MIAMI -- A man was arrested for cutting almost all of his girlfriend's nose off after she refused to have sex with him, Fort Lauderdale Police said.
Ricardo Salamanca, from Plantation, faces a charge of aggravated battery causing bodily harm and remained in jail in lieu of $75,000 bail on Wednesday. It wasn't immediately known if he had an attorney.
On Oct. 28, the victim was taken to North Broward Hospital for surgery to have her nose reattached.

"The victim's nose was severed down to the sinus cavity where the victim's nose was only attached by a thread," the complaint affidavit said.
The woman identified Salamanca as the person who did this to her, authorities said.
She said that she had been in a relationship with him, and they lived together, the report said. That night, she had seen him at a Plantation nightclub but went home alone, the affidavit said.
Later, he knocked on the door and she let him in, but he started yelling when she would not have sexual intercourse with him, and he threw her down, trying to place her in a chokehold, the affidavit said.
She told authorities that he couldn't place her in a chokehold and she ran to the front door, according to the affidavit. She remembered being thrown across the room, and then saw that she was bleeding from her face, authorities said.
"That's what you deserve, b****," the affidavit quoted the defendant as saying.
Salamanca left, and she drove herself to the hospital, the report said.
She told authorities that she had been a victim of domestic violence from Salamanca in the past.

I don't at all want to sound like I'm blaming the victims of domestic abuse/violence, but, seriously, y'all, get the hell out of there at the first sign of such, 'cause it really is only going to get worse. Bullies are just angry, mean-spirited predators with no anger/self control, and they're plain dangerous by their nature and must be avoided if not outright destroyed (I, for one, would support euthanasia for violent bullies as a matter of routine, since we already do it to vicious dogs and other animals).
She really should've left the first time he hit or otherwise harmed her. If she stayed out of fear of what would happen to her if she left, then she ignored an entire society telling her repeatedly everywhere she looked that she could leave, and that we'd help her do so. If she stayed for the dick, then, well, that's just ignunt. And, I really can't think of any other reason she would've stayed other than hardcore masochism, in which case, well, that's just a fetish that you'd better be truly ready for before indulging in, 'cause it can go horribly wrong horribly fast.
Now, let's hope this assmunch goes to prison for a very, VERY long time, and that this lady never, EVER allows another man to abuse her. Some very hard lessons to be learned by both, to be sure.

its NOT just florida, Im from kentucky and a woman was shot at walmart last week in broad daylight in front of god and everybody by her estranged boyfriend. We live in a violent soiciety. Lots of crimes dont make the news. I bet this one made the news simply because it was in florida and because everyone was going to think it was a muslim that did this. The best thing we all can do is educate our children on what is acceptable and what is not. It begins in the home and is carried over into the our schools. children will grow up and express thier feelings, especially anger, exactly how it was demonstrated to them by adults. The best thing we all can do for our children is display acceptable behavior and they will follow suit. This is hard to do. I did not learn this at home myself it took many years and a 12 step program and anger management to come to this realization. I hope just one person reads this and follows this advice. If your daughter sees you being hit by a man she will think that this is ok. If your son sees you being hit by a man he will think it is ok to hit a woman. If your in this situatation get out of it he is not going to change because he thinks that this is how things should be. Break the cycle.

