Senate Intelligence Committee Chairwoman Feinstein: 'We will need to talk to David Petraeus' about Benghazi

Congressman Peter King, who serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, tells TODAY's Matt Lauer that the FBI had an "absolute obligation to tell the president" as soon as General Petraeus' name came up in the agency's investigation.

The chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee says she will seek testimony from former CIA Director David Petraeus, who resigned Friday as CIA director after acknowledging an extramarital affair, about the September attack on the consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that left four Americans dead.

“I have no doubt now that we will need to talk with David Petraeus and we will likely do that in closed session. But it will be done one way or another,” Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., told NBC News’ Andrea Mitchell on Monday.

Feinstein also she also may subpoena reports on a trip Petraeus took to Libya in the last year.

“I believe that Director Petraeus made a trip to the region shortly before this (Petraeus affair) became public,” Feinstein said on "Andrea Mitchell Reports." “We have asked to see the trip report. One person tells me he’s read it, and then we try to get it and they tell me it hasn’t been done. That’s unacceptable.”

“It may have some very relevant information to what happened in Benghazi,” Feinstein said.

A week and a half ago, Petraeus went to Tripoli and conducted a personal inquiry into the Benghazi attack, NBC News has confirmed.

Petraeus has not commented on his trip to Benghazi last month.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., tells NBC's Andrea Mitchell that "a decision was made somewhere not to brief" the Senate Intelligence Committee about on the Petraeus affair and compares the scandal to "peeling an onion," saying "every day another peel comes off," revealing "a new dimension"

Petraeus revelation began as cyber-harassment probe

Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, information management officer Sean Smith and security personnel Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty were killed in the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11-12.

Petraeus, a decorated four-star general who received widespread praise for the surge strategy that helped stabilize the insurgency in Iraq, resigned as CIA director on Friday, citing an extramarital affair.

Numerous federal government officials have told NBC News that the married general had a relationship with his biographer, Paula Broadwell, 40, who authored “All In,” a book about Petraeus’ education.

Feinstein said she received no advance notice of Petraeus’ resignation or the affair.

The affair came to light after an FBI investigation into harassing emails sent to a family friend of Petraeus, Jill Kelley, sources have told NBC News. The investigation traced the emails to Broadwell, who revealed the affair. Petraeus also admitted the affair.

The FBI determined that no criminal charges would be filed as a result of the investigation.

Lawmakers question timing of Petraeus resignation

But now, Feinstein has linked the Petraeus affair with another controversy within the Obama administration – the attack on the Benghazi diplomatic mission in Libya.

The Senate Intelligence committee planned to start closed-door hearings on the Benghazi attack on Thursday with further proceedings expected to follow. Petraeus had been expected to testify at the hearings before he resigned as CIA director.

Republican lawmakers and Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney have criticized the administration’s evolving explanation of what triggered the Benghazi attack. Officials early on said it was a spontaneous reaction during a protest about an anti-Islamic film. Later, it was termed a planned terrorist attack.

Questions have also been raised about whether the consulate had adequate security and whether the State Department responded appropriately to requests for more protection.

Feinstein also questioned Broadwell's role as Petraeus' biographer.

“It’s a rather confused situation because  at one point she was an Army reservist doing intelligence-related work, at the same time she was doing a journalist’s work, a biography on David Petraeus,” Feinstein said. “It seems to me these two things don’t go together, it seems to me someone who becomes active military should not be writing a book.”

This affair was known about for a couple of months. The timing of all of this, coming out right before he was to testify about Bengazi is very suspicious. Could it be that they tried to use this to pressure Patraeus to change his testimony regarding Bengazi and when he refused they used this to take him down?!?! This would be in line with the usual dirty tricks in Washington. Not that I am defending what Patraeus did, obviously it showed poor judgement on his part, but the way DC works this could have been kept quiet and he could have kept his job. I think he refused to toe the party line on Bengazi so this was used to take him down and keep him from testifying before Congress. The plan was to have the acting D/CIA will testify and he is a political hack who will likely stick with the administration story. Now hopefully with Patraeus to testify the truth will come out, although with the hearings being closed door that is far less likely.

