Towns in New Jersey scrambled to prepare for their first major winter storm not long after Hurricane Sandy destroyed huge swaths of coastline. NBC's Katy Tur reports.
Updated at 1 a.m. ET: Snow fell on damaged homes and debris piles in parts of the New York City area as a nor'easter moved in Wednesday, causing new power outages and calls for evacuations.
By Wednesday night, the winds had caused more than 100,000 new power outages in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, the U.S. Energy Department stated. That brought the total number to 715,000, most of those remaining from Superstorm Sandy, which made landfall in New Jersey on Oct. 29.
Throughout the Tri-state area, people wore coats indoors as they endured yet another night without heat. Some of those who had weathered Sandy told NBC New York on Wednesday they were petrified.
"It's like a sequel to a horror movie," said James Alexander, a resident of the hard-hit Rockaway Peninsula. "Here we are, nine days later — freezing, no electricity, no nothing, waiting for another storm."
Alexander's home was spared when Sandy hit, but homes around him burned to the ground, and the boardwalk near his home was washed out to sea.
"They said it would be a rough winter," he noted to NBC New York.
One local resident refuses to be driven out by the latest storm, a combo of snow and rain that is threatening areas already ravaged by Hurricane Sandy. NBC's Stephanie Gosk reports.
About 1,200 flights were canceled across the Northeast, while residents of a few areas hit hardest by Superstorm Sandy last week were urged to evacuate in case of new flooding. Long Island Rail Road service was also suspended before 7 p.m. because of weather-related signal problems, NBC New York reported.
A punishing nor'easter is expected to dump snow on storm-battered New York and New Jersey. NBC's Jay Gray reports.
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg directed police to use their patrol car loudspeakers to warn the 20,000 to 30,000 residents in vulnerable areas to evacuate. In Belle Harbor, in Queens, police patrolled the streets, advertising a warming shelter. Officers found that most had left their homes to stay with family, NBC New York reported.
In Toms River, N.J., residents of nearby barrier island communities lashed out at the city council because they had not been allowed to return to their homes since before Sandy hit.
Said one resident at a city council meeting: "These people need to understand it's our island, it's our home, and we need to defend it like it's a castle."
The snow from the latest Nor'easter is expected to continue through midnight before finally winding down in the early hours of Thursday morning. NBC's Janice Huff reports.
The nor'easter, dubbed "Athena" by The Weather Channel, could produce strong gusts that could also turn up piled debris from Sandy into projectiles. (Last month, The Weather Channel announced it will name noteworthy winter storms in an effort to “better communicate the threat and the timing of the significant impacts that accompany these events.")
"One of the bigger concerns ... would be the debris that's been piled up from all the residences and the businesses," Kevin O'Hara, police chief in Point Pleasant, N.J., told The Weather Channel.
From weather.com: Storm's city-by-city forecasts
"With winds picking up to 30-, 40-, 50-mile-per-hour gusts," he added, "our fear is that if people are out and about they could be hit by flying debris. We would urge people to stay in their houses, stay home, and let the storm pass."
The Long Island Power Authority dedicated more than 12,000 workers to restoring power to its customers -- 8,000 of those workers were linemen and tree trimming crews from around the country, including some who had been airlifted in by the National Guard.
Sea Bright, N.J., is among the areas fearing new flooding on Wednesday. Katy Tur reports.
Snow storms are unusual at this time of year in the New York area. Snowfall had never previously been recorded at Islip, N.Y., Kennedy and LaGuardia airports.
Central Park recorded 2.8 inches of snowfall, beating the 1878 record of 0.1 inches. Bridgeport, Conn., saw 3.5 inches, breaking the former record of 2.0 inches set in 1953. In Newark, N.J., 2.0 inches fell; trace amounts had been recorded in 1981.
"It's not a massive nor'easter by winter standards," said Weather Channel expert Tom Niziol, "but at this time of year immediately after Sandy's wrath and destruction, this isn't what we want."
"Mother Nature is not cutting us a break along the East Coast," he said.
As the day cooled into night, The Weather Channel forecast three inches of snow in Philadelphia with wind gusts over 30 mph, a combination of wet snow and wind in New Jersey, and snowfall totals of six to 12 inches in southeastern New York and New England.
NBCNewYork.com's coverage of nor'easter
In New York, Bloomberg expected up to three inches of snow. He said no new flooding occurred along the city's coastal areas "through the first and most dangerous cycle of high tide" on Wednesday afternoon.
Bloomberg had ordered three nursing homes and an adult care facility evacuated Tuesday from Queens' vulnerable Rockaway Peninsula. About 620 residents were moved.
Fearing winds could down more trees, the city also closed all parks, playgrounds and beaches at noon Wednesday, and ordered all construction sites to be secured.
Airlines cancel flights ahead of nor'easter
Sandy killed more than 100 people, mainly in New York City and New Jersey, and left more than 8 million homes and businesses without power.

Fearing looters, Alex Ocasio told The Associated Press that he planned to ride out the latest storm in his first-floor Rockaway apartment — even after seeing cars float by his front door during Sandy.
As the water receded during Sandy, men dressed in dark clothes broke down the door and were surprised to find him and other residents inside, he said.

"They tried to say they were rescue workers, then took off," he said.
He put up a handmade sign — "Have gun. Will shoot U" — outside his apartment and started using a bed frame to barricade the door. He has gas, so he keeps the oven on and boils water to stay warm at night.
"It gets a little humid, but it's not bad," he said. "I'm staying. Nothing can be worse than what happened last week."

The headline makes it sound like a cooking recipe! Sure hope all residents affected make it through this Nor'easter in better shape than they did during Hurricane Sandy.
Couldn't happen to a better place -- you reap what you sow.
Dottie..what in the world are you talking about??
Dottie,
Jersey boy here. Your post is completely unwarranted and I see you voted for yourself. You make no sense at all. Leave the commenting up to us adults.
And remember, what comes around, goes around.
Thanks Jack & Dave.
Have a nice day...
Where is aLL that government help that obama is always crowing about..Isn't the government supposed to take care of us from cradel to grave?..Lets get FEMA on the move..Help those people..I'll bet you right now, that there will STILL be thousands out of homes, out of gas, no heat or electricity, SIILL when Christmas rolls around..The help wont be comming anytime soon folks because the photo opps have alreaded ended..Have a Merry Christmas
Divide and conquer....reading these first comments, looks like the division is complete, all that is left is to conquer by debt.
dottie shove your head up your a.. your reap what you sow, god what a turd you are.
I am still having difficulty understanding why these people didn't prepare for the storm Sandy. They were given a 8 day warning, and yet they stayed, lives were lost, and now this. Hopefully they will do better in preparing this time around. I wish them the best, and hopefully they will listen to the authorities and take the help that is offered to them.
creekdog and battle
both of you can take your own comments and, well you know!
BTW I'm sure you #$%clowns voted your own comments, too!
Look out stock market...capital gains about to get hit
Wow Dottie, how to have compassion for your fellow humans! No area in any country is perfect. Sandy may not have effected us horribly here in PA but I lost my car to a tree and my power for 6days... but in the end my family and friends are alive and doing well which is really what matters most!
Terry,
"That's a girls name, correct?!" Heh heh...
