A Southern California man has been arrested in connection with the grisly murder of his 74-year-old wife, authorities confirmed Friday night.
Police found the woman, who had been dismembered, inside the couple's Oceanside, Calif. home at 11:10 p.m. on Friday. The smell coming from the house was so foul that officers had to wear masks while investigating the home.
Detectives located the woman’s 68-year-old husband in downtown Oceanside. He voluntarily went with them for questioning. After interviewing the man, police arrested him on suspicion of his wife’s murder.

Police say they know the couple but that they have not been called to the house for domestic violence-related incidents, Oceanside Police Sgt. Matt Christensen said.
Neighbors told NBC San Diego that the husband and wife formed an odd pair.
“The husband is actually known for dressing up like a woman and walking around the neighborhood. It's just a permanent fixture, I guess. It doesn't freak us out anymore,” neighbor Jason Chandler said.
The murdered wife, Chandler said, “stands out here with a knife and she takes her clothes off out here on the corner.”
Neighbors grew suspicious that something was amiss with the pair when the foul odor coming from the house grew increasingly persistent. Police believe that the deceased woman may have been in the house for weeks.
Neighbor Eric Chavez told NBC News that he noticed the smell about a week and a half ago. He said police had asked neighbors if they heard sounds of “heavy machinery” coming from the home.
“They did ask me about heavy machinery – if I heard anybody using any in the past week or so. I hadn’t heard a single thing,” Chavez said.

It is hard to tell if California has more weird people or Florida when you see these news articles.
I've lived in both states and California wins that category.
Nope, Florida. Californians (and I'm a native) are an odd bunch, but nobody beats Florida for bizarre crimes...
perfect example, BATH SALTS anyone?...
with most of the crimes committed by northerners / midwesterners that have moved down here to escape the cold, arrest warrants, vindictive spouses, etc.
"It doesn't freak us out anymore," Maybe that is what is wrong and why you have a neighbor cut up into little pieces. He dressed like a woman and she undresses in the yard with a knife in her hand. Nope nothing weird going on in sunny Cali.
California has just had more crazy people longer!
Taking the old farts TV remote isn't a good idea!
Location doesn't matter. There are plenty of wackos all over the place, not just in the U.S.
in california do they call power tools...heavy machinery...
...California...
...the democrat utopian haven...
...uh...yeah...in California, they are all home-grown...
plain bob - where is the video from about 15 years ago where the guy is rockin out with a chain saw? That was actually a kick ass song. Van Halen and the drill - or Green Jello works too.
There were no Bath Salts in the system of the guy who ate the face off someone...but why bother with facts?
Cross dressers everywhere are up in arms, something Grandma seems to be missing now.
Rontron--California may be a close second, but Florida holds the lead.
When police asked why end the marriage now, the husband replied he wanted to wait until the kids were dead.
J_P (et al):
"...up in arms..."
Macabre thread...LOL!!!
I loved that chain saw rift!
California......The Socialist State that O'Bama won ... please keep those "Generations of lazy union trolls" there.
This sounds like a CSI episode in the making.
"Angela LD

Anyways I call BS. Read your own local and state news and I'm sure you'll find plenty of bizarre crap going on in your own backyard.
Really? That's when they grew suspicious? They weren't suspicious when the wife was standing on the corner with a knife taking her clothes off?
Pass the bong!
I only looked at the comments here to see how some MORONS were going to blame President Obama for this. COMRADE CHAOS and LEE 936758 are the first IDIOTS to do it. Amazing how stupid some crybabies can be when they don't get their way.....
Well, at least the police found pieces.
I wanna know how she held the knife while she disrobed ~~~ with her teeth ???
Florida has more baby rapers thats for sure!
Most of the weirdos from Florida are your family members running from the law.
California lets them keep their victims in the backyard.
...and baby killers
There are Evil people all across this country. I think the state's with high tolerance for crime and and criminals has the most sick people and California is in the Top Ten.
They're not evil..they're mentally ill..big difference. They both should have been committed..
Joseph Stalin was Evil and he was mentally ill Its pretty close!!
