Cops: Mom, 2 kids found slain in walk-in closet of Miami home

MIAMI -- A mother and her two young daughters were found dead in a closet on Tuesday, police said.

A neighbor who has access to the house on NW 4th St. noticed a foul odor around 2:30 p.m. and discovered three bodies in a bedroom walk-in closet, according to Miami-Dade Police. The girls were aged four and eight.

"We have the murder of a woman and two kids, so there is a public safety concern, we know there is somebody out there who did this," Miami-Dade Police spokesman Det. Roy Rutland told reporters. "As far as whether or not this was somebody who knew them, it's still too early to tell, we are exhausting all leads."

Friends identified the mother as Gladys Machado. Olga Espinoza described the woman as friendly, outgoing and pretty.

The children’s father arrived on the scene late Tuesday night. He did not comment.

A six-year-old male relative was found alive at another location, police said.

The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner's Department will determine the cause and manner of the deaths, police said.

A loss, is a loss, is a loss - be it your child who throws a tantrum after a Little League game, or your Grandparent who throws a tantrum after their political affiliation loses, or a parent who loses it when informed they are being divorced...so maybe a story like this triggers something in some people that makes them tie one type of loss to another type of loss.

It is bad enough to still have these kinds of emotions when you are an adult - to broadcast your lack of maturity over a forum - is a cry for help. Those who need help the most, are the last ones to admit it and seek help. This is why I'm always questioning why Conservatives go to Liberal forums and why Liberals go to Conservative forums - this need to confront others you disagree with is clearly a self degrading action.

I guess some people would rather be miserable and spread their misery, than seek happiness...even a drug addict is trying to ease their misery - what does that say about those who don't care how much misery they spread in life?

Children being murdered by their Mothers, Fathers, Cousins and nannies, what is happening to us? We have drugs that alter our thoughts and then we wonder what is going on. Medication should not make you think of suicidal thoughts or thoughts of hurting others. If you are having these thoughts or just know of the possibility these drugs have stop taking them before you are the next to go off on some terrible escapade. Folks I can tell you from my experience Lyrica is known to alter your thoughts and needs to be taken off the market. The positives are not worth the negatives!

I read somewhere that the current husband; who is not the father of the girls, was charged with the murders and he also made a full confession. The little girls were 4 and 8 and her son; the boy mentioned here, is 6 years old. That news was dated November 20, so it seems NBC is a little late.

It's gotten to the point where I can barely read the comments because so many people feel compelled to throw political jabs. I really don't understand such immature behavior.

I would definitely like to see an update to this story after the father and other close associates have been investigated.

I don't know what is more disturbing. A mother and her kids murdered and stuffed in a closet or the callous sickness of the writings of people here. Your garbage makes you not want to even read another article but have a great day now that you feel better making fun of this tragedy.

I'm a believer that stories like this shouldn't even be reported on in the press - they often make the survivors into victims. The boy that survived will forever be identified with this horrific act. It only takes one kid at school to put 2 and 2 together and before you know it every person in his school will have a totally different view of that boy - it happened in my family, to my mom...people are just cruel.

What worries me is the increasing number of murders like this. How can someone murder a woman and 2 innocent children? More women need to take gun classes and learn to defend themselves. I do not know te gun laws in Florida, but a woman carrying a concealed weapon might help in situations like this.

I live in Texas and am an older female. I have carried a concealed gun ever since my life was once threatened and the sheriff told me to carry a gun. I take classes regularly as well as go to the gun range regularly and practice to protect myself, my family, my neighbors and my property, along with any innocents that may be in danger from crazy people. I always call the police first unless it requires immediate intervention. So far, the peolice have been able to get to problems in time. However, I am armed wherever I can legally go that way.

As times get tougher, more people may need to learn self protection. Whether this situation could have been prevented by that or not, I do not know.

I pray for that poor woman and her children. I hope the murderer is found quickly and put in prison for life, or even put to death. Children are the future of our country. May God bless the deceased.

                  Numb3rTech,

Florida has some of the most liberal gun laws of any state. You can get a concealed handgun permit there even if you are not a resident.

She may have already had a firearm, and the knowledge to use it, but we won't know until further investigation. Most murders are committed by people known to the victim/s, so she may have willingly let her attacker/s into her home.

Bless the family and help them in their grief.

Curious to see where the husband has been. If the neighbor truly did notice a foul odor, and that's why he went to investigate, the bodies had to have been there for a while. A couple of days, depending on the conditions in the house.

RIP mom and babies! It seems we read these kinds of stories almost everyday. Where are these people's care of others? Where is their humanity? How are these people being raised to be so narcissistic and sociopathic? No feelings and no care. What is happening in our society to create this many crazies? Is it the constant barrage of violence on TV and movies as entertainment? Is this really entertainment?

I think, we, as a society need to look at what we are producing in our society as whole. Why do WE think it is so entertaining to see so much violence? It gets more graphic all the time.

Florida gun laws are alot like our laws here in Texas. If this is a murder and not a murder suicide I just dont see how liberals condem the death sentence. Any crime against children is horrific.