Thanks and have a nice day :-)
lyndanne, im in pa too it was crazy.never saw the sky light up blue green and orange before.trees falling all over the place.thankfully no one i know got hurt or killed.and for texas terry, wish you were here maybe you wouldnt be defending dildo dottie.you must be a Xtian to defend her stupid comments that fully.up yours truly, battle.
GM Jack and Creekdog,
Hope they are all well on the east coast, wish I could do more to help than I have.
Dottie and Terry, I am sure you are both the face of modern ultra-liberalism or ultra-conservatism, now SUS with your hate filled diatribes and let the adults
Creekdog, Dave-perfectly said. Dottie is dipsy or something. Does she feel everyone in who suffered from Katrina is a toofless redneck layabout?
I'm from NYC, now Long Island, plenty of family in NJ. All hard-working, middle-class folks, incl NYPD, NYFD, attorney who works for underdogs, incl animals...
Dottie is too narrow-minded to realize the people in NY, in Breezy Point. NJ and all over the tri-state area are wonderful, friendly and open. Yes, we have to scoot real fast and try and get around, such as get to work on time even after trains repeatedly pulled in too full to squeeze into. That is life. But go up to those same folks at lunch time, sitting on the steps eating, and people will end up hangione out with their new friends. Mind you, I am excepting the skanks that are everywhere in the country, and the thieves concentrated on Wall St.
Who will pay for this socialist future???
Since we have been living a meager life in rural Ohio for years now with no help from the liberal socialists who see only the large population centers because they are their paid for power base we will continue to suffer.. A 1 month heating oil supply will cost us 2/3 of our income so our house temperature is a balmy 60 deg. tops so we have money to eat and pay bills.. Their solution is for us to file bankruptcy and move to a tenement in the inner city and become dependant on the federal and state governments, no thanks.. When we get hit with the mandatory health care and all the taxes that support it we may have to live in a shack in the woods.. At least the social break down that happened in the past has not reared its ugly head on the East coast so far.. So keep smooching liberal socialist a$$ and forget about the millions of rural families that are being $hit canned in their name.. Such a savior of the auto industry, those people who benefited from taxpayers money would not risk a dime of their own money on their own business.. Why was that???
aw boo hoo hoo Roadrunner0....I think someone needs some 420 Love!!!
Blade-865322, apparently you are not in the affected area to see all the help that is going on around here. BTW, did you donate...I bet the only thing you donated was your criticism of something that does not affect you at this moment. You make a great example of ignorance!!!
Laffy Taffy, how do you prepare to lose your home or a life, for that matter? And how does a person prepare when they have food, water and all the necesseties but alas, your home is a pile of rubble. Did you open your home to help these people? I wonder how many people in Florida are prepared for an earthquake? How many people on the west coast are prepared for a hurricane? How many places across the country are prepared for a terrorist attack?
I bet you are not prepared as well as you think you are...unless you are a millionaire and have a second home to flee to during a "predicted" storm!!!
TerryFromWeatherfordTX...hmmm, TEXAS!!! Yep, now we know your mentality!! I think we should sell Texas to the mexicans!! LMAO
Roadrunner0, "a meager life in rural Ohio"...is what you chose, right? Did you go to college and what is your profession? Why wouldn't you move to somewhere more populated with higher earning power? Heck, that college degree, especially a Masters in a high-demand field should be earning you big bucks if you are good at what you do.
I grew up in rural NH but went to private school. At age 18 I had my own business on Martha's Vineyard then sold it 4 years later to move to NYC for a college degree. 18 years later I now have 3 college degrees and live outside of the city. If it wasn't for health care being so lousing in the last 12 years I would be doing much better. Even with a 6-figure income I still see more than 60% of my income out of pocket going toward my health care. Now with the Affordable Health Care laws/mandates in place, finally I can set out to accomplish what I went to college for in the first place...a rewarding career, beathing the odds of Cystic Fibrosis and helping those who are like me...determined!!
BO, go there and tell them that.maybe theyll eat you for dinner.
Julie....I hate to give you some BAD news but YOU are the EXCEPTION rather than the rule..
If by age 18 we ALL had owened our own business in Marthas Vinyard and then sold it 4 years later to move to NYC for a college degree, then 18 years later have 3 college degrees and live outside the city..Then MAYBE just MAYBE, we wouldnt be in the mess we're in right now..We wouldnt have food stamps cause everyone could have used their college degrees to help them find work..And we wouldn't have welfare for the same reason, and SSI and the list goes on and on and on for any number of social programs..Surely to GOD, you having 3 college degrees can see that things CANT continue the way they are...
We CANT continue to run TRILLION dollar deficits and run the national debt up to $16.32 TRILLION DOLLARS..
We CANT continue to raise the dependency on the food stamp program to just survive.. Do you know that if we put as many people on food stamps the next 4 years as we have this past 4 years, there will be 70 MILLION people drawing food stamps in America..
We CANT continue to survive when a full 49% of American households recieve some sort of government assistance..
We CANT continue to loose our AAA rating because the lower our rating goes the higher the intrest rate goes on our national debt..
Do you know that as of today our debt EQUALS our GNP?? That CANT continue..
You all might laugh and snicker and sneer right now at my comments, but take a GOOD look at Greece right now..THATS the New united States in 5 years {or sooner} if things stay the way they are..
I'm glad for you that Obamacare will work wonders for you..I truely am..BUT..For every positive that will come out of this, how many negatives will there be???How are the unemployed going to buy mandated health insurance??
I'm a coal miner..Pure and simple..I went 3 years of college..Biology was my major..Had a 3.6 gpa..But I CHOOSE not to continue college, cause after three years, I needed something new..That doesnt make me LESS determined than you..I just decided to turn my dertimination in another direction..So I got a job..In the coal industry..Which is just as AMERICAN as ANY Auto job that our great leader pumped BILLION of dollars into to save..In fact, if it werent for the coal miners, that steel that they make cars out of doesnt exist..But anyways..OBAMA is doing to the coal industry what he did to the auto industry..BUT IN REVERSE..He and the EPA have decimated the coal industry because its just too "dirty" in his eyes..ALL the while, China is putting an average of FOUR coal fired power plants online every week..All that does, is give them an unfair work advantage over Americans{as if they needed more} because they can use "CHEAP" energy made from coal in thier manufacturing..Something we arent able to do here anymore..
So please instead of looking "down" your nose at people who "prefer" to live in rural areas instead of move to the big city like yourself in search of God knows what..and in "your eyes" somehow LESS dertimined than yourself... Tell YOUR president to just leave the coal industry alone and LET PEOPLE WORK GOOD DECENT JOBS instead of putting us all on food stamps and social programs that we dont want..
My rant has ended..Thank GOD
Roadrunner0 we have all been forgotten, not just in the country...the city too...
None of you helped a person that became homeless due to the economy, none of you helped the 47 million out of work and hungry....none of you dontated to us...this is a current crisis and all you want are handouts even thou you admit to having a home...at least you have one.
BO, you are the epitome of everything that is wrong with this country today, and a sorry excuse for a human being!
United we stand ...divided we fall...anything else is total crap.