Among states with weirdos and criminals, California is definitely in the top 50.
@George9662 "Among states with weirdos and criminals, California is definitely in the top 50."
It has to be in the top 50 George. There are only 50.
But, we were told that there are "57."
Captain - It's called a "Joke" Not unlike your life and that of "NJ Person."
I'm native to Florida. There are definitely some strange people here but California still wins by a landslide.
I don't know why California is allowed so many electoral votes. Maybe instead of the 15 states that want to secede, we could simply abolish California and Florida from the Union.
It's based on population.
True, the states with the greatest total population. Just ignore the actual voters wishes, and allow the states themselves to choose who they would prefer.
California may have its full share of weirdos, but not weird enough to vote for Romney.
Nor was Florida. We got there eventually, no thanks to our carpetbagging Republican governor who did everything to slow down our voting process.
Next time the census taker knocks on your door..tell them the other ten of the family is at work..they will believe you and take all the info you want to give (true or not).
A census taker is just the average american trying to make some extra income..like they care what the truth is!
Census taker..hello does everyone here speak english?
si
Are all living here American citizens?
si
How many live here?
mucho
All employed?
si
Can you give me a glass of water please..hot today.
Get outta here gringo..this not a welfare office!

No shezzz! What did it take us a week to count the votes? I still haven't heard if its official or not. lol
And where is our carpet bagging criminal Governor? He hasn't been seen in public since he was elected. I still can't believe we elected a criminal from a different state to be our Governor. Must be the Bath salts talking lol!
Right it's based on population. If Octomom ever moves her family California will loose some electorial votes.
She really got under his skin.
Hey...I take offense to that!
There are idiots everywhere! I live in Florida...in the area near Central Command...in the Tampa bay area. (Which is embroiled in its own scandal.) I love it here...sure there is crime, but if you protect yourself and your property it's still a pretty nice place to live. I've been everywhere in FL...the only scary places are Orlando (yes...Disney World) and Miami.
I can only thank my lucky stars that hurricanes happen here, and I've been through several, from mild to devastating. We are prepared for armageddon, and our infrastructure makes sure of that. We also sent our power crews up North for the Superstorm Sandy event. One of our power guys was punched out in the street in Long Island.
How's that for gratitude?
I agree as the economy gets worse there are more murders and robberies even in the Midwest. As for the couple in the article seems like maybe they might have needed mental health care, I realize that cross dressing is more acceptable now-days but I cannot think of anywhere that standing around outside with a knife and taking your clothes off on a corner outside are normal behaviour.
This story is bizarre, ghoulish, pitiful and sad. How do two human beings break down into what these two became? And even worse, how does a neighborhood full of "normal" folks watch this behavior without calling senior services? This couple obviously needed help.
Oops...my bad. Two old folks needing help...isn't that a big part of the 47% that no one's suppose to worry about? If anyone tried to help, these people would probably start asking for all sorts of entitlements. Yep the neighbors did the right thing. Getting involved might bring help and then look what you've started. It's for the best. The SS and Medicare folks need to move on. They've lived their lives, had their day...
Punched out in Long Island, oh come on.............
"-days but I cannot think of anywhere that standing around outside with a knife and taking your clothes off on a corner outside are normal behaviour."
Well if she wasn't 74 it might have been hot! Apparently all the men in that naboorhood are 94 and thought she was hot anyways. lol
I bet some of the neighbors did call. The article said the police knew the couple, but hadn't responded to any domestic disturbances, so that sounds like someone somewhere had reported their strange activities.
Let's see now... HE parades around in women's clothing, and SHE undresses on a street corner...while carrying a knife. Then SOMEone dismembers her and leaves the pieces to rot in the house.
I tell ya,...these Republicans are just TOO much!
I am sorry but just what does this have to do with a political party? There are nut cases in the Republican, Democratic and Independent parties none of them are immune to nuts.
In my neighborhood, that type of behavior would seem odd and someone would do something about it. We aren't quite as laid back as Californians.
It would seem that something should have been done to help these people before violence took place and a life was lost.