Hey Bob... you are correct sir... it is sad, and it is unfortunate that Sh*t does happen, and people do die! But I think the looming questions are....

A) Why was there not enough security on ground?

B) Why did the Administration watch a live feed for 7 hours....and not respond?

C) Why were our boys on the ground told to stand down?

D) Why was there no Marine QRF spun up?

E) Why were the spector gun ships available to the air not re-directed?

F) Why were no other air assets within an hour of the Embassy scrambled?

For God Sake, this went on for 7 hours....to have so many assets ready and willing and within an hour or so from there......HOW DID THIS PLAY OUT SO WRONG? Why did 2 Brave Seals ignore orders and act alone, ultimately costing them their lives. Out of all the eyes watching this unfold.....only 2 men had the sense to do something about it? Seriously.... And then finally why was the American Public told for almost 2 weeks about a video that had absolutely nothing to do with the situation at hand.

If it walks like a duck, quakes like a duck, and sh*ts though feathers.... I'd call it a DUCK! Something just isn't right about this, and WE THE PEOPLE WANT ANSWERS.... not BS LIES!

I have this sinking feeling that even if Obama himself organized the raid on the embassy that killed our ambassador, his supporters would give two sh!ts anyway.

I was just reading about how Jesse Jackson Jr is going to go to prison for corruption in the BlagoGate fiasco and he was re-elected by landslide in Chicago, even though he hasn't been seen in public in months.

HOW DID THIS PLAY OUT SO WRONG?

The truth is they were expendable. The administration was worried we would get drawn into a 1993 Somalia "Black Hawk Down" situation. Al Qaida, if you recall, drew us in for the specific purpose of shooting down the choppers knowing rescue teams would follow and a massacre would ensue. (Which is what almost happened) If it had this close to the election then it would have had dire consequences on the polls.

Everyone knows this is the scenario and we want the administration to own up to it; however, they never will!

All this ruckus about a possible EXTERNAL security breach because of Mr. Petraeus' lack of will power.

Maybe something happened "INTERNAL" (higher echelon pressure, etc.) relating to Benghazi which led him to submit his resignation. Heck, better check his overseas bank accounts and track recent financial deposits.

This whole thing stinks, like a lot of other "stuff" going on in this administration.

Rarely, will you find one that can have a physical relationship without the complex emotions that often go with it. Cheating, which is what this is about, has a price... While you may think you've gotten away with it, it often comes home to roost! Whether it robs you of your heart and soul or the loved one's around you!!! Why not have Open Hearings on this?

Dianne Feinstein said she wants to have open hearings like they did during Watergate. In my opinion this is worse than Watergate.

Watch the video. Mrs. Feinstein had a timeline of Benghazi attacks from April to June of this year. She was very organized and I was very impressed with her. I was shocked when she read off the things that happened. All this lead up to the terrorist attack on 9/11/12.

These are the things they are talking about when Ambassador Stevens was pleading for help from the White House & the State Dept. He never got the help he needed.

Of course after the attack Obama blamed it on the youtube video. There are no words.

My heart goes out to Ambassador Stevens and the three Navy Seals. They were sitting ducks just waiting to be slaughtered.

No matter what happens to our people, to our economy, to our seniors or to our whole way of life, they wanted a black face in the Whitehouse no matter what it cost. Stupid is as Stupid does and people like Tyler here have nothing better to do than make smart ass remarks that have nothing to do with nothing.

When more than half your countrymen are crooked, stupid our bought off, your freedom is doomed.

Hillary/Warren2016; you were just banned so not sure you will get this. But you must be smokin something because you are spouting nothing but crap and full of hate. When Obama took office the unemployment rate was at 7.8%. It hit 10.0% in August of 2009 and remained between 9.0-9.9% for 22 straight month, except for once in March of 2011 at 8.9%. In October of 2011 til Aug of 2012 it was between 8.0-8.9%. Sept and Oct it was 7.8% and 7.9%. This by all accounts is not good. That is on him.

BrainiacV

Boy, the Repubs are like a dog with a bone on this one. Betcha they weren't in such a twist when hundreds were killed under Saint Ronny's Reign.

