Police: Arizona woman runs down husband with car for not voting

Arizona police say a pregnant woman ran over her husband with the family car because she was angry he didn't vote. KPNX's Oralia Ortega reports.

An Arizona woman, in despair at the re-election of Democratic President Barack Obama, ran down her husband with the family car in suburban Phoenix on Saturday because he failed to vote in the election, police said on Monday.

Holly Solomon, 28, was arrested after running over husband Daniel Solomon following a wild chase that left him pinned underneath the vehicle.

Daniel Solomon, 36, was in critical condition at a local hospital, but is expected to survive, Gilbert police spokesman Sergeant Jesse Sanger said.

Police said Daniel Solomon told them his wife became angry over his "lack of voter participation" in last Tuesday's presidential election and believed her family would face hardship as a result of Obama winning another term.

Witnesses reported the argument broke out on Saturday morning in a parking lot and escalated. Holly Solomon then chased her husband around the lot with the car, yelling at him as he tried to hide behind a light pole, police said. He was struck after attempting to flee to a nearby street.

Obama won the national election with 332 electoral votes compared with 206 for Republican challenger Mitt Romney. Arizona's 11 electoral votes were won by Romney.

LOL, These are the people that vote republican! The most intelligent and upstanding citizens! Disclaimer I am neither Republican or Democrat. I think our country needs to do away with parties or created multiple parties, I vote for the most sensible candidate.

This is what happens when you rush into a relationship with someone that you really don't know, you risk ending up with a sociopathic NUT from hell on your hands. People don't always let on their little (or not so little) pathologies because they can be skilled at hiding their emotions in the quest for their brass (or in this case, gold) ring. Be wary of someone who has difficulty calmly taking their time or letting you make your due diligence in a relationship, be it affective, business or any other kind. Yup, their are a lot of real fruitcakes and flaky pastries out there, and they don't always let on right away...

IMHO, this is what happens when parties campaign on a platform of FEAR... and not much else. With Bush, Jr., it was all about Terrorism... and for him it worked (the public re-elected him). With Romney, it was about the economy. And the message was... pick the wrong guy for President... and the consequences will be dire.

When both sides spend so much time demonizing each other... when people like Chuck Norris predict a 1,000 years of darkness if Obama won... quite frankly, I'm surprised this sort of thing isn't happening more often.

"The abortion practitioner who is getting national attention for telling pro-life advocates that his abortions help rid the world of “ugly, black babies” turns out to be a prominent Democratic Party donor.

“The doctor in the video, apparently, is an active political donor, giving almost all his money to Democrats,” notes Tim Carney, of the Washington Examiner.

Ashutosh Virmani is a frequent Democratic Party contribute, according to a web site that tracks federal political donations.

In 2010, he gave donations to Democratic candidates and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. In 2008, he supported Hillary Clinton for president and well a Democratic organizations. In 2006, Virmani supported Democrats along with his local pro-life Republican Congresswoman, an irony given that she wants to see abortion made illegal. In 2004, the abortion doctor backed John Kerry and, in 2000, he supported John Edwards.

Day Gardner, President of the National Black Pro-Life Union, is alerting people to a video that shows abortion practitioner Ashutosh Ron Virmani referring to the black children that he kills as “ugly black babies.”

“Let me see one of you adopt one of those ugly black babies,” she says.

“Excuse me? It’s all too obvious that he has a particular disgust for black babies and therefore has no problems killing them,” Gardner responds. “The black community should be outraged because Ashutosh Virmani is a brazen racist........."

You can be proud of the fact that Arizona finally freed Mississippi from the stigma of "the nation's dumbest state" award, which it had undefeatedly been given to by the Morgan Quitno Press, for lowest graduation rates and lowest school test scores. A truly charitable feat...*snicker*.

Romney carried Arizona, so his vote wouldn't have mattered anyway, since the President is elected by ELECTORAL votes NOT POPULAR votes.....his wife needs an education, like most Republicans....but, oh well! Her husband should file for divorce and marry a smart Democrat! :)

Okay people, it's time to calm the hell down. Let's just get to the business of healing the country's economy and getting on a better track. The election is over, get over it, and deal with the real issues facing the country. The mental issues are a whole different matter and l am ignoring that ignorance.

It's amazing how many of you idiots actually correlate this womans actions with her being a republican or a democrat. I'm sure she has many more problems than being a member of a particular political party. Why is EVERYTHING about the opposing party being raving lunatics or evil? Most of you are examples of why this country is as divided and in such disarray as it is. Everything is not so black and white (or red and blue.) Wake up and stop being such slaves to your respective sides. Just so sick of people comparing one person's maniacal actions to who they voted for and attributing that to the rest of their party...ridiculous.

Well, unclesamslittleexperiment, apparently IN THIS CASE, it WAS her political affiliation that was at least partly to blame for this "accident/crime". So read the article before trying to ridicule everyone else for commenting on a story...thanks for your input though! :)

very good point, unclesamslittleexperiment! I must admit that my 'Gary Larson Far Side' sense of humor gets me to laughing at both sides, but we as a country really DO need to cooperate and get to healing our nation! Times are going to be rough, no matter who won the election, because of generations of mistakes that have been made. But if we are to truly rebuild this wonderful nation of ours, we must do it together, TOGETHER regardless of who we voted for. And I voted for a third party--Jill Stein--but I don't harbor any ill will towards anyone. We really do need to find ways to pull together to reunite our country, and we don't have to all agree on everything to do it. But we do need to each choose to be the best influence we can be in the free marketplace of ideas, and respect each other's right to choose.

              #69.3 - Tue Nov 13, 2012 11:03 AM EST

You miss my point taz..it's her mental instability that is at the root of this...regardless of political affiliation there are whackos on both sides of this fence we still intend on keeping up. Go third party!

The nuts just keep crawling out of the woodwork. If Romney carried Arizona then his vote didn't matter anyway. I am a working senior citizen on medicare and social security. I have been self employed for decades and have always paid taxes. I do not understand this term "takers" and may be one but I don't believe I have ever met anyone that I thought did more than their share for the country. How anyone can claim the moral high ground about doing less is beyond me. I have created jobs but always to fill demand so that I could prosper. I am a veteran but they had a draft when I got out of high school. That does not make me patriotic. It makes me a capitalist. Maybe that is why I am not for either party.
