Having lived through the floods in Iowa, I understand it takes time to get things back up and running. our problems were small compared to the two storms they went through. No power, no water, no work,but we got through it, it just takes time.

With a Presidential visit comes the need for resources to be diverted to his security, transportation, etc. Maybe President Obama decided the resources were better off doing their jobs and helping people in the areas affected instead of being pulled in the coordination of a Presidential visit. Given the devastation that has occurred, and the continuing help still needed by people in the areas affected by the superstorm, the president insisting on a visit would have been selfish.

The president travels with an entourage of advisors, Secret Service agents, and attendant media. It's a motorcade, and when the Presidential motorcade approaches an area, all the roads in the area need to be shut down, locked down and secured.

Remember, this is the same issue that people were complaining about in reference to the NYC Marathon. Roads and bridges would have had to be closed for the marathon which would impede progress of relief supplies, power companies trying to get power back on, emergency vehicles. Police would have had to be diverted from the task of helping people and containing looters and crime to attend to security on the route for the President, and those first responder resources are stretched very, very thin.

Help isn't only measured in dollars. My municipality got sideswiped by the hurricane, bus service was suspended, I lost heat and hot water when my basement flooded. I don't have money--but I walked five miles out to a Red Cross donation center to donate blood and platelets. Right now they desperately need blood and platelet donations so I urged those who I know too out and donate.

The state has to request it first via that state's public elected officials. In case you hadn't heard, NY Governor Cuomo said on Monday he's asking the federal government for $30 billion--and NY's congressional representatives are rather upset because the Governor did not talk to them or consult with them or even notify them that he was going to ask for federal aid. Ideas for the economy and job creation.

1. Deport ALL illegals. Regardless of race or nationality. That will open up plenty of jobs and reduce overcrowding in the school. It will also reduce our Medical as there would be fewer uninsured people using the Emergency rooms for doctors visits.

2. Require Welfare recipients to do the work that the illegals were doing previously. There's no reason why any able bodied American can't work a minimum of 20hrs a week. Now I'm not talking about the Physically handicapped or people lets say over the age of 50 or so. That would not only cut down on Welfare payments, but give them some indication as to what it means to work for a living, like the rest of us.

Tell all Illegals between 18-30. Here's a gun & a uniform. If you serve our country for 4 years minimum we will give you US citizenship and award you with all GI benefits our service people receive.

That would be a start in bringing jobs and stability back.

Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 171,000 in October, and the unemployment rate was essentially unchanged at 7.9 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment rose in professional and business services, health care, and retail trade.

You guys need to be shame of yourself. I live in New Jersey you have no idea how many business and poeple have been afffected by Hurricane Sandy and 1 week after we had a snow storm. President Obama had marine dropped by air to help us clean up the snow so we could get back to cleaning all the debris from Sandy. This isn't a joking matter. Whole communities were destoryed. All we have is what the government is doing to assist us and while we may be frustrated we're greatful.

Most of the people without power homes are in too bad of shape for the electric company to turn on the lights. An electrical engineer has to authorize and inspections take time. While some are frustrated. Fema has provided shelter and food daily for so many people. You can't rely on the media you have to be here to know first hand. The snow clean up was pretty good. no cluster phuck! I'm telling the government is really doing a good job.

President Obama as Commander In Chief would have the US Army 10th Mountain Division perform a "Humanitarian Assistance" Operation like they did after Hurricane Andrew. We have worked with them before at Afghanistan, even being a "Light Infantry" Division they have well equipped Engineer Companies, Transportation Companies, Sustainment Battalions, etc..

Then there is the US Military Reserves at Joint Base McGuire Dix Lakehurst (New Jersey), that can be placed on Temporary Active Duty, Humanitarian Assistance, as well as to support the Humanitarian Assistance Operations of the US Army 10th Mountain Division. USAF Reserves and USAF Air Guard also.

Being US Military Asymmetric Warfare one of our Missions is Humanitarian Assistance. Unfortunely, we are doing one of our other types of Missions, currently not at CONUS.

First off: In NY, we EXPECT more. We pay LIPA the highest rates in the country, we expect the utility to at least be competent, which investigation has shown, it is not. Though at least this may finally force some oversight on the LIPA board. Here in NY, we expect things done in a timely manner. If not, then people get fired.

We want results, first and foremost, and we're willing to pay for them. And when we find our money isn't put to good use, we don't accept it like some people in other states do, we complain loud enough to get people investigated, fired, and replaced.

Secondly: Understand the Long Island evacuation plan for ANY disaster: Exit via Queens. Yeah, three million plus, though Queens. Not happening.

Thirdly: I can't help but remember the hubub about the re-drawn flood maps last year, and all the people on the south shore in new flood zones that decided to forego the insurance. Those people should be forced to pay out of pocket for their idiocy.

The response was poor in both because of a simple fact - that the Federal Govt cannot repond to anything quickly. Why was the issue of people building on sandbars ? True that is not a smart idea - and NEITHER is the fact that those in the New Orleans area live in a bowl that is below sea level. SO once the water rolled in and flooded there was little that could be done - none of it in any type of quick response. Add in the fact that the Dem Governor of LA at the time would not declare a disaster before the storm which would have staged the federal govt. response.

Now - three weeks later Stanton Island is still a disaster - and that is only after 2 high tide surges - imagine how much more difficult things where in Katrina where the entire area was all under water for weeks at a time - since New Orleans is built in a stupid way.

Obama did nothing to gain any praise on Sandy and should get none - but it media who loved to fall to their knees to service him, will spin it that way. Hopefully he will get is a$$ handed to him by the folks on Stanton Island and it is well deserved.

That's a lie the governments response has been great. I live in New Jersey. The day before the storm President Obama did an executive order so FEMA could be here immediately after the storm and they were in NY and NJ. Also, he guaranteed billions in aide. Fema is helping with the clean up and on 11/7 we had a snow storm (which stop the clean up from Sandy) the day after president Obama had marines dropped by air in the areas destroyed by Sandy to assist with the snow removal so they could get back to cleaning up all the debris. Both governors have commented President Obama for his assistance. He was in NJ on 10/31 and did a helicopter tour of the remaining parts of NJ and all of NY. This time his visiting NY and a surveying the remaining areas via air. He's talks with the people no one is vetted and we get a chance to express our concerns. Like him or not this is no photo opt or laughing matter he's doing his job.