Hello, this a foreign country, we just can't go waltzing in with troops like we own the place. Even if the extra protection had been approved, we still have to get permission from that government to let them in, unless you are going to hire local and even then, could you trust them?

It might be just like getting a bone since Obama can do no wrong and does not take responsibility for what he does, say, or not say.

Hello???? It is an American Embassy and we have every right to protect our US citizens. You definitely get approval from Congress but not when the US Embassy is calling for protection (from my understanding and yes, I could be wrong). Now if we did need approval, Obama could just do what he wants. Remember, he did not get Congress approval for Afganistan.

Hmmmmm, isn't responsibility, accountability and transparency the foundation that Barrack Hussein claims his administration is built on?

ROTFLMAO!!!!!

Just more slogans and bumper stickers from the most corrupt administration in history.

As liberals try to cling to any fragment of success from this president, the world laughs at us. Their desperation to find some type of legacy to attach to Barrack Hussein is entertaining if not laughable.

This administration continues to fail and their only excuse is to blame anyone but themselves. We still don't know who was involved in Border Agent Brian Terrys murder. We still call the terrorist act at Fort Hood "workplace violence". I don’t know about you, but I always hear mass killers screaming Allahu Akbar as they murder innocent people.

Of course the pandering media continues to cover for this incompetent junior senator whose only qualifications to be president were arranging a few picnics in Chicago as a community organizer and writing a couple books, about himself.

The embarrassing deaths of Ambassador Stevens and 3 diplomats will be swept under the rug as the truth will only expose that Al Qaeda is not on the run but getting bigger and stronger. It proves that killing Osama Porn Laden was simply symbolic for his involvement with 9/11. Terrorism is not a picture on a Most Wanted poster. Until this administration accepts that more and more Americans are at risk.

The Petraeus incident is just one spoke in the huge wheel of corruption in the Benghazi scandal. As a Republic, we can only hope our government doesn't cover it up anymore than they already have.

Don't hold your breath.

Bob , Lincoln County , NC post 1.9 - thank you it is making me nuts trying to think like a Republican Hater. Let's see if I can actually do that....

President Obama got a heads-up from Hillary that Stevens had asked for more security/troops because he feels as if there is a hit coming on 9/11/12. Obama said NO- I want to follow George Bush's doctrine and deny that there is an impending attack. Go ahead and let those innocent people in the embassy die.

Is that it wing nuts - is that what you want it to turn out?

Or perhaps even General David Petraeus the Ex-Director of the CIA who just magically "Resigned" supposedly over an Inexplicable Affair?....http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1112/83678.html

I am sure this is all "Just A Coincidence" but I think if I was a General / Admiral on your "Romney List".....I'd be looking for a place to "Hide"....Quick....Hahahaha and some claim there is "No Story Here"!

Yes, question Petraeus, Clinton, Obama, and anybody elese who was in the room involved with ordering the military to "stand down" for 7 hours and up until the time Ambassador Stevens and the brave Seals were dead, despite their repeated please for back-up, and their subsequent BS statements about the "LA video".

Whose side are Patraeus, Clinton, and Obama on?

What does a resignation supposedly based on a fling with a floozie got to do with it? So what? Certainly a resignation does not relieve a person from testifying or culpability.

All you people who are saying oh he was such a nice noble guy, a picture of ethics have to be eating your words now. I am not sure about a lot of you people but someone who is not faithful to their spouse is the last person I would trust with the secrets of my country or my life, I could care less what moral fiber he has fooled you with for so many years. A snake is a snake and obviously his true colors have shown through, can't be trusted and obviously never could be. More lives lost to this administrations inept running of our country. Did Petraeus do great things for our country??? Who knows, you couldn't believe anything he said at this point.

Very true Scott. Ever notice Frankenfeinstein looks a lot like a cabbage patch kid? Maybe a garbage pail kid. Politics is theatre for the truly ugly in life, Reed and Pelosi are great examples. Just saying. Hey the left smears like crazy, maybe the intelligence meter should be dumbed down so as to communicate with drones. Short grunts and laughter perhaps.