I am a 66 yr old female Democrat. This has always been true since my opinions, convictions and moral makeup lean slightly to the left. I see no reason for a person not to have a weapon in the house for protection...many "liberals" feel this way and own guns. As far as the death penalty...there are several scenarios where I am all for the death penalty. In my opinion crimes against children, the elderly and those that are mentally incompetent to protect themselves fall into this punishment scale. There are human beings that can not be successfully rehabilitated. So OK...be forewarned, once you mess with a anyone that is helpless, you will pace a small cell for the rest of your life, or you will die so that you are NEVER able to repeat your deeds. The killer of this Mom and her young daughters (may they RIP) must be found. Apparently no one knows the details of this crime as yet, but right now I see no reason why this killer should not face death.

dnon46, it's nice that you're so sure of yourself, and I applaud you for it.

I know how to use a gun, I have experience at the firing range, but I don't have one. I've been in mock invasion situations (only I didn't know that they were mock at the time), and I freeze up. I'm not going to have a gun just so that the prep can have another weapon; I'm also concerned that I'd end up shooting my own husband or kid accidentally, thinking that they were intruders.

Having a gun in a murder/suicide situation only helps the murderer.

Dang! Gun nuts will use any story to promote their lunacy. Look at all the other cultures in the world that have FEWER murders than we have (that's nearly ALL OTHER CULTURES!). What do they have in common? Well, for instance, they don't have guns floating around their populations in anything like the numbers we have! How about those cultures that have MORE murders (if you can find any)? Lots of guns!!

You personally may feel safer if you carry a gun. I'm happy for you, if you do. There is zero evidence that doing so actually makes you safer though. (Actually, if you don't go looking for trouble, this is a pretty safe place to be, anyway.) There is no evidence though, (even considering your feelings of your own safety with a gun), that having a gun handy would have made these folks any safer! It could even turn out that the person who killed the woman and kids, also took a nearby fire arm (guns get stolen every day). In which case, the lady's possession of a gun would not only NOT made her safer, but might now make somebody else less safe!!

Lets just mourne the dead, and leave our political arguements for another time, ok?

                      Big ed,

Actually, there are tons of statistics showing that less strict guns laws in the US equal less gun murders in that area. And yes we can see a causational impact, and not just correlation as it has been done many times throughout the US. I know statistics can be hard, but if you sign up for a class at your local college, you can start seeing just how wrong you are.

Big Ed. You conveniently omitted the fact that the 10 most dangerous cities in the world are all restrictive towards their citizens owning firearms. All 10 cities were south of the US as well. Your facts are as obtuse and void of reality as the rest of your Brady Campaign drivel. There are thousands of cases of citizens defending themselves with firearms that the MSM will never report because it does not fit their leftist, antigun agenda. BTW, it really is best that limp wristed pantywaists like yourself don't own guns. I'm sure that you will defend yourself adequately by hurling fashion insults and making dramatic hand gestures should you ever be assaulted.

The fact that this type of crime has become more common-place really is indicative of our society as a whole. We have become almost desensitized to children being murdered and that is the tragedy. Hau Mita-kuya-oyasin, We are all related.

This was also happening back in the early 1900's. I read some old newspapers, and the difference between today and then was that today we actually go out and find the person responsible. Back in the early 1900's, everyone would go find some "uppity" black or ne'er do well white and torture, then hang him from the nearest tree. That was supposed to serve justice, and everyone cheerfully went back to whatever they were doing, except the people in "colored town" or the hobo camps, who still had to go back to whatever they were doing: To leave was a proclamation of guilt.

Very intelligent statement from the police "we know there is somebody out there who did this" . Duh...no really Sherlock???? My deceased husband who was a State Trooper is probably turning over in his grave. With people like that on the force....another senseless murder of the innocent unsolved.

I thought the very same thing when I read about what the detective said. yeah, there is some monster out there that did this and I hope they find this individual.....and hopefully execute the dirtbag.

The foul odor lead right up to the nest of Big Bird where authorities found the Cake Monster. Both were red-eyed after smoking some legalized pot. Also the detectives discovered with pants down to their ankles was Mitts and Michelle like wise buzzed and stoned, after being overtaken by the size of Big Birds Cock. The Cake Monster paranoid by the partaking of mass quantities of legalized reefer spilled his cookies and told authorities that he had committed the crime down the street. The stoned Cake Monster was then handcuffed and taken to the county lockup. Big Bird was cited for having a common house of nuisance. Mitts and Michelle slowly got up, sore ass's and still buzzing, pulled their pants up and left the nest to return back home.

Of course none of us know all of the details yet, but for those two little girls 4 and 8 years old and their mother to be murdered and left in a closet like dirty laundry until a neighbor noticed the stench coming from the house is very sad! One has to immediately ponder why the 6 year old boy relative was found alive and well at another location, where he had been long enough for these events to take place?? And we also have to wonder where was the father all this time, not checking in on his children obviously, but supposedly only arriving after the fact alive and well and making no comment??? Maybe he isn’t guilty, but DUH, I do wonder who did such a horrible crime????? And, why where they not discovered until a stench erupted from their home???? It seems as though today’s society produces more and more mad men killing their families to avoid the stresses of life. Hmmmm, my opinion is that the Death Penalty is simply not good enough for killers, in my opinion. I believe if criminals knew that what they do to someone else will be done to them, they may think twice. Our system is way too conservative.

