense. We should take a Vote on a National level, whether or not to hang these people as soon as they are convicted. No appeals, do not pass go. Death. & then maybe just maybe this stuff will become a distant memory. Scare tactics could work in preventing atleast 1/4 of rapes & murders... Just my opinion... I don't believe in god, so to the family, may the Universe be good to you're family in the future...

                                                                  Reply#22 - Wed Nov 14, 2012 1:05 AM EST

They need to go out screaming in agony, begging for their mamas. If she was raped, castrate them before killing them, and maybe blowtorch their eyes out for good measure. Maybe when we resolve to be less cowardly towards these monsters they'll get the message. And if not, at least they will die experiencing some measure of the pain, horror, and agony of being murdered thay they forced on their victims. Send them all back to hell where they apparently came from.