Seriously though, this administration is the LEAST transparent of all administrations in our life time and going to war without congressional approval is the height of anti constitutional.

We need checks and balances and this president provides smoke and mirrors.

But this crap here is all about taking the GOP attention off the Deficit negotiation and actually doing something except talking to Fox news. You are gonna take a big hit by a huge majority of Americans, like it or not. We do have the opportunity to lead the world with a meaningful congress and a solution to our economy which will benefit the whole world. It seems our economic problems are much more important than a guys indescretion. And of course a GOP Rep was given info about this and, well, he didn't do anything cause it didn't mean anything to him.

2009-2011 was spent bickering about Obama's birth certificate. Not much else got done in congress. 2012 -2014 will be spent wasting time bickering about who's to blame for Benghazi with little else getting done by congress. The facts are simple. The Libyan government law said no US military security for the embassy was allowed. No US armed guards within the embassy was allowed. That Libya would supply armed protection for the embassy. Kind of how our laws are written here for all other embassies within the US. We supply adequate protection. Libya didn't and we paid the price which means needed policy changes for our diplomats around the world or we shouldn't be in those countries to begin with. We should not have had an embassy in Libya until it had been stabilized.

TeaKooks,

Wow, just wow. You hate everything that doesn't blindly follow your way of thinking. Want to explain to the masses here how your way of thinking is American? Or doesn't that sound more ... totalitarian? C'mon now, just because you voted for Obama and he received more ballots with his name marked, doesn't mean you got the right guy in office.

Obama taxes Americans to conduct live-abortions. LIVE-ABORTIONS! I'm sickened by this, but you'll ignore it and pretend like it's a GOP lie because it doesn't support your way of thinking. People who are not teachable are simply people who have not suffered enough yet. But vote him back in, maybe we'll have more teachable people as Obama's team continues to rip apart the constitution.

God bless America, and save our brave men and women from the dangers inside America as well as beyond her.

At this point I am thinking it really doesn’t matter what happens, we will never get the truth. This administration is incapable of telling the truth if they think it will have a negative impact on Obama. I don’t rally understand that either, Obama received 51% of the vote after his failed policies, the worst economy in my life time, no jobs, covering up Fast and Furious, claiming executive privilege to protect Eric Holder and his lies, Solendra, blocking the oil pipeline which would have created numerous jobs, dismisses our allies in favor of Hollywood celebrities, watched an American Ambassador and two military hero’s die without granting requests for help. I could go on forever. We have a person in the Whitehouse playing President who will never take responsibility for his actions or be held accountable. It seems this guy is bullet proof and for the life of me I can’t understand it. So in my opinion stop the dog and pony show, this will only be one more cover up in Obama’s Presidency. I will never again respect the Office of the Presidency as I once did. Obama is an embarrassment, it is apparent to me the bar has been lowered, there is no honor or integrity to speak of. Obama could be replaced by any low life gangster / thug from Chicago and do as well.

Petraeus should be busted back and stripped of rank for conduct unbecoming an officer which would reduce his pension. Unfortunately he likely has a golden parachute plan now that he has worked for this administration.

Obama and his administration well what can you say, lie, duck and dodge and no transparency is the norm., thick as thieves they are. The same people who voted him in office are the ones who voted the "soon to be indicted reported criminal" Jessie Jackson Jr. into office, knowing he would be indicted right after his election. These people just don't care, they are on the take and they only care about getting theirs. The same ones who voted in Blago and the Panther Gangster Bobby Rush... Only in Chicago and Illinois folks, well until now it appears. The rest of the nation has dummied themselves down to taking second best, just so they can take. The youth in this country will unfortunately see the error in their votes when they are paying for these mistakes, if there is a financial system left. I think we all see how households without a budget faired.... most are living on the streets or needed a bailout, who bails out the government? We taxpayers as usual.

Bob-- you don't find the timing of the release of any information just a little bit convenient? We don't hear boo about anything Benghazi related (except from Fox, and CBS [on the eve of the election, when of course it can't harm Obama] until AFTER the election. The investigation is supposedly completed four days after the election, but nothing is breathed of this until a week after?