I was thinking the same thing. They must have been dead a while if they were found because of the smell? And that means the father had not been there. That seems to point to one thing, but then we don't have all the facts.

Sad story though. I can't get my head around why/how someone would want to kill these people, especially since there's no mention of a robbery/break in.

                                    Wiener,

This may suprise you but not all fathers are married to their children's mothers. Shocking, I know. And yeah, if my children were just murdered, I wouldnt feel like talking to the press either. I had a friend die in a freak swimming accident back in college, and since the guy was part of a fraternity, the news lady started asking all of us if alcohol was involved. We politely told her to f u c k off. (he didnt drink at all before swimming, he just hit his head while under the water and drowned).

And yeah, I've been seeing way more stories about mothers killing their children than the fathers.

And you do realize that it is generally the conservatives that are for the death penalty, and not the liberals right?

Too much is simply false in your post to not be a troll. You won troll.

Nice how everyone blames the dad who was the ex- husband. Let's take a pole. How many divorced fathers see their children every single day? Every other day? Every third day? Once a week? He was there and didn't make a comment because he was probably insane with grief, knowing that his idiot ex wife married a psychopath who then murdered her and her children. Her bad decisions lost him his children. But let's blame dad right away. Imagine that was you and everyone thought you killed your children and if you read the rest of the story one of them was also raped. It was NOT the father. It was the STEP-father.

When we have people coming from other countries who are used to seeing people's arms chopped off in the middle of the street. So when they come here its so easy for them to commit a violent crime. These cubans run around slaughtering horses. keep letting them in.

Actually, think about that again: husband arrived on the scene, had no comment. Believe me, if someone had murdered my two children, I would have comment, regardless of the state of relatlions between me and their mother. But if they are divorced/separated and he is being hit up for child support, you have a real strong motive there.

I would be betting on the husband more than the boy friend. Although, if the bodies have been there long enough to start smelling, why was not either the husband checking on the kids or the boyfriend checking on the woman? Whole thing sounds pretty suspicious, either person.

First of all, my heartfelt prayers go out to the family of this woman and her babies who were so brutally taken from this world way too early. Then I'd like to address the fact that this woman may have owned a concealed weapon, and had the knowledge of how to use it correctly; however, what all are forgetting is she was in her home, right. You mean to tell me in this day and age even with all the crime happening that I have to walk around in my own home with a loaded gun hidden somewhere on my person and furthermore to never put it down. I refuse to live like that. I think there are a lot of unanswered questions with this story as tragic as it is, but she was in her own home with her kids going about her life when this happened. We have no idea of what led up to their demise, but I do know that the odds are even if she had and knew how to use a weapon that it would have been within her reach. I haven't even ruled out murder suicide either what with all that's happening every day in the US. I feel the most for the babies because they hadn't yet fully learned what life was all about! Again, my prayers for the family and we pray that whatever happened the Lord accept this woman and her children's souls into Heaven! Amen!

I'm blown away that every day I read yet another story of seemingly innocent people and innocent children being slaughtered, it scares the hell out of me. I don't understand how some of the folks on here choose to make political jokes, doesn't matter what your political views are, especially when it comes to people being killed. Making jokes about it is repulsive. Lots of prayers for the family and friends.

God bless this family and may they rest in peace. I hope they catch the criminals that did this.

Did anyone read about the 12 or 14 year old young lady that was killed by her Pakistani parents because she "looked at" a young man? The values we once held for human life is dimenishing across the globe. Maybe that has always been the norm in the muslim world and if so we need to make sure that at least we try to bring back and keep our mothers, sisters and children safer.

I hope they find whomever did this to this poor mother and her children.

I read that story as well. Did you read the one with the father and new wife beat and shocked his 5 year old daughter to death? If I'm not mistaken they were from/or in Saudi Arabia. This kind of violence sickens me. I have a 5 year old daughter and I can not fathom her doing anything to warrant me harming her in any way. I can only imagine this little girl looking at her father while he was beating her to death wondering what she done and begging for her life. So very sad and these things are happening every day. It's truly scary. I don't care what race, religion, or anything else someone is, there is NO excuse for the heinous acts going on in this world! I pray for the family and hope the children and mother rest in peace.

Hello, what do they mean a 6 year old relative was found. Relative? What, a third cousin, an uncle, a step brother to the 2nd cousin of one of the younger victims. WTF.

Oh, the other stupid thing in this article is that the victim mother was noted as pretty. As if that makes the crime harsher. What the hell is wrong with reporters these days.

Miami-Dade? Ok then.... it had to do with drugs, welfare money, prostitution, or some other favorite past-time of the Obama dependents that make up this area of our country.

It would benefit you to know just how sick you really are. You need help - quickly!

Is it also Obama's fault that you are stupid? I think not! Get a real life and use your head for something other than spewing garbage out of your mouth!