My best wishes and well being for those on the northern east coast of AMERICA....from this ol' west coaster... I hope you ALL recover... as we are ALL AMERICANS
Well Julie, let me ask you something..Did YOU donate when a tornado ripped though my little town and completely wiped it off the map???..Did you or ANYONE else in the North East part of the country donate to help us out?? Did you open your home to the suffering people..I know first hand how it is to go without electricity, food, water, the basic nessessities of life..So I ask YOU..IF I make a great example of ignorance, then what does that make YOU???Just come down off your HIGH HORSE before you get a nose bleed will ya?..Just because you have THREE college degrees doesnt make you 'smarter' then everyone else..
Oh and Julie...
We DONT have to sell Texas back to the mexicans..Thanks to Obamas srtingent immigration laws and enforcement of them, The Mexicans OWN Texas already..
Dotties girl, don't disaster troll or it will lead to a suspension.
haha, the "compassionate" Repubs are showing their true colors today after getting butt****ed in front of the world last night.
I love it.
I guess gloating is compassion according to the Liberal playbook now... par for the course. At least you can say your favorite team won, that's what's important, right? Not consequences...as long as you can say you won that's all that matters.
Thank you Sally!
BTW, nice smile.... ;-)
Not to worry, President Obama is going to help everyone so they are taken care of.
When will blade find out who the true helpers are and who the true screw'ers of society (as in socialism, the other name for society) are.
He hates the white hats who would be the only ones willing to help him while seemingly giving the green light to the black hats. Their only desire is to come in and give him another round of their love and devotion before going forth to rob and rape the next hapless soul.
I find that far to many of the connected Neo Cons will see you as food if you have any visible weakness. They will simply eat you and spit out anything they cannot absorb as useless.
That is truly Biological and probably a Mitt'ism
@ Blade
OBAMA is doing to the coal industry what he did to the auto industry..BUT IN REVERSE..He and the EPA have decimated the coal industry because its just too "dirty" in his eyes..ALL the while, China is putting an average of FOUR coal fired power plants online every week
Yes, and what do you think one of the main differences in China and the US is? Having traveled to Beijing I can attest to the deplorable environmental conditions there. After 2-3 hours your esophagus and lungs feel like you've been breathing in diesel fumes, except you can't "step away from the truck" because that's just flat out the quality of their air, whether you are in your hotel room, a restaurant, etc.
I've also worked in Indiana, PA. A huge coal area that generates all of their electricity via coal. When it rains in Indiana, PA, it looks like milk splashing on your windshield. It's all the suspended particulates in the air the rain contacts. People wash their houses off once a week with a hose so their siding doesnt turn yellow. Oh, and the asthma rates are through the roof.
But F*** it! We can have cheaper electricity! Because THAT is what has created the economic mess we are in! Not unregulated mortgage default swaps or repackaging of awful loans as solid 401k investments, it's electricity!
Any relevance that the storm is only hitting BLUE states? If the Lord was going to give the world an enema, he would insert it somewhere in New England, NY/NJ area. John Rocker was right on. Just joking, except for the Rocker comment.
Anyone know of non-religious charities that I could give clothes to for people in these devastated areas? Red Cross and Salvation Army are both religious based, so I will not give to them, but would gladly like to see these get to people who need them desperately.
trust, I would like to think that if you were truly serious about giving, you would be researching the answer to you own question on the net and not be asking people in this forum. However, if I am wrong and you are the type of humanitarian that will withhold help based on your feelings about religion, then you should load up your car and make a personal delivery or think of changing your name. Someone once said, "You may be deceived if you trust too much, but you will live in torment if you don't trust enough."
@ DMAN..
So tell me DMAN, where is Coal burned more efficently and with LESS pollution..HERE or in CHINA?..The simple answer to that is HERE..Where it is atleast regulated to some degree..Do YOU and OBAMAGOD and the EPA think that all those deisel fumes that you cant step away from in China, do you all think that it stays in China??..NEWS FLASH...We live in a box...What we do here effects there and vice versa..We'll eventually breath the SAME pollution that they breathe..The simple solution to all this is to ban coal from being burned ANYWHERE on planet earth..Think the Chineese will go along with that??
One more thing..Something to think about..The obama administration is pushing natural gas as the save all CLEAN energy of the future..It has 50% LESS pollution than coal..{50% less pollution, but STILL pollution}...There are as of today 172 coal fired power plants in the Us...Next year 54 are slated for closure.. That will leave 118 plants that are supposedly being converted into natural gas..If you could change ALL the plants into natural gas tomorrow..And THEN figure in ALL the homes in the United States that use Natural GAS to heat with, which energy source produces MORE pollution...Natural gas or coal? The answer to that is Natural gas by a lONG SHOT..That clean, safe abundant energy source of the future..
I'm not following you're logic here.
To your first point, are you saying that since China is burning coal, we should just burn it as well? That's like saying "Well my wife smokes, so I'll take up smoking too!"
So natural gas makes 50% less pollution, but since it's being used to convert all the coal-fired plants, it will become a bigger polluter than coal?
Dottie is just jealous of people from the NE. LOL. I can understand why. We get the first of everything.
The country desparately needs the liberal and nipplesucking population severely culled. Here's hoping for maximum damage and carnage. If NY, NJ, Conn, Mass were wiped off the map, America would be a far better place. Only the complete loss of California would be better.
It Already IS a bigger polluter than coal..Thats my point..All you hear is that natural gas is the save all because it produces 50% LESS pollution than coal....If you have a coal plant that produces 80% pollution..Switch that over to natural gas it STILL produces 40% pollution..I'll agree that If you switch ALL coal fired plants oVER to natural gas, you will have HALF the pollution..BUT...When you consider that 60% of households in the us are heated by natural gas{Roughly 200 million} THAT pollution coupled with the pollution that you get from GAS fired power plants is WAY more than what is produced by burning coal..The reason is, that homes arent heated with coal anymore.
Then to addrerss your other point..What gooddoes it do us to try and save the planet when no one else will help??..We're a powerful nation, no doubt about that..But..Say we cut our carbon production in half..But at the same time...China DOUBLES thiers...Explain to me where the benifit to planet earth is in that secnario? You have to agree that we have FAR more and FAR stringent regulations in the US in reguards to burning coal than China does, because I doubt if they have aNY..All I'm saying is that it makes NO SENCE to outlaw coal burning inthe us where we have atleast SOME regulations as opposed to burning it full steam ahead in China and India and pakistain where they have NONE..It puts us at a disadvantage both economically and energy wise..
If you or the president or the ePA or the man in the moon can get those three nations, and Russia to ban the burning of coal {cants say fossil fuel because natural gas is a fossil fuel} then I'll be ALL in favor of saving the planet and stop burning coal..but till you do, then why should we play by the rules when everyone else doesnt even have a rulebook?
So Blade, your little "what if" with Julie brings with it another set of problems. If we ALL had 3 degrees there would be so much competition for jobs that people are going to be left out due to the shear number of qualified people for jobs available. So what you have is the opposite... a bunch of unemployed Smart people with degrees and no job.
Also, the comments on Social Programs, SSI and the like. If you don't understand what they are for, don't put them down. My parents were both disabled and depended on Social Security Disability and the extra programs just to eat and go to the doctor. It is not for lazy people that don't want to work.
and we have had a Republican Governor for the last 18 years and they haven't done @!$%# in all that time
wait til government forces the trucks to take food out of midwest to feed the northeast.