BMette:
I am considered a Republican (did not vote for Romney). I thought your post was hillarious! Sarcasm is wasted upont the oversensitive and dull people in the world.
@peridot,
In a state that advocates both public nudity and cross dressing, no help needed here.
Where did that conclusion come from? I suppose you and our type of thinking are an example of how the democrats won the election.
Maybe it was a voting dispute went wrong.
I wonder how they voted?
Oceanside is predominately Republican, but I think these two were having their own party. As for "doing something for them," there had been no violent incidents, and unless they pose a danger to themselves or others, they get to live their lives.
We are early in the investigative process. For all we know, she died of natural causes. Perhaps in his strange mind he didn't want to give her up, and figured he could store her better if he dismembered her.
Very sad, but I suspect it's going to get weirder.
As for California v. Florida, a study of famous serial killers will reveal that they come from all over the country, probably in proportion to population. Look up Jeffrey Dahmer, Ed Gein, Richard Speck, Wayne Williams, Juan Corona, Dennis Rader, John Wayne Gacy, Aileen Wuornos, Ed Kemper, David Berkowitz, and others are from all over the country.
And maybe it was just two sad elderly people whose lives went all wrong like so many seniors all over the country. I won't argue the fact that they obviously had mental problems; Alzheimer's comes to mind. And the article makes it very clear that the neighborhood and even law enforcement officials knew the couple but no one lifted a finger to help.
So, maybe the wife died a natural death, or maybe the couple, in their demented world, loved each other and swore to assist one another if either suffered from a painful, terminal, debilitating disease. And maybe they hadn't the money to pay for a decent burial and since there was no one to help, the husband was trying to dispose of the body as quickly as possible and that is why he dismembered her. In Nepal, they practice "Sky Burial" where the deceased is taken to a remote and sacred place on a mountain and left there for the animals to do what animals do. And we ooh and ahh and think "what a beautiful thing."
Or maybe he, even at his age, was trying to be a good citizen even though all this new stuff was driving him even crazier and he thought he might be able to recycle her remains. Or maybe, like I said, they actually still loved each other and he couldn't bear to take her remains away from the house once he "prepared" them.
Most of all, maybe some of you jokesters who are probably on the good side of 50 had better start realizing that getting old is not fun, not fun at all; that it is fraught with the loss of things you took for granted, not just loved ones and friends, but a sharp mind, good vision, and a strong able body, and that when all of those things start failing, it might just drive you crazy on top of the senile dementia that you are developing. Especially when you notice that your "neighbors" don't give a tinker's damn about you.
Maybe you'll start thinking. But I seriously doubt it. You people make my heart cry. Leave the comedic stuff to the professionals, because most of you just sound small and mean and heartless and cruel.
And yes, I know: It's "tinker's dam," not "damn." I made a mistake. I must be crazy. Now, where did I put that knife? Too bad it's so chilly out today.
Bryda ~~~ In context, maybe "damn" is more accurate than "dam."
Burning Brightly #7.1, Piecemeal.
CAP'N SLAPPPPP-A-HOE, ,. not acccording to obeeek'nobee dere izz 57' m states fo sho, BOYEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I live in California. We have one of the most desired states to live in hence a large population than most states. It's not that we have more bizarre crimes when compared with the population of other states. This is sorrowful when two senior citizens have mental issues and there is nobody to intervene. It appears that even law enforcement knew who these people were and yet no intervention when they displayed bizarre behavior.
good luck with all the nuts...i think all states have their fair share...but florida hit the jackpot...
Please explain and then list your state so I can show you just as many nuts jobs from your state.
THese people were that whacked out and never committed? Or it was just accepted? I'm ok with walking around in women's clothes for the old man but what was her deal with standing outside with a knife??
Hey if you're going to stand on a corner naked you better have something to protect yourself from the nuts jobs...oh wait
Public nudity is accepted in California so she gets naked on the corner. The knife was incase somebody wanted to rape her naked old body. Excuse me. I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.
Public nudity is not acceptable nor legal in California with the exception of San Francisco.
