Man behind 'Innocence of Muslims' film sentenced to one year in prison for violating probation

This Sept. 27 courtroom drawing shows Nakoula Basseley Nakoula in court on probation violation charges in Los Angeles.

A California man who was behind an anti-Muslim film that spurred violent protests in the Middle East was sentenced on Wednesday to one year in prison for violating the terms of his probation stemming from a 2010 bank fraud conviction.

Mark Basseley Youssef, a 55-year-old Egyptian-American, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Christina Snyder after he admitted four of eight alleged violations including obtaining a fraudulent California driver's license.

Youssef served most of a 21-month prison term in the bank fraud case. Federal authorities wanted Youssef to serve two years for the violations.

A judge denied bail for the alleged producer of an anti-Muslim film that sparked Mideast outrage. He was arrested for violating probation from a bank fraud conviction. KNBC's Beverly White reports.

None of the violations had to do with the content of "Innocence of Muslims," a 13-minute film that mocks the prophet Mohammad as a religious fraud, pedophile and a womanizer. The movie sparked a torrent of violence in Libya and other parts of the Middle East, and dozens died.

Federal authorities have said they believe Youssef is responsible for the film, but they haven’t said whether he was the person who posted it online. He also wasn’t supposed to use any name other than his true legal name without the prior written approval of his probation officer.

At least three names have been associated with Youssef since the film trailer surfaced — Sam Bacile, Nakoula Basseley Nakoula and Youssef. Bacile was the name attached to the YouTube account that posted the video.

he made the video, that's freedom of speech, next there was no riot in protest to the video so why is this media outlet still saying so that was the president covering his rear . which has been proved. but you can't touch the teflon pres. . as for the guys other charges well he get what he gets for being a criminal , death is a little bit much ,so when you do something as get a traffic ticket you should have your hands chopped off at the rate most of you are concerned. but back to free speech everyone is entitled to their opinion . so enjoy being an american , unless we are persecuted for speaking.

Lat me set you Retards Straight. This country lost 6 Ambassadors from 1973-1988. 4 of them under Republicans, 2 for Nixon, 1 for Ford, 1 for Reagan and 2 under Clinton (D). We did't hollar "let's go run Nixon over the Gallows." "Reagan done it, get a rope!" Nope, we honered these Ambassadors.

All this complaining about what happened and not one of you Clowns remembers the Ambassadors name or even his last name. I'm sure Ambassador Stevens would be so pround of you Jokers that call yourselfs Americans.

You do realize, (no you don't, so don't lie) that the Senate Security that is responsablie for the security of the Ambassadors is headed up by Republicans. They were responsable for the added security Security of Ambassadors Stevens, The 4 Body Guards were not military, They are/were formal Military, Hired by a civilian firm that supplies contracted security services. The Senate has to approve the added security when requested. They failed to do so. Or was it requested? Hard to tell since the Republicans broke Protocol by not adding Democrats to the investigation Commettee. The investigation is still on going. Neither Obama or Clinten needed to say what they did about accepting Responsability, but they did. Had these people been Republicans it would have been like Wheel of Fortune for them, Give it a Spin and hope it doesn't hit them. The true fault to me lies with the Senate Security. Why didn't they send the extra security. If it was a problem why wasn't the President notified of the problem. He can over ride issues they're having or recall the Ambassador in mid trip. Things of this nature operate under a Chain of Command. The Senate Security didn't use the Chain of Command, another Break in Protocol. However it's like I said it's still under investgation. You do realize to deny any part of the truth is to lie. I forgot you Clowns just point and don't check anything.

This guy did not cause the riots in the middle east by making this movie, it was about 9 11, if this man had made a movie of putting down christians, nothing would ever been said.

Christians are taught to turn the other cheek, Muslims are not. This guy is so innocent over making this movie? Look at all the property damage done to all the Embassey Buildings! The Actoresses and Actors are fearing for their lives for doing a job that they thought was just another movie! The only reason the Clown that made the movie is in jail for is his own Security! It took them a month and half to find a parole violation? Legally the police are responsible for his life while on parole also!

ROFL Libya was a terrorist attack that had nothing to do w/ this guys video. How do we know? We already had a congressional hearing on this. Watch the thing on cspan, do a search for "Congress Holds First Hearing on U.S. Consulate Attack in Libya".

This isn't about any movie he made. It's about him not following his parole orders. He committed bank fraud, and you know anyone who does that goes to jail, unless you are the banker. He wasn't the banker, he was a stupid freaking idiot, a criminal.

And that Ambassador was a volunteer, same as the three mercenaries. All of the volunteered to be there, and all of them paid the price. Yes I feel sorry for their families, but they were chasing the almighty dollar, that's all it is. And the GOP/tea baggers will complain if Obama walked on water. Yep, they would bitch he couldn't swim. Seems like the whole bunch of them are card carrying members of the KKK.

To many people fail to realize he wasn't convicted in any manner which impacts anyone's freedom of speech. He violated many aspects of his probation. Anyone that wants to complain about that must be complaining about our legal system and not any violation of the constitution. You must feel that people on probation should just be let off easy for violating those probation requirements.

Stir up Muslims, and the government will find a way to get you. Anyone thinking there is no linkage here believes in fairy tales.

It's nice to know we live in a land with so many regulations, laws, etc.. that we are all law breakers and only stay out of jail at the discretion of law enforcement. This way if anyone says something the government doesn't like they can find ways to take their freedom. It's also nice to have a president and a press that can keep blaming one event on an unrelated other event. This way we don't have to be bothered with facts and can concentrate on producing for the State. It's nice to have an education system that makes this all possible. It's also nice to be in a 1400 year old world war with a political/quasi religious system that we can pretend is "good". This way we can flourish in the land of Oz/America.

announcing this a day after the election and one day before congressional hearings resume on the Benghagi attack sure looks like a lame attempt to but the whole Benghazi thing to bed.The heavily armed attack staged on 9/11 was obviously planned as anybody with any sense knows, probably retaliation for Bin Laden. That would not fit in the win colunm on the eve of an election. So congressmen will be finding if this was planned or just unhappy coincidence. what a load. Blame the video... right ....I have got great respect for Hillary though, the only one with the stones to stand up and take responsibility.

The real question is why this takes a full trial when the usual way to handle parole violations is through a parole commission.
This smells too much like political scapegoating.
