Foul smell leads police to dismembered woman in Southern California

A Southern California man has been arrested in connection with the grisly murder of his 74-year-old wife, authorities confirmed Friday night.

Police found the woman, who had been dismembered, inside the couple's Oceanside, Calif. home at 11:10 p.m. on Friday. The smell coming from the house was so foul that officers had to wear masks while investigating the home.

Detectives located the woman’s 68-year-old husband in downtown Oceanside. He voluntarily went with them for questioning. After interviewing the man, police arrested him on suspicion of his wife’s murder.

Police say they know the couple but that they have not been called to the house for domestic violence-related incidents, Oceanside Police Sgt. Matt Christensen said.

Neighbors told NBC San Diego that the husband and wife formed an odd pair.

“The husband is actually known for dressing up like a woman and walking around the neighborhood. It's just a permanent fixture, I guess. It doesn't freak us out anymore,” neighbor Jason Chandler said.

The murdered wife, Chandler said, “stands out here with a knife and she takes her clothes off out here on the corner.”

Neighbors grew suspicious that something was amiss with the pair when the foul odor coming from the house grew increasingly persistent. Police believe that the deceased woman may have been in the house for weeks.

Neighbor Eric Chavez told NBC News that he noticed the smell about a week and a half ago. He said police had asked neighbors if they heard sounds of “heavy machinery” coming from the home.

“They did ask me about heavy machinery – if I heard anybody using any in the past week or so. I hadn’t heard a single thing,” Chavez said.

Would you people learn to write? "Police believe that the deceased woman may have been in the house for weeks." Of course she had been in the house for weeks (and longer); she lived there. I believe what you meant to say is, "Police believe that the woman may have been deceased in the house for weeks."

this article presents No evidence that Wife was 'Murdered' - she may have died by an Act of God or some kind of organism shorted out her life wires or something. And once her living spirit was gone, perhaps Hubby thought there's nothing wrong with dismemberment for whatever closure he needed on their life together.

What the eff is wrong with people? Listen...few rules in life...don't kill your own kind. There, that's one. Sigh, if I didn't obey that rule, killers would be killed.

any male dressing up in womens clothing walking around in public has mental issues. he should have been committed just for that. maybe his wife would still be in one piece.

Southern California has been the brunt of sarcastic humor for as long as I can remember, but it also has been the state that traditionally drew citizens from every state as its main population growth mechanism. Of course now that has pretty much changed once the population majority managed to cross an international border illegally. One of the things to consider is the state has historically been anywhere from 5 to 15 years ahead of trends for the rest of the nation, whatever is going on in Soutern California is going to happen elsewhere. Here are some of the things that destroyed one of the best places to live on earth:

#1 Welfare state ...... Tax and regulate business out of the state and surprise! People lose hope and lash out. If California were a seperate nation the economy there was ranked as one of top 5 strongest in the world. Now it is just another 3rd world lelvel failed nanny state. Naturally if you tax away wealth and wealth creation pretty soon there is none to tax, chaos and social collapse is inevtiable.

#2 Education ..... What had been considered one of the best in the nation changed so that instead of concentrating on teaching students how to learn and expecting them to succeed it became more important to dumb down and make each student "feel good about themselves" and "feel included". Of course the student may feel special but all you get is a population that does not know how ignorant it is.

#3 overpopulation ..... crowd an environment with to many and it becomes stressed. That point was reached decades ago. Combine that stress with an ignorant welfare state and you end up with another India or any of the failed 3rd world regions with historic spanish colonial system traditions. Violence, crime and deteriorating living quality of life. Southern California used to be an amazing and wonderful place.

#4 cultural diversity .... all you end up with is a balkanized society at war with itself. A common language, common gaols and expectation unites a society and make it better. What made the Republic great was assimilation before accommodation, the reverse has never worked in history and is not working now.

This list could go on and on of course. 99% of the cause for failure traced to the Democratic party agenda. Not that the Republican party of today is a whole lot better, just that the Democratic party will collapse and destroy faster. The only thing in history that WORKS is Conservative Politics and neither party is that today. The joke is guess what, the end result of extremes left or right is exactly the same for the citizen. I predicted exactly the course of events the day I heard clintons speech outlining his "new economy" and then by the end of his second term I also knew things were going to go from bad to much much worse. Hate to tell you but there is still worse to come and I seriously doubt anything is going to get better for many many years. Natural recovery from Clintons "new economy" would take decades, now it is almost impossible.

During the Dust Bowl era when all of the Okies left and moved to California ,it raised the average IQ of both states.

And that I.Q. promptly dropped after the Depression when California became the mecca for all the rest of the states and 3rd world excess population.

Once the woman stopped appearing on the corner, and the smell started, how long did it take the neighbors to contact police?

Democrat all those years? We had Ronald Reagan, Pete Wilson, George Deukmejian, Arnold Swarzenegger, And we might have had Meg Whitman if it wasn't for her gaffe in a Governors debate. In a very close race, while campaigning for governor of California against former democratic governor Jerry Brown, she stated she wanted California back the way it used to be, 25 years ago, when the state was great, and prosperous, not realizing of course that 25 years ago Jerry Brown was the governor. She lost huge. Good and bad, we attract em all here in the golden state!

The only thing that strikes me as strange in this story is the age of the accused / victim and the Police asking the neighbor about "Heavy Equipment"? What?!! Like a Cat D9? Maybe a John Deere 510 Backhoe?

Ever dress out a deer? All one needs is a very sharp knife. Maybe a good cleaver....

Maybe the Police should have asked if the neighbor had seen Jerry Mathers hanging around?

                              Sorry...couldn't resist.

I would have called the police to check right after the smell started! Those neighbors should have called the cops when the wife was outside naked and carrying a knife.and just standing there. There obviously was something wrong with these 2,and now one of them is dead!
