Paula Broadwell with Gen. David Petraeus.
The biographer for resigning CIA Director David Petraeus is under FBI investigation for improperly trying to access his email and possibly gaining access to classified information, law enforcement officials told NBC News on Friday.
Paula Broadwell is the author of Petraeus' biography, "All In." She had extensive access to Petraeus in Afghanistan and has given numerous television interviews speaking about him.
Petraeus resigned Friday, citing an extramarital affair. The woman involved was not identified.
Law enforcement and multiple U.S. officials told NBC News that emails between Petraeus and Broadwell were indicative of an extra-marital affair.
Earlier, law enforcement officials said they do not believe the FBI investigation will result in any criminal charges. They also stressed that Petraeus is not under investigation.
The CIA declined all comment on the case. Broadwell could not be reached for comment.
Broadwell's Twitter account describes her as a national security analyst and Army veteran. A biography on her website, which went offline Friday evening, said she is married to a radiologist and has two children, both boys. The family lives in Charlotte, N.C. The biography said she is a West Point graduate and a research associate at Harvard University's Center for Public Leadership and a doctoral candidate in the Department of War Studies at King's College London.
Richard Engel is NBC News' chief foreign correspondent. NBC News' Robert Windrem, Kristen Welker, Michael Isikoff and Pete Williams contributed to this report.
NBC's Richard Engel and the Washington Post's David Ignatius discuss the breaking news of CIA director David Petraeus' resignation.
Author Paula Broadwell joins Morning Joe to discuss her new book on Gen. David Petraeus, bringing attention to troops who suffer from PTSD, and the relationship between Gen. Petraeus and Gen. Stanley McChrystal.

It can happen to anyone. He is doing the right thing in retiring. He needs to put his life back together without the public interjecting their foul crap into it. General, you did a great job, I wish you the best in getting your family problems solved. No, I will not condemn this man for something that could possibly happen to me. He did wrong, he'll pay for it by losing his job but to say anymore bad about him is wrong. He is a GREAT American military leader. I refuse to condemn one who has served his country so well.
You have no idea how good of job he has done .... he showed a lack of honor in this ... and poor judgement ... for all we know this is the tip of the ice-burg ... like with most of these people ... they are all hypocrites ...
He dishonored and disrespected his wife, his job, and his uniform. Nothing great about that.
this is America were everything goes. you want to married a person of your same sex go ahead nothing wrong with that. you want an abortion go ahead you only killing an innocent child but it ok we call it a fetus not a child. so having an affair shouldn't be that bad as a matter of fact is good to refresh your skin once in a while right liberal out there. you have to agree because liberal like all type of immorality. And Obama love that also.
General Patraeus is an honorable man who admitted his mistake. He is a true American hero, flawed like all humans are, none the less ,he is a military genuis. Please, people have some compassion.... No one intentionally sets out to fail or betray thier loved ones and country.. Public humilation is punishment in and of itself. Let him that is without sin cast the first stone.. I pray for him and his family.
It just never ceases to amaze me how many great, and potentially great men have destroyed their careers, their reputations, and their families by allowing themselves to either be sexually seduced, or being seducers themselves. For what now? A good orgasm? Really?
No.
A good BJ.
Orgasms are easy.
Good point. It's not about it being over with.
How typical - General Petraeus let his little head tell his big head what to do.
"Men have 2 brains and only enough blood to run one of them at a time".
Are you really Jeff or Jethrene?
It has been known for some time that both Mitts and Obama had hard cock for Paula. Now that Mitts and Petraeus is out of the picture, Obama...with cock in hand, can not wait to bend her over on his oval office desk.
I think "talk to the hand", actually makes love to his hand....
It's all about the POOOTER!!!!
Dont you mean "poonTANG"?
Combination of Cooter and Poontang. Pooter. LOL
I wonder: What a great way on selling your book.
Where there is smoke you normally find fire
What an amazing journey through the media landscape this man has had. From General Betray-Us, to the hero who stepped into a void when asked by his President, to a man who may be vilified in the coming days for this affair.
Naturally the "who knew what, and when" questions will follow given his position, but maybe this one time people will just let the man be so he can work on his private life. Hero should count for something, at some point.
Bill Clinton really needs to write a book..."How I got away with it". It would be a best seller, win him a Pulitzer, and save a lot of carriers.
he got away because the people and media loved him. He could have done more and still get away with it.
Ok, you're the head of the CIA, and you can't get some secretly on the side? Yep, he's fired!
this is just a sidebar. why do you think editors send attractive females to war zones? powerful men give them access to the juicy details.
Interesting use of words, "juicy details" in a sex scandal case.