Over mine and lot of other cold dead bodies. Let BHO feed and keep them warm, as for me to hell with them.
I just thank God Sandy just missed me. Friends and family not so lucky. My sister is still without power and not freezing weather. Through your church or Red Cross any help is appreciated. Thank you.
To 3score&more..
Just a little lesson on the social security benifits..
There is a BIG difference in what I ACTUALLY said and what YOU think I said...Read my statement again..
I stated in my comments about Social programs..Not specifically SSI ,But If you take me as meaning I was talking about SSI that fine..BUT SSI is NOT what your parents are drawing..What you're parents are drawing from the Federal Government is SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY...BIG DIFFERENCE..
The difference is{just so you know I know}..Social Security Disability{What your parents are drawing} is for people that have worked before in their lives and have become unable to work because of a "disability"..A person that has never worked before CANT draw Disababled Social Security..BUT ..That doesnt mean that people that have never worked before CANT draw Social Security as i'm sure your aware of..They have to draw SSI..A totally different program than DSS..When SSI was implimented,There was a "Gap" of people it was intended to help "suppliment" the retirement of because they didnt have enough time to pay into social security before they retired so they "Suplimented" social security SSI..TODAY, everyone and his kids{literally} draw SSI..Because they have NEVER worked before and NEVER will..Now, I'm not saying that in some instances SSI is a good thing..Espically when you have a child or a person that is disabled {really is, not pretend}and actually cant work..That program is GREAT..BUT I have issues with people that are Alot more able than I to work, drawing SSI because they can..The program is ABUSED, bigtime..
I'll agree with what you said that Disabled Social Security is NOT for lazy people that wont work..Thats reserved for the SSI program..And if you are truthful, then I'll bet the farm that you can probaly name more than 1 person in your community that is drawing SSI and there is nothing wrong with them..
So I guess my answer to the question that you asked is yes I do understand what Social security Disability is for..I too had a parent that was in the SSD program and one that retired under SS..So I know first hand..
Cheers
Also to 3score&4
I just read your other post about having a Republican governer in Texas for 18 years and they havent done a thing about all the illegal Mexicans comming across the border..The short answe to that is..Because they cant..
Immigrations is a FEDERAL GOVERNMENT issue..The states have NO power to pass and/or enforce ANY laws pertaining to immigration OR illegal immigrants EXCEPT those mandated BY the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT..Airzona TRIED and The Obama administration took them to the Supreme Court and won..Stopped them from atleast trying to curb the influx of Illegal Immigrants..So if your That Pi$$ed off about it, I suggest you call/write your congressman and see if they can get the Obama administration to get you a little help down there..
Just so you know, I'm pi$$ed off about it too
I wonder how extreme the weather will get - our neighborhood is still running our AC's here in Tucson - it has never been this hot this late in the year.
Lets see how much help Obama will see gets delivered now that the elction is over and has no real use for the publicity.
gm Jack.
McDonalds has the Ronald McDonald houses for the families of sick or injured kids. KFC (Motto: "All we need is U.") decided to jump on the bandwagon with Colonel Sanders houses ....... for battered chickens.
Do not worry fema will be right there to help everyone out. Just look at the great job they did for sandy.
Yeah, I don't think you're gonna see another episode of Jersey Shore Man-Love...Barry-0 got his photo-op with Gov. Chris Krispy-Creme...You're on your own now....
Sorry, but I don't see the residents of Jersey, BreezyPoint, Staten Island and the rest that sit in gas lines and don't have power yet and homes destroyed doing High-fives.... Too bad very few get to see local TV coverage....A angry, distraught woman gave Bloomberg an earful that would make any seasoned Sailor blush....and he ran away behind his Security Detail....
Funny how all of you that live so far away don't know anything but what you see on TV...
Things have turned around relatively quickly and the reason the gas lines are so long is because the bridges and tunnels were closed due to flooding and debris so takers couldn't come into the area. It's gotten much better in a week.
Everyone that lives in the area knows how hard it is for transportation so most are patient. Those that aren't patient are expecting miracles.
Well aint that all just pink farts and giggles..I'm SO glad that you are one of the lucky ones that has been turned around relatively quickly..
Blade,
Thanks for your "BIG" heart towards the 100+ people who died, the millions of of people that lost everything they own and towards the largest storm in the history of NY & NJ. Real classy man.
Greatly appreciated.
Have a nice day...
You people busting on FEMA & RedCross & Utility Crews - must ONLY watch TV... trust me for every "response sucks" story there are 50 stories of heroism and kindness
Mike in Delray, apparently you don't pay much attention because Jersey Shore was cancelled two months ago. And FEMA is doing a great job around here in NY and NJ. Keep in mind, the mayor of NYC was asked in advanced by the President to send in help before the storm approached but Bloomberg turned it down. Thank God he can't run again. He bought a 3rd term, no one wants him around here anymore. Not only is FEMA doing a great job but so are the Red Cross, PSE&G and neighbors and friends.
By the way, other than criticism what have you contributed to help those in the wake of this storm???
BO,
You think Mitt Romney and Donald Trump are going to go in and help people?
They will if they can make a buck off it.
President Obama did not win last night, democracy won!
bigdogg464 I wonder what Obama would say to that....
In my little mind he's responding: "I won, last night, me. I campaigned to win and that is what I did, I won, me, Obama, not you, me..I set out to win this election 4 years ago and that is all that I spent my time doing, ensuring a win, for the win, I won, not you, Me, I am Obama, you are a loser, I won, me Obama. Me, it was about me, not you."
Considering we are a Republic Government I guess we all lost last night. Just sayin'
We just received a reprieve from another round of ReaganBushBush. Yes we did.
I don't understand why we are not hearing bravos for the FEMA Corps that graduated in August, 2012. The Corps will be sent out by order of the White House.
They are called Obama's Army. There are 261 soon to be 1100. They are between 18 & 24 and are trined EMTs and trained for large disasters. They are full time paid 24/7 FEMA Disaster employees. The cost to train them was hundreds of thousands of $$$$$. They have enough generators for a large town and food, water, clothing, medical supplies, etc. Where are they?
Check it out...go on line and enter FEMA Corps.
Where's Trump's donation? I heard he has 5 million dollars lying around
Maybe by 1 year down the road we will be hearing from you asking if things can get any worse than this and yes it can because you idiots voted Obama back in for another 4 years. So people suffer in silence because there is nothing you can do until 2016. Thanks alot for putting me in your situation because it should who voted for him suffer the consequences and we, the sensible ones, be able to live a normal life. Maybe by then you democrats will be begging for a republican to come and rescue you.
I doubt if barry will come this time for a photo op, Nor-Eaaster for Revenge
aw what's wrong Dave....ur guy didn't win.....u sound so bitter my man!!!
OMG Jersey Shore was cancelled....holy cow there might be a God after all...
what putrid trash could they possibly come up with to top that show...its gonna be as hard as getting Obama do his job and not just hid while padding his pockets for the next four years.
oops wrong post was for #3
roadless,
I live in NJ and never watched that program. When it first started, my daughter was watching and and as I walked by, I stopped to look out of curiosity and almost puked for two reasons.