I don't know what's going on....I just know I doubt very much the same media courtesy would have been extended regarding Benghazi had a Republican been in office.....

Bush's God killed 1000s of U.S. troops. I think he worshiped the devil.

How exactly? And no BS about an illegal war. He got approval from both House and Senate. And please no BS about no WMD and that it was for oil. During Bush Sr. tenure, there was proof of WMD. Not only that but Clinton on February 17, 1998 gave a speech regarding this. He talked about planning an air attack on Iraq for having them and if Hussein did not cooperate. He had them back then. And by all accounts he had them in 2003. He was a bad bad guy that deserved to be taken out.

For anyone who wants to see how many democrats agreed with Clinton and Bush take a look. Interestingly enough, the democrats said that Bush lied. Tells you how little of a backbone Democrats have when standing what they believe in.

Dec. 25: A Nigerian man on a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit attempted to ignite an explosive device hidden in his underwear. The explosive device that failed to detonate was a mixture of powder and liquid that did not alert security personnel in the airport. The alleged bomber, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, told officials later that he was directed by the terrorist group Al Qaeda. The suspect was already on the government's watch list when he attempted the bombing; his father, a respected Nigerian banker, had told the U.S. government that he was worried about his son's increased extremism.
Dec. 30, Iraq: a suicide bomber kills eight Americans civilians, seven of them CIA agents, at a base in Afghanistan. It's the deadliest attack on the agency since 9/11. The attacker is reportedly a double agent from Jordan who was acting on behalf of al-Qaeda.

      2011
Jan. 17, Spokane, Washington: a pipe bomb is discovered along the route of the Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial march. The bomb, a "viable device" set up to spray marchers with shrapnel and to cause multiple casualties, is defused without any injuries.
      2012
Sept. 11, Benghazi, Libya: militants armed with antiaircraft weapons and rocket-propelled grenades fire upon the American consulate, killing U.S. ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens and three other embassy officials. U.S. secretary of state Hillary Clinton said the U.S. believed that Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, a group closely linked to Al Qaeda, orchestrated the attack.

Ok, so if my math is somewhat correct, well over 3000 people died at the hands of terrorist acts while George W Bush was in office. President Obama has thwarted several instances of attempted terrorism both here and abroad, and 9 Americans have perished under his "watch", due to terrorist activities. It's sad to lose any lives, anytime; however, that being said... I just can't remember the right wing outrage during the Bush years. But they just can't seem to focus on anything but the Benghazi tragedy. It's almost like the pinnacle in hypocrisy... coming from a bunch of sore losers. Get over it, President Obama was elected by the majority, both populace vote and electoral... pretty sure you're stuck with him for another 4 yrs, one way or another.

Another point: this "Petraeus" thing comes up at a time we need to get some real fiscal reform. Trouble is, we have 537 people in power in DC and damn few of them know a thing about economics. I appears to me they are trying to avoid an item which they know nothing about, save a few "back benchers" who are constantly relegated to menial committees and the like.

Based on the timing, it sounds like a diversion to me.

A very fishy, fecund, and underhanded Diversion.

Both parties do not give a whit about the United States in my opinion. And the sad thing is the "Right" will buy the Fox News rubbish fed to them, and the "Left" will buy the Horse "Feces" being fed to them by Cooper, Olbermann, etc.

Folks, this Petraeus situation is not that complicated. His wife is old, fat and ugly. He is smart, powerful and in great shape for his age and gets to move around the whole world. These women he has been involved with are much younger, very smart and quite attractive. Unlike Bill Clinton, the General seems to have seems to have pretty good taste. In conclusion, if Bill Clinton's wandering weenie was not enough to keep him from remaining President, why should Petraeus step down and take all this crap. The guy is one the great military leaders of our generation regardless of who he sleeps with. His resignation should never have been accepted. If cheating were a disqualifier, half the congress would be gone and Latin America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East would have no governments.