Bill Clinton should have stepped down too after making a disgrace out of his leadership
most presidents have had affairs whats new?
The affair was one thing-perjury in front of Congress.......hhhmmm. And the beat goes on. JFK and Marilyn was almost expected...as long as no one talked about it. And then...who would approach JFK about it? Things were a lot different then.
Joe, Most Democrat presidents. Except Carter, he was too dumb.
You're still obsessed w/ Bill Clinton's you know what. Come on, admit it. You ditto heads can't get enough of Clinton.
Hey Snake why so defensive...there are still jokes about Washington, Jefferson, Grant, and all the rest...public office and public abuse...they know that going in. They used us, we used them, but no one cared, we were both getting our share....sort of a quote from "Night Moves". America is greater than allah.
Still talking about Clinton? LOL
Ol'Slick Willy was the master at slinging hard cock to many women who wanted it. Willy even had a custom holster made just for his pisstool. Obama and Mitts have a lot to learn from Willy.
I agree with small business.
I'm not outraged about clit-on having an affair, (after all, if I had to "do" Hillary, I'd have an affair too); it was the perjury that ticked me off.
And, no...he didnt get away with it - he was impeached. (notwithstanding that he was not thrown from office, but he WAS still impeached); this will follow him through history, as it did the only other impeached President, Andrew Johnson.
better worry that this creep had access to secret info, not the woman.
Sounds like he admitted to the affair before his biographer, or the FBI, exposed it to the press. Not much of a difference, but if he comes clean before the press hounds it out of him...it looks a littler better. Not much but it does take the "He was trying to hide it" effect away from the press and political pundits. Nonetheless, sad to see a well seasoned and respected civil servant's career end in such a way. His career ended badly, but up to the last fumble he accomplished a great deal and had every reason to be proud of his service and work accomplished. It was a great ride...right up to the crash. Aloha, General!!!
He head of America's secret spy agency, and he couldn't keep this SECRET?!? Fire the fool!
It also reduces the risk that if he was about to become a victim of some sort of blackmail based espionage, that blackmail has been scuttled.
You can read more about this person on this link. Interesting stuff. She definitely has a military background and connections to Israel it looks like. Starting to smell like a set up, or an infiltration scenario.
sorry - comment won't let me cut & paste the link.
It's from her High School in North Dakota. A Hall of Fame or is it infamy?
Have a look... Read this... anyone else suspicious?
Is this the honey the old general was bangin ? Wayy to go Eisenhower
Ok he had an affair with a Paula Broadwell, who wrote a book about him "All In", yes it seems clear. Too much symbolism.
more crap associated with odumbo
smells of BS
looks like BS
sounds like BS
reads like BS
guess what its BS - cover story - more likely he was fed up with all the BS coming out of the white house and wasn't going to be blackmail with this affair. He'll do fine with some military contractor
Let's see. Three months ago the Benghazi consulate was burned to the ground because of a You Tube video. Yesterday (November 1st), we learned that an American drone had been shot down by the Iranians on November 1st. Today; three days after the election and on the Friday before Congress has scheduled hearings on Benghazi, the head of the CIA resigns, over an extra marital affair. Naturally, he will not be testifying next week.
Meanwhile CBS, NBC, and ABC sit quietly and take notes. No skepticism. No curiousity. The TASS news agency couldn't have done a better job covering all of this up.
That is true but do not forget one thing...John McCain is NOT going to let this go. I wrote him-he said as much. He has an entire active and retired military contingent behind him. There is this pesky little thing about an oath to the United States Constitution they all take pretty seriously even if the Commander in Chief does not. This is not over.
Interesting, Patraeus now won't be testifying before Congress on Benghazi-gate. I smell a rat.
So this happen before he took the CIA Directors job .... interesting timing.
And lets stop hearing what an Honorable man this guy is ... that is all i have heard to day ... Doesn't take Honor to cheat on your wife of 37 years now does it ... in fact it shows a LACK of HONOR
He just likes the same ash trays as Bill Clinton. Are they going to tell us that Monica on read the labels on his boxers?
The sore losing right wing blowhards are already blaming Obama on this whole Patraeus/Broadwell scandal.
What did they blow, and when did they blow it?
:)
Well Snake Eyes, he is the commander in chief and Patraeus' boss, so yes, he probably had his dirty fingers in there somewhere.
Paula was the talk of the town for many political figures on both sides for years. As soon Paula was down on all fours, there was a long line of men waiting to put cock into her warm wet puss.
Patraeus should have asked advice from Bill Clinton, he could have told him... Ooops !
Maybe Clinton wouldn't be a good choice for that. The only repercussion that Clinton suffered was the ruination of a few good cigars !
Clintoon's Chicks were never this hawt.