(this is my second time posting because this got deleted) anyway i have a friend ive known since childhood. about a month ago her boyfriend was going through her phone and stumbled upon messages she sent her friend about messing with one of her guy friends. understandable that this was wrong of her especially since she messed with this friend years back. ok so her read the messages and beat the crap out of her while she was asleep. (thats when he found out) she was in shock for the next couple of days because if you know this girl you would know something like this never happened to her before but she admitted that it was her fault. anyway its her apartment and the boyfriend and the brother have been living there with her. ok follow me so far? after this happened the boyfriend and the brother would still be there but neither one of them are speaking to her even now. shes in one of the carolinas states staying with her parents for thanksgiving and this son of a bitch has the nerve now to tell her he wants nothing to do with her. its bad enough these guys are living under her roof. now she has to deal with this crap mind you they have a son together about 9 months. should i go there and kick these guys out myself? it was originally her parents apartment but they moved out to the other state and they took over although the parents didnt like this guy. did this guy overreact? i certainly think so especially since he beat the crap out of her in her sleep and told the brother whose also staying there to not speak with her and now after a month wants nothing to do with her. this girl does not deserve any of this. ive caught my girlfriend talking to many guys but i always keep my composure. this guy needs to leave asap and im mad at myself for not having stepped in sooner. these guys are brazen to think they can live in her apartment and freeload despite the fact that they arent on speaking terms and no longer want anything to do with her. Staying in an abusive relationship is a symptom of mental illness. They need sympathy and help, but are often unable to reach out for it.
Thats not true at all. I was only 17 when i married a boy who later on abused me and I was not nuts. I have no mental illness at all. But when we went to counseling together. I was told he was sick. He had been raped and abused as a child and was acting out his pain on me and if I did not get away from him I would become sick, Just trying to deal with him. He was like a 5 year old emotionally. When he did not get his way he thow fits. But I swear, the counselor said it was him who was mental ill. not me..!! So I ran away. But he found me and it started all over again. I called cops and cops laughed at it all. Every time I tried to get away from him he tried to kill me. I married him in 1976 and I moved many times to try and get away from him. Fearing eaxch time he would find me and kill me. In 1987 cops came when he thow a fit hitting me and pushing me out a moving car. He went to jail but still he did not stop. In 1990 I ran away again and married my friend and finially it stopped. But by that time the stress had made me very ill. We had 3 kids together and one was from rape from him. My kids all take abuse from the mates. My heart fells when they tell of the abuse the mates do to them. And I feel It is all my fault.
@Mary mclain... you are absolutely right, it is actually the abuser who is the one with mental illness. I was with someone for 30 years and it was difficult but I also got away. His abuse was emotional, psychological, even towards our daughters, telling one since she was a little girl that I did not love her, that forever changed our relationship and he did it for nothing other than fun and to have her for his own. I did not even find this out until a couple of years ago, she told me he still tells her that and she is almost 30. She no longer accepts calls from him and has moved far enough away from him that he is not as interested in bothering her as he used to be. Our other daughter was stronger and one time he slapped her and she slapped him back. However, behind everything there was a scared little girl, still is and she is now past her mid 20's. Both my daughters take too much nonsense from their husbands and both of them comment on how much their husbands are like their father in some ways. I cannot change the past but I let them know I am sorry and I understand and I support them, even if it is their decision to stay, as much as I hate that. They know they can come to me when they need to. My leaving showed them that if they choose to leave they can and will be okay. For that at least I did better in showing that it doesn't have to be forever... that is all you can do Mary, you cannot change the past but you can go on and have a better future, support your kids and love them. I don't know what else to say... I am sorry you went through what you did and I wish the courts would take it more seriously and make a woman inaccessible to the man by keeping him in jail until the trial, it would give her time to see that she is okay without him and she does not have to fear that he will come after her after they let him out. It will give her time to move away with the help of a woman's shelter if that is what she wants. It is so hard to break that stupid bond, created by the abuser to make the victim feel they are nothing without the abuser to tell them what to do, feel, act, think etc.

Interesting how these days a woman can wear clothing fit for a streetwalker while getting falling down drunk in a bar, but if she gets raped and anyone dares to imply she asked for it, all hell breaks loose. We need to start in kindergarten teaching children manners and morals. Teaching them they they are deserving of love, not abuse, as well as teaching them violence is not the answer. Too many parents do not teach their children ANYTHING (except the ones who abuse their children). We, as a society, need to arm our children with knowledge and self respect; perhaps it would save them from being future abusers/victims.

I would say Florida has more frequent weird articles than other states, on a morning radio show where I live they used to do the "Florida Story of the Day." Every single day they had a new story about some wacko doing something. But PValdes is right, there are a**holes everywhere. Near where I live there was a 15 year old girl getting raped and screaming for help, a group of 6 adult men went over to her and watched, then when the first rapist finished they all took turns raping her. I've got no solutions how to curb the violence surrounding sex and rape, I'm not a huge supporter of the death penalty but I think it's about time we start killing more people faster if there is a 100% certainty of guilt.
Also, I just want to say to Floridians, I have generalized about your state in the past but I will no longer do so. All of you, Republican and Democrat, showed great spirit and will fighting for your right to vote in this election. I thank you for your effort and I hope things are easier for you next time around, and they will be if you elect a Democrat governor, or a Republican that doesn't share tea party views.