"The chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee says she will seek testimony from former CIA Director David Petraeus, who resigned Friday as CIA director after acknowledging an extramarital affair, about the September attack on the consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that left four Americans dead"

So, the logical conclussion to draw from this statement are several theories.
      1. President Obama and General Pretraues hated the Four Americans that were killed in Benghazi so much that the lied about the attack just so these people would be killed (Completely delusional thinking).
      2. He had sex with this woman and that is what sparked the riots in Benghazi that lead to these 4 Americans getting killed.
      3. He had sex with this Woman while at the Benghazi Consulate and Muslims were "outraged" that they did not get there chance to take turns with her.
      4. He was having non-stop sex while he was supposed to be surveying the security of the Consulate
      5. The President lead the Benghazi attack dressed as a Muslim pilgrim that day

I am sorry, but this "Benghzi attack" drama is dragging out WAY to long. These guys died. They were attacked by murderers and we need to bring them to justice. You can talk all day about security and 'would of", "should of", done this and that. Its Pointless. They had been living in Benghazi with the current level of security for years and NO ONE said a word. The SECOND something happens, all of you idiotic "Armchair Investigators" chime in on these boards to give your "expert" opinion on what level of security we should have had in place. Too bad you didn't mention this last year or the year before that. You just wait for something to go wrong, and then you morons come to these boards and give your expert opinion on what "I would have done" if you were in charge. You would not have done Jack S**t. "They had been living in Benghazi with the current level of security for years and NO ONE said a word."

Pretty much every part of this sentence is untrue.

      (1) Qaddafi died on Oct 20, 2011; barely a year ago. I'm not sure what the date for the establishment of the facility in Benghazi was (apparently it wasn't even fully accredited as a consulate yet), but the US Embassy in Libya (located in Tripoli) had only been re-opened on Sep 22, 2011.

      (2) Neither the facility nor the Ambassador's personal staff had been at that current level of security for any great length of time, the security having recently been reduced.

      (3) There were numerous requests for increased security both from the Libyan security provider and ambassadorial staff, including the Ambassador himself.

Try to be an American for 10 minutes and look at this objectively. There are some serious problems with this whole Bengazi thing. At this point Obama has been re-elected, so calling it a Republican campaign issue is not going to fly. Feinstein is a Democratic Senator and she smells a rat. Unless one of them testifies under oath about this no crime has been committed. And they are bending like pretzels to try and avoid testifying. But there are some serious judgement issues or worse going on here.

Where are Woodward and Bernstein on something like this?

As far as your STFU comment goes I served 20+ years in the military to defend the rights of people like you which is to bad because you are not worth it. I have earned the right to voice my opinion. If I ever had a punk like you tell me that in person you would be picking yourself up off the floor. • Spring 2012- The FBI starts their investigation of Petraeus
      • Summer 2012- Eric Holder & Justice learn about the investigation (NY Times)
      • October 25th-Eric Cantor learns of the investigation from a LOW LEVEL FBI employee
      • Nov 6th-ELECTION DAY
      • Nov 7th -Director Of Nat'l Intelligence learns of the investigation
      • Nov 8th- The President of The United States learns that there is an investigation regarding the Director of The Central Intelligence Agency
      • The most powerful man in the world is the LAST ONE TO KNOW that his CIA Director is having an affair and is the subject of a federal investigation.....

      • I think Feinstein might be one of the ONLY people in Congress who will do the right thing here; she sounded legitimately PISSED that there were a lot of investigations going on and as the head of the Intelligence Committee she was kept in the dark.
      • She has been a Senator eince 1992; senior officials feel entitled to the "inside dope" when something big like this goes down. To be left out of the loop since the Spring of this year with multiple investigations going on; to have 4 guys DIE over Intelligence misdeeds has got to piss her off.
      • PLUS...her #2 man on this Committee is Chambliss of Georgia, who has been in Congress since 1995. Both of these veterans on the Hill cannot be pleased that their committee was "dissed" for the last 6-7 months.
      • They are going to take NO prisoners here; and if the trail does lead up to the White House (and it will), Obama is going to have some explaining to do.....
      • I don't think "Executive Privilege" applies when the deaths of 4 men are involved; Obama claims he was the LAST to know about Petraeus......nobody believes that....not even the Feisty Redhead (better renew her contract as spinmaster Obama)
      • If it is not too late already.....