AWWWWWWW shawwwww, tis-2-legal n' thass Calaforniieeeeahs way of duuuing things uno.
JUsssssss look at "HOLLLLLYEEEEE-WUDDDDDDDDDD n alla their queerz n' nut cased iddddiotz 2.
denko, if you weren't just another pathetic white boy trying to find an identity, you would almost be funny. grow UP!
This ...is weird. Did I read that correctly about the woman standing around with a knife and taking her clothes off? The cross dressing thing doesn't bother me, whatever... but the knife wielding whack job stripper is a definite WTF.
Hey CaerRaven.
Had to do a double-take myself at that paragraph and unfortunately it produced a mental visual I really didn't want to see. ugh!!!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
Funny. Cross dressing seems odd.... taking your clothes off seems normal. ;)
Where do you live that watching a 74 year old woman disrobing on a corner holding a knife seems like a normal activity???
good grief...that line rhymes...
the murdered wife * stands out here with a knife
anyone wanna take a stab at finishing this little bit of poetry???
I've worked with drag queens, I don't bat an eye and I live around the Portland Oregon area. Seeing guys in dresses is about as common around here as women in pants. No biggie.
However if I saw a 70+ year old woman standing naked on a street holding a knife I would likely bolt in the opposite direction.
I have to wonder if these two didn't suffer from some sort of dementia.
hello Chaz! I have to agree, this is just way weird.
Scoff if you must, people, but whenever I get the urge to strip naked on the street corner, I always wield a knife. If I didn't, the girls would swarm all over me, and that would upset my cross-dressing wife. I tried carrying the proverbial stick, but its phallic shape only encouraged them. What's a poor boy to do?
Pathetic, pathetic and more pathetic! God may her soul rest in peace.
Dang, now this is just weird.
"...The cross dressing thing doesn't bother me..."
Therein lies the problem. When common limits of deportment are ignored, the whole conduct and mores of a populace erodes.
By the way, do any realize why Halloween has become such a big deal in the homosexual community? Simple---It used to be that cross dressing was against the law in most communities, excepting costume balls, parties, etc. It gave them the opportunity to do so without violating the law. True, look it up.
Cross-dressing is no longer against the 'common limits of deportment,' Spike. Women can wear slacks and men can wear dresses without fearing arrest. Imagine that. I wear pants to church and I'm not shunned or burned at the stake. How about that?
Halloween's a big deal in every community now. Do try to keep up. It's the 21st Century, Spike. Times have changed.
"...Times have changed." As the Romans said just before they went under.
BTW---no one was burned at the stake due to the Salem witch trials. If that is what you are implying.
Sorry, but if a woman can wear pants guys can wear dresses. Romans wore dress like outfits. Men also wore powdered wigs, copious amounts of make-up and often were effeminate during various periods of history. Men also at certain points in history wore heels on their shoes and carried themselves as lady like as possible. Some cultures still wear make-up and dresses. I would dearly love to see you tell some African tribal warriors that they're wrong for dressing in skirts and dresses as well as place make up on their faces. I'm sure they'd likely snap your homophobic spine in half. Lets not forget Scottish and Irish cultures that wear kilts that could be construed as a 'dress' or 'skirt' or the Maori culture who wear elaborate waist wraps.
Our history is steeped in beginnings of where men and women often shared the same clothing styles/ideals.
I find it sad you're terribly ignorant and are allowed to post. But then again, I'm guessing you're likely one of those NASCAAR cheering, baseball cap wearing good ol' boy who'd happily set a gay kid on fire for wearing a dress.
Spike, please your lack of knowledge of certain social behaviour is painful. A lot of gays or lesbians would not even consider dressing like the opposite sex. They are fully entranced with their gender. Hence, the Village People and it's representations of male stereotypes and the term "lip stick lesbians". Politically , the GLBT, is a unity , but separately, they are quite distinct. Finally, true cross dressing is a hetero sexual form of behavior , for both men and women for many eons. Just to blow your mind, during the Revolution and Civil War, some "men" were found to be women after being hurt in battle. And , this I know because I have worked in the social service field, with a need to know the distinctions.
