Subscribe to RSSNEW YORK -- A 5-year-old Bronx boy died and his 7-year-old sister was hospitalized Wednesday after spending the evening with their father, who was apparently distraught and told police he put poison on their pizza.
Law enforcement sources tell NBC 4 New York that the children's parents had recently split up. The kids were spending the day with him, and just after midnight, he called their mother and told her he was going to kill himself, sources say.
As she headed to the Morris Heights apartment where he was staying with his step-mother, the stepmother called police and said the father had locked himself in the bathroom with his son.
When police and the mother arrived, the boy was unresponsive and the girl was vomiting. The boy was later pronounced dead at Saint Barnabus Hospital. The girl's condition was not immediately known.

Police are questioning the father. Sources say he told police he poisoned the children and himself with something on their pizza.
In a separate child death case, police were called to the Boulevard Houses on Linden Boulevard in East New York Tuesday night at about 11:30 p.m. for a report of an unconscious girl. When they arrived, they found the child, Halii McCord, unresponsive. She was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Sources say the boyfriend of the girl's mother is being questioned.

I have near perfect grammar and spelling, without a spellchecker even. There's no way, though, that any of these websites would hire me.
The poorer writers on NBC seem to be technology dependent, constantly accepting spellchecker corrections that give a homonym - even though it's the wrong word.
And, as you all pointed out the headline is atrocious.

Why people do these things is easy to figure out - if you can't comprehend it; then you have probably never really suffered in life. I got lucky with my first divorce, I had a good job and the ex had an even better job, so financially I didn't get ruined. Where I've suffered is in dealing with a work injury and how Labor and Industries (Workers Compensation) treated me - I wanted to harm them in the same way they harmed me...thankfully I was smart enough to counter their lies and finally land a Lawyer, but had I not, it could have gotten very ugly.
Is there a solution to these crimes - nope, not unless you can find good jobs for everyone so they don't end up in ruins.
As for posters who go on rants about Headlines - they are a totally different issue, always looking for something to attack...I doubt there is hope for those people either.

Yes, this father was just plain selfish and spiteful. He called his ex-wife to say he was going to kill himself. But you notice he's the only one who isn't dead or in the hospital! People like him need to be shot right after their court trial - no sitting on death row for 20 years making appeals. We know he did it because he admitted to it and he was locked in the bathroom with his two kids. They went in alive and healthy and came out dead and vomiting.
What is it with these nut cases that have to take their children with them. Make him finish the pizza and walk away.
I totally agree. If he had enough energy to call the mother after midnight and threaten to kill himself, it kind-of sounds like he didn't personally ingest much pizza. There is no description of the father vomiting.

They "feel" as if they're 'saving' their children from a life as miserable as theirs. They can't accept the possibility that maybe their kids will grow up more stable, rationale and able to cope with things than they are. Dad hated life, was most likely a total loser so - in his mind - his kids would grow up to be the same so why not put them out of their misery before they become miserable. The thing to do with these people is remove their brains or scientific study. It's okay if they're alive when you do it. They're not using it anyway.
Oh, they may tell themselves those stories, but deep down inside they know they're doing it to punish mom, to hurt her as much as they think they have been hurt. Now for the story: This is really sad and the father needs help. Some of the logical posters on here I agree with. He needs to suffer too. I don't think he was ever intended on killing himself. I think he was intended on killing his children period and the phone call was just a stunt to cover up for what he was really about to do. He knew fully well he was going to kill the children, and not himself. He needs to server life in prison. Well, biblically speaking he should get the death penalty. In life, times can be tough, but no matter what, you must prevail and conquer those inner demons that constantly input data in your brain telling you to do harm to others and yourself. I have been there to that dark place when I was young and I realized that I am loved and that important love comes from MY ALMIGHTY FATHER, GOD and that is how I left that dark place and started to live again. Wow, I raised my kids alone after my ex left with a 20 year old. Scared, sad, depressed maybe, worked myself silly. I was angry sometimes, etc. You know, like normal people experience. Were republicans talking about lowering wages just for women? Were they talking about making it so women can't work? Were they intentionally making it so people can kill women if it inconveniences their lifestyle? How about the fact that a large number of those relying hard on Social Security are women who could not make the differential in pay earlier. How about a lot to the programs that were meant to effect "entitlements" which translates to single mothers with children and with children being the biggest part to the poverty demographic. How about the fact that a lot of birth control is for much more than birth control but for the complex problems that women face physically. Or, look at it from another perspective. Our government is dedicated, cross demonstrations and parties. to the uplifting of women worldwide because it plants the seeds for moderation in other countries and a stabilization and democratic process to start. That is just a teaser.And, I don't expect the fringe to accept this, but , you get tired of the baiting.

I can't in any way look at my two kids and imagine doing something like this. I've been with them since they took their first breath, learned to walk, dressed as a pumpkin for Halloween, cried on their first day of school, put teeth under their pillow and made Father's Day cards for me that said they loved me even if I am a grouch sometimes. Why, oh why can't these people just walk away and keep walking instead of taking a life that's barely begun?