Forgive me but I guess I'm still lost? What does this have to do with the attacks? Did the affair lead to a leak that lead to the attacks? If not what is the direction of linking the two? I get that based on the timeline above and other comments that maybe the POTUS did know about this prior and their is that issue and coverup to what he knew about the investigation and why was Cantor informed, but what is the correlation between this and the attacks?

I wonder because I'm tired of all the BS that has been attached to these attacks. From making it political to all the finger pointing and witch hunts. 4 men died needlessly in a hostile area, and yes we should try to figure out where the breakdown occurred so we don't repeat it but the way this has turned into a spectacle is really upsetting. At the EOD it is bureaucratic BS on both sides that likely lead to the breakdown that lead to their deaths. And yes I think starfox above does have some legit points about the situation but again, not defending either side, can we drop the political BS figure out what, if any one thing lead to what happened and move on? And as I asked above please explain how the attack and the affair are related or have any bearing on one or the other.

      It is time

PS - Believe, isn't that SOP for all politicians in one way or another? Essentially do and only do as needed so that you can ensure to be reelected? Whether actually actively campaigning like going to events and debates or "performing" their "duties" to the American people while in office/on the job?

Pelosi, I believe Senator Feinstein is one of very few elected "representatives" of EITHER party who actually uses common sense and intellect when investigating events (otherwise known as getting to the bottom of matters), instead of considering how it will look for her party before doing anything (otherwise known as covering your bosses' asses, something politicians of BOTH parties are EXPERTS at) . She is absolutely right on this matter.

Leslie, give it a rest. If it weren't for President Bush your guy would never have been elected. And the soldiers that were killed, you lefties love to deminish the sacrafice that they made simply to take the heat off of your little Stalinist. The soldiers that you say President Bush killed were volunteers, and they weren't all children but most were very educated, mature people. Instead of using them to beat republicans over the head with, maybe you should stop and thank God (and I don't mean obama) that there are still patriots in this country who believe we still have the duty to defend our country against our enemies. Too many voters embrace feel-good propaganda that they want to hear instead of learning the basic facts about issues they care about. They should do a better job of calling out dishonest politicians -- and shunning media outlets that stoke political food fights.

This whole mess is very clearly a cover up, If this is in fact the case this so called military man should be ashamed of himself, He killed his own men to cover up for an election, shame on all of you. This kinda smells of a Clinton White House cover up, Whitewater, Monica L and what ever else we will never know about. At least he just got a BJ, and to the best of our knowledge ,no one got killed or raped. this president and his crew, may have killed at least 4 people and tried to keep it quite so he could win a election, What a bunch of guys huh. I hope they never have to help me, I may not survive. To all SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN AROUND THE WORLD, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE GREAT JOB YOU ARE DOING AND HAVE DONE FOR US , AT LEAST WE THE PEOPLE SUPPORT YOU. THANK YOU ALL AND A BIG THANK YOU TO YOUR FAMILIES THAT SACRIFICE ALONG WITH YOU. GOD BLESS AND STAY SAFE.

What more do we want to see? We want to see who came up with the idea to lie about a video so the Prez could jet off to Vegas and not interrupt his campaign. We want to see why the media is so willing to sit on any story that would make the Prez look bad right before an election. We want to see why the Prez refuses to admit this and the Fort Hood shooting are terrorist attacks. We want to see what's in that Kool-aid you're drinking to not care about being lied to by your government and media.

So the worse case scenario is that the President lied about the attack by saying it was sparked by a video instead of an organized terrorist attack. No one is denying Benghazi was a failure. FoxNews has been playing Benghazi up since it happened....or do you finally admit Fox isn't really news at all. You can bring up Benghazi all you want, but the President was reelected regardless and there was no impeachable offense. You are suggesting I drink the Kool Aid when you are the one in shock that the government possibly lied about something.

Because the people that voted to re-elect Obama didn't and don't care about Benghazi. They only care about what social issue they are championing that will get passed through over the next four years.