"By the way, do any realize why Halloween has become such a big deal in the homosexual community?"
I didn't realize it was a big deal for them. How did you know?
FOX news told him BP. Apparently someone recently decided that halloween was a holiday that GLBT group supposedly picked to try and 'force' others to become gay or lesbian. Which is really weird since I know quite a few in the GLBT community and quite a few of them loathe halloween, those that do celebrate have adult parties where children are not allowed at all. One or two are parents who later came out and decided to take their kids to the safe zone trick or treat things at the local malls.
So how they're spreading propaganda through a holiday originally created to frighten off spirits and celebrate Pagan religions...is beyond me.
He'd walk around dressed in women's clothes, and she would stand on a corner and take off her clothes. By any chance, did they own a seedy, forgotten motel named Bates?
Let us not forget the great state of Texas --- some VERY strange things going on down there!
but, only at the govener's mansion lol.
Two crazy people, known to repeatedly do crazy things--for years--and then: Surprise!--something crazy happens.
More freaks & crazed murderers- commonplace in the daily headlines it seems!
You just can't make this stuff up.
It must be Obama's fault, all those pinko left-wing liberals in Commiefornia. You've got OJ, Rodney King, Menendez brothers, Lada GaGa, just to name a few. When was the last time this cesspool of a state voted GOP?
So if they voted GOP all the nut jobs would be in office and not have time to commit crimes? It might work!
I have lived in California and Florida - I prefer Florida, but now I live in my native Colorado and I swear all the wackos from California are moving here!!
Kinda looked that way at the last election.
dotcom-1952428 you started it!!!
Pot Heads.. Yup scratch Colorado off the list..Wackos for sure!
yeah those crazy nuts voted to do way with the failed war on pot and decided pot smokers aren't really criminals but normal people just like drinkers.
Yep they're crazy alright. Crazy like a fox!
You know what? I am SICK of diversity, I am sick of 'tolerance', I am sick of California.
Don't move to Florida. We're full up with crazy here. Try Arizona, they're tolerant of whiny losers there, or so I hear.
You're right! I'm sick of diversity! Whites only! One hundred pecent Anglo Saxon descendants only! If you even have a smidge of any sort of other race in you it's death! Death I say! It's absolutely intolerable we've allowed people to interbreed with other races. My god... what were they thinking. No more tolerance either. We'll set up camps and gas the mentally challenged such as those with autism and brain damage. I mean why on earth would we tolerate THOSE guys? Next we'll work on those filthy diabetics. What with their shooting up that insulins and taking those pills. Druggies the lot of them! Not to mention they can collect disability. Oh and speaking of those disabled peoples. no more free parking for them. That's just -wrong-. They can park in the back..and if they have wheel chairs? Take them away! Make them crawl damn you. Crawl. And those gays and lesbians? We'll put their heads up on pikes..even the wee kiddies we suspect of being gay or lesbian. They even glance at their moms lipstick case? Hang 'em! Damn that tolerance!
The sad thing is, the human creature being what it is, you could clone the same individual 6 billions times and stilll have wars and intolerance. Those wars might be based on who wanted to wear jeans on weekdays...sic.
@Peridot
As someone that lives in Arizona, I was going to say something. But then, I realized you were right... :l
TryingtorememberwhyIlivehereagain.
LOL! CaerRaven...careful, someone is bound to take that the wrong way and start yelling you forgot your meds.
I'm terribly sorry for all you butt wipes but at their ages they must have had terrible mental health issues and should have been in a home. Where the hell were their kids, if they had any, and if not, where was the State to take care of them. This is so terribly, tragically sad beyond belief. Thank God I have incredible kids to take care of us when we get like that.
