Cops: Burglar leaves his car, iPad at scene of the crime

A bungling burglar left footprints, fingerprints, and even photos of himself at a Los Angeles home, police said.

Lt. Paul Vernon said the man kicked in the front door of a house in Arleta on Nov. 13 and started to ransack a bedroom.

The burglar made so much noise that he awoke the owner, who had been asleep in another room, Vernon said.

More stories from NBCLosAngeles.com

He then begged the owner not to call police and ran out to his car – which wouldn’t start, the LAPD said in a press release.

He then came back into the house, again asking the residents not to call police. The man who owned the house chased the burglar out of the house, police said, and hit him with a gardening hoe while his wife called police.

The burglar was knocked out by the blow from the homeowner, but soon revived and walked away. He left his car in the driveway – full of his own property as well as electronics that may have been stolen from other homes, police said.

Among the items found: an iPad with the suspect's photographs on it and a traffic ticket bearing his name, police said.

Authorities identified the suspect as Miguel Luna, 25.

“It’s often said in forensics that we always leave a little bit of ourselves behind anywhere we’ve been,” said Vernon, commanding officer of Mission Detective Division. “But this guy must have set some record on the variety and amount of evidence he left.”

Police described the case as "a study in how to get caught."

I read all the INFOTAINMENT articles (that is all most media is so we are not given much choice now are we?)...FOX, CNN, REUTERS, AP, and yes even NBC and MSN....

Once again INFOTAINMENT IS CRAP AND NOT NEWS..... this article is not NATIONAL NEWS OR TOP NEWS...this is a simple local news article...but wait...it involved a iPAD so it must be front page ....

Shosyn, I don't read it for news value, either. Like most people, I read it for a bit of a laugh. And, because it is read for the humor value, there's really no need to complain about it. We just chuckle and go about our day.

@sam adams

Why do you trolls always have to make f*cking stupid political comments on stories and comments that have nothing to do with politics. I'm firmly in center when it comes to politics (I think both sides are filled with a majority of @!$%#s) but you guys on the left bring up Fox news way too often. We understand you don't like faux news (or whatever clever way you're describing it this week). So you can move on to something else now knowing that everyone knows how much you all hate Fox news.

Sincerely,

Everyone who isn't extreme Left or Right

Maybe with the name Miguel Luna he was just looking for the "re-distribution of wealth" the government promised him. Maybe he can claim the "Dream Act" defense to keep from getting charged with anything. I mean he is just trying to get by the best he can and make a living the best way he can, right?

And how would you react waking up with someone ransacking your house. When he got out and came back how do you know he did not go get a gun from his car to make sure you do not call the police.

Put yourself in the homeowner's shoes. It's called empathy.

What is the name of that list of stupid crooks that comes out annually? Maybe he will be at the head of that list. This is a tragi-comedy situation. Unfortunately what denver bill 2 said could happen. Too many criminals caught in the act and retaliated to by the victim, file and win big lawsuits. The criminal is always innocent until proven guilty defense (no matter that they are caught in the act - they are always "alleged" to have committed the crime). Too many instances of homeowners/business owners losing everything to the individual who victimized them (remember earlier this year I think it was, a rancher in NM or Ar, shot some illegals who crawled out of an underground tunnel on his property, and they sued him and won almost $1M? Ther are too many such instances. This will only get worse I am afraid with the economy and jobless rates like they are. Although we can all empathize with ones' feelings of desperation out of true need, we cannot allow rampant and blatant disregard for the laws by those unwilling to seek appropriate help. As for those who just seem to enjoy that kind of life? I imagine we all have resolutions for that haha. Have a great day all.

My all time favorite was burn out in San Francisco. He entered a BofA proceeded to the writing counter and wrote a note on a BofA deposit slip, "This a robbery, put all the money in a bag." After standing in line for a few minutes, he started to get very nervous. Mr. MENSA decides to leave BofA and went across the street to a Wells Fargo branch. The would be bank robber presented his robbery note a young female teller who could tell the would be robber wasn't firing on all cylinders. Quickly thinking the teller told Mr. Mensa that she was sorry she couldn't give him any money because he was wanting to rob a Wells Fargo , but was using a note written on a BofA slip and that he would have to return to BofA to complete his business. As soon as he left the WF building, the teller called the police who apprehended Mr. Mensa standing in line with his robbery note back at BofA.

The truth is Americans think the justice system, including the police and criminals are like they see on tv. The truth is, the criminals are generally not that smart and the police do not send a CSI unit to every crime scene. What's really at the root of crime is laziness. These criminals are just too lazy to get a job; they care nothing about anybody but themselves and try to take the easy way out. Lock them all up on an island and let them fend for themselves.