I was appalled. My daughter couldn't make it through the first episode. And, that chick with the dog name (Snooky), OMG, I don't know how anybody on the face of the earth could even enjoy watching her non-the-less the actual program. So yes, there is a God ;-)
My apologies to anyone who does get off on this program.
I cant reply to the naysayers, Trump 350 boxes of food, water, etc this am and more before (his personal money), Romney donations already there (his personal money) ... So the guy that has Bill Clintons pic .. that lovely man(Bill) hasnt given a red dime nor his wife. I guess Bill only likes Foreign Countries and yes the donations have happened so keep drinking ObamaBeer cause he and Biden arent sending bumkus. Now sendthe Donald a thanks jerk off
No time for politics. Only 10 days after Sandy, people's lives are still open to the weather. At the very least, this puts the current recovery operation in jeopardy, and threatens to double down on the misery of the NJ/NY area.
One would think after everyone got their votes counted yesterday we would be able to move past bickering and finger-pointing. This storm will last a few days so yes, this will definitely hamper the recovery.
Hopefully, it won't leave those of us that have electricity without. It's been quite a ride.
Maybe, just maybe, the utilities will smarten up and bury the power lines underground so we don't need to go through this every time there is a storm.
Well Wilman, I've been SAYING that for years..In hurrican prone areas of the deep south that keep getting hammered over and over and over again,The electricity is one of the first thing to go and one of the last things restored..I know that someone someplace in charge surely would know that this is a viable option that would save people countless hours of surrering..----If we can think of it surely THEY can think of it.-----.But I can tell you the number one reason it never will be done..The power companies make TOO much money during a catastrophy like that..Either through inflated man hours that are government reinbursemed, or by raising the rates on US..Plus in some instances they get to "Upgrade" their systems for free..So..aint gonna happen
@wilman
I'm sure the power companies would be glad to bury the power lines as soon as this president comes up with more stimulus money for them to do it with.
Nevada Energy receive $156 Million in the last go around. Record profits for our power company in Nevada in the third quarter.
I've lived through one FEMA disaster (an EF-4 tornado). You have likely already received all the support you will get. Bundle up!
Just hoping for some common sense, but that seems like a waste of time...
wilman, you mean underground like in NYC...where everything underground was flooded and cannot be fixed until the flood waters are pumped out and salt is cleaned off? Yeah...you make me laugh. NYC was not prepared for something like this...underground is not the answer when Mother Nature wants to unleash her furry!!
Good Luck East Coast with the storms, but prepare yourself for the Insurance aftermath. We live in FL and had 2 hurricanes come thru in 04' we didn't have so much as a ruffled roof shingle. Nevertheless our homeowners Ins. has gone up 228% since those storms. the most recent increase was 71% in 1 yr. The Insurance company told me the large increase was because the storms that hit FL (back in 04'). cost so much money and even though we live way to far inland to be effected by the wind and storm surge damage we all have to pay more. (so the Insurance Companies can make up their big profits). So Folks remember the disaster drill you used to do in grade school, well now you need to be able to reach back and kiss your a$$ good bye.
Well Ill tell you if aid does not come, the red states, we welcome you and will help you recover if you dont find it there...we are dry and happy to have the east with us.
We are not given the allowance the blue states have for welfare unfortunatly we will have to put you to work for yourself instead, but you can do it.
Buried lines have their own problems. I have experienced it firsthand, twice. Problem is, when buried lines go out it can take days just to trace the location of the fault. (Sometimes there are multiple faults). After that, it can take a day to excavate, a day to fix, and another day to rebury the spliced line. Heaven forbid if there is bad weather during that time. It can take longer if the ground is wet. Power generators often have to be brought in to compensate until they get it fixed. I'll take above-ground power lines any day of the year. If people trimmed their trees more often there would be less problems.
Of course, with the new regulations that are headed our way, electricity and gas to heat our homes will now become more expensive, as will gasoline as the price per gallon rises. (If the American Jobs Act passes, gasoline will become a whole lot costlier). It is coming. Prepare to be bent over and buried again, middle class! The Democrat Party's goal of a two-class society just got closer to realization.
It isn't as simple as some folks think it is to bury power lines. Buried lines must be heavier because of the lack of heat dissipation. Plus, the cost would be enormous and it would be passed on to the customers. If the power companies would simply maintain the areas surrounding their lines by removing nearby trees they would have far fewer problems every time you have major wind storms or ice storms.
arrrgh ... yes some lines there are on top, many are exactly where you think they should be ... flood=water=line issues ... geeze
Are there no radio stations in New York and New Jersey? Are they too hip to own a battery-operated radio???
Ummmmm, I don't get it. Care to clarify?
Creek Dog,
Ditto. WTF is he/she saying? I will have to take off my hip outfit I use to work from home (since office was destroyed) and check the closet. I think it is buried in there with my wide-shouldered suits and last year's hot fashions.
Oh, I assume flannels are hip again or else I am screwed!
Diaa,
They could also send smoke signals, no?
good, i get to respond to doofus #1, You need to quit watching Brian rimmer Williams. Trump has already sent a huge truck this am and donations before ... from his money. The Romneys (their money) donations were already sent per the liberal CBS News ... Billy Clinton has sent nothing ... Barak and MO zip, and Biden never gives a dime.
But Ill concede, ill bet Rush Limpballs is as generous as George Looney, Eva Longoria, Barbara walters and teh hags at the View (ie NOTHING)
I am predicting Obama will take an early lead today.
Until the Republications get off work.... OOPS, I forgot, the Republicans are also unemployed.
Its the republican supporting you lazy democrats who are sitting around waiting for your government check. You should be thanking God that at least there are some people out there who are willing to do a hard day's work to support you lazy bums.
Hoping for the most severe storm in the nations history that cuts off all fuel supplies to this region of the country.
another sore loser I see.....LOL!!!
BO, you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. But just keep up your ignorant banter. Are you in NY or NJ? Do you have any idea how much help these people have received? No, But just keep carping, you ignorant dolt.
No one cares about them anymore. The election is over.
Sorry for your luck, but your on your own. Better find a warm safe place. Oh, wait, you lost that a couple weeks ago.
There always a chance Obama feels compelled to make this look "Optimal" to start off his second term and stop by and hug Christie again...
Not sure what it did for you guys with Sandy, but heh, he looked, I mean acted presidential...
What's the point of your comment? Election's over. We care about our tri-state area and will help each other if you are all too busy on your soapboxes using Sandy to criticize our president. I have much less faith in my fellow Americans after going through this storm. However, I do thank the few of you who have wished us well here in NJ and nearby.
"Uncle obama" will take care of them! If they could vote for obama they can weather the storm. I would pray for them but that is considered illegal and un-American.
Well you could always do the morning prayers towards the east like the mooslims and their american "president".
Terry you are a racist scumbag, Go crawl back into your trailer and stop posting comments.
Hey, I guessed that Terry lived in a trailer too, and is broke so acts like she won't donate because she doesn't want to. The reality is it's hard to donate food stamps.
sj555, calling a fellow viner a "racist scumbag" is a COH violation. Well, it would be if you were a republican. I know the rules are different for lefties, but if you keep taking the bait, it's going to catch up with you sooner or later.
Nah he owns an oil company and getting ready to freeze some New England asses in the dark
What's the matter sj555, you dont like muslims? That sounds very racist to me !