1. All Californians aren't butt wipes, but close to it.
2. They have mental issues, they live in California.
3. Cross-dressing and stripping should only take place in home, if at all.
4. I hope they didn't procreate.
5. The state is broke, voted democrat for too many years.
6. Definately sad
7. You have great kids because you didn't raise them in California.
lynked: You're thinking you, and the I'm guessing, the Dad of these incredible kids are going to get "like that?" This may come as a surprise to many here, but this couple are not the norm. Seniors do get grumpy... sometimes they throw tantrums, spit, hit, pinch and bite, but haven't seen the cross dressing thing or the strip tease while welding a knife. So just keep your mind and body active. Do a lot of puzzles or seek and find games. You know what they say about an idle mind. However, no matter how great your kids are, YOU are the one that will make that decision for them. If you behave like a cranky old witch...karma can be a bitch, cause what goes around comes around. My recommendations? Plenty of drugs for the oldsters...they'll come to thank you.
Who's to say they had kids? Not everyone is a breeder.
Nor should everyone be.
Breeding is one of the most basic things ALL living organisms do and if you're not then you have something wrong with you. At the least you should practice trying. :-)
Sarah Palin practiced, and look what happened.
123Freedom,You have no idea what wonderful people live in California. It is a sad fact that the Democrats have been in control too long as this is the state people rush to for easy welfare.
levity <~~~> Sarah Palin did just fine in the breeding department. Thank you! She had a special needs child on the way and instead of hauling him off to the friendly, neighborhood abortion mil...uh! I mean, clinic, she gave him a chance and loved him. Sarah Palin had a daughter who became pregnant outside wedlock and she, with her parents approval, decided to give him a chance to live and be loved, despite the fact that in their case, THE WHOLE WORLD WOULD KNOW. Meanwhile, you & I know some celibrity, You don't know who and I don't know who and if I did know who I wouldn't say and I don't think you would either, but take my word for it, somewhere in the world some celibrity did take that little trip which used to be in the back alley and is now on MAINSTREET and now smells like roses while Sarah and Bristol stands in the crosshairs of people like you.
Practicing is great. But that doesn't mean just cause you're really good at sex means you're ready to be a parent. :P
*You being a general term, not saying you specifically*
@BP
While breeding may be a fairly basic instinct, now a days it is not a necessity--and instinct is bred from necessity. Also when procreating you should take in to consideration your mental and financial stability as well as your willingness and patients to tend to them. Children aren't something you should just create on a whim. They are a life, they deserve a safe, loving and stable environment with parents that are capable of caring for them--and you have to realize not everyone can. Or in this case, not everyone should. This couple does not by any stretch of the term seem mentally okay or fit to raise children.
Is she dead
When Ronald Reagan was governor of California he systematically began closing down mental hospitals, later as president he would cut aid for federally-funded community mental health programs. The homeless populations in the state of California grew in the seventies and eighties and people were put out on the street when mental hospitals started to close all over the state. Is it any wonder we have so many looney toons walking around?
Nobody has paid any attention to this since the 80's? Is it because of lack of caring or just NO FREAKING MONEY???? How deep in the hole is California when the Governor has to bang a maid that resembles Mr. Ed? He should have been hospitalized too?
ROFL Good one!!!
Ahh, watch those MSNBc prison shows and you will see that a lot of people who were in mental hospitals in decades past have just traded their hosptial room for a jail cell. We are still paying for it, just in a different way.
ive heard that before
AddieKatz,Great post and also correct. The mental healthcare in this country is deplorable. This story saddens me.
JOHN F. KENNEDY
The last bill that he signed into law was the Community Mental Health Act.
It took a few years for the full consequences of the law to show up, and it took a lot of law suits to fully put it in effect.
JFK gave us the modern, mentally ill, homelessness that we have today, and the ACLU filed many lawsuits to ensure it was enforced. After the institutions were emptied of non-violent persons, many of the hospitals closed for lack of funding/patients. Reagan just happened to be governor when the law took full effect. If you want to blame a California governor, blame Edmund G. "Pat" Brown, Moonbeam's papa, but he could no more buck Federal law than Reagan.
...California, Florida - weird people, ok, I wouldn't have it any other way! In California we celebrate weirdness and that is a good thing/
Yet, we haven't begun to talk about the stuff that goes on in other places, like Kansas - Topeka, Kansas to be specific!
How 'bout the Westboro Baptist Church.