I believe what people are leading to is an understanding of why these Americans died when it is becoming clear that there were time and resources to prevent it. Rather than "come clean" politicians (R&D) lie about what's going on to avoid taking responsibility (although that IS occurring as more covered up information comes to light.) The public in general is becoming very tired of this. First it was Clinton, then Bush was hounded for nearly his entire administration, and now it's Obama's time. But the outrage precipitating the "political witch hunts" is, in part, substantiated. The Public just wants to be told the truth and neither party is being honest. Hope that helps you understand that though there is political resentment fueling some of these post, there are genuine dead people, fellow dead Americans that need to be accounted for if the deaths were preventable.

The GOP continues to be an embarrassing party for all Americans.

Lets switch sides for a second. If it had been George Bush that potentially manipulated this story to assure his administration were not held in a bad light right before an election, there would be nonstop coverage and investigation.

Why would the administration want to cover this up with a fabricated story about a movie?

Because it tears down the idea that Terrorism is on the run and the administration has it under control.

My theory is that the Administration was trying to low key this the entire time. Stand down and everything will blow over. Bring in the military and it blows up the middle east and his election chances. So they took the calculated gamble that nothing would happen.

And then the people in Bengazi had the bad form to go and get killed. That brought the spotlights on the administrations reaction to the attack. Which was non-existant. That is when the video coverup became necessary. Blame it all on some UTube video that no one has seen. Its not terrorism, it was a semi-justifiable reaction to a horrible video. They went on record everywhere blaming that video for what happened when they knew 30 minutes in to the attack that it was a coordinated and planned attack by a terrorist group.

It seems that the Petraus affair was unearthed in the summer. But he conveniently resigns right after the election and days prior to having to testify to congress. Then Hillary is "too busy" to speak to Congress right before she wraps up her time as Sec of State. It seems clear that they don't want to purjure themselves. I don't blame them.

The fact that the president was watching this event in real time (if he wasn't out hangin' with Jay Z), denied support, and then lied to the American people for 2 weeks with this "random mob protest over a video" story...

I think those are fairly valid reasons to suspect a cover-up, don't you?

I'm not sure how this attack has been downplayed. It has been all over the news since it happened and the President was questioned about it directly during the debates. He has claimed he responded to the intelligence he received as he was getting it. I'm sure he was unhappy that the intelligence was wrong. However, your worst case scenarios aren't really that bad. It is not as if he invaded an entire country on poor intelligence ;) Keep your phony conspiracy theories...it is a stretch of the imagination and at worst the President lied about to what extent the attack was planned.

I have a problem that the Ambassador requested more security and was denied more then once. after they had been bombed in June. I have a problem that our President sending someone out to tell us a "lie" and he kept that "lie"going for weeks....and with all lies they have a way of falling apart, as this one did. But they tried to keep the lie going...the speech at the United Nations, during the Debates and they kept unraveling .... Then he threw Hillary under the bus....Now this, the timing is off. I feel like I'm watching a movie like...Wag the Dog....they keep throwing all these distractions at us so maybe we will forget what we really looking at.

We were "unofficially" interrogating Muslim terrorists there. That's one of the reasons Benghazi was attacked. Besides the fact that this was a known soft target that we were definitely aware of because of previous threats and attacks. The terrorists new more about the easy target than our President and our own intelligence claims to have known. Feinstein to get to the bottom of it, hell why not just recruit Janet Reno. She did such a nice job at Waco!

Naaah ! That is just more regime BS. Why would an Ambassador be involved in that sort of stuff?

He was there to try and get the weapons the US had illegally transferred there and were now feeling the heat of that error.

Also, Obama (if that is his name) saw chance to silence Stevens.

Why ? because Stevens had some embarrassing info about BO which BO did not want made public.

This won't be the first time the protagonists of Obama (if that is his name) have mysteriously left the earth.

The attacks leading up to the 9/11 attack are very telling. Then you have Ambassador Stevens pleading for more help to Obama and Hillary in the month before the 9/11 attack. His pleads fell on death ears.

Ambassador Stevens and the three Navy Seals had horrible deaths and it could all have been avoided if only Obama and Hillary would have acted. They were aware of Stevens pleads for help.