TerryFromWeatherfordTX, don't make racist remarks please. You are suspended for a day for violating rule # 5 of the Code of Honor.
Not a great response from sj555 and TFNJ.
You are both suspended for a day for violating rule # 1 of the Code of Honor.
There was a hurricane on the east coast? Ive decided to stay uninformed like the rest of you Kool-aid drinkers. Good luck.
i love you comment. its rude, but it serves it purpose
It's rude and irrelevant. Please reserve your bitter political rants for the election articles. We in the northeast want to rely on these articles to understand what's next for us.
If you are relying on message boards to understand what's next then I fear you are in a lot of trouble. How long have they been saying that one day the big one would hit the East Coast? As long as I have been here and my parents have been here, which is over a quarter of a century. You should have studied up on "what's next" long before it hit.
OK, so here's the scoop on what's next for you. You, and the rest of America are about to get bent into all the positions of the Kama Sutra by Uncle Sam. Electricity and gas to heat your homes will become more expensive, and the price of gasoline is set to rise to over $6/gallon if the Republicans cannot successfully block passage of the American Jobs Act. To put it succinctly, America (particularly on the West Coast and the North East of the country) voted for the burial of the middle class.
So, you are about to get buried. More will lose their homes. More will not be able to afford to keep their homes warm, if they have homes left after the storms. More people will lose their jobs as companies realize that their only choices are either to keep employees or to drop some of them so they can afford the new taxes they will be hit with in a couple years. If you don't have medical insurance and cannot get on the new insurance program sponsored by the government, you can expect an additional tax penalty of $92 per person, per family, per month, for each month you don't have medical insurance that meets the new, minimum government standard for medical insurance. If you cannot afford insurance, that is irrelevant. Only certain corporations are allowed to receive temporary waivers for this new insurance mandate.
So, again to repeat, you are about to get buried. Grab your ankles and prepare to receive your new gifts.
I sincerely hope that you people up there get all the help you need to get back on your feet but I fear it will not be enough in time. I'd help but the economy, and now my health, prevents me from doing that.
No sj555, you are rude and irrelevant !
And, again, I'm sure all the opinionated idiots will be on here chastising the people in the east for not being prepared for this upcoming storm. Well, I can tell you, that a lot of the areas where stores, etc., where you buy food and generators, are still closed because they have no power, no one could get in to prepare and they are still suffering from the effects of Sandy. I have family there and 3 families...plus whatever friends they can fit...have been staying in one house that has power. Please stop criticizing and start helping in whatever way you can. Even if it's only to encourage them to keep their heads up and their spirits strong in the face of what has happened and what is yet to come.
They got their photo-op with obama .. what more could they possibly need? The chose unions over volunteers, higher taxes over food and fuel. Sounds to me like they should be elated. Now that the election is over they will be forgotten just as quickly as you forgot about Libya.
And they were all out of power and closed prior to the weather event?
Stupid libs always wait for someone else to take care of them, and when it doesn't happen they will always blame someone else.
MORONS! The only thing they want to be encouraged to do is put their hands out and whine for mo' free stuffs.
NavyVet and Terry.....no, they got food before the hurricane, couldn't get a generator cause there were 200 name waiting lists for them at Lowes and Home Depot...these 2 stores don't stock that many and couldn't get them shipped in time....so who's to blame for that one....and then the electric went out....damn hard to cook without electric or gas....anymore suggestions....oh, and one part of the highway, is now part of the Atlantic Ocean, cause it was wiped out. And, then there was no gas for people that had generators to run them, after a week...you are not allowed to store an excess of gas in your home. Don't talk about your neighbors until you walk a mile in their mocassins, guys....cause you only make yourselves look stupid. And, my family even had 2 tanks of propane for the grill....cooking that way several times a day uses it up very quickly. Oh, get them refilled....those places still have no power so can't get that either.
maija, you cant explain the world to people who only see the inside of their colons.good luck and take care.
Maija-couldn't have said it better.
Thanks from a native New Yorker (Brooklyn) on Long Island now, which, as you know, is decimated just like so many other areas.
I think what's wrong with Terry is Her (Terry is a girls name correct?! ;-) eye holes in Her white pointy cap are crooked and she can't see straight so when she types, it comes out all wrong.
Battle,
Good one man LMAO...
BO are you really an American? Are you and the people supporting your view point going to stand before your maker someday and see this in the book of your life? Oh your not an American or a Christian . That make you a What? To be trivial about the suffering of Innocents and there are those? How small is your spirit?
they didnt have power 8 days before the storm?
who the heck needs a generator when they left the storm area when requested to do so....
only those who gave/donated to other natural disater victims should be helped, no others.
navyvet - first off, thanks for your service to our country, greatly appreciated. However, please read the news updates before assuming what you heard is true. We did not turn away nonunion workers, it was a false story out of Alabama.
sj555, what are you thanking him for? For spouting nonsense? Being a vet doesn't excluse you from being idiotic.
Navyvet, No where does it say anyone is forgotten. This is just a storm, but it comes at a bad time. No one is in crisis over it.
I'm a vet too, but if I have to call you a fool, I will. LOL
I really feel for you. I really do. Unfortunately, you voted for this above condition you mentioned. (Lib laws tend to put a lot of restrictions on people to make them more dependent upon government for protection and sustenance/storm preparation).
And, if the American Jobs Act ends up getting passed, you will be paying more than $6/gallon for gasoline. If Obama's Energy guy, Steven Chu, gets his way with a Democrat-controlled Senate and Democrat White House, you will pay $10/gallon for the gasoline you use to power those generators. I truly feel sorry for you and for what is about to befall you. I truly do.
Thats why it's called PRE-pare not RE-pare Maijia
Damn that global warming! Well Uncle obama will put a stop to it. Right after he gets back from vacation.
I'm sure Prez Bam Bam will take care of everything! Thanks for voting for more debt! I don't think we will be able to afford to help the East coast. With the tax increases we won't have anything left to help. Good luck!
I hope they are up to their ears in snow. Stupid pukes that think the government will take care of them.
You are an idiot...a lot of people are not looking for government help...they are just looking for their power to be restored so they can resume some type of normal existence. Or even just to see if they have anything left to try and make a life. Like I said, my family is doing what they can to help each other and whatever friends they can help. They were fortunate to only lose power, which some of them still have not gotten restored. Don't generalize.
Tracy, I am sorry we share a name, I have lived through midwest disasters and helped clean up gulf coast ones, even live there part of the time. WTF as you on about, everyone needs help when mother nature kicks their arse up between their shoulder blades.
you can give a man a fish to eat for a meal, or you can teach him to fish for himself...
fishing will be illegal just like helping yourself became illegal via insurance/federal promises.
Maybe they can get their rich liberal buddies to bail them out. They sure like doing fund raisers but when it comes to opening their own wallets you can't find one of them anywhere.
Maybe we should have a rich celebrity tax.
Maybe government workers should have to get Obama Care.
Great idea about the rich celebrity tax.
I think 95% annually on gross worth should do it.
95% works for me!! The Celebrity tax is a great idea!!
Obamacare is just a new name for HIPPA. It already exists, just not titled for a legacy.
when have you opened up your wallet to help anyone Tracy? Or you just want others to do the work? you disgust me.
Terry, you do realize that there are multiple utility trucks here from Texas helping to restore power, right? I think your taxes are paying for that. hahahaha
I don't know about Tracy but I have helped before. I have helped to raise funds and have relayed said funds to the Red Cross. I became a Democrat casualty to the economy recently and now have left the middle class to move into the poverty class. I lost my home. I lost my job. I cannot get unemployment because of my health. I can no longer help anyone, much less myself.
I am now bracing myself for worse yet to come as gasoline surpasses the $6/gallon mark (if the American Jobs Act now passes), the cost of utilities goes up (Obama's new EPA regulations he is about to unveil to the general public now will help that come to fruition), and the economy falters yet again when we hit the fiscal cliff in a time of fiscal irresponsibility, and next year's trillion dollar budget deficit and credit rating downgrade.
If you're in such bad shape, stay off the Internet, you can't afford it. No one wants to hear you whine anyway
So much for liberal compassion.
Ending up off the internet could well be in the cards but not yet (and there is the library if things get that bad). There is no whining here. I'm just informing people of what has happened and what they can expect in future. I think that the Democrats want certain people to be off the internet. That way their voices can be silenced so the sheeple will remain content with the status quo.
Things could get really interesting in the next few years. On the other hand, it would appear that Obama has decided at the last minute to open discussions with Romney for ideas on how to handle the economy! Oh! That is just too rich! More than half of Americans voted for the Clueless-in-Chief and now he is going to ask Romney (the one who Obama told America is clueless and whose ideas won't work!) for ideas?
If he is going to use Romney's ideas then why did not Americans vote for Romney in the first place? The underlying reality is that if Obama uses Romney's ideas and actually fixes the economy, he could get all the credit. If he refuses to use the ideas once he hears them in more detail, well, as I said, things are about to get interesting, particularly as Great Recession 2.0 knocks at the door.
This is all the thought I am going to give to this. If they are going to decrease the population then they should just damn do it.
This is all the thought I am going to give to this. If they are going to decrease the population then they should just damn do it.
you 1st.
I think this is a great idea and well needed.
This country needs an opt-out facility for those who cannot hang on in the USA any longer..for those who would rather it be over quickly than starve to death in the next four years and live day in and day out on the streets getting raped, beaten and humiliated....for those who see no hope or change.....
if you mandate life/insurnce, why not give the option for the latter
At least its a option
I'm with Battle.
We can start with tracy and end with the last tracy.
Wow more of that liberal "compassion" and "understanding" I keep hearing about here on the vine.
I wouldn't worry. Obama will do just as great a job on this storm as he did Sandy.
What did Obama do for them with Sandy. Absolutely nothing.....it was an opportunity for a photo op before the elections. Do you really think he cares two hoots about you people out there suffering. I am sure not. I am sure he is getting his 3 meals per day and sleeping in a very comfortable bed and living in a warm house. Tell me, are you able to do that? So the photo op was not for you people, it was to get him re-lected. So take that and live with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am sorry that you people got taken in by that because I realize things are not easy for you but you were fooled that he was there to help you. Sorry Christie allowed him to come and take advantage of your terrible situation.
Leave the politics out, just pray for these folks and send whatever money you can afford to help our east coast brothers and sisters.
Send more money?
B.S,! I am keeping what money I can before the gubmint comes and redistributes it all to the lazy welfare leaches that infest this soon to be third world country.
You mean the people who cal me a fool for having faith and God instead of obama? The people who would not allow help to come in unless it was union labor, the people that think burning the flag is patriotic, the people who when disaster struck my state just laughed and said they hope it is wiped off the map? Those people? They don't don't sound like my brothers or sisters to me. Obama is his brother's keeper (except his real brother lives in poverty) so let him take care of them with his obama bucks.
Take a look at the stock market. I am predicting a 500 point loss today.
I am dumping my investments while I still have something.
These people do not want me to pray for them. it would mean there is a God and I am imposing my beliefs on them.
No, not sending my money. Ask them for some of those Obama bucks they obviously think he will keep rolling in.
Money??? What money. I know the elections are over, but we still have poor unemployment and low income, plus higher prices on everything. We are tapped out and it looks like another 4 years of gridlock.
I guess these same guys who told us to hate the evil rich people will now be holding out there hands begging for forgiveness (of course only long enough to get the money or the next election)
I will NOT send any money! You will kill me to save you...........figures
Something tells me Terry has no money. If she sent money it would be a penny. No point.
I agree with you Patriot1945. That's what I did--it was easy to send a check to Salvation Army. Well, not completely easy--I have a yuchy cold that has settled into my lungs, but very very easy compared to what those folks over on the east coast have had to do. The rest of you--WWJD???
That is a good idea, actually. Big Bird, unfortunately, is a member of the 1%. I doubt you'll get the help.
So very well said. On this very cold day & night in the Northeast I can't take my thoughts away from those just to the south of me. Here in Maine we got off easy when Sandy hit , and it looks like once again the people of NJ & NY are going to receive the brunt of the storm with this poorly timed nor'easter. I hope & pray EVERYONE is in a safe, warm place down there. Enough is enough! They need a major break. Pray for some calm, warm weather when this one is over, as well as an early spring so recovery can be swift. I so wish I could be there right now to do whatever I could to help. Everyone, please put yourself in the place of someone who has lost so much, in some cases EVERYTHING, and do what you can.
These people using political hatred and negativity toward fellow human beings in dire straights, don't even sound human to me.....just sad.
Which one? The one of the more commonly read texts of the Gospels or the one of Luke 19 and Revelation 19? :-)
That is a smart move--at least for now. America is about to hit Great Recession 2.0 within a year if all the market indicators keep showing what they are.
There still may be investment opportunities in so-called "Green Energy" that might get a pickup in Obama's second term as he taxes the hell out of carbon-based fuels and has his EPA shut down power plants and more oil refineries.
Just don't pick the companies Obama invested the Fed in. They have been going bankrupt one after another and/or are considering following suit.
dcpyle--one of the more commonly read Gospels, since Luke 19 and Revelation 19 refer to the Second Coming--and we are still in the Age of Grace. Try the Beatitudes, and 1 Cor 13.
Guess you missed the smiley at the end of my comment.
And, "Age of Grace" is a dispensationist contrivance.
Hahahaha--dcpyle, indeed I did miss the smileyface! My bad!
'dispensationist contrivance'--interesting term!
Guess your lips will soon match your vote, Maybe Christie will "cuddle" with ya now that he's screwed you and will keep you warm. Thanks to the "dinky" states up north and the fagleft side we get to see arrogance repeat itself. The financial meltdown of our country lies right where the vote put Obama back in office. Enjoy!
crybaby. your candidate lost, get over it.
Alan is only telling the truth. All of you who put this country wrecking idiot back in office will see in due time what you have done.
And if you could accurately tell me what the other guy would've done for our country in 4 yrs,
then please give me six numbers from 1 to 50 thank you.........
If the Senate had received some Republicans to help with the Democrat problem in the Senate and after one more year of Obama budget deficit:
1. Removal of Capital Gains tax (more money to invest in American jobs)
2. Prevention of massively rising prices of gasoline
3. No additional taxation of energy (lower utility bills than what are coming)
4. Rewriting of Tax Code that allows businesses to bring money earned in foreign countries back to the USA without double-taxation and makes America more business-friendly than other countries to bring jobs back to America.
5. More drilling to create energy independence.
6. Keeping all sections of the Energy Act of 2005 in place to keep worker safety and environmental safety, and not allow people in oversight positions who have conflicts of interest.
7. Modification of Tax Code to allow for straight taxation of all classes for a fairer taxation.
8. Repeal of Obamacare Insurance Mandate and other elements that will harm the economy.
9. After the 2009 year of Obama budget he would have faced (more than $1 trillion), fiscal responsibility and work to balance the budget.
10. After working to balance the budget and picking up the economy, work to pay down the existing nation debt with increases revenues.
I can go on but don't really see the point. Half of America chose Obama to run the national debt up from $16.6 trillion to between $20 trillion and $25 trillion by the end of his second term, hitting the debt ceiling before next year, and running off the fiscal cliff in 2013. What more could be said to people who do things like that? They would never listen or believe.
I don't know if you realise. There is a world outside of the USA. President Obama was not responsible for the economy crash. Wall street was!!!That crash affected most people in the world, me included!! Think yourself lucky that you have a President who is trying to put things into perspective. and try to sort things for every day people, not one that just wants corporate America to get things started so big business can start to make big bucks for their share holders. My superannuation funds went down the tube because of wall st . It is a global crissies and I for one am glad President Obama is the one (for the next four years) is going to try to rectify. Things will be hard for all of us, but did Romney ever say what he would do?? I think not
Actually Sheeba The Democrats were responsible with a piece of legislation called the community reinvestment act which FORCED banks to loan money to people who were not worthy of getting a loan. Put in under Carter, Clinton gave it teeth and used ACORN to protest at banks and executives homes as well as the power of the federal government to force banks to lend money to bad credit risks. At first everything went Ok because when someone defaulted the house could be sold for more than it was bought for. This led to bundling the bad loans and selling derivatives. When home prices started falling as too many bad risk loans were being made (and Frank Raines had less than 1% capital to loan ratio in Fannie mae) the whole ball of wax fell apart. Of course the media(who protects the liberals to a fault) blamed Bush (even though he and McCain had tried to reign in fannie and freddie) and the idiot sheep here in Amerika beleived them. Obama will continue the same rhetoric and partisan thug tactics which work in Chicago. If we are not at war within this country in 4 years I will be surprised.
Sheeba,
Stealth1 has it right. Bush warned his Democrat-controlled Congress in his second term that bad things were about to happen to the economy if they didn't act fast. They essentially told Bush to shut up, that he didn't know what he was talking about, and that the economy would be fine. They did nothing.
The very next year, the housing meltdown began. That Congress then scrambled at the last minute--too late!--to try to recover some semblance of an appearance of doing something. At the same time, however, government spending under that Democrat-controlled Congress hit the $1 trillion mark when the previous fiscal year ended with a $168.2 billion budget deficit before the Democrats got control of Congress.
Our Democrat-controlled government have been doing more than $1 trillion budget deficits every single year thereafter. Next year will be another more than $1 trillion budget deficit, followed by between $500 billion and $700 billion each and every remaining year of Obama's second term. Prepare yourself for another credit rating downgrade if this level of spending keeps up.
dcpyle,
OK, give me 6 numbers now. If they hit, I'll believe every word you wrote.
With all your proof positive attitude, you seem to have conveniently skipped that part.
I don't gamble and I don't encourage gambling. It's blood money.
Those people are so screwed. Our fearless leader got himself re-elected, so he has no reason to worry about the East coast.
FEMA should be hauling generators and electric heaters from anywhere they can get them. If this Nor-Easter hits like they say people are going to die from the cold, if nothing else.
Please don't take this wrong, I have total compassion for the people in the Northeast, some are my friends and family BUT all we are hearing is that Lineman need to move faster!! That there are still people without power!! What about the 7 MILLION they have reconnected??? No one is giving them credit for connecting over 7 million of the homes, and the fact that they are working 16 hours a day, many sleeping in their trucks or in trailers with no heat. They don't have the option of going elsewhere!! So please get the word out that Linemen are working as fast and as safe as they possibly can, and that attacking them, throwing eggs at them, is not going to make them work any faster!! They have already had their constructional rights taken away (they were not able to vote yesterday) so please give them credit for doing the job they are doing!!
AND, it is a dangerous f*&^in job even under normal conditions. I am praying for them, including your friends and family.
I was one of the few (10% of LIPA customers) who did not lose power, probably because the lines are buried here. We invited people to come stay with us, including the kids (nephews), older folks, relatives of relatives, etc., and their power was back within 2-5 days despite their neighborhoods being ravaged.
Nice work-thank you!
CrisD....you are so right....God bless these hard working lineman, who have managed to restore power to so many in the devastated areas....I'm sure it was and is not an easy task for them....their dedication to their fellowman is to be applauded. And, anyone who thinks it's easy for anyone who has been living through this and working around the clock to make things better is really delusional. My prayers and best wishes go out to all those who have given their time, energy and dedication to making things easier and better for those living in the storm hit areas.
Crisd, I live in NJ, had no power for a week, and had my power restored, or the lines fixed I should say, from an out of state power company. I would like to know where you hear that they are not getting any credit or thank you. If you follow the problem from the start, online or on TV, you would hear how appreciative everyone is to those that came in to help.
Yes some people still don't have power, and are cold and frustrated as can be expected. But don't take that frustration to mean that everyone is mad at people trying to help.
Maybe they should quit turing around non union help.
All of you RepubTurds who are so upset about Obama being re_elected, had better start compromising with the Democrats. RepubTurds went down in Flames. RepubTurds have allready had there Nor Easter. The old white haired RepubTurds are not in charge os the United States any longer, due to what they did to the United States when the Bush Regime had control. If you RepTurds do not get better at serving the Public, it will be Many years before you get back in. I am a Registered Republican, not a RepubTurd, and I voted straight Democratic Ticket. If my Party does not change, they will become extinct. Vote for Hillary in twenty sixteen.
You do know that nothing changed right..
Same awful president
Same awful congress
Same awful Senate
Same struggling middle class
Same 4 more years of gridlock.
this story is about a snow storm headed for an already badly hit area.and all you whiny political fags spewing your hatred and mixing it in with the people fighting for food and warmth? f..k you!
You are the problem with this nation.

Two words for your post, Sieg Heil!
Battle,
Turn the other cheek man. I've been banned by Tyler a few times (as recently as yesterday) for letting them get to me also. No matter (almost) what they say to me, I just tell them to have a nice day. If they see they're getting to you, it makes them feel better but turn the tables, and they go away when they realize you're no fun anymore.
Hang tough dude!...
your right creek.anger always seems to be my 1st reaction.so many mentally mutilated people out there its hard not to.some are beyond reason or compassion.i only have 4 cheeks i can turn, and ive read more than 4 today.so with that i will say peace and good luck to you and all in this east coast mess.and to the rest of the heartless, politically delusional, and uncaring tools on here F you and have a nice day;)
Roger that Creek Dog Never let the idiots get to your psyche!
Sometimes ya gotta call a "Richard Cranium" by their nickname and go all in.
